Under-the-Radar New Restaurants to Check Out in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Those in the mood for homey Taiwanese fare served in an unfussy room will do well at All-In Cafe. While the exterior signage promotes popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup, the restaurant’s menu includes much more, like rice dishes (braised pork, pork chop), deep-fried delights (cheese sticks, onion rings), and tea-based drinks. The All-In Combo comes with a melange of deep-fried items, including popcorn chicken, oyster mushrooms, squid balls, sweet potatoes, and fish cakes." - Cathy Chaplin

This review is a long time coming. One of my favorite spots in Temple City. All in Cafe, this is a great Taiwanese fast casual restaurant. The food is absolutely authentic, like straight out of the night market authentic! The pork chop rice is absolutely awesome. It's probably the BEST fried pork chop rice in all of LA. Just look at the photos, that's the typical serving size. Once you move the fried pork chop over, you see it's served on a nice bed of rice with some braised pork and half an egg along with some vegetables (sour veggies and some broccoli). The pork chop itself is nicely breaded, and crunchy. Juicy would be an understatement. This is the kind of pork chop you remember from the night markets, freshly fried, hot and juicy. The chicken steak rice is similarly apportioned. Enough food for a grown adult or growing teen. The pop corn chicken rice is great too. The Taiwanese sausage is served with garlic. As far as the restaurant itself, it's a bit on the cozy side, but very clean. Anyone that grew up in Taiwan will remember the manga shelf, and you'll see that here! This truly is a hidden gem of a Taiwanese restaurant. Swing by when you get a chance. Or even order for take out or delivery (Fan Tuan).

Not bad. Big portions. Salty food. If you like salty food this place is good. They are very busy so service is very slow because they only have one staff to do everything. Foods come out very slow as well so if you are in a rush this is not a good place to get food. If not it’s great. No restroom always out of order, so pee before you come.

First time here! Saturday 1 pm, Easy Parking, We went at the perfect timing, One big table left so we got seated right away. All other tables got their food already. So our food was served super fast! It's in the same plaza with 4 Chinese afterschool offices I can imagine if you come at weekday dinner time, you may have to wait for a while for your food. But the food is freshly made, big portions and yummy. I wish we lived closer here so I can get the meals to go often! Oh get the onion and garlic for $0.50 extra to eat with your fried food. It's soooo good!

Yelp
Very nice place to eat, super easy to park, friendly staff, I took taiwanese beef noodle soup and my wife Chicken filet, very tasty and generous portions. Nice combi is the $1.90 tea when u order food. Restaurant is very clean and has a nice cost vibe Will come back.

Yelp
2nd time here, we loved the food and chill vibe! Highly recommend Beef noodle soup and pork chop rice to start off! We have enjoyed variety of main dishese and side orders along with the different teas. Service is friendly and welcoming each time!

Yelp
I really really like their porkchop! The seasoning is so good. The portion is also good for the price. If you like taiwanese style food, this place hits the spot. Small place, as it only has a couple tables, but definitely good for to go. Server was super nice and they have so many deals. Parking is very try easy. They use plastic forks and paper plates, so very cafe/picnic like. I don't mind because the price is very affordable and good. I plan to come back for the pork chop again. Maybe not a great place for a date, but good for ordering to go.

Yelp
Order their pork chop rice, you will not regret it! The pork chops were the perfect texture and had the best crunch. It came out in black takeout boxes. Guess they don't like to wash their dishes. The inside tables and chairs look like hospital cafeteria design lol. Super friendly service and the owner said they opened in March which makes this spot fairly new. 15% if you pay cash and $10 minimum with cc. The drinks were $1 additional for combos during lunch hours. Easy parking right outside in the plaza.

Yelp
Yummy combo! I got the all in one combo. Choose five of the appetizers. I got the popcorn chicken, sweet potato fries, fish cakes, mushrooms and squid balls. I think they're done mushroom and fish cakes are the best! Service is outstanding! Very courteous and helpful. My Chinese is bad and their English is bad, but we got through it! Small little place in a dark corner of parking lot.

Yelp
Parking: All In Cafe is located in a small plaza on the corner of Temple City Blvd and Woodruff. It shares a small parking lot with a SAT prep school and an art school so it does get crowded when parents are there to pick their kids up. Interior: The restaurant is pretty small. It has about 4 or 5 tables of 4 and a bar by the window with a bunch of manga available for customers to read. Service: The person taking orders is very nice and the food does come out pretty quickly. You get a 15% discount if you pay with cash. Food: I tried the fried pork chop rice, popcorn chicken rice, and braised pork belly rice. The fried pork chop was pretty good. It was crispy and had a salt and pepper seasoning. The popcorn chicken was rather bland. It did not really have the traditional basil taste with the Taiwanese spices. I did not really like the braised pork belly. I felt that it was a bit too salty and a dry for me. All of the meals come with some veggies, braised tofu, and egg. Overall I would give this place a 3.5 stars on food but I am always for supporting our local small businesses.

Yelp

Yelp
*** $10 minimum to use credit cards - Visa and Mastercards only *** All In Cafe is a small Taiwanese cafe and I feel like this cafe is catered to students from neighboring ACI College Prep and LA Art Academy. [Parking]: Free and easy plaza parking. [Service]: I initially picked and sat on a table with 4 seats, but the staff asked me to move to a smaller table with 2 seats even though the cafe only had one other dine-in customer. The cafe served water with a hint of lemon as opposed to plain water. [Menu]: Pretty simple menu and few key items include beef noodle soup, popcorn chicken, and pork chop rice. For fried category, free addition of onions and garlic slices to fried dishes for added flavor. *** Pork Chop Rice ($14.99): This bento was actually quite solid and pork chop was fried very nicely. Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodle Soup ($15.99): Solid noodle, but broth was the real star - super flavorful and not overly greasy. Beef wasn't half bad, but had more portion on meat than tendon. *** I don't know if I am "all in" on this cafe, but this place got some surprisingly good above-average Taiwanese classic food. 4.5-star on food, but bump down on amenity & service.

Yelp
This spot is okay. The pork chop was pretty oily and greasy. Popcorn chicken was good but the side portion is very small. They are pretty quick when you call in for a Togo order.
google avatar

Kawamura K.

Yelp
We ordered delivery. The food was packed well and was not soggy. The food was good but, it was either over seasoned or under seasoned. Broth for noodles needed salt. The popcorn chicken was spicy but no salt. We got some veggies that were fried and tasty but, a little oily for my taste. We would order again by maybe be more direct about the seasonings.

Yelp
Quick and easy Taiwanese fast food. I like their deep fries. The pork chop is well-marinated and the batter is seasoned properly. I also tried the minced pork over rice, which was delicious too. Cons: Everything is served in the to-go box and I wonder if they are pre-made and microwave heated once ordered? The restroom is not open, even to the customers now. You will need to use the public restroom in the park at the other side of the parking lot. It is very inconvenient and discounting for the dine-in services. Pros: Food taste is good. Service is very fast and attentive. Cozy ambiance with 3-4 tables of seating. Reasonable pricing and parking is never a problem. Overall: 3.5 stars

Yelp
Wow delicious pork chop rice! Recently ordered a bunch of pork chop rice bentos since we did a boardgame night with friends. The pork chop rice is about $15 and comes with a good amount of deep fried pork chop, rice, minced pork topping, and veggies! The pork chop itself is deep fried to a crispy perfection, but the meat was still very juicy and not overcooked. One bento is so big, it literally fed me for 2 meals. They have indoor dining, lots of cute little tables and there's lots of free parking in the parking lot, but street parking is also available for free. The lady working there was super nice. I called my order in for pick up and she let me know that you can get 15% off if you pay with cash. I'll definitely be back to try more!
google avatar

Yelp
Located where the Bull Demon King use to be, this new spot came up on Yelp and so I decided to come right after getting off work. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a gentleman who walked me through the current menu items and promotions. If you pay cash, you get 15% off your entire check. Based off others suggestions, I ordered the pork chop rice and black tea. The food was hot and generously seasoned. The portion was quite huge. The black tea was aromatic and bitter as I like my cold teas without any sugar/syrup or honey. The place is small, but clean and tidy. No restrooms available. I would consider ordering takeout next time due to this reason. Highly recommended.

Yelp
A great small Taiwanese cafe to fulfill your Taiwanese cravings. We came around 7pm on a Friday night and all the tables were filled. We ordered the pork chop rice and the popcorn chicken rice plates. I like how tender and juicy both proteins came out and the portions were good for the price point. I do wish the vegetable side dishes were less salty but it could be just an off day. I also did not love that they used to go containers for dine in customers as well but i understand it's probably a cost of business. Overall we would come back to support this local business.

Yelp
I like it .I love the braised pork belly rice‍ you should try checking out the place. I hope you'll like it.

Yelp
03/07/2024 Couldn't think of where to go and this place pops up on Yelp. It was close to closing time and I usually hate doing this. I called in a pick up order instead of getting there just to eat. I called a little more than 30 minutes to closing time. When I got here, there was no one eating here or I would have been the only one. Food was ready and all I have to do is pay. It's $10 minimum to use a card. I want to come back and order the fried oyster mushrooms again, those were really good. Come back and order all the side dishes for a full menu, that's what I'm planning.

Yelp
I was on the way home from running errands and decided go out of my way to pick up to go from All In Café for the very first time. I've driven through and in Temple City a lot other times and have not noticed this café. It's a plaza with minimal action and All In Café is located in the corner. FOOD Porkchop Rice- comes with white rice, 3 small side veggies: cabbage, mustard greens, and green beans, 1/2 stewed egg, and 1 stewed tofu, and porkchop. The porkchop was fried very crispy and more unique than other places I've been to but the meat is on the thin and dried side. Fried Fish Cake (forgot to take photos)- the fish cake pieces were very thin but fried well. I added onion and chili powder too. The serving size was very little even for a side dish. I was truly bummed about this. PARKING There is a parking lot in the front of the café. SERVICE The staff was friendly and nice. From the time I ordered to pickup it took about 10-15 minutes at most. Overall, it was mediocre food. I wish they served larger portions especially the sides. I wouldn't go out of the way next time.

Yelp
Minimalist small restaurant serving authentic Taiwanese fare. I recommend the popcorn chicken and cuttlefish balls with complimentary optional garlic and onion pieces. Braised beef noodles is decent, but I was hoping for more of the braised flavor. This one is a milder clearer broth. Fried pork chop bento is their specialty and comes with tender pork, veggies, drizzle of minced pork over rice, and tofu. Good courteous service. They can do a side of blanched veggies like cabbage, broccoli, string beans with meat sauce for $8.99 if you want some extra veggies. They also have a variety of tea drinks like wintermelon tea. Free parking in the large ample lot in front of the corner restaurant. It may be a bit loud when busy at lunch time so hopefully they can add some sound barrier cushioning to the walls. Overall, a good spot for a quick, no frills authentic Taiwanese meal.

Claire C.

Yelp
Their fried pork chop is the most close to the authentic Taiwanese street style pork chop. It's sooooo goood! I also loved their fried tempura. It's not flat fish cake style but more like the ones you will get in Taiwan.
google avatar

Li Z.

Yelp
A solid, local Taiwanese eatery to get noodles. The inside is clean, new. Nothing crazy fancy but service was fast. I got their half beef/half braised pork "dry" noodle. generous portions, a hefty amount of meat as well. I got some pickled vegetables for $0.50 more. I would definitely come back here if in the area and would like to try their other menu items as well.
google avatar

Fanny S.

Yelp
The popcorn chicken rice and beef noodles are super authentic Taiwanese. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Truman W.

Yelp
I am happy to report two very legit Taiwanese pork chop rice places in the 626 -- this place and "Why Thirsty". The portion is larger here and you get more veggies, also stewed tofu and egg. But it's fried pork chop that's the star of the show, and this place does not disappoint. The pork chop is thick, juicy and crispy, goes great with the white rice and minced pork sauce. The restaurant was pretty empty on a Saturday, I hope they get more business. Taiwanese food is not gourmet food that gets a lot of TikTok or IG exposure, but mom and pop eateries like "All In Cafe" and "Why Thirsty" deserve more recognition.
google avatar

Elaine L.

Yelp
Get the braised pork over noodle and you will have no regrets. Super easy - call in your order, pay with cash for a discount, pick up your food, profit.

Yelp
So so happy we found this place! I grew up in Taiwan and can confirm this is one of the few places that really get the Taiwanese flavors RIGHT. The portions are great & prices are fair. The owner & staff are always friendly and really care about whether or not we enjoyed the items we ordered. Their fried snacks (I've tried the popcorn chicken, tofu, oyster mushroom and tempura) are all DELICIOUS. The beef noodle soup has amazing flavor too (though to some people it may be a TAD on the saltier side).
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
I tried the all in combo and braised pork rice. Both were good and made quickly. There is a free soda if you check in on yelp and pay with cash. The employees are nice and there is plenty of parking. There are some chinese comics inside.

Yelp
Very authentic Taiwan food. Friendly staff. Quaint feel like being in Taiwan. Definitely recommend trying out the beef noodle.

Yelp
All In Cafe offers a delightful Taiwanese dining experience, serving up flavorful dishes that are sure to please. The beef noodles I tried were exceptional, with a generous serving of tender beef and a rich, savory broth. The braised pork rice was another highlight, bursting with flavor. Despite walking in 10 minutes before closing, the staff were welcoming, quickly preparing a delicious meal. The revamped, clean interior adds to the pleasant atmosphere, making All In Cafe a great choice for Taiwanese cuisine lovers.

Yelp
Saw that a new Taiwanese spot opened, so of course I had to give it a try. Located in a plaza with cram/prep schools (ACI & an art portfolio preparation), the parking lot was fairly empty on a Sunday. Upon entering the store, there are around 5 tables. We ordered the fried fish cake, braised beef noodle soup, braised pork rice, and pork chop rice. Note that even if you eat in store, your order comes in to-go containers. The beef noodle soup had nice chewy noodles and around 5 pieces of beef, with a comforting soup that wasn't spicy. The pork chop rice was a little heavy on the pepper salt but overall still good. The portions are on the smaller end for the price. I'd say that the food itself is pretty authentic for what you can find in the states and a 4-star, but what makes this place a 5-star is the service. The staff members were friendly and struck up a conversation with us. You could tell that the owner spent a lot of time developing the menu and is passionate about his line of work. He even gave us a sample of an upcoming unreleased menu item - peanut tofu soup (花生豆花), which was not too sweet and reminiscent of what can be found in Taiwan. Overall, I would come back to support this small business! I can see this place being super busy on weekdays with orders from students and their parents, and they also sell frozen meal kits of some items made in-store.

Yelp
This place recently opened near my dad's place and I was excited to get a new Taiwanese place since there arent too many Taiwanese restaurants (besides boba shops that also serve food) in the area these days. The food is decent but nothing that really makes it stand out. Everything is served in a to go container. The beef in my beef noodle soup was decent, some bits where there was more connective tissue needed to be cooked down a bit longer but still chewable. The flavor is good overall, but the noodle is too basic with only one kind to choose from as opposed to the multiple noodle shops around that have noodle variety. The price is slightly high for a casual meal. Overall I still like it for the Taiwanese food (I tried a bit of my dad's minced pork rice) but for beef noodle soup there are several better options nearby.
google avatar

Sam T.

Yelp
There are plenty of restaurants that sell similar food even in that general immediate area, yet for whatever reason, I was drawn to this place and gave it a try. Food: They have a pretty tiny menu. Several variations of noodles and 3-4 rice sets. I opted for the pork chop rice which came with a portion of broccoli, napa cabbage, piece of stewed tofu, and minced pork belly (on the rice). Everything tasted really good. I can tell the oil they use is a bit cleaner because the fried Porkchop did not have the typical fried pork stench. The portion while not as massive as their competitors nearby was decent amount. Definitely come here if you're more about quality versus quantity. Service: Very friendly guy at the counter. Environment: Easy parking. The interior seating looks pretty fun. It almost looks as though they're trying to attract high school kids to eat there though. Price: Average price for this style of food. I'd definitely come back again to try their beef noodle soup.

Yelp
So glad to have an authentic Taiwanese restaurant nearby! I ordered pick-up on their website and appreciate their simple menu. I was still required to pay in store, you have to spend $10 minimum to use credit card. The cashier had my food ready and was nice. There was Taiwanese pop music playing and they also have Mangas like One Piece to read for your pleasure. 3.5/5 Braised Pork Rice The rice bowl is pretty large and I like how they use Braised pork belly instead of ground pork. The rice was a bit too wet for me and the pork was okay. 3.5/5 Porkchop Rice My husband tried this dish, the bento is a large portion it includes fried Porkchop, rice, tofu, and veggies (broccoli/cabbage). The seasoning of the pork is similar tasting to popcorn chicken. Overall I think it is a decent Taiwanese restaurant. I think there are competitors nearby with the same dishes are better tasting, but the portion, price and proximity will bring me back. I will have to try the beef noodle soup next time interesting to see how they have three different broth flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic Taiwanese restaurant, friendly service, with 5-6 tables for dine-in or you can order to-go. We enjoyed everything we ordered: beef noodle soup broth was good with big chunks of meat & yummy handmade noodles; braised pork rice was flavorful; popcorn chicken had big chunks of meat & fried to perfection, the fried green beans & sweet potato fries were also very tasty. We really liked the winter melon tea, make sure to ask for less ice. Unfortunately they ran out of pork chop rice, guess we'll need to go back to try that next time.

J L.

Yelp
Great Taiwanese food. We ordered way too much food and kids couldn't get enough. The waitress was super friendly and gave us great recommendations. The sweet fried dumplings were delicious.

Enligh T.

Yelp
Delicious Taiwanese food done right. Nice customer service, fry chicken is so crispy. Their boba milk tea is good too!

Vivian L.

Yelp
The beef noodle soup had a rich broth and tender beef, enhanced by aromatic herbs. The pork chop rice featured a juicy pork chop drizzled with flavorful braised pork over fluffy rice.the pork chop was juicy with a crispy exterior. If you love pork chop rice you gotta try this out. Additionally, we appreciated that the drinks allowed for adjustable sugar and ice levels, adding a nice personal touch. Overall, it was a satisfying meal that left us eager to return.

Yelp
Although we noticed the negative reviews on Yelp, we still decided to give it a try since we were nearby. Food was just ok but the owner was not friendly.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
I ordered their pork rice combo to go. The pork was a bit fatty for me. The braised tofu didn't have much flavor. The minced pork on the rice was pretty good. I might have had high expectations based on the reviews but I kind of disappointed. The price is average, $14.99 plus tax. Plenty of parking.

Tim C.

Yelp
Had a craving for Taiwanese popcorn chicken, decided to try this spot. Was very quick and the chicken was bomb af, big pieces of meat. Will definitely come back to try the rest of their menu

Yelp
Very authentic Taiwanese fried food with lots of fried onions and sliced garlic Popcorn chicken is huge and very juicy Fried King Oyster Mushrooms are fried perfectly, golden crispy outside and puff and juicy right when you bites it! A must have!

Yelp
So happy to have new Taiwanese restaurant grand opening here . We ordered pork rice and beef noodle soup. . They had many Beef in noodles soup soooo delicious. "Highly recommended!"

Tiffany F.

Yelp
5/5 popcorn chicken and minced pork over rice was amazing, the flavor was just right. The ratio on the minced pork over rice was on point. They did not skimp, the young lady at the counter was so nice, she noticed that I like my food spice, she come over and asked if I wanted to try their Taiwanese spicy sauce, it was great! I wish I lived closer to come here more often! :)

May S.

Yelp
Newly Opened Authentic Taiwanese Fried Snacks. If you have trouble finding good fried fish cake 炸甜不辣 please come try out this place! Their drinks use cane sugar 蔗糖and tea leaves imported from Taiwan. Popcorn chicken has a lot of meat. Very juicy We inhaled our pork chop rice so didn't take a photo of it p.s. the photo below is our leftovers they have big portions don't worry
google avatar

Andy C.

Yelp
Very nice owner, delicious beef noodle soup: they have different flavor choices (braised/tomato/spicy). Excellent broth and noodles, plentiful veggies and meat. Can't wait to go back to try more things. Easy parking.
google avatar

Sylvia T.

Yelp
Very salty Limited service The ambiance? Nothing to talk about I enjoy Taiwanese food. But I was actually mad when I left paying close to $60 for 2 persons before tips for food that tasted very unappetizing. I left all the unfinished food there. Needless to say, sorry, I won't be back.
google avatar

Jerel S.

Yelp
My friend introduced me to this hole in a wall. I've had plenty of pork chop rice from other places before, but this was amazing. I was shook by how crispy and juicy it was. I want to know how the popcorn chicken so I'll definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Ataru Y.

Yelp
The portions are big. We ordered the ALL IN combination and a beef noodle. They have great service and reasonable prices. Update: The only issue I have is that even for dine-in, they serve the food in to-go plastic bowls, and the beef noodle soup is very hot! I understand they might want to save time or may be short-handed, but it would feel much better if they served the beef noodle soup in a proper bowl.

Qianfei Y.

Yelp
This is my third time coming to this restaurant this week. I really love their food! If you're not sure what to eat, try the pork chop rice or guabao--they're amazing! Trust me, you'll love this place.

Yelp
I am Taiwanese. I want this place to succeed. I love beef noodle soup. This beef noodle soup was very disappointing, expensive and small. There are instant noodle bowls with more flavor and that's not a hyperbole. On top of that, this sad beef noodle soup this is supposedly their signature dish. There are so many noodle places in our area and as much as I love beef noodle soup, I would rather go get any other soup noodle. I hope the restaurant improves their beef noodle soup, in flavor, portion and price. The broth is thin and tastes mostly of soy sauce water, the meat needs to be more tender, and the pickled veggies didn't open up the flavor because there wasn't much flavor to begin with. I also order the pork chop rice, that was great. The spices were nice and it was cooked perfectly. The minced pork were big chunks which is always nice. However, it could be a bit more reduced to make the sauce a bit thicker and stickier. It's a bit pricy like the BNS, but for what I got, I think it was fair. Again, I want the restaurant to succeed. They really need to improve their BNS. The service is great, Taiwanese people pride ourselves in that so they did great. Not much ambiance really, but it's fine. They did have serialized comics that all Taiwanese kids know about, 寶島少年. That just hits us right in the feels. Anyway, if they improve the BNS, I will improve my score. I look forward to BNS that makes me miss home. 加油

Yelp
With the huge amount of competition for a taiwanese bento in the 626, this place isn't worth considering. I ordered a popcorn chicken rice for about $14. After about 25 minutes of waiting I was just met with disappointment. There was like 5-6 pieces of solid chicken in this thing. I confirmed with the owner and he said this was a normal serving. Quite disappointing. Needless to say I won't be coming back. It's not worth the price they ask for and quite mediocre. I can only imagine how much you get just for the snack sized order. This is "everything but popcorn chicken" rice.
