Like most SF restaurants, All-Star Donuts has just added all of the extra fees and service charges that all small businesses, and restaurants, pay onto their customers. Per usual, the quality of service hasn't risen to match. I stopped in here in a pinch, and despite how turned off I was by the depressive atmosphere, and unfriendly employees, when I walked in. First, they let you know that in their minds everyone's a criminal, by having a plexiglass locked box with a hole cut out in the top, and a sign that says "Tips" right next to the cashier, who also takes the orders. I had to wait several minutes for her to finish up with other customers, before she could take mine. At no time did she make any effort to acknowledge my presence. When, she did take my order, she didn't offer any small talk, or make any conversation that made me feel as though she cared if I was there or not. My order, a bacon cheeseburger, fries, can of pop, $14! None of the food was organic, served by candlelight, or came with a charming lunch buddy. But, hunger called. They had no diet soda offerings. None. They are kept in a reach-in next to the counter. Important fact for later. I cannot stand onions. I ordered my burger without them. When, the burger arrived at my table, it had shredded lettuce. I knew, right then, there were going to be onion mixed in with that lettuce. I told the person that brought the burger about the soda, because she was acting as a server in my mind. She let me know that I could get it myself! Really? I never tip until after I've finished eating. I got to the counter, and had the tip in my hand, because I wanted the cashier to see it, when I spoke with her. She came over, and I told her about the onion on the burger. I mentioned that for the price of my meal, the food should have been perfect. In the old days, the person would have apologized, and asked me to give them another try. This is a place that makes money despite itself. She said nothing. In fact, she acted annoyed that I complained about their mistake, and walked away while I was talking! I'm not sure, how so many people are giving this place good reviews, unless everything went perfectly with their orders. Also, people who dine out should remember, these people are now making $15/hr. plus tips!
