Starbucks Corporate Tells Employees to Return to Office or Face Termination | Eater Seattle

"Taking over the Alki Beach space that housed a Starbucks for 25 years, Alki Coffee Co. — owned by West Seattle resident Jonathan Stebbin — plans to serve beans from Local Goods Orcas Roast and will also include a Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop in the same space, with a hoped-for opening by April 2025; a correction notes that a previous version of this piece misstated the location of Alki Beach Coffee Co.’s new location." - Courtney E. Smith

The coffee shop is right by the shore and offers a beautiful view of the Puget Sound. It shares space with Ben and Jerrys ice cream shop. They have a variety of sandwiches and crepes on the menu. We ordered an oat cappuccino, hot matcha and cinnamon rolls. The order was ready in a short time too. The rolls tasted good - the icing was not too sweet and it was warmed up well. The coffee was decent - strong and no acidity in it. The matcha tasted good too. No complaints from us - we enjoyed our visit and they have a lot of seating available.

I’m a home & pet care professional who had never been to Alki before. My hosts generously left me a gift card for Alki Coffee, as it’s one of their favorite spots. This place is fantastic. Sometimes coffeehouse food is hit or miss, but theirs is definitely a hit. I ordered a BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. Paired with a hot Americano on a freezing cold day and a blueberry muffin, you’re left with a pure feeling of gratitude for this place. It does get quite busy on the weekends, but the beach is literally across the street, so you can walk over and enjoy your goodies with a view of the water. The staff is wonderful too—friendly and quick to get your order out. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Came here for the first time and really enjoyed the view and the open setting. Unfortunately, the food didn’t match the price, and we actually left still feeling hungry. I also hoped the cappuccino would be better, but it tasted bland. Overall, a bit disappointing, and we don’t think we’ll be coming back.

First time here at Alki Coffee. It’s a lovely establishment. Love the big tables and the open concept. Feels so spacious and not crowded! We had their açaí bowls and coffee. Delicious!! Staff was very friendly and helpful!

Open 7am-7pm every day! Super happy with the food options. Pastries, Paninis, sweet/savory crepes, Acai Bowls, breakfast sandwiches and more! I had the seaside crepe which was delicious! The coffee was good as well. They have an entire Ben and Jerry's in the shop with dairy free icecream options. The food/coffee options on Alki are horrible, very happy to have something open up thats actually good and walkable for Alki residents

They have a La Marzocco espresso station, so, their investment pays dividends there. This biz shares space with the mid-day to sunset Ben & Jerry's, so, great business model: sharing space. This is in the old Starbucks, with a bus stop right in front. Short menu, even though w/ photos it runs 20' long. I got the Westside Waffle (GF $11.99 +2fruit toppings) that gets a whack of whipped cream, corn syrup & butter packets, made as fresh as anything. Not very crispy, but delicately so. The interior is incredibly fluffy, not soaked through by the generous dollop of 'whipped cream.' Bonus fruit addition (blueberries and banana for me). Service items are all compostable... well, not sure about the drink lids. My wife had an egg & cheese breakfast sandwich and a latte. A beautiful wheat grass image in the foam, nice latte. She thought the egg was cooked to perfection. This being said, we were the first customers in. So, during busy times, your results and mileage may vary. Within 30 minutes, the 4 tops, individual seats by the fireplace, and a few front window counter stools are fairly well taken. i.e. it got busy on a Friday morning by 7:42a. There seemed to be plenty staff, and a Manager hanging around for the busier times. Several families showed, and most folks sat and ate vs. hit and run to the bus. Note: King Co. Metro frowns on eating while on board. Views of Puget Sound, Alki. Ave. is just past the sidewalk here. Parking can be a bear, and fewer options for bike racks than might be ideal.

Google
Visited this place for the first time on Tuesday and it was so great! Super friendly staff. The food and coffee were great (and very inexpensive considering we're in Seattle). Great location. Would definitely visit again.

Yelp
Have been here several times for coffee, acai bowls and breakfast sandwiches. So far all on point. Excited for this coffee shop to thrive . They were also super sweet to my two year old who wanted a tea like his dad. The staff was so smart and made him his own " tea" with pressed orange slice , honey and warm water .

Yelp
Replaced the old Starbucks. I like the new spot. Nice modern interior with open spaces. Read some of the other reviews, and I had no issues with the staff, who were warm and friendly. Probably one of the best views you can get at a coffee shop in all of Seattle. Açaí bowl was really really good. Somewhat expensive, but this is also prime beachfront real estate on top of Seattle's crazy high cost of doing business. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
Ordered a matcha and added red raz syrup. They forgot my syrup and even after they added it, it wasn't much. About halfway through the drink all I tasted was almond milk. Bottom of the cup had clumps of unwhisked matcha. Interior is super cute, just wish my drink was good. Tried the vanilla oat milk latte and that was good. Better stick to coffee. Service was great.

Yelp
This is my favorite hidden gem of the Seattle summer. A quiet shaded seat on the boardwalk, right across from the beach, all for the price of a cup of coffee. Perfect.

Yelp
Good coffee - Scenic location - Quick service Located in the same complex as Ben & Jerry's, Alki Coffee has a lively atmosphere so if you're seeking a quiet, tucked-away spot, this might not be it. That said, the coffee is brewed rich and ready fast, making it a solid choice for a quick stop. There's plenty of seating, including scenic window spots that give you a nice view while you sip. I grabbed mine to go and took a walk along the beach, highly recommend pairing the two.

Yelp
I love coming to this place. Everyone is so kind that it feels like I'm among friends. Yesterday I only ordered a drip and asked if I could get a splash of milk and the barista asked if I'd like her to steam it. I thought that was such a sweet gesture, especially knowing how busy they usually are. It really made me feel cared for. I'm so happy they keep that cozy, homey vibe.

Yelp
Was excited for this place to open - Starbucks leaving sucked, as that was only decent coffee option along the beach. Went along on day two in the afternoon - quite a few people on the ice cream side, but nobody on the coffee side. Went to order a crepe and two coffees...the person behind the counter couldn't have been less inviting if she had tried. Didn't say hi, didn't smile, avoided eye contact, stood the whole time looking to the side of her like she wanted to be anywhere but there...on day two!!! Totally soured the entire visit to be honest and now that's the lasting impression of a brand new place. Coffee itself was decent and the crepe was ok, albeit a bit too sweet. Inside is very nice and I love that they used local materials. Won't be rushing back though based on the lackluster service we got.

Yelp
Service was great. It was their first day open and yet the line moved quickly and the people were nice and the vibes were great. I ordered an oatmilk latte which was delicious and a yogurt parfait which was refreshing and sweet and hit the spot! Will be coming back for lunch!

Yelp
Glad that there's a space back here, and the coffee is good. The food is overpriced/underwhelming though. This ham and cheddar panini was boring, obviously cheap bread and ham and nothing to go with it or jazz it up like mustard or a pickle or something. For $11.99 before tax, it's poor.

Yelp
Customer service here is so so. Could've been friendlier on the Ben and Jerry's side. My iced decaf Americano was okay I'd come back here to try the food. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. I like they have a points system. Overall, I'd still recommend this place if you want a relaxing environment to enjoy coffee/food.

Yelp
I had a few minutes before a nearby appointment, so I stopped in for a cup of coffee. Person taking the orders was engaged in what seemed to be a personal conversation with a customer. After standing there being ignored for several minutes, I left and went to a competitor who wanted my money.

Yelp
Love this place! Coffee is great, açaí bowls are delicious and you cannot beat the view :)

Yelp
Coffee was just ok. I honestly miss the dark and moody vibes of the old Starbucks. I am glad they kept the fireplace, though.

Yelp
I am visiting from out of state and have had breakfast here 2 days in a row. The food, drinks and service is amazing! Plan on visiting more while I am here!

Megan K.

Yelp
This is our new favorite coffee shop! I love the bright new finishes. The service is great - friendly and fast. The prices are also very reasonable. Would recommend!

Yelp
Disappointing. I was excited to try this place. It has so much potential, but is mediocre at best. Probably a reason why it was empty this morning. I ordered the crepe with ham & Gruyère with carmelized onions & an iced americano. The coffee was weak and watery. The crepe was doughy, and the ham looked and tasted like it came out of a plastic package from the refrigerator (not even warmed up), and the onions were super chunky -not carmelized. The crepe wasn't awful, but the quality was something I'd expect at a train station. It's a shame someone would spend money to open a place, in what's probably a very expensive location on the beach, only to serve mediocre food with weak coffee.

Yelp
I ordered a 20oz Iced Latte and Turkey sandwich which was about $20 with tip. I took the cup back next day because I was sure it wasn't 20oz but they confirmed they are selling it as that when it only holds 16oz. They don't seem to care that it's illegal. The turkey sandwich was terrible...3 nothing slices of processed meat...not even deli sliced good turkey and the panini was barely grilled. When I mentioned this also on my second visit the cashier couldn't have cared less. I'm a local that lives close but my daily business is going elsewhere.

Yelp
We went two hours after they opened for their first day of business. The design is beautiful. The coffee is good as are the baked goods. They also make crepes, waffles, breakfast sandwiches and paninis. Great addition to the neighborhood. We will be back!

Yelp
Made me miss my bus trying to get to my job. Employee was serving a customer before me, but when I told him my bus left in a couple minutes, instead of prioritizing the situation, and switching to my order (and finishing the first customer's order later), he continued to work on the first customer's order. My order was only a blueberry muffin, so he could have quickly served me my order, and immediately gone back to the first customer's order with barely any delay at all as a result of serving my order first. But instead, he proceeded with completing the first customer's order, which was an order that took a long time to complete. As a result, I missed my bus. Right now I'm waiting for the next bus, and I just HOPE that I don't get to my job late. This was my first time at this shop, and the first time always leaves the strongest impression. Suffice to say, this left me with a very negative impression. I will not be back to this shop for a long time.

Yelp
Went in on Mother's Day and ordered their turkey "panini" and the sunrise açaí Bowl. The açaí bowl was supposed to have agave but thankfully I noticed the bear bottle they poured over it and had my boyfriend ask. It was honey and I'm allergic, we would've went back but their line was out the door. I could've ended up in the hospital and had little to no idea why since their menu clearly states agave. We switched food but the panini is just a warm sandwich instead of a grilled/pressed, which is fine just don't label it as a panini... There were only two pieces of what look like the 1LB bag of signature select turkey on it. Very thin, obviously not a deli cut or anything of the sort. I pulled out multiple pieces of just stem which sucked too. Best part of the panini was the crust, the regular part of the bread was super chewy and tough. Only reason they get 2 stars was they were decently fast for how busy they were.
