"It’s hard to miss the tiny, electric blue Alex’s Fish Market building driving on Martin Luther King Blvd. in Exposition Park. They’re best known for their affordable dinner platters - get the fried catfish and fried shrimp plate - but you can also get fresh fish by the pound, like orange roughy, tilapia, sole, and trout. They’ll also cook anything you order at no charge." - Brett Keating

Google
Rolled up at about 3pm to grab a couple pounds of shrimp, only to find a sign on the door that said “back at 12:30” with a number to call. I called twice and a man, I’m presuming Allex, picked up the second time and said he would be there in about 15 minutes. I waited 30 minutes and he never showed. Three other people besides myself attempted to come in also. A waste of time and squandered business.

Google
Great shrimp!! I got the medium and made ceviche with it.. wow the best I’ve ever made and it was because the shrimp I bought. They don’t have a big selection but what they do have is so good and fresh!

Lisa Chenail

Google
He didn't have much of a selection when we went in. It was a bit disappointing. We got flounder and shrimp and both were fresh and delicious. He charges a fee for running a credit card so be sure to bring cash.

Google
I didn't get the Mahi Mahi that I wanted because I wasn't sure how to cook it right but it looked amazing. I did get 2 lbs of shrimp and my family and I enjoyed it

charles ross

Google
I got 2#s shrimp, 2 packs of crabcakes, and some scallops on one order, then on the other, i got 2 #s shrimp, 1 pack crabcakes and a jug of fresh oysters for my mother. She informed me that they were not good. said that they had an off or funny taste. I'm probably not going back there to spend my $250. That said. The guy that was helping has very helpful and nice.

Google
Loved talking to the employee who filled in for Mike. He was flexible and infnormative about the seafood. He exactly who some northerners like us wanted to buy our food from

John Merrill

Google
This is just a nice little place to stop if you’re looking for some good, fresh seafood (shrimp, fish filets, etc.; I HIGHLY recommend their fresh gulf shrimp!), as well as many other side dishes and accompanying ingredients (gumbo, etouffee, various spices, etc.). You should check them out if you’re in the Jamaica Beach area! 😋

Stopped by for my first visit. Found y’all on google and you guys are awesome. the fellas operating the place were awesome and quick. I will be back for sure. AND they carry crystals hot sauce. That’s all you need to know

Yelp
Great service and $$$ very reasonable. I always stop on my way back to Tennessee and they pack it in ice for me so it stays frozen on the trip home. Coudos guys great job

Yelp
Our family had a week stay in Galveston recently near Allex's. We saw some of the reviews, needed shrimp for dinner one night and decided to forgo the long drive back to Galveston and stay local. We weren't disappointed. The guys were polite and helped us with some very nice shrimp. Even cut us a small break due to the 'tonnage' we had to buy. :). Nothing fancy and don't be waiting at 10AM to open. Stay on island time and all is good.

Cindy H.

Yelp
Excellent quality of seafood. Very friendly and go above and beyond to accommodate. Cindy

Curtis H.

Yelp
I believe this place is closed. Two days I've stopped by to get seafood and they aren't open nor lights are on, despite the 'Open' sign on the door

Farrah A.

Yelp
This is our go-to seafood market when we're west of the Island and also don't have any fresh catch of our own. :/ Every time I've gone in there, the staff has been helpful in selecting the freshest cuts and fish. Bass, tuna, snapper, scallops, crab fingers - I've bought it all there. Every now and then they are low on inventory. I mean, the selection and inventory isn't like some seafood markets along the Kemah bridge, but when you're staying along Pirate's beach and looking to whip up a meal straight from the Gulf, Allex's is the only market we go to in the area (there is a market a few miles father west on the island but everything was frozen).

Dave C.

Yelp
Outstanding fresh Gulf Shrimp--sweet and succulent (and priced right). The staff is so friendly and ready to help make suggestions. When I'm in Galveston this is my go-to from now on.

David R.

Yelp
Arrived and greeted promptly. All the fish looked fresh, purchased several pounds of Redfish and two pounds of XL Shrimp, cooked it all that evening, outstanding results no doubt due to the freshness of the fish. Highly recommend.

Yelp
What a ripoff. I went in yesterday to get some red snapper. I told the guy working there that I wanted 4 pounds of filets off the whole fish. He picked out two that he thought would get us what we wanted, with he price of $80 for the two fish, he said that was a good deal (about $20/lb) for the filets normally they were $23/lb if already filleted. He took the two fish and filleted them one unsuccessfully, so he got another, told me I was getting a deal. In the end I received 2.1 lbs for $80 or $38/lb. I told him I thought that was too high and he said there wasn't anything he could do about it. I should've just walked out without them, but with my daughter and 3 grandchildren waiting in the car for over 30 minutes waiting on him to filet, them, I paid and left. That is the LAST time I will use Alex's! - An Unhappy Customer

Yelp
Allex's in general has great seafood readily available as you wander down the island. They can be hit or miss at 10am when they open, but as is the case with a lot of businesses on the island, you get used to this. Always pretty quick to stop in and grab whatever. I typically only buy shrimp, oysters and crabs, but the fish have always been fresh and tasty too.

Hillary S.

Yelp
We come here every summer while renting a condo in Pointe West. Fresh seafood and all the sauces and seasonings you need are available for purchase. Be sure to get the 4 pack of crabcakes. They're frozen but delicious when cooked! Daniel behind the counter is very helpful and friendly. Go earlier in the day for best selection!

Breck M.

Yelp
Very limited options so I left with nothing.. I went in this evening and all that was "fresh" was shrimp, swordfish, and salmon. Two days ago we ventured over to the strand and found Katies Seafood. It had 5 times the options while they were unloading more right off a boat. Katies wasn't cheap, but the flounder and snapper we purchased were very fresh and tasty!

Matt C.

Yelp
Flounder filets and scallops were fresh and tasty. Bought a 2lb bag of frozen shrimp and almost all of them were broken. Went to another market to buy better shrimp.

Richard J.

Yelp
Lots of fresh seafood from the gulf. All product is on ice within arms reach, so you have a good chance to check it out before buying. Fresh choices include shrimp, crawfish, gumbo, orange roughy, lobster and much more seafood. In addition, they have crawfish pie, crawfish fettuccine, green beans, broccoli rice, stuffed chicken and many other choices on their take-out menu. Service was fair at best. Gentleman working behind the counter wasn't very friendly.

Patsy B.

Yelp
Oysters, lump crab, shrimp and fantastic assortment of fish. All fresh. Also awesome assortment of frozen items.

Rachael B.

Yelp
Old and over priced. The smell is awful. Felt like I was walking in to a mafia front store. If it's vacuumed sealed you know it's not fresh... just in shock. 19.50 a pound for redfish, you gotta be kidding me. The selection is sincerely limited. I think they had 5 oysters on ice lol what are you supposed to do with 5 oysters? I'm guessing the good reviews are from family members y'all lol I'll have to research a new market so drop me a line if you know of something good...

Laura G.

Yelp
The customer and employee were not wearing masks. I asked the employee about this and I left empty-handed while the employee looked for a mask. My first time here.

Jai C.

Yelp
A small shop but well taken care of. It was clean and lacked the typical 'fishy' smell of some markets. The employees greeted me as I walked in - even while they were already helping other customers. The choices weren't that much though - they had red snapper, gulf shrimp and a couple of other seafood choices and all fresh. On the shelves were all kinds of seasonings, flavorings and other sorts of 'ings'. The hours were pretty good and parking was easy.

Victoria C.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood walking distance from Allex's. It is so nice to be able to stop in and know that the person behind the counter knows their stuff. I can't even speak to how their prices compare to other places because this is where I buy seafood. The place isn't very big, but I don't need big. It is a quality place and I am happy it is closest to our home. I look forward to a lot of delicious seafood being purchased at Allex's.

Michelle D.

Yelp
We got a batch of shrimp and scallops from this location and they were just horrible. The scallops stank to high heaven and tasted even worse - the shrimp tasted muddy and none too fresh either. We were really disappointed since we had heard such wonderful things about their main location. The redeeming factor was the staff - they took the scallops back no question, gave us a refund and apologized for the lack of quality. Overall, this would not be my first choice when seeking seafood next time I'm in town but I would probably give them another chance when the nasty fish taste has left my memory.

Kory K.

Yelp
We stopped at Allex's right at open and there was a great selection of seafood. All was very fresh and looked amazing. Locally owned by a very nice young man, very helpful. We will definitely go back when we are in Galveston next year.

Suzy C.

Yelp
Every time we come to Galveston we shop at Allex's Seafood Market West - shrimp, flounder and Snapper have been our choices to date and always fresh and excellent! Customer service is always great and very friendly Staff. Once even left my credit card, I returned after hours, left a note and first thing when they opened called me and I got my card back! Went way and beyond in exceeding customer expectations! Thank you!

Yelp
Was in Galveston over the weekend. Googled nearest fresh seafood market. Pulled up this, reviews were great. I have never spent time with any reviews, but this place was a joke. The older lady behind the counter was rushed and very aggressive, rude, non-responsive to questions. Find it amazing she was rushed due to the fact I was the only person there. I ordered fresh Snapper, asked for it filleted and boned. Was cooking for a large group, and when I pulled the fillets out of the ice they all had bones. The seafood was fresh, I am a chef I won't criticize this market for that. The help is more like a reason for me to open a fresh market right across the street, because it is a gold mine! I know I will put you out of business. Hire some people who CARE!!! Just saying..

Constance R.

Yelp
Drove here to pick up some crab claws - very, very disappointed. They were definitely NOT fresh... had to air out the house after trying to serve them. Very poor quality

Calvin G.

Yelp
Wow! This is the go to place for fresh seafood. The offerings are fresh, reasonably priced and the service is great. I wish I knew about this place sooner :-)

Adrian C.

Yelp
Best place to buy seafood on Galveston Island! Super friendly and everything was wonderful.

allison j.

Yelp
This place is small and family owned, and the best one in Galveston. They usually have lots to choose from, from flounder, snapper, trout, shrimp, lobster, crab and more. If you get there early, you'll probably have more to choose from. We shop here everytime we visit the island because it's the bomb.

Michelle U.

Yelp
Stopped here to get shrimp, scallops and crab claws. All were fresh and delicious! The staff was helpful on how to prepare. We will be back! Probably today!!

Gary L.

Yelp
Just moved into the neighborhood. Been here twice so far to pick up shrimp and fish . . . very very fresh. Houston is only 1 hour away but can't find seafood like this. Used to drive out to Katie's for fish, but this place is much closer to me and just as good. Prices are fair.

Rocky P.

Yelp
Great place to buy fresh seafood. They are always informative about the freshness and which seafood is local. No Blue Crab here by great prices on shrimp and fish. Expect them to be friendlly and help you out.

Lauren W.

Yelp
Consistent sizes, slightly pricey, very fresh, and lots of homemade foods to take home and cook! Some frozen fish, and they sell salt water life stickers!

Tamara K.

Yelp
Back in Galveston and this was our first stop for seafood. We got the fresh Shrimp and cooked them up with a little Olive Oil. Price was good, location is close to our resort on the West side. We will go back!

Mary T.

Yelp
We've been buying shrimp here for years, every time we're in Galveston, and have always been very, very pleased. This weekend we bought the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, (in addition to shrimp and crabmeat). OMG!! We cooked it tonight with pasta in pesto sauce and a salad - the best meal we've had in a long time. It was absolutely wonderful!! We are loyal customers of Alex and will continue to be. He does everything right!

Ellen G.

Yelp
You will not find better shrimp anywhere. And this place is a must for your seafood if you are on the west end. Allex will fix you up!

Lynn E.

Yelp
Haven't been there in a while but will be in a few weeks...on vacation. ..always fresh and always fabulous selection of seafood and ready to cook delicacies. ..seasonings and all!!! John's shop has been number 1 in my book for many years!!! I highly recommend his establishment!
