Wow, what an interesting 1st time experience. This place was recommended because it’s a Black woman-owned business, but unfortunately, it wasn’t the best.
A friend and I attended and were greeted upon entry. There was no clear parking. We looked at the menu and had questions since it was our first time, but the young lady was unsure, confused, and uneducated about the menu. I’m not sure if she is new, but she was just not helpful at all, although she was sweet. The manager on duty was helpful when she was around.
I ordered a Hennessy praline cupcake, which was 10/10 all the way, and a lemon velvet cupcake, which I’d rate 6/10. There was too much icing, and I wasn’t a fan of the liqueur even though it paired well. The original nachos with beef were good but disproportionate - the guacamole was fresh, but there was only a crumble of beef and entirely too much cheese to enjoy, so 5/10. I’ve never had a daiquiri, so this was my first. I ordered a strawberry lemonade daiquiri, and I’d rate it 6/10. The presentation was a lot but cute; the drink itself did not taste like the two flavors, although the alcohol was definitely there. I’m just not a mixed drink person.
Overall, the manager was helpful where she could be. The service was okay. It was only the two of us in the restaurant, and it took anywhere between 10-20 minutes to receive each item. The food and drink were okay. I can appreciate the decor, the branding, and the variety of the menu, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, and especially it being Black woman-owned. I’d definitely be back for the cupcakes! Thank you, Alky Therapy, for an interesting therapy experience.
