"This halal restaurant in Metairie is one of the best in town, a family-run business with deep ties to the community. Though easy to overlook in its West Esplanade strip mall, it’s a powerhouse, offering flavorful, rich meats alongside puffy, bubbly pita; colorful sides; and excellent sweets." - Clair Lorell, Beth D'Addono

Google
It’s rare to find authentic Yemeni food, but this restaurant truly delivered! I tried the mandi, fish, and haneeth — everything was incredibly flavorful, tender, and cooked just right. The spices took me right back home. The atmosphere was beautiful and welcoming, and the server was very kind. I’m so happy I found this place and will definitely recommend it to my family and friends.

The food is good. I definitely recommend the pompano. I had never had it prepared like this before, but grilling it over wood fire and seasoned the way they do it makes it worth going back for. Also, the hummus is kind of remarkable with the warm pita they serve with it. The interior and layout is definitely due for an update.

We ordered beef mandi and falafel. Meat was super tender and delicious. Really liked the side salad. Didn't like the falafel sauce tho. Highly recommended.

Google
Delicious. We were visiting the new orleans area for work and came across this halal restaurant. We tried variety of items and everything was delicious. Pompano fish and beef mandi were very good, I highly recommend both. The complimentary bread and hummus were delicious as well. This place is a must try.

Lovely gem in Metairie. It's small, quaint and has a family vibe. The food is really good and flavorful. Everything is cooked fresh to order. So there is a little bit of a wait, but its worth it. I really enjoy their lentil soup and the Lebanese Tea. The customer service is also great and very accommodating.

I am giving fives stars, but I only enjoyed the hummus that was served with Turkey bread that was to die for. I LOVE bread and the a turkey bread was some of the best bread I’ve had, especially with hummus. I think I was eating more bread than hummus, since I finished the bread and there was half of the hummus remaining. That just meant I had to order some more. The hummus was delicious and had a Smokey flavor. The inside was nice, but the authentic dining room is the center of attention. Our server Ethan was so sweet and accommodating, taking really good care of our needs. I will return for the bread alone! I would also like to try some of their dishes, since I had eaten before I got there. Located in Metairie on Transcontinental and maybe West Esplanade, this place is a great place to visit for Mediterranean food. There wasn’t anyone in there while we were eating, but a couple of families were coming when we were leaving.

Yelp
Went there the other day for lunch and they seemed to be short staffed. The server was very non existent and kept forgetting things but she didn't seem to care. The food was very good but to bring new friends here and telling them how good it was and then how slow and unapologetic the service was is embarrassing. Please try to get more employees. They had so many people in the restaurant and she seemed to be the only one.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended, , and it did not dissapoint. The pompano was THE BEST FISH I've ever tasted. And I'm a southern girl who loves blackened & fried catfish.

Yelp
I honestly found this place by chance, and I can say that this place especially took me by surprise! The Beef Tikka (first picture) paired with the salad and sauces complimented each other. The Iraqi salad (second picture) was indeed very pickled, but I enjoyed it very much. The Baba Ganoush (third picture) was good, too. The Tulumba (forth picture) dessert was my favorite dessert! To best describe it, it reminded me of a crunchy beignets covered in a rose water syrup! The Lentil soup (forth picture) had a very homey taste that warmed the soul. I would definitely come back here to try their firewood fish and chicken! #Tonylameats #neworleans #mediterraneanfood #hallalfood #almasgoof

Yelp
Me and the wife like to pick new places to eat to get a sense of the changing tastes in our city. This place was pretty good! Their hummus and bread that goes with it was superb! This is the only place that the hummus did not survive our visit. The service was fantastic, our server was nice and very helpful. Even gave our daughter a toy car to keep her busy. I had the beef tikka but I really feel I ordered wrong and should have been more adventurous. I hope to go check it out soon to try everything else on the menu. Place starts to get busy around 6 ish, but the staff is more than accommodating! Give it a try!

Yelp
Really unique falafel, service and decor was excellent. Odd location, but that is not their fault. Would definitely go again.

Yelp
Some of the best Middle Eastern cuisine in the New Orleans Metro area w/ good service @ a reasonable price. Loved it!

Yelp
We had an enjoyable first visit. My husband and I ordered: hummus, zatar bread, almasgoof kebab plate, and falafel sandwich. Our rankings were: kebab was our favorite, then the hummus, then the falafel, then the zatar bread. The kebab is very flavorful and the dressing on the salad was great. The hummus was also very good. The falafel was good, but different from the standard/expected. It was donut shaped and didn't have the green hue or substantial herbs flavor that I have had with others. It does taste good though. Lastly was the zatar bread. It was a little dry, although once we added a few squeezes of lemon it was enjoyable. As a side note, all items but the kebab needed a little added salt. The service was friendly and the owner came out of the kitchen and talked to each table which was a nice touch.

Yelp
Sizes were a bit small for the prices that were charged but it was tasty. The service was very kind!

Yelp
Enjoyed eating at Almasgoof several times in the past year. Each time I went the owner was present Good food fair price Good location

Yelp
Authentic Mediterranean/ Iraqi food at reasonable prices. I was in New Orleans over the weekend for a conference and got to visit this family owned and operated restaurant for dinner. The place was clean, very nicely decorated and the food was great. I enjoyed my pompano masgoof as well as the kebabs. The in house made samoon (Iraqi bread) took the meal to a different level of authenticity and deliciousness. The staff/family were courteous friendly. For dessert, I really enjoyed their made to order knafeh with fresh Iraqi tea!

Debbie C.

Yelp
the food & service , the atmosphere was great. The people were very nice and the food was amazing and I love the chicken really worth the time try it is an Iraqi restaurant food a little different, but very tasty

Yelp
Ian mcnulty brought us here. It's been a while so I don't remember exactly everything we ordered. Everything was shared. The burger was maybe the best thing we'd ever eaten. It was so good! We got a salad that had a too sweet dressing for our taste. But I do distinctly remember many amazing sauces. And the amazing waitress saw us loving them and brought us more. I wish I remember everything we got but my family will be back home soon for the summer so we'll definately be back.

Yelp
Best fish I've had in New Orleans metro area. Pámpano was outstanding. Service great and friendly

Sahar J.

Yelp
Very friendly service. Nice decor for the perfect Mediterranean atmosphere. The food was delicious! My family and I enjoyed everything and the knafa was outstanding. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The service is good. I really liked this place and will be back. The lentil soup was amazing and reminded me of autumn. The main course we got was also delicious and well prepared. I really liked the salad as well. I also loved the pita bread it was delicious. Definitely recommend and the food comes our quickly which is nice!

Hamid Z.

Yelp
Great food, owner is awesome. Highly recommend. Chicken is made on real fire in Try their tea.

Kristina R.

Yelp
The food here is outstanding! So good, in fact, that I didn't get the chance to take pictures because it smelled so good that we couldn't wait to dig in. We started with the hummus and honestly, it was the best hummus I've ever had!! The taste was so fresh. My husband ordered the mixed grill plate and devoured every bite of it. I had the chicken shawarma and it was nothing less than perfection! The chicken was very tender and juicy while bursting with flavor. We had Lebanese iced tea that compliments the flavors of the food while also acting as a palate cleanser. We finished off with a dessert that consisted of fried dough bites with drizzled honey that they serve with complimentary Iraqi hot tea. All in all...I will, definitely, be dining here again and telling others about it. The service was top notch as well. Don't sleep on this place, y'all!!

Yelp
We went there one evening with some friends when it was not at all busy. The food was actually quite delicious. Enjoyed the pompano, as well as the more traditional Middle Eastern dishes. They suggested some large platters that we could share, which gave us a variety of things to try, which was a good idea. The owner spent about half of our meal chatting with us; he has an interesting, personal story, which he shared readily, and he is extremely friendly and engaging. This is a nicely done family owned, family run operation. We certainly would go again and recommend it for everyone.

Duff G.

Yelp
Service is great. Food is excellent. Everything I have ordered has exceeded expectations.

Paul S.

Yelp
This place is great! Eggplant and potato soup, mixed grill and beef mindi. I'm sorry but I can't pick a favorite. The staff is very hospitable and eager to let you know about the food and the methods of cooking. The setting is cozy and casual. Definitely worth a try and a repeat visit!

Azfar B.

Yelp
A-MAZ-ING. This isn't your typical Americanized middle eastern food. This is amazing home made style Iraqi food. It has that gentle middle eastern flavor, but very different food that you haven't experienced. This food is just amazing, I don't know how else to explain it. Just remember, it's a mom and pop, this isn't glitzy or fancy, it's more like delicious home made small local food that can rock the boat off fancy food places.

Maria P.

Yelp
KNAFEH! Look it up! Such a delicious dessert, make sure you order it! Goes well with their tea... Loved all the food and the service, will be back! Went with friends and hubby and were treated as family, it is most definitely worth a try! Zaatar bread also yummy and baked cookie treats to take home....

Claudia F.

Yelp
This is the best Iraqi cuisine in New Orleans! The lentil soup was fresh and authentic. We had Pompano fish that was cooked perfectly and seasoned so well. The restaurant is family owned and ran and everyone was so kind.

Eslie T.

Yelp
This restaurant not only has a warm surroundings, the food is amazing. Tne chef/owner makes you feel welcomed and familiarizes you with the dishes. The portions are great , the food is some of the most delicious I've had in a while. A must try restaurant

Z A.

Yelp
Really great place that serves dishes you won't find in the rest of the city. I had the chicken mandi that is only served on Fridays and it was great. The portion size is enough for 2. It was delicious. The place had nice decor and looked clean. The staff was also very nice and showed that they cared about their customers.

Philip Y.

Yelp
it is a very small restaurant, family run with emphasis in a classical dish from Iraqi cuisine, namely the Masgoof, it is traditionally a grilled fish dish, in a coal fire, served with pickles. The description doesn't seem to be much but it is delicious and goes very well with a variety of Iraqi breads (some may say it was the precursor of pizzas). The service is friendly and the ambience is clean. So don't be put off because it is in a strip mall, try the dishes, an important point the day dry was there there was at least four Middle Eastern families eating together, a sign that the food is probably authentic.

Christine M.

Yelp
The flavors are delicious!!! The pompano fish was amazing. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. Portions a large. This is a must try!!! Owner is friendly!

Emily D.

Yelp
Love this place. Ate here in person and it was so delicious that we wanted to have them cater a Super Bowl party we hosted. Called week of to place an order for 30 people, and they could not have been nicer or more helpful. Everyone loved the food! The chicken and falafel were our favorites, but everything is good!

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Sooooo good! We got the lentil soup, hummus, mixed grill, and pompano. It was all perfectly cooked and seasoned, with generous portions. Friendly service. I also recommend trying the lemon & mint Schweppes drink that they serve; not something I would typically order but it's very refreshing.

Amin M.

Yelp
Very Friendly customer service and food was delicious. If you order the fish, I would suggest getting the green sauce they make with it

Sereen A.

Yelp
Great Iraqi Food in the heart of Louisiana. My family and I had a wonderful, authentic experience. The Pompano Fish was flaky and the mix grill was tender. I highly recommend!

Danielle T.

Yelp
Pretty disappointed in this place. The pita was cold and dry. I ordered the steak plate which was awful-super tough. We noted that to the waitress and were met with "yeah, maybe order something different next time." If you know a dish isn't good I would've appreciated a heads up.

Jane R.

Yelp
The owner, Alan, and his daughter couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. My friend and I love to try cuisines with which we are unfamiliar and Almasgoof didn't disappoint. We asked our waitress, Alan's daughter, to help us order and she recommended the pompano specialty which we both loved and highly recommend, and the grilled half chicken which was moist and flavorful. We started with a Baba Ghannoj, which had minced, crisp vegetables in it. Different from the usual and we were glad to have had it. Divine. Try the little dough balls dipped in honey for dessert. You'll be bringing an extra order home. Yep, we'll be back to Almoosgoof and suggest you give them a try.

Dennis S.

Yelp
Really great authentic food! You can tell its made fresh from scratch with healthy ingredients and not over spiced or over sauced.

Samantha W.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING the burger was different, wrapped in the bun and baked! Generous servings I was only able to finish half of it. Chicken and hummus were also really good!
