Alla Beccaccia, Valbandon (Croatia): Authentic Istrian Flavors & Boškarin Beef

"Just inland in Valbandon, this modern Istrian konoba is led by Annamaria Kolić alongside her husband and sommelier, Ivor, and celebrates the freshest local ingredients with seasonally inspired recipes. Bread (including gluten-free) and pasta are homemade, and the menu spans meat and vegetarian options: Istrian prosciutto and pancetta, hard cow’s milk cheese, bone marrow with an herb crust, and Istrian beef tongue with sauerkraut and horseradish to start; white truffle pasta, peasant-style pasta with tomato sauce, Istrian sausage, pine nuts, and capers, or posutice with cabbage, Istrian prosciutto, and Kumparička goat cheese among the first courses. Mains spotlight regional traditions such as Istrian beef liver with sweet and spicy apples, slowly braised Boškarin neck, and, by reservation, free-range rooster cooked under a peka—a bell-shaped dome covered with embers that yields tender, flavorful meat after hours of slow cooking. A wooden ceiling and a large fireplace set the scene for winter peka cooking, while a spacious terrace and garden enable outdoor meat grilling in summer. Game regularly appears (wild boar, pheasant, or venison), and for dessert, the Čokooliva blends chocolate, vanilla gelato, olive oil, and chili pepper. The kitchen values and showcases prized Boškarin beef, a point of regional pride." - Sarah Scaparone

"A quintessentially modern Istrian konoba (tavern), this venue is both rustic and cosy. Under a large traditional wooden ceiling, a large fireplace stands out, also used for preparing some dishes, such as the excellent veal slow-cooked under the typical bell covered with embers. The menu reflects the authentic flavours of Istria: dishes that are generous in portion size and taste, simple, fragrant and predominantly meat-based. Among the desserts, Čokooliva deserves a mention: served in a Martini cocktail glass, a creamy vanilla ice cream is topped with a drizzle of dark chocolate enriched with crumbled peanuts, while a delicate drizzle of homemade extra virgin olive oil is revealed at the bottom." - Michelin Inspector

The MICHELIN Guide Croatia: Focus on two Istrian offers in comparison

"On this peninsula enriched by medieval villages, rolling hills, and some of the most beautiful bays of the Adriatic, I found a trattoria (konoba) that makes hospitality its essence and stands out as a gem dedicated exclusively to serving the finest local meat and fish." - Sarah Scaparone

A proper konoba done right. The service is genuinely friendly without trying too hard, and the whole place keeps that authentic, local feel—just polished enough to feel a bit upscale, but never losing the charm. The open fireplace where they cook adds a whole extra layer of atmosphere; you smell and see the food being made, and it sets the tone immediately. The meat dishes are the star: perfectly cooked, full of flavour, exactly what you hope for from a konoba that actually knows what it’s doing. If you want great food, warm service, and a place that feels real rather than tourist-designed, this is it. I’d happily come back.

My parents decided to treat my wife and me to dinner for our wedding anniversary, and after they found out that we were planning to go to this restaurant, they called the restaurant and asked us to pay later online for everything we would eat, and the restaurant staff immediately agreed and surprised us upon arrival by explaining that our dinner had been paid for and that they wished us a happy wedding anniversary. Such an approach to guests and trust is not seen every day. Every compliment and recommendation for the restaurant! The food is fantastic, the ambiance is unforgettable, and the service is world-class. Thanks again and we will definitely be back.

Very nice high quality restaurant in a secluded location (we didn't book rooms). We arrived there later, just before the kitchen closed. However, we were still served by a very friendly waiter who offered us a slightly reduced selection from the menu. I like The can-do attitude. The Tartuffe Pasta was amazing and the prices did not shock us despite the posh atmosphere (landscaped gardens, exquisite lighting etc).

Truly amazing place in a tranquil location, room was very clean and cozy. A cherry on an already sweet cake is the restaurant. Food there was exquisite and staff attentive and very welcoming. Perfect vacation location for a stay in Istria region

I haven't been here since the change of the owner, but the place kept the value completely. Service, atmosphere and the food. I loved roasted skuta and peas appetizer. We had lamb and beef as main dish, both super fresh and well prepared. The lamb was prepared on the grill just next to our table. The house red wine is also very good. I will go back!

An amazing restaurant with great food and lovely ambience. The staff were very polite and the lunch was very relaxed, which we hadn’t planned for and might have liked the pace of the food to be quicker. We had 4 courses over 2 and a half hours. Luckily, the food was delicious and well presented so we didn’t mind the wait.

Great restaurant with delicious food and very lovely setting. Our waiter was very friendly and spoke 3 languages. The tongue appetiser and ox neck were the highlights.

This is nice cozy restaurant situated near Fazana. They serve food outside on the grass under the trees and it makes it more romantic and cozy. It is very family friendly. We called to book half an hour before and regardless that they were full they did not turn us down since we are with kids. Food is perfect, we tried wild boar and also the chicken under the pot. Deserts are awsome. Wery warm recomendation.
