This restaurant is amazing and if you’re in the area craving delicious Mexican food you have to check it out. I’d put this in the top 3 Mexican restaurants I’ve been to, to include some other well known establishments in Philadelphia. No knock on them but this place will be up there with them once word gets around.
It is a smaller restaurant with 4 tables that seat parties of 4 and 2 tables that seat parties of 2 but when I came by at 4:30pm on a Friday it was empty.
I ordered the tacos al pastor and a hurache without meat. It came with a red and a green salsa on the side and also pickled habanero mixed with onions, orange juice, and oregano. It is spicy but is absolutely delicious and went great on everything.
I judge a place a lot on their tortilla/masa creations and this place nailed it. The tortillas were fresh and are the perfect texture. The meat for the tacos was well seasoned and not too fatty, but still had the richness you’re looking for in carne al pastor. The pineapple was a nice touch. The hurache was topped with beans, cream, onions, and nopales. Everything went well together and the masa for the hurache was perfect, crunchy on the outside but tender on the inside.
I liked the food so much I decided to get flan for dessert. It came with a blackberry jam and whipped cream on the side. It was the consistency I personally like, dense and creamy. The fruit was a nice contrast to the richness of the dessert.
In addition to the food, the staff was friendly, welcoming, and answered any questions I have. Prices were more than fair for the portions.
Unfortunately I live on the west coast but if I’m ever back in Philadelphia this would be my top spot to revisit.
If you’re in the area you have to give it a try if you like Mexican food. Highly recommended!
