Where to Find the Best Sandwiches in Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"North Philly’s finest can be found in this impressive hoagie spot that also serves ice cream. The showstopper here is their chicken caesar hoagie that is more than just a salad-turned-sandwich, but a culinary tour de force." - Ernest Owens

On the Grid : Everybody Hits

"The name of this place is legit: everybody does, indeed, hit. You can head here with friends or family, rent the place out for a birthday party, entertain your nephews for an hour, or work on your swing for your office softball team. It’s a great non-bar, non-shopping activity, but if you must, you can bring our own beverages." - Melissa McFeeters

Google
Love supporting black owned businesses. Everything is good there. Best ice cream I've tasted in a long time. I would suggest you order ahead of time. Took about 1/2 hr 45 mins for 3 hoagies. Everything is fresh.

Google
I just left there 25 minutes ago and I might walk back for another. I ordered a honey maple turkey with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, salt and pepper. It was constructed the I love it (which is the right way and only way it should ever be). The owners work and run the place from what it seems. Boars head products and amazing bread. This place is freaking Aces in my book and I'll definitely return.

Google
My first experience going and trying one of there Hoagies. I got the All about Turkey hoagie end and out and it was pretty good. She made it just right for me. The only issue was when it was time to pay it was a miscalculation on the register. Which someone else came and corrected the issue. Definitely would come back again

Google
I really enjoyed the service and the food. I got the chicken Caesar hoagies, but I definitely gotta go back to try others. They got all the Toppings you'll ever need. Just place your order in advance because they stay busy.

Google
A neighborhood staple for me! My son loves to get cookies after daycare. The hoagies are huge. A long sub easily replaces two meals! They even have ice cream! Check them out!

Google
Went on a Friday around 1:30 and it wasn't too crowded. We were told our order would take about a half and it did. The staff were friendly and offered samples of the ice cream, I ended up getting cookies and cream and strawberry shortcake. For food, I got the chicken Caesar hoagie, it's good. I'd definitely go back!!

Google
I just got 2 pieces of cake for myself and my son and was indecisive about what kind to choose... The lady that makes the hoagies was very nice and suggested I try the 7up cake or the carrot cake. I chose to go with the 🥕 cake and it was the 1 of the worst decisions I've made when trying cake... The cake was past stale... I'm was very upset yesterday after making it all the way home and finally getting a chance to finally eat the cake... Initially I was hesitant about getting it because I thought $5.50 was a little too much for a piece of cake, but upon arriving home it confirmed my beliefs... I tried calling the 3 numbers posted online and had problems with getting someone on the phone with all 3 numbers... I will go back to try the hoagies everyone is raving about, but I wouldn't recommend the cake to anyone!...

Google
I ordered the all beef hoagie as a doordash pick up order this afternoon. Pick up was a super quick process. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. As for our hoagie, it did not make it home lol. It was delicious and fresh. It’s safe to say we’ve found our new favorite hoagie spot. Thank you! We’ll be back!!!

Yelp
I had a Repass for my Son it was right after the Superbowl so the theme was a Superbowl Party I had ordered over 100 Hoagies it was a BIG HIT they were delicious. Also they delivered before the service which was at 11:00 AM and they hadn't even opened yet. God Bless your Business got a Customer for life!!! Oh I passed out your cards Thank You Wanda J Carey

Yelp
Very disappointing order. I order a lot from them via DoorDash. The hoagie was terrible. No cheese. Stale bread. And no lettuce or anything

Yelp
My first time eating at All Day Hoagies, I heard the hoagies was good so I figured I would try it out with my grandson and what I heard was correct! I ordered two honey turkey hoagies, one seeded roll and one plain roll. The hoagies were delicious, too much to eat in one setting, have lunch for tomorrow but, the wait was too long. We waited for the better part of 40 minutes, my grandson fell asleep on the table in the sitting area by the fan after asking me twice if our food was ready. Happy I did not receive a parking ticket. Will definitely go back again but, will be more prepared for the wait.

Yelp
Needed lunch so walked into this place. Knew right away It was gonna be good. Very busy with online orders but they took my order right away. My wait was a little longer than I hoped and hence the 4 star. Food was excellent. Big enough to share. Will return.

Yelp
I Ordered The Beef Italian Hoagie On A Seeded Roll. It Was Everything I Was Looking For. Delish

Yelp
Looks like I should've pre-ordered a hoagie too. Decided to try the ice cream side of things via TooGoodToGo. What I had was nice but felt like a what I paid for deal or only a slight deal rather than a bangin deal at 6.59. 4 cookies random and a nice coffee swirled ice cream two cup sizer hit the spot. They offer a 3.99 plus tax deal sometimes but I wanted to try the more expensive option since the cheaper option didn't have the best ratings from 69 being averaged in. Staff is friendly and there was a line inside for people waiting to get food. I believe there was no seating or maybe a few seats inside at most.

Saundra A.

Yelp
I recently had the best hoagie I've had in a long time. Everything was incredibly fresh and seasoned to perfection, and the hand-dipped ice cream was exceptional. I highly recommend ordering ahead because this place is always packed. You can expect the best hoagie you have ever tasted, complete with fresh long rolls and a generous selection of meats and cheeses. Also, they offer a vegetarian option. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
They had a great corned beef hoagie I recommend it great place for lunch. Can't we to try the all beef Italian hoagie. They have a great Manuel also ice cream and cake

Yelp
I decided to order delivery from All Day Hoagies after seeing a stellar review of it on JL Jupiter's YouTube channel. I ordered from there twice so I could try a couple of hoagies and desserts. The Turkey'ed out hoagie is the best turkey hoagie I've ever tasted. Filled with multiple types of turkey, it's much juicier than a standard turkey hoagie. The cheese to meat ratio is on point. The special sauce compliments it perfectly. A nice soft bun. If you like turkey hoagies, you will love it. The Chicken Caesar hoagie is another great specialty hoagie. It's a chicken caesar salad in a garlic hoagie roll. It's like a chicken caesar wrap taken to another level by the roll. And it's massive. The only downside is that the part you can't eat will not be as good the next day as a normal hoagie. It's best to share it with someone and eat it all fresh. As JL would say, both of these specialty hoagies are game changers! I also sampled four of their cakes. The chocolate cake, pound cake, carrot cake, and lemon cake. All of the cakes were delicious. The lemon cake and pound cake are a small step above the other two. But you really can't go wrong with any cake choice. I wish I had tried the ice cream as well. I will do so next time.

Yelp
I bought the Chicken Caesar Hoagie, this was a great hoagie! Must eat this hoagie right away because it's served on toasted garlic bread. The only drawback is the wait time, most orders will take approximately 20-30 minutes, so I would suggest preordering 30-45 minutes before you need your food! But definitely would wait for these great sandwiches. Great to see black owned businesses thrive. Also Big Shoutout to JL Jupiter for blowing up this spot!

Yelp
A legit Philly hoagie. I'm always here for it. Ordered a turkey hoagie and I do not regret it at allllll. Thin sliced lunch meat, put that mayo on it, added all my toppings. My only issue is the bread. It ain't even close to holding all of the contents of a hoagie and so eventually it just fell apart. I also ordered a slice of pound cake cus why not? That jawn was thicker than a snicker and absorbed 90% of the saliva from my mouth. Wayyy to dry but some folks like it like that. I won't be back for the pound cake but I might have to spin the block for another hoagie.

Yelp
This place is amazing. My sister ordered the chicken ceasar hoagie and had it delivered through Uber Eats. Everything was so fresh. The bread was perfectly toasted. The packaging was lovely. I will be a repeat customer.

Michael P.

Yelp
I went to All Day Hoagies today and got a hoagie with honey maple turkey, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato mayo salt and pepper. It would only let me leave one review on Google. There were two halves of the sandwich so I had to find a way to leave another review. This is seriously one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I don't know where they get their hoagie rolls from but wtf they are incredible. I hope they're open tomorrow. The owner said they've been open for 3 years. I see a very long and bright future for this place. I should have gotten two
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
Huge hoagies that taste great. Before I ordered, I thought they were slightly expensive (~$15) but they're seriously twice as big as I was expecting, so they're actually pretty cheap. Super friendly people too. Love this place!

Dee B.

Yelp
DISAPPOINTED I order the chicken Ceasars salad hoagie and it was empty and it looked like slop. It was basically a bread sandwhich and the bread was hard. For $17.00 I should have received a quality sandwhich. I wish I could post the picture for you to see but the site doesnt have that option. I will never go there again. My friend got the same thing the week before and it was much better. I can't patronized a business where I have to figure out who is preparing food to get a quality meal. That is the issue with supporting Afro-American owned business they are not consistent in the quality of the products they sell and that's why they end up closing down and not lasting. As everyone knows word of mouth is the best advertisement and my advertisement for All Day Hoagies and Ice Cream is thumbs down

Khadijah W.

Yelp
One of the best hoagies I've had in a long time and it was definitely worth the money. Also bought the sweet potato pie for myself which was really good and I bought the peach cobbler for my dad which he really enjoyed as well. Definitely a 10/10 and the customer service was good too!

Yelp
Dropped in for a last minute hoagie before they closed around 9pm on a Friday. First off, can I say, this whole block is changing so quickly. There are a ton of new shops and restaurants pop up pretty often. Now to the hoagies. For the first time, came in to order instead of ordering ahead. While it took a second to get the hoagie made as a few last minute people came in at once, I will say the Triple Threat hoagie and the All Beef are both amazing. The large size is definitely enough for two people, maybe three, on each hoagie and the thinly sliced meat, perfect proportion of spices and mayo made it my favorite hoagie I've tried in a long time. The seeded roll was amazing, you definitely need to go seeded, but the hoagie without the seeded roll was great too. I didn't order cheese on mine, just extra mayo, but by gosh I didn't even feel it was lacking because the balance of flavors was so perfect otherwise. Their dessert selection is huge too, with cookies cakes and ice cream galore. The pound cake was a great blend of light vanilla sensations, crumbly exterior and a zingy cake with the perfect amount of sugar and butter. I really don't know how I slept on this place for so long! Please come in. I will do my best to let my friends know of this awesome option :)

Loretta Y.

Yelp
So overrated and expensive for a hoagie with less meat but more lettuce and tomato I should've just gotten a salad.

Deforio B.

Yelp
I thought I wanted Chinese food, but as I was driving up Girard Ave, I decided to stop before they closed. The employees were polite and attentive, the background music was good, but things got a little backed up for a minute when the Grub Hub orders were being picked up. I ended up ordering the Chicken Caesar hoagie and the All Beef Italian hoagie. (Back-in-the-day that was called a Jewish or Kosher hoagie). My order took 45 minutes to prepare-that's an unusually long time for 2 sandwiches. Nonetheless, let's start with the chicken Caesar hoagie. It came on a warm toasted roll that had the right amount of crunch and crispiness. My 1 complaint is that it was a bit salty, but it was very good. You could taste all of the ingredients in every bite. Next, was the All Beef Italian hoagie. It was loaded with every thing: onions, peppers (sweet, hot, and pepper flakes), oil, oregano, provolone cheese, tomatoes, mayo, and all beef meats. I also had to get a bag of chips because you are not a true Philadelphian if you don't eat chips with your hoagie...duuuh! I thought the chicken Caesar would have been my favorite because I love chicken Caesar salads, but the All Beef hoagie was delicious. Top tier freshness and that's the meat and the bread combined. Go support this black owned business located on Girard Ave, between 29th and 28th, in the KINGDOM of North Philadelphia. 'Til we eat again...

Yelp
Very nice place to get some VERY good food, except the problem is they HAVE to get their service & systems right/better & then this place will SOAR. At the time we visited, someone just so happened to be on break, which left only one person to fix/prepare EVERYONE'S orders that was standing waiting. Their team HAS TO know, that when the place is PACKED, NO ONE is on "break". Because if the business closes from people getting sick & tired of the service, EVERYBODY is gonna be on as LONG of a break as they want. So the one person was obviously overwhelmed, attempting to do EVERYTHING that was needed to make every single sandwich for every single person, while the younger/less experienced people were STANDING around (either at the register & ice cream counter) doing absolutely nothing when they could have been helping to EXPEDITE the service by pre-slicing the meat for the sandwiches & pre-cutting open the correct size roll for each sandwich order coming up, so all the ONE lady has to do is QUICKLY fill the sandwich with whatever is on the order & then move on to the next customers. If they got their SYSTEMS right, this could & possibly WOULD be the #1 store people go to to get their sandwiches. Because they're OBVIOUSLY new at this & they mean well, but that's just a MAJOR area where they CAN & SHOULD improve going forward.

Talya H.

Yelp
Not really a hoagie girl but these are the best. It sent me into a "where can I find something that tastes as good" and after 4 other hoagie spots that are closer to me, I'm back! Huge in portion size, packed with flavor. Only place I'll be coming back to going forward
google avatar

Yelp
Everyone loves this place and it is ok. The bread makes it different but otherwise nothing extra special about the way they put boars head meat on a hoagie roll. Get there early as there is always a line and keep in mind you may need to change your order based on supply and demand. Staff was great and attentive. They were sure to let you know when they ran out of rolls and done for the night. I tried the vegan meat and it is ok. Taste like bologna to me and it has soy. Next time if fam wants to go, I'd try one of the turkey hoagies.

Yelp
So happy to see another black owned shop , sandwiches made fresh to order , basic hoagies with a lil twist . Be prepared to wait , pretty small inside , best thing is they sell sandwiches and ice cream and cakes , chips and sodas , one stop shop , will be back again to try a different type . I got the grilled chicken Cesar hoagie it comes on. Toasted garlic bread roll , which is a bit over powering with garlic , too much for my liking , but the chicken salad was good . They have an extensive menu , go check them out , pleasant staff , and it's a cute lil place not much room to move around , standing room only . They have stools to sit , when it's not crowded
google avatar

Yelp
Very nice deli for the neighborhood, bright and clean! Many sandwich options and plenty of chips, sodas and deserts to go with your hoagie . Saw on instagram and had to check out, the whole hoagie was a 10. The sandwich was a really good size and was loaded with my favorite fresh veggies. I ordered the Vegan Honey Turkey, it was built perfectly, will defiantly go back, so happy to have found this gem.

Margaret J.

Yelp
Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit this shop and the sandwich was really good, I had the gourmet turkey hoagie. the staff was very nice and the store was welcoming. I will definitely be back another day.
google avatar

Yelp
Always delicious sandwiches. Second purchase as good or better than the first. The ice cream is a real bonus

Yelp
This place is by far the best in the City..... I had hoagies from AROUND THE WAY, At Old Nelson's, Primos Hoagies, Ricci's (in South Philly), etc...... And this place beats them all in my opinion and it's BLACK OWNED too (That part!!). My first time trying out this place last week and I Am back for more. Anytime, My first bite was HEAVEN ON EARTH and that is rare for a first time anywhere. I recommend this spot to anyone who crave for a delicious hoagie all day, Anyday!!!

Yelp
OMG! The best tuna hoagie in the city!!! This is a small business on Girard avenue but the line was out the door! So you know what that means!! Its gonna be good. They said the wait would be like 30-40 minutes and boy oh boy was it worth it! The place is intimate with a few tables outside on the sidewalk. They serve ice cream, cake slices, chips, and an assortment of hoagies. It was kinda pricey but the hoagie was huge enough to share! The non seeded roll was fluffy, tasty, and fresh! I am totally impressed! I wish it was closer but I will definitely check them out when Im in the area or just in the mood for a dope ass hoagie! Thumbs up! I'll def be back!!:)
google avatar

Leon S.

Yelp
A really great hoagie. The hoagie menu options are plentiful. I had the Maple Honey Turkey hoagie. It was nicely made. Not sloppy and not overwhelming by the meat and toppings. Clean place with many other goodies to check out while waiting for hoagie. Definitely recommended!!!

Donovan R.

Yelp
It was my first time at All Day Hoagies and it did not disappoint! I got the turkey sandwich special and it was honestly the best sandwich I have had in a long time. Great to see a local neighborhood business do well and the staff could not have been nicer. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Che D.

Yelp
If you want consistently good hoagies you've found the right place! The bread is always fresh there is a great meat and cheese selection and the menu has so many options for you to choose from. They also have ice cream, cake, cookies and doughnuts which is equally as good! My only gripe...which isn't a big deal is that they don't have paper menus inside or a menu on the wall. The menu is only on the chalkboard outside. I've seen a laminate menu at the counter but it's not visible to a new comer. It's a new business so hopefully they'll take that into consideration. Also, the cashier should tell people what add-on options are available instead of a customer having to guess what's available. But overall this is a solid hoagie spot!
google avatar

Tunisha W.

Yelp
The hoagies are amazing, really takes me back in the day . Everything so fresh and the please get the seeded roll. I got a corned beef with the works ...They are the real deal. Only thing is I was there for an hour or so . They are getting swamped and they need more hoagie tech'swill be going back for the Italian Tuna and the gourmet Turkey.
google avatar

Patricia F.

Yelp
There were at least ten people in line ahead of me. One person on the register and only one person making the hoagies. Someone finally came from the back and began to make hoagies, and that helped the line move faster, BUT then she went to the back never to return! My turn finally came and the sandwich maker was very kind and attentive to my requests. I ordered the Tuna hoagie on a seeded roll with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions, oregano, and hot pepper flakes. OMG, it was delicious. Very tasty . I would go back because I want to try an Italian Hoagie, whenever I want a Tuna Hoagie this is where I want to get it from. I was very pleased with it. When you go, make sure you have time to wait. I waited about 30 minutes, but it was worth it. They also had an assortment of cakes, and of course Ice cream. I took away one star only because they could have been a bit more organized and I had to wait awhile.

Scott R.

Yelp
I would give it 10 stars if I could! My wife and I are from Denver and we were visiting our daughter and son-in-law in the Brewery district as they bought a house close to here. It's about a 15 minute walk and this was BY FAR THE BEST SANDWICHES WE HAVE EVER HAD!!!! We had a #8 Turkey Surprise, a # 9 All Beef Italian and a Vegan. Everything was perfect and even overflowing with meat and turkey goodness! It took maybe 15 minutes to receive the food as they were quite busy. Bread was crispy, presentation was awesome, and overall, it was fantastic! Sat right outside at a little table and enjoyed the sandwiches. They even came outside to make sure everything was good. We didn't try the ice cream but it looked awesome as well. Shoutout to Yolanda who took our order and was very patient with us! She was awesome. And I forget the name of who made the sandwiches, but thanks to them as well! We will definitely be back when we get out there again!
google avatar

Real S.

Yelp
Only giving this a 3/5 because I wasn't able to grab a sandwich when I stopped by. The staff was watching the game when I came in no one asked to take my order or anything so I had to interject their conversation and the lady at the counter said it was 45 min wait for a hoagie (insane right...) so I left. Y'all gotta operate like the hoagie spots down south philly. Straight assembly line and crank these sandwiches tf out. 45 min wait for a hoagie is WILD. It smelled great in there though so hopefully I can come back on a day when I have 45 mins to kill
google avatar

Thomas R.

Yelp
All day hoagies. Oh man! I kind of don't want to give this secret away but it's the best hoagie in Fairmount/Brewerytown. First time you gotta go with triple threat. Black owned business! Super friendly!

Myra R.

Yelp
Disappointed! My husband and I were excited about trying their hoagies and drove from Southwest Philly only to be turned away. It was 7pm The door was locked even though people were in the store and the sign said they closed at 9pm. Not sure if the staff was having a meeting. We were given no explanation. We will try again another time. I can't really give a rating if I have not tasted the food!

Denine W.

Yelp
I ordered 2 Chicken Salad **HOAGIE** my 1st time ordering online for delivery. i prayed that i get what i ordered.. all day i soooo had a tasted for this hoagie sandwich..Food deliveryed... but you know what i got ** 2 CHICKEN SALAD ON** RYE** REALLY now what am i to do with this i wanted hoagie not** rye bread** and i don't even like rye ..so now what hum.. let see am i suppose to use some WHITE BREAD .. this is **bull #$#$%&!!!!.. all i got was i'm sorry. B SHIT!! I JUSTwasted my $$ on delivery fees and no food!!!! this bull shit!!!! how do you get Hoagie (LONG ROLL) to RYE BREAD ???

deborah n.

Yelp
The hoagies were good but the wait for them is not worth my time. A good business person would hire more people to help. When I was there only one person was making sandwiches, but there were more people in the back and the line was out the door. I waited in line for 25 minutes, never again. I would like to give them my business but they don't respect my time so I'm going somewhere else.

Randall K.

Yelp
Very good hoagies with lots meats to choose from and ice cream magnificent!! The food is worth the wait and the prices are reasonable

Jose M.

Yelp
i order an all beef italian. Was told the wait was 30-40mins which turn into an hour wait mind you I ordered in person.... They gave me provolone cheese instead of extra American cheese. I've called the store three times to inform them of the mistake no one answers and I live 30 minutes from them. This is my second time going to them the first time was great this time horrible!!

Robin B.

Yelp
If you're dieting and you want to have a "cheat" day you can happily indulge yourself here! Hoagies, with freshly sliced meats ( no pork options) and a variety of cheese( including vegetarian and vegan options... even vegan Mayo!!)on the best rolls w/wo seeds, patiently made to your specification, while you watch, are their forté.You will receive a generous portion of everything you order on your sandwich here ! You could stick to your diet with a freshly made to order salad as well! Then... there's ice cream too! Creamy rich hand scooped ice cream, popular flavors and old time favorites like rum raisin and coffee are displayed for your selection. If ice cream is not your thing, there's usually a selection of home made cake, pudding and cobblers that look and taste like your favorite Auntie prepared them especially for you! The owners know what their customers like so you'll find an assortment of chips and popular beverages here, too. The store is reminiscent of a family operated neighborhood store from ' back in the day'! You can feel the love in the air as the staff is very welcoming, courteous and patient. If you decide to order in person you will need to be patient as well. Because their food is so amazing you may find a long line that moves quickly as the hand crafted masterpieces are created to order. Don't be discouraged, you may see and old friend or strike up conversation and make a new friend while you wait. Leave your autograph on the wall with multicolor chalk and snap a photo or two on your first visit to commemorate the event because you are certain to return!"Regulars" expect the worthwhile wait, however ,the store offers the option to order by phone. There is a counter with a few stools and an ice cream parlor style table and chairs indoors as well as outdoor seating. Now getting back to the diet cheat day... order two hoagies for yourself because the first one will be devoured before you can get home(the aroma will make you unwrap that hoagie and take a bite as soon as you leave the shop!) and you'll be dreaming about more, more, more! I like everything about this establishment!

Yelp
This is the best hoagie I have had! the bread and meat have been fresh each time. Last week they had homemade soup(i had the chicken noodle} hit the spot. I was craving one today but its Sunday. So i guess i will have to wait til Turkey day eve and this will be my lunch and dinner.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to taste the food after waiting another 45 minutes like my last visit. Ordered the all beef Italian hoagie and I can say it was delicious. I give it an 8 out of 10 because the roll was too chewy. Also had a slice of the chocolate cake which was decadently delicious. Again I had to wait 45 minutes and they had 2 people making sandwiches but when it came to my turn, for some reason the woman making sandwiches must have decided it was her break time and left the guy behind to finish off the remaining sandwiches even though there were still a number of people stretching out the door. While the food was good, the overall experience was not. I paid a total of $22.00 and some change for my 2 items. Personally I think the hoagies are over priced but I suspect they charge for the amount of meats they provide which in my case was a lot so it evens out. I only wish they'd answer the phone instead of leaving it off the hook as I tried to call while standing outside in line to place my order to no avail and noticed the phone blinking once I was inside. Also a few patrons left because of the long wait time. AGAIN they need a bigger place instead of the 3 foot wide area to order and more staff with room to make the sandwiches. I expect there will be a sharp decline in business once it gets too cold out. Oh they use Boars Head meat instead of Dietz and Watson got me to thinking they must be out of towners instead of true Philly residents lol

Yelp
Hands down this place has the BEST Hoagies! We came in and (we didn't get his name) the gentleman who was making the hoagies was very nice. Although they were almost closing up, he was kind enough to make us the best hoagie we have ever had. We chose the All Beef Italian Hoagie, it was delicious and was beautifully made. I also got a slice of pound cake. It was perfect. Not too sweet and again one of the best pound cakes I've tasted. Such a great experience for us and next time we are in Philly, we will definitely hit this place up again!!
