Allen Cafe

I love good cooked and cafe style food. After practice my son was craving something full of flavor and fresh. We were not disappointed. We tried the chicken and dumplings, ended up getting 2. And he had the steak egg plate. We enjoyed it all. The servers were very friendly and attentive to our drinks and needs. Will definitely come back to try more. And bring the rest of the family. Thank you everyone at Allen Cafe.

Good old fashioned American cafe with the staples. Specials board with some old school offerings. Good price for literally everything in the menu. Got a very good chuckle from me, the kitchen was a mish mash of English, Spanish and Eastern European languages spoken throughout. Breakfast was good but I think they need to clean the black top. My hash browns tasted burnt and greasy even tho they had a great cook on them.

Authentic local diner for breakfast. I visited here for the first time, and I was so happy with their professional service and good food quality. I will be back soon and highly recommend it!

Busy location; good food & efficient waitress. Toddler enjoyed his meal and ate most of it. Pancake covered the entire plate. I had the French toast combo with berries didn’t get a photo; husband enjoyed the chicken fried steak combo also no photo; chicken fried was a full skirt steak & gravy was good. There was no kid menus provided.

We were excited for Allen Cafe, but it ended up being an average experience. Our waitress was phenomenal, but none of the food tasted fresh to me and my wife. My wife’s sausage was pretty dry, and the sauce with my omelette tasted like it came from a jar. There was also a fight going on in the kitchen while we ate, so it’s possible we caught them on a bad day. We will try it again eventually, but with so many great options in the area, it will be a while until we return.

I normally come to Alan Café to relax and have a good meal. I particularly like to go there after having a fresh haircut. Barber is down the street. This was a very underwhelming experience. I was really looking forward to hot soup and a sandwich. I chose the fresh homemade chili and what I was told was freshly made. Chicken salad. Coffee was good. The chicken salad looked and tasted thrown together with pieces of lettuce , that were seriously off color and taste. The chicken salad had very little flavor, although it was clear that it was fresh. There wasn’t a lot of chili and it was lukewarm at best. Definitely not hot. I usually love this place. I ordered the hot apple pie which I was told is homemade. It is possible that it was homemade, but it wasn’t particularly memorable. Like the sandwich which looked thrown together, the pie also did not look like it was served as much as it was thrown on a plate. The flavor was OK but certainly not good. The chili was flavorful.

Allen Cafe was well worth the wait! We went on Saturday and waited for about 15 minutes. Waitress was really nice to share recommendations. Food arrived fresh and warm. If you are in the area, we recommend you swing through and give it a try! It will not disappoint.

Ever heard of the Allen Cafe ?!! 😋🍴 I have lived in McKinney since 1994 and never heard of the Allen Cafe! I was craving some home-cooked breakfast and wanted to try someplace different, outside of McKinney. I found this place on Google. We arrived, and it gave me Bill Smith Cafe vibes, which I loved! I love small, mom and pop restaurants! Everything was absolutely delicious, the service was quick and great, and prices were very affordable. Make sure and give them a try! I used to frequent this place a lot because you get a lot of food for the price but today, we ordered to-go and noticed there was little pieces of hair in the box. DISGUSTING! My 6 year old was so grossed out and almost ate it. I'm so upset and disgusted. Waste of money, time and energy. Will no longer recommend. If you like hair in your food, feel free to visit. Note: Photos are not the same box of pancakes. One is a Mickey kids pancake and the other is the original. Two separate boxes.

I may never go anywhere else for Breakfast! A cool old school cafe, with great service and supper friendly staff. Quick service my eggs Benedict tasted great the eggs were slightly over cooked but still delicious. The chopped hollandaise sauce was on point. I did not like the corn beef hash but other than that I am coming back.

This a great place to eat and enjoy good southern food at its finest. They open up early and close mid-afternoon. I remember coming here when it was a Dairy Queen in the '80's. The service is always top notch! I have yet to have a bad meal here. The prices are quite reasonable. I love their home fries. Seasoned just right. They are pretty busy on the weekend. Good luck beating the regulars and church crowd. The wait on Sunday I attribute to the Baptist Church located next door. I like that they always keep your drinks filled! Whether it's water, coffee, or tea. Drop on by and give this old-fashioned eatery a whirl. It will be well worth the wait and the drop by. Ignore those that leave negative feedback. You want salt pick up the salt shaker and add more salt, just leave mine alone it's perfect! Food already has too much salt added. March 2025

My family and I visit this restaurant regularly for years mainly for Breakfast and love it. I decided to meet a friend for Lunch. Noticed two men came in with small dogs and sat down at a booth with the Dogs. We ask the waitress and the person at the front what their stance was on Dogs. The only thing they said is we have a sign on the window that they don't allow dogs and they were service dogs. I am sorry, I DO NOT want dogs in a restaurant where food is served. If you have to have a Service Dog, order your food for take out. We will definitely think twice about coming back for Breakfast.

First time to Allen Cafe, first impression, quick seating, friendly greeting! I'm going to give them an extra star for the very friendly service and the bisquits and gravy, both excellent. They are not experts at breakfast burritos, and the salsa was lacking, too tomatoey with no taste of onion or cilantro, no spice. Orange juice was watered down, could be a one time thing. I don't want to judge them for the one dish, I'll come back to try something else next time. Great service!

This is one of our most frequented breakfast spots. It might not be best at much of anything, but the service and consistency bring us back. If you want unpretentious breakfast food, this could be your place, but it's nothing I'd drive out of the way for. The service really is what brings us back. We have a regular waitress, we even have a backup waitress when our regular is out. Our toddler asks for Mirsada by name when we decide to go. Pancakes are fluffy, French toast is great (and they even offer two different types for those of us who don't like cinnamon), my husband likes the traditional sort of biscuits and gravy, and everything else is standard breakfast fare. The place is a bit old, the tables can be sticky sometimes, but generally it's pretty well maintained, it's just an older place that isn't trying to be anything but it what it is. Your food won't be Instagram perfect but it will hit the spot and the prices are more than reasonable. Food: 3.5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 2/5 Price: 5/5

Solid little cafe with great lunch and breakfast options. I had the fried catfish served with fries and fried okra. Started the meal with a bowl of chili and ended it with a slice of coconut cream pie. Washed it all down with a fresh brewed ice tea. This cafe is very consistent with their quality and the staff is quick to make sure the meal is enjoyable.

We finally checked out this lil cafe, after living here for 5 years! Missy is amazing! She was our hostess, our waitress, our server and our refill drinks person I ordered my standard breakfast of a veggie Skillet add ham w a biscuit and my spouse ordered standard breakfast of Chicken Fried Steak w eggs and an extra side of gravy w grits and a pancake on the side. The biscuits are soft and fluffy The chicken fried steak wasn't as tender as we like, but it was good nonetheless, grits and a homemade pancake that was nice and fluffy and hot. My skillet was ok, I think it had half an onion in it and they weren't sautéed enough, they were still crunchy. I also asked to add tomatoes and I think I got 5 tomato pieces Additionally, the hash browns were over cooked and some chunky sections were actually burnt, so I had to add extra ketchup this time. The part I did get to eat was tasty. However, you can't beat great service. I have to give 4 stars just because of Missy, she really is an awesome bonus employee! Because of her, we will give the cafe another shot at a better meal. Kinda bummed I forgot to take pics before we ate and before my half eaten plate was picked up. I didn't remember until after we were checking out, whoops All in all, you should probably check them out for breakfast or lunch, they close at 3.

We go here at least once a week. Food is excellent, staff is nice, service is quick, and prices are fair.

Lived in Allen my whole life and never knew this place existed. I LOVED THE FOOD THE SERVICE AND MT HUSBAND LOVED THE PRICE. Will definitely be returning with the kids.

Great food and a great place to get some breakfast/lunch/brunch! The prices were great, too. I had the breakfast skillet (I can't remember the name of the skillet), and it was very filling. It also came with 2 of the French toast cinnamon swirls, which were great. The service was great--fast, and no issues happened. The food was served hot and fast. Will be returning.

Is the food healthy? Probably not. But does it taste good and come out fast even on a busy Saturday morning? It sure does. Service is always great. The interior isn't fancy, but it gets the job done. Excellent home-town fare. I have never had a bad meal here. They serve up yummy, uncomplicated food that warms the tummy and the soul. Service has always been great for me. It is a regular spot for me and my friends.

This morning was our first time at Allen Café. Food was delicious! Prices were great! Staff was very friendly and accommodating! We will be back! And to top it off, as we were getting ready to leave, our waitress put a receipt in the middle of the table and said, "you guys are good to go, have a wonderful day!" ???? There was a lady sitting behind us that paid our tab! She wrote on the receipt "Investing in the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus." WOW, WE WERE SPEECHLESS!!!! So, if this precious lady is reading this, Thank you so much! What a blessing! May the Lord bless you as well! WE WILL DEFINITELY PAY IF FORWARD!!!

This has turned into our go-to favorite breakfast or brunch spot. If you get there early enough such as 10 or 10:30 AM there shouldn't be too long of a wait, otherwise you take your chances. There's a church next-door and everyone around also loves this place. It is nothing fancy, but the food is always good. They have Specials on the whiteboard. The ambience is homey. The waitresses are friendly enough And you get filled with delicious food to start your day. What more could you ask for?

A local hole-in-the-wall breakfast/lunch spot that we like to go to for a quick, filling breakfast. Great pricing and the food is pretty good! You can tell they have been a local spot for many years! It is an older building and there hasn't been any renovations. But the food is well priced, fast service, and will bring you the feeling of a comfort food type of place! Every time we have been you see folks that have been regulars there, and the staff knows them well. You could easily fit right in and become a local too! The breakfast burrito and French toast are rather tasty and we highly recommend!

They are exactly what they advertise. Hearty food, reasonable prices, and swift service. My meal was presented to me in less than 10 minutes. The waitress was very attentive and everyone in the cafe seemed to be having a good time. Minor modifications to menu items are received with an "of course"'. I particularly liked their pancakes with a strong vanilla flavor, and everything else was tasty. My only criticism was their syrup container. It needed to be cleaned. Otherwise a nice breakfast. I'll go back.

My kids are addicted to the gravy train omelette. Service is always top notch. Local diner feel with a mural of the old train station on the wall. My only complaint is how busy they are and wishing the parking lot was bigger.

Very friendly and prompt service! Lots of regulars. Yummy eggs, grits, and pancakes! Coffee is good and fresh too, i could drink a whole pot! Love this place. Not too crowded on weekdays. Can have an actual conversation without shouting. Thank you! Oh and they also own Italian villa, haven't been there but looking forward to trying it out.

I live in Plano, TX, and would like to have an early breakfast but I couldn't find one that opens early. Allen Cafe is the only nearest one that opens at 6 am. I went there with my wife and both loved this place. The service was excellent and the foods were delicious!! The waitress makes sure our coffee is never run empty. We will definitely come back here for an early breakfast for sure! Yes, I would recommend this place for breakfast!

Great Mom & Pop experience. Fast and great service. Delicious food offerings and homey atmosphere. Didn't linger long bc I always feel bad when I see people waiting. Would like to come when it so busy with a friend to relax and catch up.

Loved this place. If we lived in the area we would be regulars. We were seated immediately and the hostesses got our drinks within minutes of sitting down. The waitress was there quickly to take our orders. We got our food faster than most fast food places. I ordered French toast, scrambled eggs and sausage. It was all really good. The French toast may have been slightly undercooked but the flavor was great. My husband had the breakfast burritos and said they were amazing. The prices were good especially for the amount of food we got. The place was packed but there was plenty of parking. I'm still surprised at how fast the service was since there were so many people there.

Was killing time before an appointment and stumbled upon this place. Super quaint and welcoming. Great friendly service, as well as fast service with food! I ordered a little of everything to sample it all! The corn beef hash was great! The French toast was good and the gravy for the biscuits was the best I've had since moving to Texas. Everyone seems to regulars, could hear customers saying see you next week to the staff. I love that feel! If I lived in Allen I would be a regular for sure. Glad I found this place!

The decor is stuck in the '70's--and so are the prices! Excellent, attentive service, wonderful food, and as hometown an atmosphere as you could ever hope for. The entire menu is available all day--breakfast for supper & vice-versa. The portions are HUGE and satisfying. I can't even review the desserts because I'm so stuffed! Recommendation: their Ribeye breakfast! Delicious!

Love this local diner! Their pecan pancakes are large and delicious. Get them with bacon, sausage, and eggs. They have a kids menu like a Mickey Mouse pancake. And sausage

Hadn't been here in years and was at the bank nearby so decided to stop in. Ordered the chicken fried steak (CFS) with mashed potatoes, fried okra and a salad. Large fresh salad with a nice blue cheese dressing arrived quickly. As soon as the salad was finished my CFS arrived. It was a nice size portion and fork tender and sides very also tasty. Service was fast and friendly and there was no room for dessert so got a couple of slices of pie to go (coconut cream and lemon meringue). Excellent service from Mirsada and great food at a good price. Check em out!

So I just left a review for Mom's detailing the horrible service and I would be wrong to not highlight the totally opposite end of the spectrum service I received at Allen Cafe. My waitress (Rachael), the greet staff and table bussers were kind and very attentive. The food was excellent (and priced better than Mom's)... If in Allen, I recommend Allen Cafe a thousand times over!

I am visiting Allen from out of town so this is my first visit to Allen Cafe. The place is a small and personable, mom and pop, breakfast spot. The owner is always walking around helping out and socializing with the guests. They were pretty busy but we were greeted and sat fairly quickly and with a smile. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Our server is Alicia (She gets brownie points for her name cuz that's my sisters name and she just so happens to live here in Allen, TX). She was incredibly friendly and attentive. Now..... on to the food. I ordered a hash brown skillet. It was very good. I always order my hash browns extra crispy and these came out just like I like it. See the pic. Then for desert I ordered the Cinnamon French toast. It seems to be a favorite because the reviews agree. Since I am a black coffee drinker, the flavor of the coffee is important. It was very good. Not to weak and not to strong (though I really like strong coffee) and it didn't have an earthy taste. We love Allen Cafe. We love the family that owns this friendly diner with delicious, home cooked food! It's always a great experience here. Very loyal customers frequent this small but always welcoming cafe that's served Allen for decades. It's often our Sunday-after-church brunch destination!

Frist time going there was amazing! Staff was nice and very welcoming as well as the atmosphere. The food was hot and fresh and came out quickly. You could never go wrong with any omelette from Allen Cafe!
