Allegretti's Bakery

This bakery is second to none. Not only can you not find any better cakes, pastries, cookies, donuts, or sweets they have even better customer service. They are always so kind and so helpful. They have been open for over sixty years and that is a testament of their outstanding quality and service. We drive from 45 minutes away from Lake Forest just to go to this bakery. If you have not been here yet, and have a taste for something sweet, don't hesitate to give them a try. For all the people that have been here before you know how amazing they are already.

Best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had. I knew it would be different when they have a big sign out front promoting pumpkin CHEESE pie. Never been here before, and I appreciated the patience and friendliness. I was able to try their coconut cream pie and had the same reaction for how well made it was. I can’t wait to try future baked goods!

I am new to the area and was told that this is the place for donuts. Before I even entered the bakery I could smell how good it was going to be. There was a small line but the staff moved through it quickly and with a smile. Looking at the options, it was overwhelming but in the best way possible. Everything looked amazing and I asked for suggestions from other people I line. I ended up with donuts, brownies, turnovers and canolis. The sugar cinnamon donuts and canolis were the stand outs but everything was delicious. Can't wait to go back and try all the other options. Even the bread looked amazing. When I left, the line was out the door. Guess I got there at the perfect time.

OK, I know they’re famous for their chocolate donuts and rightfully so probably the best in the city. I take it back. They are the best in the city. But if I was to give second place, I would give these apple Fritters, they’re absolutely amazing!! There is no skimping on apples in these apple fritters. They have been there for over 60 years original owners, I would say they’re doing something right.

A great neighborhood bakery with lots of good things, including pizzas to go and to reheat at home to eat plenty of parking and it’s in a strip mall. Is that friendly and very helpful. The prices are very reasonable.

Stopped in to try the chocolate frosted donut. The cake donut was very soft and light. It was good. I also enjoyed the vanilla long john and the chocolate filled with custard. I like the chocolate they use because it's more like fudge. I will definitely go back and try some other pastries and the pizza bread.

Fast service. We stopped on the way back to the city bc we saw a sign that said chicagos best donuts. We decided to be the judge and ended up leaving with donuts and some delicious baked goods. Everything was overwhelming and delicious. The bakery is super tiny and got crowded fast. It was cute, everyone seemed to know each other in line. Seems like an awesome local spot. Will back back.

I used to really love coming here but the service is no good. The employees are super rude. They correct you when you ask for things and get frustrated if you don’t know what you want right away. I asked for a “regular” donut not a cake donut and she got upset with me and said “what’s a regular donut!? It’s called “raised” I’m like ok that one. She huffed at me. We aren’t all bakers… I’m going to try another bakery. I also found white hair in my donut that grosses me out so bad.

I've ordered numerous birthday cakes (all with a requested simple design) and have picked up donuts on my way to work from this place....NEVER have i been disappointed with either! The variety of cake filling and icing is fantastic! Prices are reasonable...highly recommend!

Amazing local bakery in an area full of amazing bakeries. I would say the have the best doughnuts hands down of all the places in the area. Don't be fooled by the chains with their super fancy custom doughnuts. I have had many and none were as moist and fresh as Allegretti's They have a limited amount of styles but when you make the basics well you don't need to dress up with other flavors to cover up that the basic doughnut was not up to snuff. The staff is great doing there best to get you what you need while dealing with large crowds on holidays.

Cake donuts are normally thick and the kind of dry where you need a glass of milk to wash it down. That is NOT the case here at Allegretti's. The cake donuts are light and addictive. I can honestly say that my mental health is way too dependent on those cake donuts. Also, their other desserts are pretty good too, and cheap! Over the holidays I got two donuts and two or three cakes/custards, and the total price was under $10. Any other bakery would make you pay at least $20 if not more. Besides all of that, Allegretti's reminds me of my childhood neighborhood bakery. It was a small joint, no frills, wood panels on the walls, but damn good pastries. That's what you get at Allegretti's - no frills and good pastries.

Absolutely fantastic family owned and operated old school bakery! Fresh, classic and delicious, very nostalgic typical hole in the wall place! Friendly service, very welcoming!!

This famous local bakery has been around for decades tucked away in a small strip mall off of Lawrence Avenue in Norridge. This small bakery makes fresh pastries and donuts daily. They are famous for all of their pastries, but they have a cult following for one donut in particular their chocolate "crack" donut. My first visit was on Halloween. The bakery had about six customers and a couple women working behind the counter. This place is extremely old school Everyone is so nice, but be prepared to wait if there are more than three customers. Everything moves somewhat slow. I waited for about 25 minutes for my turn in line. I simply asked for the chocolate donut and they knew exactly what I was talking about. No clarification needed. I double checked and asked if this the "Crack" donut. The worker smiled and said yes and that this was the famous chocolate donut. I first heard about this bakery on Chicago's Best show that was on a couple of years ago, but has since been cancelled. I always wanted to try these donuts because people said literally that you cannot eat just one. I waited to get home to fully enjoy the donut. I sat down to open the box to review six gorgeous donuts perfectly frosted. My first bite was extraordinary. The frosting was almost a fudge consistency. The donut itself had a slight crunch. I was in pure heaven. My only thought was I wish I bought more than six. I found myself after the donuts were all gone dreaming of going back and getting more. A week later I went back to get a dozen of these chocolate donuts. I must say this time the service was much faster. These are hands down, in my opinion, the best chocolate donut I have ever had in my life. I am in my 40s and this tasted like a chocolate donut I used to get as a kid. I cannot remember who made them. I think it was Heineman. We used to get them at Dominick's grocery store, which is now closed. If you were on a diet, I do not think you could eat just one of these donuts. They are that good. I truly could say I love these donuts and I cannot wait to go back to get more. Trust me when I say the hype is real. These are the best chocolate donuts in Illinois. On my next visit I'm going to try their other pastries and coffee cakes. I give Alegretti's a rare rating of 9 out of 10.

Allegrettis is the best!! They did such a phenomenal job with our wedding cake and desserts, our guests loved everything and raved about it all night!! The giant cannoli's were a huge hit and a great touch that everyone enjoyed. We have been going to Allegrettis for years for their desserts, chocolate donuts & pizzas. Very special for them to do our wedding cake and we highly recommend them to everyone!!

When I googled "Chocolate Cake Donuts in Chicago", this wonderful bakery popped up. So before I committed to a dozen, I was to test drive the CCD's. I also tried their Glazed Cake Donut and their Cinnamon Roll. What a wonderful CCD! Now it's not as good as Dinkel's but pretty damn close! The staff were super friendly and helpful as I wanted to try a few of their other donuts. I really enjoyed the Cinnamon Roll as I'm not a CR type guy but it was fresh and tasty. The Glazed Cake Donut was ok and not my fav. Next time, I'll try the other donuts as you can see the wide variety. There is a lot with plenty of parking and this location is a few blocks west of Harlem Avenue. Well done and congrats on 65 years in business!!

Allegretti s is addictive. Once you start going and have their signature donuts and cakes pastries and zeppole when in season you WILL RETURN!!!!

Was at Park Ridge Farmers Market and bought their Lemon poppy seed bread. It was delicious! They ran out of Blueberry so looking forward to going earliir or to their bake shop to get some soon!!

Get the choc donuts, the best! They are to die for. I don't even like donuts but I love these you will not be disappointed!!

Good quality baked goods. Known as one of the best places for chocolate frosted donuts. Biggest selling point is their being open on Sundays.

OMG, where have they been all my life? Driven past it many times but never stopped in until some folks on FB told me it's a nice place to get sliced bakery bread when my erstwhile favorite bakery was on vacation. They were right: excellent bread, but sooo much more! The cinnamon doughnuts are on another level, as are the coffee cakes etc, etc. Prices are right, too! The place is kinda small, so it can get crowded especially on weekends.

My friend told me about their Chocolate Fudge Cake Donuts so I decide to stop by before going to The Blossom Cafe and pick up a few. They were very good the next morning.

Came here on Saturday afternoon. This was our first time here, so we asked alot of questions. I guess you're not allowed to do that because we were hurried. Not the nicest young lady helping us. The young lady was basically dismissive and rude. We observed the other workers, and they were very friendly. We would have bought more items, but we didn't feel welcomed. Overall, good desserts, but this young lady should work on her people skills.

One of the best bakeries in Chicago. Everything is excellent ! Just had a bundt shaped pound cake, covered in chocolate. It was fantastic.. I always stop in and get a chocolate cake donut and a genovese, always delicious!

The folks at Allegretti's are wonderful! I recently ordered a cake for my wife's 40th birthday. I wanted something special and they certainly delivered. I spoke with their decorator and showed pictures of what I had in mind. She was very nice and I felt very comfortable leaving the creativity up to her. Not only did the cake turn out beautiful, it also tasted soooooo good!!! I could not have been happier. Also their Chocolate Cake Donuts are the best thing ever!

We ordered the large mini pastry tray, which came with 40 pastries for $59.99. All of the pastries on the tray were really good. I was pleasantly surprised since you don't typically get that with these assorted trays. We will definitely order it again for the next event.

Love your chocolate donuts, so decided to buy our paczki's there. I was disappointed as you used strawberry jam instead of fresh berries and when they packed them, they had them on their side instead of laying flat in the box, all the filling came out and was stuck to the bottom of the box. I'll stick with your birthday cakes and chocolate donuts, but give my paczki business to another bakery.

This is our best local bakery. The weekend lines should not scare you away. They move fast and the donuts are always super soft and delicious. I have not ordered a cake yet but the ones I've seen go out look amazing. There's a reason all the locals know that this is the spot to go to for a sweet treat. Pro tip: call in your order to have it ready to go. Respectfully, you should still wait in line, but you'll be in and out quickly!

Ordered a birthday cake for my husband - chocolate, chocolate custard, strawberries and whipped cream. Everyone at the party loved it! Price was reasonable and no issues ordering it or picking it up.

Anyone that knows about good sweet treats knows Allegrettis is the place to go! Their cakes awesome and donuts are so yummy- never disappointed

My favorite donuts! The chocolate cake donut is so good. No fancy donuts and exotic flavors just classic donuts that are delicious.

I pre-ordered a cake and was given a pickup time. I stood in line over an hour. There were only 3 girls working the counter. Never again!!!

The doughnuts are stellar. The cookies are hard now as opposed to soft. The icing is hard and they claim they are attempting more crisp designs because people complained that their cookies' design are "sloppy." So their new icing is supposed to help them make the design more precise at the cost of having bricks for cookies! Don't buy their cookies unless you only care about the design and you like harder cookies as opposed to soft.

Allegretti's Bakery provided the Sweet Table for a Funeral Luncheon. What an unbelievable experience to end the afternoon. I still have family talking about it weeks after the function. I have a company breakfast to sponsor later next month and I definitely will have Allegretti's Bakery provide this! Old Family Bakery had and will always be the BEST!

Allegretti's did my dessert table for my bridal shower and everything was so yummy. Everyone enjoyed the cupcakes and the cookies were delicious.

Always loved their famous chocolate donuts. Today I got the apple cider donuts that are so light and tasty. Cannoli are wonderful and filled just when you order. Customer service is fantastic - I was buying cookies to leave as a gift on a porch when it was raining and they packaged it beautifully. Been going here for decades and I am always happy with whatever I get.

If you want great donuts, this is the spot! I haven't found a chocolate cake donut or a chocolate long John as good as theirs anywhere! Their prices are pretty reasonable as well.

This food is great and that is why I go there. There are a few bad eggs that should probably find another job. They always make the experience so unpleasant. I just remind myself why Im there and move on.

Two stars for the delicious pastries, especially cookies. However, the three missing stars are for the low-grade customer service and for the exorbitant price increases (at least by $5/per pound of cookies, totaling at least $18/pound of cookies now!). If any business thinks they can get away with increasing prices with low quality customer service, they will be encouraging consumers to reconsider. After a few negative experiences and bringing it to management's attention without any efforts to remediate, my mother and I have decided to take our business elsewhere. This was especially after witnessing how they treated another kind customer who was excited to eat their pound cake but was told by a rude woman who worked in the back that the pound cake will not be ready until 11 and there was nothing we could do. Nothing was offered to compensate this customer for their time and/or patience. The cookies were delicious and we loved to enjoy them at least two Sundays a month but they're not worth the bad attitude and poor customer service. I bid there farewell, Allegretti's Bakery. You've been good to us and for that, we thank you. P.S, There are two bakeries not far and one of them is on Cumberland Ave. Please do not forget, there is always competition and in America, we all have choices. Hard stop.

Saturday November 19, 2022 Stopped with my Sicilian Husband and Daughter home from college to purchase cookies and italian bread. No bread available at 10:00 am!! Purchased 1 LB butter cookies. Absolutely the worst cookies I have ever had from a bakery!!! Tasteless, stale, horrible!! We actually had to throw some out. The bakery is an old, terrible space. Not comfortable to shop. We won't be back!

The cake donuts with chocolate frosting really do live up to the hype!!! I am a donut junkie and these are the best donuts I have ever had, EVER!!! (Including Stan's) I am on an eating clean kick meaning no sugar and I will have these donuts for my birthday instead of some stupid cake

The best bakery in the area for authentic Italian pastries. The Zeppoles are unbelievable and the cannolis to die for. Simply the best and forget the rest. Staff is great as well!

Beautiful and delicious cakes which is why they are getting 2 stars. Customer service is horrible!!!! I will start off by saying that my family and I have been customers of Allegretti's for over 10 years now. After the customers service from this past weekend and today I'm sad to no longer be one of their customers. We ordered a two tier beetle juice themed cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday. Everything was done via email. Initially in the email I requested one yellow tier with strawberry filling and the chocolate tier with strawberry filling. She replied asking if I wanted custard or whipped cream and I said whipped cream. After that When I asked Bailey if a deposit was needed I never heard from them again (which shame on me for not following up). Per the emails no time was established for pick up. I called on Saturday morning and they couldn't fond my cake then found it and said it had been ready since 9am. I said my sister will pick up around 4. They called me around 1 if we were still coming I said yes again sister will be there around 4. We get the cake came out beautiful but went to cut it and it was missing the strawberry filling. I take a picture and call and Denna was rude saying that the picture could have been from anywhere that there was nothing she could do unless I brought the cake back which I had mentioned was 2 tier. I said I had to feed it to my guest there was none left. So I was upset and said I was going to leave a review and hung up. She calls me back stating that she was going to go above and beyond and give me more back for the cake if I would have brought ot back but since I couldn't with the email of the picture she will credit me the difference. Today Bailey calls me stating that I wasn't clear about wanting strawberry filling. I said yes look at the email it states that I wanted it she then asked if custards or whip cream and that was that. She put me on hold with out saying anything so i thought she hung up and I called back and said she never hung up that she put me on hold. Then proceeded to say Deena said there was no price difference in the cakes with filling which is a lie because when you go into their bakery on the left side of the counter shows price differences for adding fruit fillings. Sad they lost a life long customer over taking accountability for their mistake and not making it right. Do not buy if you want poor customer service

I had a taste for Allegretti's .... I ordered 2 of the rice puddings one with raisins one plain .... bought them on a Saturday, by Wednesday they were rancid ... I called to complain, and the girl checked, and said they are only good for 4 days ... did not offer anything to make me feel better ... it would be nice to have known that and have a use by date put on the container ... that was a chunk of money thrown down the tubes ...

Very sad that I've have problems with pizza breads the last 3 times I've ordered. 1st time they put order for the wrong day, 2nd time they said they "ran short" even though I made an order ahead. FINALLY today... ordered two pizza breads for pickup. I get home- The entire thing is burnt. We tried both of them took it back and the owner said "ITS NOT BURNT." Rude. Unacceptable coming from an owner to tell a customer after they brought it back and tried both of them. I don't enjoy burnt cold pizza. Sorry. Picture attached.
