If you are starving and need barbecue.... It will do. But overall not a recommended place. It has nice people but is a result of few choices in the region. I ordered a 1/4 lb sliced brisket and hotlink. Not quite sure that the brisket actually would have been 1/4 lb. The brisket was mediocre quality and not very moist. The hot link was decent. Two slices of cheese and a soft drink and it was over $20. The cheddar slices were actually very good. Seems a bit expensive for the provided seating and lack of atmosphere or amenities. The restroom is one you'll have to walk outside and around the building to get into from the outside. Seems to be a classic case of overpriced Texas barbecue that doesn't live up to its pricing. If you can wait... I'd recommend driving to Tyler or Jacksonville to have more choices .

First, the service was not bad. It was just the middle of the road. The food was great. I had sliced beef and sausage with potato salad and coleslaw slaw. Price is about what you'd expect for a BBQ joint in this day and age. I can recommend them and would gladly eat there again.

I try to be fair and over all the food was good not the best I have ever ate however being out in the middle of know where it is what it is. We have stopped several times coming from Lufkin to Canton for work and we have had the brisket sandwich that was pretty good that is 4 stars. We had some of the bratwurst sausage and it is way over priced for what you get. The turkey sandwich was good no issues. The people who work at All Star Bar-B-Q in Rusk Tx act like they work in a factory and have no experience in working with the public in general. Not friendly, a bit rude, not helpful at all and could care less if you have questions or issues. FOOD IS TO EXPENSIVE EVERYWHERE however we like to eat out alot and when you spend 30-50 bucks for a meal for 2 people you expect to get decent service and maybe a smile for your money lol We will not be back we gave it a try 5 times in the past 6 months and we will look on down the road for another friendlier place

Food is good! I had bbq tater with beans and tater salad. My only complaint is the people taking the orders are not very friendly. Need to do some work on customer service!

We have dined at this restaurant before and enjoyed our meals, but our experience today was disappointing. The service was inadequate, and the quality of the food did not meet the standards we had come to expect. The employee who served us seemed indifferent about taking our order and appeared annoyed when we inquired about the side dishes. As a result of this experience, I will not be returning to this restaurant and cannot recommend it to anyone in Tyler, Texas, especially since it used to be known for its good meals.

We were on our way home from Beaumont, and it was lunch . I saw this barbecue stop...so I made a U turn and went back to get something. You pull up and walk to a window to order, and then when your order is ready, they call your name. If I could give them a zero for service, I would! There were plenty of employees working there to handle the number of customers. Not a hello, or thank you or what else... these women have no business working in service! They forgot our BBQ sauce, so my husband went back to the window to ask for it No one was waiting... no one around...just us. One large girl was draped over the front counter just chilling...one girl was facing towards the window handling food...one lady with a ponytail kept walking back and forth in front of the window not doing anything. After standing at the window for 5 minutes and their totally ignoring him, he finally tapped on the window, thinking they just didn't see him. But, I was parked right in front of the window and saw the whole interaction. Girl, handling food saw him and told other 2 he was there...the large girl didn't move an inch...the pacing lady looked at the window and walked off. The girl handling food said something again... then the ponytail lady comes to the window and tells the large girl to see what he wanted. She opened the window and didn't say, "Can I help you...just stared at him... he says you forgot to give us our BBQ sauce. She closed the window without a word. Says something to the ponytail lady who gets us the BBQ sauce opens the window, hands it to him, and slams the window shut without a word! The BBQ sandwich was good, but it couldn't make up for the sorry service. The owner needs to clean the house! I really should have counted how many times these girls slammed that stupid window

Was a little disappointed; after hearing great reviews & raves about the food, we went this evening shortly before they closed (which may be part of the problem). However, the food had literally NO TASTE whatsoever. My daughter and I both ordered the chopped barbeque brisket sandwich and it was served on a COLD bun that wasn't toasted AT ALL and even with the sauce that we were given, it literally had no taste whatsoever. My grandson got the double meat plate (sliced pork and sliced brisket) and he said it wasn't that great either. We went because we had heard about the dining room being decorated in Astros memorabilia, which from what we could see, that part was true (Dining room closes at 4:00), so we had to order our food at the window outside and take it to go. Again, it was 6:30-6:45 pm when we arrived & they close at 7:00, so that may be part of the problem but I don't know that I would go back again. The girl that took our order seemed nice enough.

I came because I wanted a nice juicy barbecue pork sandwich. I will admit that there was a lot of pork on the sandwich but every last bit of it was so incredibly dry and overcooked that I only ate a few fork pools. I grew up working in my aunt's smokehouse and barbeque restaurant so I know what barbecue is supposed to be. I always loved pork barbecue because it was so incredibly moist but this is the driest meat I have ever been served. I specifically requested extra sauce on my sandwich but the sauce is so bad I'm glad that they didn't give me what I ordered. I did go back and request more sauce which is 25 cents for a tiny little cup and I got two cups. But it has a very strong vinegar taste and was not at all to my liking. For my sides I chose coleslaw and potato salad the only third option being beans. The potato salad wasn't bad except that there was way too much black pepper in it. Likewise the coleslaw wasn't bad it was just also very dry. The place was clean and the service was good but the food was....

Yelp
Service great. Divey cute little place. Clean with Astro's memorabilia decor. The pork and beef loaded potatoes were ok. The meat was not flavorful, bland taste. Also, the potato was large but toppings skimpy.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! There's a friendly hello when you walk in and have a good day when you leave. The Astros memorabilia make for a cool surrounding The beans and potato salad are delicious. The turkey is super moist with not too much smoke.

Yelp
While on a road trip we happened upon All Star Bar B Q. So happy we stopped! The Turkey and potato salad was wonderful and the baked potato with shredded beef was out of this world. Excellent sauce as well. The owner gave us a tour of the kitchen. If you are an Astros fan you must stop and see the memorabilia collection. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
I was in town for business and stumbled across this little BBQ gem. The pork ribs were fall off the bone delicious, the brisket (loose cut/moist) was some of the most tender brisket I have ever had. My only disappointment was they were sold out on dessert. I highly recommend you stop on in for some delicious BBQ.

Yelp
Super fun place to look around, especially if you are an Astros fan! The owner was there and took time to show us some of the memorabilia he has displayed all over the place. Seriously, even the ceiling is decorated. And while I was all about the decor, I also enjoyed my meal. Reasonably priced, very tasty, and generous servings. Look for the sauce on the table.

Yelp
Pretty good would go again Forgot the bbq sauce but we didn't need it because it was delish

Yelp
If you are an Astro baseball fan, this is a bucket list place. The place has a walk up order window as well indoor sitting area. The BBQ was delicious and fresh! Some BBQ joints menus are overwhelming but this one had all the BBQ basics to choose from! There was some much Astro memorabilia to look at too!

Yelp
If you are a huge Astros fan you must eat here. I swear this place will take you back memory lane. The chop beef sandwiches are delicious and just the right amount of fat to beef ratio. Sauce is tangy and not too sweet.

Yelp
When you walk through the door you are greeted by an aroma of what BBQ is supposed to smell like. I got the 2 meat plate with brisket and ribs. I can't even say enough about how great the ribs were. Tender... perfectly seasoned ... fall off the bone good. The brisket was just as tender as the ribs. I'm very picky about my BBQ. To top off the great food the staff was super friendly. This place is worth the drive.

Yelp
BBQ doesn't get much better than the BBQ at Allstar! Great food with the best service in town! Love our locally owned businesses!

Yelp
Sliced beef sandwich was not made as ordered. Beef was not smokey but rather tasted liked it was cooked in an oven.

Yelp
Finding yourself looking forward to a reliable, independent restaurant representing local flavor on a thousand-mile trip is a rarity. So while I won't claim the All-Star Bar B Q serves the absolute best brisket in east Texas, I will say its authenticity and friendliness makes it a worthwhile stop. All Star is in a tree-shaded roadhouse in Rusk, a few miles from the junction with Route 21 that delivers us to College Station, TX. The name is a baseball reference that proclaims the owner's passion for the Houston Astros. You'll find a lunchtime worth of memorabilia inside. Also inside you'll find the traditional presentation of chopped or sliced beef, turkey and sausage, along with the proper side dishes: pinto beans, potato salad, Mac and cheese and coleslaw. Order a sliced beef plate and you'll get bar b q the way it should be. Slices of juicy, slightly smoky beef with sauce in a cup on the side, a couple of slices of white bread and your sides. Their process does not overwhelm the taste of the meat. It enhances. The owner is engaging and friendly. Sometimes, these places can be intimidating if you're not a regular. Not so here. Everything's on the menu board and it's all clear and simple. Tells you something about life in Rusk, Texas. If that's not better than a box burger, I don't know what is.

Steve G.

Yelp
Used to be a Bodacious BBQ back in the day, still supplied by the same companies as Bodacious but the owner stuck to the formula that worked (at least for the ribs). I live in Tyler now and will still drive all the way down to Rusk for the ribs from All Star, don't know what exactly they do different but the ribs are far above the quality you get from any nearby Bodacious. They are nice and smoky, have a wonderful rub that is salty and sweet (with a little spice kick also), and are fall off the bone juicy with larger than average (compared to Bodacious in Tyler) ribs. The sides are good, beans are definitely above average. Sliced beef, sausage and sloppy joe are always "must haves" on my order.

Yelp
We had 4 graduates in our family this year, we had a party her at our house so we decided to do BBQ, I called 2 weeks in advance for 50 people and a week before the party it grew to 100 people so I called back at ordered for 100 and it was not a problem at all, I will use all star bar BBQ again it was so good... Thank you

Yelp
5 Stars , need I say more. Ok I will fantastic BBQ. Great atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Stop here everytime I'm passing through. Have for years now.

Vic T.

Yelp
Texas bbq at its best. Tender brisket, juicy ribs, perfect turkey, and do I dare say sloppy joes. There is only one more thing I can say about this place... the best bake potato I have ever gulped down my throat. Give it a go, if I could I would take the whole shop with me to Hawaii.
