"Marco's Crazy Mango Salad
This dish at Alma Del Mar in Bella Vista hits the sweet spot between a fruit salad and a green one. And since the place opens at 8am, you can eat it for breakfast with your friends or even for dinner when the kitchen throws lump crab into the mix. We're talking about what's ostensibly a kaleidoscope in a bowl, with bright orange grilled mango slices, mixed greens, avocado slices, red bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes. The citrusy mango dressing makes this salad one of the best ways to eat fruit in Philadelphia, third only to raw and water ice." - candis mclean, alison kessler
"When Queer Eye brought its makeover series to Philly years ago, we got the gift of Alma Del Mar—full of colorful patio furniture and delicious Mexican food. This South Philly spot has a seafood-heavy brunch menu that’s solid across the board. You’ll be satisfied with the shrimp, whiting, scallops, and grits, or the salmon burger, but you should really go for the lobster benedict. It’s covered in a tangy Old Bay hollandaise that's as bright as the yellow seats on their patio. Sit under a few massive umbrellas with a taco or two and then stroll around the Italian Market." - candis mclean, alison kessler
Everything is delicious here and I don’t understand why this doesn’t have a line out the door.
Barbacoa and mole so seasoned that you are left stunned.
Bright and spicy salsas
Despite being rich in flavor managed to be not too oily or greasy.
As good if not better than the highly praissd casa Mexico/south Philly barbacoa.
Please come here so they continue to be in business.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Philly. Everything was fresh and made to order. The barbacoa tacos and consome were incredible. We’ve been to restaurants that specialize in barbacoa but it had nothing on the ones from Alma de Mexico. The cafe de olla was perfect as well. Definitely worth the 1 hour drive!

I love it here! Their food is authentic and tasty plus the service was great. Some of the best Mexican food I’ve had! I got the wet burrito and guacamole! Plus not as far from center city as other highly regarded south Philly Mexican places. Totally worth the trip!!!

Small place on Society Hill. Food was amazing and very authentic, with plenty of flavor but not too spicy. Ask for the "secret" menu items. The couple in charge were very attentive. Definitely Top 5 mexican places in Philly.

Yelp
This is the real deal. The flavors are spot on. The mole was right up there with the best in the city. It's a small casual family run place that fits perfectly in the neighborhood. Service is friendly and accommodating. I'll be back for the weekend barbacoa and tamales.
