Lincoln Park’s Best Restaurants | Eater Chicago

"This long-time fast-casual Hawaiian restaurant serves the city’s best plate lunch, down to the white disposable containers. Spam musubi and marinated beef short rib make for great meals, along with the customary macaroni salad and a scoop of white rice." - Ashok Selvam

Chicago’s Best Family-Owned Restaurants | Eater Chicago

"Chicago’s original Hawaiian plate lunch restaurant Aloha Eats is a taste of paradise. For many Chicagoans, it was their first encounter with a Spam musubi, and for homesick islanders, an important reminder of Hawai’i. Recently celebrating 20 years, a lot of stories and history have been made here, and the family continues to pile the mac salad and kalua pork high." - Alex Jewell

Chicago May Ban Styrofoam Containers at Restaurants - Eater Chicago

"For some restaurants, Styrofoam is routine. Aloha Eats in Lincoln Park serves traditional Hawaiian plate lunches in its customary white containers. Isabel Lee, whose father opened the restaurant in 2005, said that she coincidentally talked with a supplier last week with hopes of finding an environmentally friendly replacement. Lee didn’t know about the proposed ordinance. Recycled plastic should cost just as much as the old Styrofoam, she said. According to media reports, if passed, the city would keep a list of approved suppliers of environmentally friendly containers." - Ashok Selvam

Google
Aloha Eats is an excellent substitute for meals in The Islands but of course missing the ocean and the great beaches. Definitely 4.4⭐️s. Nonetheless, the loco moco (traditional and katsu style) was fantastic. The gravy, beef/fried pork and the eggs all melded together as whrn I recall eating this on The Islands. Though not fancy, its filling and tasty, what its exactly mesnt to be. The spam musubi was every bit as good as it should be. Only critique would be a thicker cut of spam and bit less rice. It would bring the salty v sweet teryaki on the rice more in balance. An excellent meal on a very hot day.

Google
We had a perfect meal at Aloha Eats. The food took us back to our trip to hawaii. It's so great to find authentic hawaiian food in the city. Their food is definitely different from your typical casual counter service restaurant. A complete nutritious meal that covers most of the food groups. Portions are a good size, and even the mini plates are enough to fill you up. Here's what we ate: Hurricane fries (highly recommended) fries topped with Teriyaki glaze, Sriracha mayo, and Furikake (rice seasoning). Shrimp Shumai (really delicious with a dash of soy sauce). Pork Katsu mini plate Fried shrimp mini plate Fried shrimp with bbq beef combo plate Most plates come with rice, macaroni salad, and cabbage. You get to pick your protein. If you're looking for something different that is nutritious and delicious, be sure to stop by Aloha Eats

Google
Very tasty Chicken Katsu! Aloha Eats has a small kitchen, so there was a 15 minute wait, but it was definitely worth it. And while the price of $16 for a meal is a bit high, the portion size basically makes it two meals.

Kristin

Google
Ordered the mini Mochiko Chicken, an order of spam musubi, and a can of soda for 23$. Honestly, a 23$ well spent. They note that food takes a few minutes which I appreciate having the heads up about. Everything was hot and fresh and there’s good amounts of seating around. Will definitely be coming back to try more!

Google
Hafa Adai and Aloha!!! BBQ (all of them) and Loco Moco was great. And also the Spam Musubi and Portuguese sausage plate was very good. Love the island style foods. Very friendly staff and excellent service. My family and I visit Aloha Eats every time we are in Chicago. Si Yu’us Ma’ase and Mahalo!!!

Google
FIRE! The bbq chicken was tender and flavorful and cooked to perfection. The katsu, both pork and chicken, was breaded precisely and paired with the katsu sauce flawlessly. The bbq beef was tender, sweet and chopped up to mix with the rice. And of course, the Mac salad. It was not too sweet, yet had just the right amount of sweetness to curve your craving. I’m mad at myself for not visiting sooner.

Google
We are visiting Chicago and found this place close to where we're staying. This place was amazing! The decor was beautiful and cozy, the staff was super sweet! The food came out fast (there was 5 of us) and every bite was delicious! They even had a vegetarian option for me! ( tofu katsu) I highly recommend!

Google
A cute spot for low-key Hawaiian food. Tried the loco moco, spam musubi, and pork katsu & bbq beef combo—the food was okay. The wait during lunch was a bit long. It’s an option to consider if you’re in the area and want something casual.

Yelp
Aloha Eats is conveniently located on Clark Street. I had a wonderful first experience there recently. The menu was bigger than expected. The best part is you can order their lunch boxes any time of the day. I highly recommend starting with their Hurricane Fries, these were unreal. The bbq beef was delicious and so was the chicken Katsu. Get a side of curry to dip the chicken in, it adds delicious flavor. I also enjoyed that the meal came with Mac salad and rice! It was all such a nice combination. I can't wait to go back and try more menu items. The staff were very friendly and it was clean inside. You can also order them for take out, they are fast!

Yelp
When you call to place an order you are greeted with a friendly "aloha". They were honest with their pick-up time of around 30 minutes. When I walked in one person was working the register and two were working in back. They had 2-3 orders in bags ready for pick up on a Wednesday night and a couple of patrons dining in. I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ Short Ribs & Chicken Katsu Combo and Hurricane Frys. Katsu is a Japanese dish of breaded and fried cutlets, often made with chicken or pork, that's considered a popular comfort food. Both proteins paired great with the soft rice and creamy macaroni salad. There is also some shredded cabbage included for my girlies who need some crunch in their life! The BBQ Short Ribs were not gamey or fatty, and made my eyes roll in the back of my head from enjoyment. They were beautifully seasoned with sauce and fell off the bone easily. The Hurricane Frys were far from normal fries with ketchup. The fries themself were average but all the toppings made them unique.

Yelp
Solid hawaiian BBq options and the macaroni salad is great! Highly recommend for in person or delivery

Yelp
The type of dish that would make you glare at your boyfriend if he kept wanting to "try the dish" even though he already took two very big bites. It was YUMMY and cozy and the pricing was quite actually perfect for it. If I were to price it myself I would also price it the same exact way. I was very happy thank you!!

Yelp
A good example of what you can eat in Hawaii, very tasty, friendly service Freshly made food

Yelp
Chicken Katsu & BBQ Beef combo for delivery. Lots of food and held up pretty well. The chicken was nicely breaded but a little dry. I also thought that there wasn't enough chicken for the amount of breading. Katsu sauce on the side was good. The beef was super sweet and solid. Couldn't really ask for anything different there. The mixed veggies were probably straight from a can and could have used salt but did their job. Lastly, the mac & cheese was very watery in the sense the cheese wasn't thick or plentiful. Another mac I don't like.
google avatar

Mandy A.

Yelp
I was staying at hostel nearby and found this place have good reviews. I placed an order online for delivery, I had their BBQ beef place with rice, mac, and bean. This plate had lots of good reviews, was expecting good quality, however, when I tried it, it tasted just okay.. little bit disappointed as the meat wasn't tender, and juicy, it was like more seasoned , salted.. wouldn't try again.
google avatar

Tracy L.

Yelp
We were shopping nearby and stopped in for a lunch. We ordered Loco Moco, Hurricane Fries, and Mochiko Chicken. All dishes were nicely prepared and tasted good, but the Hurricane Fries were a tad too salty with the combo of sauce and furikake seasoning. The Mochiko Chicken did have a resemblance of chewy mochi, but it felt like it was missing something/seasoning. The chicken could've easily been dry, but it wasn't and it actually helped balance with the fries. My bf enjoyed the Loco Moco and commented how it's hard to find. Before ordering, they did warn the kitchen was a bit backed up. It's a small restaurant and most tables were occupied, but we realized they were also managing takeout orders. So, just be aware if you're in a hurry.

Yelp
I stopped by for a quick dinner after work. The chicken is a bit salty but the food is overall really good and filling! The macaroni salad was creamy & hittin for me. I would come back again! The staff was also really informed and kind too!

Yelp
Anytime I can get my hands on Aloha Eats, I am one happy camper! Shared some of my favorites with my daughter because we are huge fans of this authentic Hawaiian food stop. We could not wait to gobble up awesome warm fresh spam musubi, salacious barbecue chicken plate with perfectly made macaroni salad, two scoops of perfectly cooked rice plus pork Katsu and teriyaki minced beef. More than enough for second helpings/leftovers. What a gem in Lakeview! Wish you would deliver or have a second location in South Loop! But I'll be back soon!

Marisa C.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I live in Pilsen and will always make the trek to eat here. Food is made to order and always fresh. Julie, the cashier, is always so inviting and friendly. No wonder they've been around for 20 years, they know what they're doing!
google avatar

Kaitlyn W.

Yelp
Love finding Hawaiian food in the city!! We got the bbq beef and pork katsu combo which comes with two scoops of rice and Mac salad, spam katsu musubi, and hurricane fries. It was $20 and we had plenty of leftovers. Definitely have some water handy because this is quite a salty meal. Overall, very good value

Yelp
Holy portion size! It's been several years since I have visited Hawaii, and my first time at Aloha Eats, I couldn't wait to try a taste of Hawaii! I got the Chicken Katsu Loco, I appreciated that they serve for the gravy on the side for me! Huge portion, I could not finish it all. I also got Spam Musubi! Both great choices, next visit I want to try a bbq plate. Smaller place but friendly service, we will be back in the future! My 2 year old daughter was dancing around to the island music they had on, it was so cute!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite Hawaiian food in all of Chicago! I always get their Kalbi and chicken katsu combo meal. It comes with two scoops of white rice and a scoop of their amazing macaroni salad. My wife loves their loco moco (mini pictured). We also get the spam musubi which is probably overkill but we like it so much. Rarely get the opportunity to make it to Lakeview these days, but we def stop by when we are in the are

Yelp
One of my favorite Hawaiian food spot in Lakeview! Their mini loco moco, featuring a juicy burger patty over fluffy white rice topped with eggs and savory gravy, is my absolute favorite. The side of macaroni is simply delicious too. They offer generous portions and a diverse menu selection, all enjoyed in a charming indoor seating area. Tasted the Katsu chicken too and it was so delicious. Perfect for a taste of Hawaii right here in the city!
google avatar

Yelp
Truly a hidden gem! You must give aloha eats a try. The food is amazing once you have the first bite you will want to order more. I will say get the pork Katsu and have them serve you less rice and it will be even better. And the gravy is legit worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
I saw this place listed on a couple of guides and the yelp rating seemed okay but I definitely would not recommend. It seems like it is things slapped together to give the general idea of hawaiian food. I got the loco moco and it tasted like meatloaf with gravy. Having had several loco mocos this place definitely was not it. Additionally, I got the egg over medium and the egg was placed in the loco moco with a ton of oil that i had to dab it with a napkin. The mac salad was just macaroni with some mayo, nothing special at all. Service was chill and the space had about 6-7 tables which I never saw wiped down. I probably won't come back again and overall it looked unappetizing.

Yelp
I have no idea why I haven't reviews this place yet because I've been a few times! ABSOLUTELY delicious. If you stop in: DELICIOUS, if you order delivery: DELICIOUS! It's all delicious. I usually get the combination plate and everything is cooked to perfection. The beef ribs are my absolute favorite: however they season those things are so tasty. The Mac salad is some of the best I've had. I went out on a whim and ordered the fried spam and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm never disappointed in the quality and taste of food here. Bear in mind they cook most foods to order so be prepared to wait a while for GREAT FOOD.

Yelp
I've been on a Loco Moco craze and decided to try Aloha Eats for the first time. The restaurant itself is small, more cafeteria style, but super cozy nonetheless. The menu is extensive, so many different options to try and the prices are great for the huge amount of food you get. The service was great. The lady behind the counter was really nice and helpful. She recommended a few dishes, but I was set on the Loco Moco. You can either get the regular option, which comes with double rice, mac and two fried eggs, or you can get the half portion if you're not THAT hungry. I genuinely enjoyed it, but I feel like I've had better. It just didn't hit all the spots for me. The burger Pattie's were a bit on the chewy side. The gravy was good, but just wasn't as flavorful as the ones I've had before. Either way, it's still a great and satisfying takeout meal. I saw a lot of people order the Chicken Katsu, so I'm assuming it is a more popular option. I'll definitely be trying that next time.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Aloha Eats is good, not amazing. The chicken katsu, while not my favorite ever, was yummy and I really enjoyed the macaroni salad. I thought for the price that the portion seemed pretty reasonable (for the lunch plate). I couldn't finish the chicken, ate 95% of the rice, and devoured the macaroni salad. My big qualm comes in with the use of styrofoam take out containers and plastic cutlery even when eating in. I know it makes life easier as you don't need to clean dishes ... but there are other options that exist that are better.
google avatar

Steve N.

Yelp
I haven't been to Aloha Eats in a few years. This was a nice Hawaiian treat. We tried the chicken Katsu plate, hurricane fries, mochiko chicken, broccoli , carrots and . Everything was pretty good, made to order and fresh. And we tried the spam fries which were very good, nice and crispy and delicious. It is better than I remember it being from past experiences. I would recommend this place if you are in the mood for some Hawaiian local favorites!
google avatar

Rosa C.

Yelp
Walked 30 min in the cold so I felt like I really deserved the piping hot Loco Moco with extra mac salad. And boy, did it hit the spot. The hamburger was cooked perfectly and it was so comforting with the runny eggs and gravy. The mac salad and spam musubis are legit authentic. Best surprise was the fries with furikake--a must!
google avatar

Precious B.

Yelp
I use to love this place but I ordered the Hawaiian bbq beef plate yesterday and it was $19.00 something. I think the portions downsized. They placed lettuce underneath the beef probably to create the illusion of a bigger portion, rice scoops are extremely small and the Mac salad was really bland.
google avatar

Marissa P.

Yelp
Delicious, traditional Hawaiian food! Isabel (the owner) made me a custom plate which fit all my cravings & dietary restrictions. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Annie S.

Yelp
Seriously you need to try this place!!! I come to Chicago 3-4x a year and make sure that I pick up Aloha each time I am here. Food - I love the bbq beef plate. So much flavorful beef with mac salad and rice over cabbage. I don't like cabbage and want the meat flavors to soak into the rice, so I ask for no cabbage every time. I've also had the bbq beef and pork katsu plate, it was SO much food. Like a full katsu and beef for $20. Great deal. Seating - there aren't many tables, so if you have a big group or are coming at a popular hour, then you might not get a seat. Just call ahead and it takes 15 - 20 mins for the food. Parking - major yikes in this area. Best of luck to you lol.

Yelp
Food is amazing. Going to be hard not to get this once a week! Had chicken katsu and bbq beef combo and can't wait to try something different next time. But can already tell that might be my go to!
google avatar

Yelp
Having visited Hawaii twice and lived there for ten weeks during the pandemic, I can attest to the authentic taste of this small restaurant. It is so yummy! I've had the teriyaki chicken sandwich twice:) this time I decided to try the pork katsu with curry on the side( the previous time I had visited it was so busy that the wait time for food was 45 min) So i called in to make a pick up order on the way there and it was ready when I had arrived. The owner was gracious enough to allow me to dine there. The regular katsu came with a large container of ketchup on the side and my spicy curry we absolutely Devine. It was crunchy spicy and savory! Loved loved every bite! It's a family run restaurant from Hawaii! Delicious!
google avatar

Nguyet L.

Yelp
very good chicken terayaki and spam Mitsubu, i also tried their lunch chicken with rice !
google avatar

Ash T.

Yelp
Love the Mac and the sticky rice. My favorite Hawaiian bbq place. I came here a few times already and I would travel for it Everything spot on
google avatar

Jeremy N.

Yelp
I had some friends telling me about them and wanted to get my opinion. Decent amount of people when I first walked in which is a good sign. The service was great and ordering was easy. There's limited seating and more people came in after ordering. Food was great and would come back again! I ordered the pork katsu loco plate with sunny side up eggs. There was sauce with it but didn't need to use too much of it.
google avatar

Wayne E.

Yelp
The food is authentic as it comes and the service is excellent! I LOVE THE MAC SALAD!

Yelp
Hole-in-the-wall Hawaiian joint serving delicious plate lunches, masubi, and more. Delicious Hawaiian comfort food and Friendly Service. One of my favorite spots in Chicago!
google avatar

Yelp
Based on Yelp reviews, we tried this neighborhood gem for the first time tonight. We tried a couple of different dishes - chicken katsu and.beef katsu, novo loco and a delicious order of hurricane fries. Yum! Everything was freshly made, piping hot and seasoned perfectly. A return visit is definitely going to happen
google avatar

Kendra M.

Yelp
Okay, so we tried aloha eats years ago and thought it was very meh. Just did not have anything special enough to go back for. But, we recently booked a trip to Hawaii, and wanted to get in the spirit, so we picked up lunch here. I don't know how we were thinking that it was just okay?! We got a chicken katsu plate and a bbq beef plate, with a side of hurricane fries. The hurricane fries were INSANE, it was crinkle fries with spicy mayo, teriyaki, and furikake, and it tasted like sushi on a french fry. I'm coming back for those alone! Both of our plates were good too, the sauce on the katsu was yummy and the macaroni salad was really good. I will say, it was $45 for everything which seemed really expensive, but my katsu plate was so large I ate it for three meals. It reheats well in the air fryer!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get takeout! The mini plate is two meals for me, the regular has more of the rice and macaroni.
google avatar

Erick A.

Yelp
YES YES YES For someone that tired Hawaiian food for their first time, YES! Chicken, rice, salad, tofu & soda's were ALL so yummy. The lady at the front desk was so nice and helpful to us. Don't remember what things are called, but that crispy and BBQ chicken... Yes yes yes!! Loved the decoration too, such a cute place. Small, but cute.
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
Just wandered in here without really knowing what we were in for. Ordered a bunch of food for our family of four, and even our younger picky eaters loved it. Will definitely go back if we are back in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Karan H.

Yelp
Fantastic experience and delicious food. The menu is extensive and if you haven't been to Hawaii (like me) make sure to ask questions. We got the hurricane fries, pork katsu curry, spam loco moco and spam katsu musubi. Hurricane fries were delicious and a decently sized portion. The sauce X furikake combo straight slapped. Pork katsu was delicious and honestly PLENTIFUL. I mean we're talking like 2/3 meals no joke. I ordered a side of curry and gravy. Curry was on the spicier end and tbh was my favorite. The gravy was also very good, tangy but on the sweeter side. Wish they could do half half on the katsu but it's served on the side. Loco Moco was good and looked delicious. Didn't try it personally so can't say a lot more ha. The drinks were fantastic. I mean truly delicious in flavor but not overwhelmingly sweet like most sodas. Also as my friend said, the spam is "literally a block of rice" so don't order it as a side thinking it'll be tiny . Will definitely be back and this time, hopefully try some of the less fried stuff on the menu ha

Yelp
Feeling homesick, not for the Islands, but just spam and a larger abundance of Islander food back in Californai I came here a few times and had mixed feelings of comfort and disappointment. Service is generally good, price is fair, decor is par for the course. I love how they deflect against this chipoke wave. The Saimin was bland. I feel like they only offer it because it's a staple in Hawaii. I don't really get much pork or chicken in the broth and the noodles aren't bouncy enough. Spam musubi is good, but they need to work on the sauce and cut down on the rice, it's not an onigiri. The rice on their places is good, mac salad could use more vinegar and mayo, it's a little loose. I feel like they don't season the water when they cook the noodles. Katsu has great crust, but no flavor, dry, unmarinated, irregular pieces come from using boxed boneless skinless chicken thighs and not cleaning them up. Loco moco is good, eggs are never overdone and the gravy ratio is excellent, nothing worse than not enough. All the BBQ plates i had were good, well marinated, good char, tender. I came here 6 times in 3 months. Pickup is fine, delivery is fine, dine in is the way to go. Limited beverage situation. I also though they would have other offerings like furikake, chili pepper water and a more refined shoyu teriyaki magic sauce.

Yelp
Came here during the weekend and got the pork and chicken katsu plate lunches, one with the special sweet sauce and one with brown gravy. This place is quite popular and the space is smallish so we did wait ~15ish minutes for the food to come out. Cons: I also wish the katsus were juicier/fattier. The meat for either wasn't dry, but it could've been better. I would've preferred a crispier and lighter coating, too. The mac salad was pretty bland and flavorless, and scanty compared to the amount of meat and rice. Since they're so busy, sometimes the tables are a bit dirty since there wasn't time to wipe them down yet. The sweet sauce is quite sweet and comes in a much smaller container than the gravy. The gravy did not taste as good as the sweet sauce. Pros: The portions are huge. The food is ok, even if it isn't spectacular, and I appreciate that the food is made to order. Having both the sweet sauce and the gravy was good, though if just one of them on its own would've been a little boring. If you do want the katsu and are unsure what to order, I slightly preferred the pork to the chicken, and the sweet sauce to the gravy. Overall I would come back to try other items on the menu! I love that this restaurant has been around for quite a while, and is beloved by the neighborhood. Maybe I just misordered this first time.

Yelp
Nice spot to try Hawaiian food! The menu is expansive with all the variety of dishes and combos. The food was decent, the portions are big, but our food took a long time to come out. We got the kalua pork and chicken katsu lunch plates. The kalua pork was a little disappointing since 50% of the mixture was cabbage. The pieces of pork were tasty and had a nice smokey flavor, I just wish there was more pork. The chicken katsu however, was really good and I'd recommend this dish! The chicken was nice and crisp, flavorful, and I liked the dip it came with. Both of these lunch plates came with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. I was surprised at how much I liked the macaroni salad! I also got spam musubi. This was okay, I felt like it was a little bland since there was so much rice and the rice wasn't flavored. This was my first time trying spam musubi, so maybe this is how it's intended. A disappointing part of our experience was how long it took for our food to come out, since we had to wait almost 30 minutes after ordering to get our food. It looked like there was only one chef in the kitchen, so they're probably understaffed. Overall we had a mixed experience. Some of the food was just okay but the chicken katsu was really great! I'd recommend this place if you're in the mood to try Hawaiian food, but I don't know if I'd go out of my way to come back.

Yelp
Man this place is good. I get the bbq beef with chicken Katsu combo with white meat sub and all rice. 10/10 every time and I usually do delivery. If I get a bad order I'll remove this review, but hasn't happened since and i usually order from here around once a week or so.

Yelp
GOD THIS FOOD IS AMAZING!!! Staff was very nice and understanding and explained some menu items to me since this was my first time trying Hawaiian food! The place was small but there was plenty of seating for a Friday night! I got the combination chicken katsu and bbq short rib plate. With a side of curry and mixed veggies. Everything was so delicious. The curry had a bit of spice to it but it made the dish better. The katsu was so crispy and delicious, next time I'm ordering it with white meat! I will be back. I want to try so much more!

Ashley D.

Yelp
Food is so delicious every time! Service is fast and everyone's so friendly. Also the portions are super generous.

Yelp
I want Aloha Eats to cater my wedding. Should I ever have a kid, I hope their first words are Aloha Eats. And then, may that kid grow up to live in a world where majoring in Aloha Eats is a legitimate career option. When I die, they better serve Aloha Eats at the funeral. I love this place, I go every Friday after work. I've started not eating lunch so I'm hungry enough to actually eat the insane portion sizes. I also bought a shirt from them and it's genuinely the comfiest shirt I own, super soft. Bury me in it at that aforementioned funeral. Love y'all, love the whole team, everything you do is amazing.

Yelp
My friend found this place on Yelp. It is kinda divey (no judgement). Be careful - portions here are very, VERY large. Get the small plate (it's still huge) -or better yet, split something with a friend. I got the mini plate, chicken Katzu, mac salad, rice and curry sauce on the side. Hubby got the large plate with some kind of beef stir-fry (which was the thing we ordered that I liked the best) and pork Katzu (+ mac salad and rice). Other friends ordered similar, and we also got a Spam (Katsu?) as a side. The SPAM was very good. Put it this way, we didn't feel the need to take our abundant leftovers home. There was a homeless lady ordering at the counter, so we gave her our neatly packed/consolidated leftovers - which she happily accepted.

Yelp
Was very excited to try this place given the reviews and my love for Hawaiian food. The best Hawaiian spots (besides Hawaii of course) have got to be in California and Aloha Wagon in Chicago near Pilsen is close to it. This place on the other hand was far from the mark. The place is small cute spot but the food was just not very good. The chicken katsu curry was extremely salty and flavorless. The curry itself was not what I expected as it tasted like bland gravy with a pound of salt and no curry flavor. The chicken katsu had thick breading on it with thin pieces of chicken, although we were given a decent portion. The mac salad was okay, not great not bad. For $20 a plate, I did expect better food. They also charge for katsu sauce if you order the chicken curry which is almost $1.50 I believe. It's not a spot I'd come back to most likely. The lady was nice who ordered for us although the service could've been a little better given we did give a generous tip for a takeout order and they still wanted to charge us for a small sauce.

Yelp
Local Hawaiian casual eatery in Lincoln Park. Came here after the Lincoln Zoo (it was about a 20 min walk) for lunch in a group of five. Indoor dining/takeout is available (no outdoor dining options). Credit cards are accepted. It's a great spot for cheap eats that are tasty and comforting. You order/pay at the counter and then pick it up once ready. I got an order of spam musubi to snack on my plane ride later that day, and they still helped up several hours later. I got the bbq beef saimin which came with thin noodles, some veggies, and a generous portion of thinly cut bbq beef. It was a super satisfying meal. I would recommend getting a mini plate (or full plate if you want to split a meal) of the loco moco. The gravy was next level - the rice was also pretty soft too.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place but everything was just okay to me. Overall the prices were also a bit high for the portion, so I just didn't feel satisfied. Not pictured but I also tried the spam musubi and it needed more sauce. I just tasted a lot of rice. Chicken Katsu- crispy and I liked the sauce a lot, but it's pretty bland without it. BBQ Beef- Really salty to me and needed to eat with a lot of rice. Macaroni Salad- I was hyped for this too but it was missing flavor and wasn't as creamy as I would like. I feel like it didn't add anything to the dish. Hurricane Fries- It was like sushi on fries, which wasn't my cup of tea. Could've done without. Loco Moco- My favorite out of everything, the gravy was delicious and meat patties were soft.
