Where to Get Breakfast in the Twin Cities

"Alma Provisions, a tiny cafe by the Alma team, is southwest Minneapolis’s newest buzzing morning spot. The menu is a slightly abbreviated version of the original Cafe Alma’s: think coffee, tea, pastries, oatmeal, egg strata, egg sandwiches, and more. (Keep an eye out for bakery items like lemon currant scones and fresh cinnamon rolls drizzled with icing.) Alma Provisions’ cafe space is standing-room-only, but there’s a takeout window, and apothecary items stocked inside." - Justine Jones, Stacy Brooks

Google
Lovely spot for coffee, pastries and sandwiches. I had never been here and my friend brought me- I can't believe I never knew about it before!!!! Cute sitting area. I got the bacon egg sandwich and it was SO good. Coffee was delicious as well. Highly recommend!

Google
They have an interesting setup with Brasa next door. More clear signs for the system would be great because we weren’t sure if the seating was combined or how it worked. I tried the Up South egg sandwich, which was really good. I don’t normally like pimento cheese, but the flavors were amazing together. The lavender latte sadly didn’t have any flavor and I wouldn’t get coffee there again. The annoyed vibes from the staff that day were a little off putting and they forgot half our order for the group.

Google
Alma is the best little neighborhood coffee shop/cafe/goodies trove. The pastries are *chefs kiss, everything is honestly great. Keep in mind that the griddle and the coffee bar are small spaces, and when it’s busy you might have to wait a little bit for your order. Give them time to cook up the masterpiece. It ain’t starbys! The barista can only pull 4 shots at a time—that’s one large drink. The staff is super friendly with a lot of personality. It’s the perfect place to pull up, hang out, have a snack and sip some caffeine. Highly recommend!

Google
Alma Provisions is such a great addition to this neighborhood. I love this spot for coffee after dropping my kids off at school. Super friendly staff, curated gifts, delicious vegan teacake. Bring your laptop or find a friend.

Google
I've had coffee here like 10 times and only once did it compare to my favorite coffee. generally flavorless (I think you have to add your own sugar?), no matter what I try, they all taste the same. underfilled 16oz foamy flavorless coffee. not very welcoming. always like a kid and 2 dogs in the way

Google
Generally good but really bad today. Latte was legitimately all foam. Also came back here again recently and the iced latte was off, not great. Downgrading to 2* Hopefully they will work with staff to keep quality bar and training level high

Google
Everything was delicious. Blood orange lemonade, iced lavender Americano, breakfast sandwiches. Savory scone was moist, tender and flavorful. Seasonal Danish (bourbon pear date) was well filled with beautifully laminated pastry. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Small stop cafe to try some pastries and coffee Disappointed with the service- they weren't really paying attention to anyone there Forgot my mocha and the drip coffee tasted bad as they only had light roast available The danishes were just average- also expensive for the quality Breakfast sandwiches were pretty good though so saving grace

Yelp
Great food coupled with some of the worst service out of any Minneapolis restaurant. To add to it, they add a 20% mandatory tip. Don't go during peak hours unless you want to wait a half hour to get your drink.

Yelp
Adorable little cafe and bakery just east of Lake Harriet. With a small ordering space, a few tables that they share with Brasa next door, and an assortment of pantry and home good items, Alma Provisions is the perfect place to grab coffee and a treat. I read about their egg sandwich with pimento cheese and went to check it out the next weekend. Called the Up South, this delightful breakfast sandwich consists of fluffy, scrambled eggs, creamy, cheddar-y pimento cheese, and sautéed sweet peppers and onions that get smushed between a fresh buttermilk biscuit. Really tasty! They have other food items refrigerated by the counter, but I would suggest ordering something that is made fresh. Cute stop in Southwest Mpls!

Yelp
Ok - It feels wild to be doing a third review update, but the Mpls St. Paul Magazine released their top sandwiches, which included Alma Provision's Breakfast Sandwich. I went and got one and WOW. I'm fighting the urge to go get another a couple of days later and I think I'm going to lose that battle. PSA: They recommend "the breakfast sandwich," but AP actually has multiple types. I'm pretty sure by the description provided they meant the Up South breakfast sandwich. The biscuit still has the baking soda/powdery flavor a little bit but the pimento cheese and sweet peppers tasted so good that I didn't mind much. I'd give this sandwich, paired with their dirty chai, five stars, but the cafe as a whole is still probably 4-4.5 stars.

Yelp
Umm finally. An espresso that's truly amazing. It's rare to find. Thank you. GF options for baked goods are also delicious, delicate, and not over-sweet or thick. Thank you!!!!

Yelp
Great new addition to the neighborhood! Coffee, pastries, and homemade bath products that originated from Hotel Alma. Beautiful space, delicious coffee, and friendly staff. Perfect for a pre or post walk around the lake coffee and snack. It looks like they also have some really unique breakfast and deli sandwiches. Can't wait to try everything on their menu!

Yelp
Oh my gosh what a cute little place! Stopped by on my walk and got a latte and scone. The scone was probably one of the best scones I've ever had. It was so moist and flavorful, which typically isn't the case with scones... The service was also really fast and kind. The inside is really small but they do let you go sit in Brasa next door, so that's a nice addition. Overall a super cute spot!!

Yelp
I've been to Alma provisions a handful of times. I knew it was a special place as soon as I walked in. I've intentionally gone to find little gifts for friends and each time left with a little bags of goodies. Whether you're looking for candles, chocolate or seasonings you will not be disappointed. To make it even better there have been new items each time. Thank you for the variety, the service and a great cup of coffee.

Yelp
I desperately wanted to love Alma Provisions and give it five stars. I love all things Alex Roberts but I'm sorry to say that Alma Provisions has been a miss for me. Not opening until 8 is a bummer for a coffee shop. I live in the neighborhood and when they started building, I was so excited! It looked like it would be a coffee window you walked up to, which is so great if you're out walking a dog! Unfortunately, it's not a window you walk up to. It's the window you have to stand outside of, waiting for your coffee or food you ordered INSIDE. There is not any seating indoors. In the fall, waiting outside for a breakfast sandwich was ok. In the winter, to say that it sucks to stand there is an understatement. I will say, the coffee and breakfast sandwiches and pastries are great. The lunch food I would probably not get again, which is too bad because there aren't a lot of weekday lunch spots in the immediate neighborhood. I have only ordered a sandwich here one time and you get it out of a deli case. I was SO disappointed when I got home with my turkey and cheddar to find that the entire bottom of the sandwich was completely soggy from the herb vinaigrette that's on it. Herb vinaigrette would be a terrific addition to a sandwich that was just made, but in a sandwich that's been sitting in a plastic box in a deli case all day, it creates a soggy (but still pretty delicious) mess.

Yelp
I expected a bit more from this place with the name Alma so I did go in with high expectations. I ordered the turkey sandwich (because they were out of the beet one). I noticed that there were some sandwiches wrapped up in the refrigerated case but I'm not at a gas station I'm at a high end cafe and expected that they would be made fresh. After waiting a bit we were notified that we can take a sandwich from the case. This was disappointing but I was still open minded. Unwrapping the wrapper revealed a soggy, cold sandwich, yuck...and for $13+tax and tip. The sandwich tasted worse than something I would whip up quick at home. The cheese was shredded cheddar - the size and consistency of something on a salad bar - just weird - like a school lunch. I am just so surprised and can't believe this is acceptable to people. We did end up going to Clancy's after to get a real sandwich and boy they do not disappoint!
