The 42 Best Restaurants in Rome

"Chef Tommaso Venuti may be lauded for his culinary prowess, but he’s also a dab hand at design, having studied architecture at university. His minimalist style is reflected in Almato, which he helped design. The space itself is pared back, with plenty of pale wood, blue steel, and sharp lines. Lighting is soft and the message is clear: you’re here for the food. With seating for just 28 people in the working-class district of Prati, this fine dining establishment is consistently packed, delighting a local, mostly Italian crowd who are excited to try Chef Tommaso Venuti’s boundary-pushing, multi-course land-to-sea menu.. The a la carte menu focuses on a land to sea journey, starting with appetizers such as scampi, radicchio and roots or foie gras, chestnuts, and red berries. The pastas include daikon tagliolini, but don’t leave without trying the standout risotto with orange zest and bitter Modica chocolate. The mains include creative combinations that work surprisingly well, such as the prettily plated duck, purple potatoes and lavender, and the lobster and artichoke, which is infused with rum. Alongside the a la carte menu, there are 5 (€75), 7 (€100) and 9 (€120) course tasting menus that change monthly." - Maresa Manara

Almatò

"Situated in the elegant, residential streets of the Prati district, this modern, minimalist-style restaurant is the setting for top-quality creative cuisine. For the most part, the menu eschews traditional Lazio dishes making this a good choice for anyone looking for something a little different." - Michelin Inspector

Excellent course menu. We enjoyed the 5 course tasting with paired wines. Some very unusual but fantastic flavours. Our waiter was quite young but delightful, knowledgeable and obviously very skilled at his recommendations and in his guidance through the menu. Would certainly recommend but come hungry. We rolled out after 5 courses. The complementary dishes were extremely generous.

8 course tasting menu was brilliant. The ravioli was my favourite dish, but they all were delicious. Very tasty and exceptionally good value for the quality.

Is more like 4,5 stars. The food was amazing and the service was great. Though there were some stuff I did not understood. Like why should my server touch my serviette and put it on my lap? Apart that this is not hygienic, I did not even had 10 seconds after ordering to do that on my own. I ordered the biggest menu, which was the 7 course. I eat a lot in fine dining restaurants so I know the is always the "greetings of the chef" and sometimes a last mini dessert extra. This time I got not only a greeting and the mini dessert, but also a whole extra course, as a gift. The problem was that exactly that course was bigger than the others and after that the last course before dessert, was even larger. So when the first dessert arrived, I was almost exploding, because I was full. But in general the quality was awesome and I had very much fun there.

We visited Almato out of curiosity as it is mentioned in a Michelin guide. The restaurant aspires for its first star and I am pretty sure they will get it soon. Magical experience, the food is excellent 👌 and the way it looks- masterpiece. Only the pasta with lemon grass was too bitter for us. Dessert was absolutely to die for, we haven't eaten a better one ever. "Cappuccino" - I can only give a hint that it isn't what it looks like ;) Thank you for an excellent and friendly service too it was an absolute pleasure to visit Almato.

We are very happy with our visit! Small and cozy place. The service is up to the highest standards. The food is worhy of a michelin star. Book a table in advance, order the 5 or 7 course menu and expect to have a great time.

Had the absolute best meal of my life here a bit over a year ago and I literally cannot stop thinking about it. Aside from being located in the most beautiful city, this restaurant has the friendliest staff and most wonderful tasting menu. Everything had a distinct flavor and absolutely blew me away (even courses I would not normally enjoy under normal circumstances). The focaccia is to die for. Also the thin stemmed wine glasses were life changing. Please go here if you want the best experience and meal of your life (well worth the pricing).
