"Aloha Hawaiian BBQ is a new restaurant in Little Village serving Hawaiian food, with a tea and smoothie menu almost as long as the list of food options. Expect everything from teriyaki chicken and grilled lemongrass pork plates to rice bowls topped with BBQ available for dine-in against a tropical sunset mural. (There’s delivery and take-out, too.)" - john ringor, veda kilaru, nick allen

This is a good no frills place for some affordable Hawaiian food. It’s a little shabby inside but also cozy with a few decorative touches. You can dine in or take your food to-go. My crispy shrimp plate and mango sticky rice were both really good and made fresh. Nothing fancy, but the food hits the spot and is a decent portion for the price you get.

Google
It just opened and I’ve been twice already! Great service. They even remembered me. The portions are generous and the food is on point. This area was in need of something different. I got the Hawaiian BBQ mix the first time and loco moco this time. Both were delicious! Needless to say I will be back!

Everything I've ordered from this place has been great. If you like great meat this is your spot. It turns out this is a "satellite" location for Bangkok Garden where I've ordered pad Thai often, but that dry and less flavorful Pad doesn't compare to the Pad Thai at Hawaiian BBQ - best in Hampton Roads.

Google
I will start off by saying this is not bad at all but it did miss the mark a little bit. I've had better in the area but for the price I would say it's fair value. I expected the yolk in the loco Moco to be runny so I'm not sure if it continued to cook during transportation or if they cooked it all the way or if it has to be requested but I'm used to runny. Tasted good, just wasn't great. The place gave a vibe of a Chinese restaurant serving Hawaiian food. I could still recommend it but there are better choices.

👍 Awesome Hawaii food, friendly service, and fun place to eat at. A little bit of Hawaii in Virginia.

Should have read reviews before coming here, but it’s my nature to try things out on my own… Anyway, parking is limited but thank goodness for dedicated parking to the side of the building. There are even palm trees at the corner- felt like little hut, there are benches for outside seating. There were 2 people dining in and 3 people in succession who came in to carry out. Seems like there are local patrons who like this place. Well to the order I placed. I got the BBQ beef and chicken with side of macaroni salad and rice comes with the entree. Visually inviting. The beef was tender. Somehow it’s not seasoned enough. So was the chicken, visually there with its golden orange color and grill marks at the edges … but not anything great, even on the bland side. Even the macaroni salad had mayonnaise but it’s just that… warm mayonnaise, no other taste to it.

Stay away. I went there yesterday for the first time during my lunch break because this restaurant is 6 minutes away so I decided to give it a try. When I got my order and got back to work to eat the food. The meat was greasy and fatty. When I started eating it it didn’t taste right. I’ve had this same type of meal at another establishment by Lynnhaven and it looked nothing like that. I ate maybe a mouthful and threw it away. 2 hours later I had food poisoning and threw up all in the restroom and had diarrhea the next morning. Never ever ever ever ever ever eating there again!

Google
Absolutely phenomenal food! I enjoy their Kahlua pork! Full of flavor, tender, and juicy! I've also enjoyed their Kalbi Short Ribs a few times, and the Spam Masubi. Both delicious, and satisfying. Great portions for the price, and the staff is really pleasant about 92 percent of the time. I will frequent there because the ones who are nice make it worth the while! ALSO, if you stop in don't forget to try the Aloha Tea! YUM!

Yelp
I got the garlic shrimp and added onions, with rice and Mac salad. The Mac salad was bland but still good with everything together. I did like the flavor of the garlic shrimp. It was a decent portion. You get about 8 shrimp for $13.95. The lady at the counter was nice. The restaurant has sauces and condiments you can fix yourself on the side. There's katsu and teriyaki sauce to go with the chicken and beef. I originally wanted shrimp and beef kebabs, but it would have been $10 additional. I do wish you got a larger scoop of rice. The meal was decent, I'd get it again. Check them out.

Yelp
Aloha will always have my heart, my go to is the bbq chicken and chicken katsu combo with a Thai tea. Can't get enough of their Mac salad too. Naturally they could use an upgrade on the inside but I usually get it to-go and the food never disappoints me.

Yelp
Honestly the food is so good you'll wanna slap your mama. I've been coming here for years and I'm never disappointed. I went to college in Hawaii so this is the best thing when I'm having Hawaiian good cravings. The portions are plentiful. The meat is juicy, tender and flavorful. The rice is always cooked to perfection - like that sticky rice everyone loves. I love how with this meal I get the juice to pour over my rice and how it's just enough cabbage. Service is always good. Never had any issues. And it's reasonably priced. 10/10 highly recommend

Yelp
I enjoyed my lunch at Aloha Hawaiian BBQ. I ordered the Aloha tea for my beverage and it was tasty. For my meal, I got the short ribs with a side of macaroni and rice. I enjoyed the flavor of the ribs, they were marinated nicely. The macaroni salad was yummy and nicely combined with the other flavors of the dish. Place is decorated with vibrant colors and Hawaiian decor. Service was okay. For dessert I tried the coconut custard. It was warm and sweet. Parking was ample, place wasn't too busy for a Saturday. They did have lots of take out calls coming in. I overall enjoyed my experience at Aloha Hawaiian BBQ.

Yelp
I should have read the Yelp review for this location prior to visiting!! So we ordered chicken combo and Hawaiian BBQ mix. The order was placed in-person and eaten right away once we got back to our hotel. We were originally planning on eating in but there were roaches crawling by the entrance and some darting near our car. Well......... we were in for a disappointment once we got to taste the food. The chicken katsu came with no sauce and tasted like chewy dry cardboard. The BBQ chicken looked very brown but mostly tasted like just sugar and soy sauce for seasoning. The BBQ mix -- the kalbi, chicken, and beef all tasted the same. Just sugar and soy sauce sautéed to imperfection. None of the items were grilled. In fact, the whole meal tasted all the same except for the under seasoned chicken katsu. Were the meat tender? NO! Macaroni salad tasted ok except it was rather mushy and overly sweet. The mashed potato was ok. The rice was probably the best part of the meal as I just used the furikake I bought from the Ichiban Japanese store nearby. So sad! There are many wonderful restaurants in the area and you certainly aren't missing out by skipping this one.

Yelp
Food is delicious. However it was served to me in a styrofoam container when I was a dine-in. My plate required me to use a knife and I was cutting the bottom of the styrofoam. Also, it seemed like one of the workers had their kids there. I don't hate kids or anything, but they were yelling while on their tablets. I had to move tables to get away. Lastly, while I was sitting at my new table by the window, a cockroach crawled past me. TLDR: Good food, crap environment.

Yelp
Been trying to find a good Hawaiian BBQ spot and was recommended Aloha. I had tried another place a couple weeks ago and won't be going back there. I went late at night about an hour to closing so I'm going to blame it on that for the quality of food. In short, wasn't impressed. Meat was a bit overcooked and the BBQ beef was very tough like jerky. Had to use extra teriyaki sauce on the chicken and the short ribs were very salty. Decent Mac salad. I'm hoping to change this rating and come back during the day. I read the other reviews and people talked about the service and I would have to agree. Not very personable but was kind. Restaurant is very small. About 5-6 booths in the front. Didn't see the back area.

Yelp
More like 2.5 stars. I was so happy to try this place. I was visiting from out of town and Hawaiian BBQ is not something you can find where I live. I grew up in Hawaii, so I was so excited to finally have something that reminded me of my time there. The excitement was short lived. I ordered the Kalbi with rice and Mac salad, spam Musubi, and a manapua. The only thing that tasted good was the rice. The Kalbi just tasted weird. The sauce did not remind me of Hawaiian BBQ. The Mac salad was more like a regular macaroni salad that you can buy at any store. How can you mess up spam Musubi? I didn't think you can, but this one wasn't that great. I try to find the good in every place that I go to and I guess in this case, my cousin, who recommended this place, really enjoys the Chicken Katsu. I left so disappointed and still hungry. Will not be going back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Food is always good and fresh. It's never a long wait for your food and the employees are nice and friendly. The atmosphere is calming and always clean.

Kenya B.

Yelp
I love this place! It is a go to for my Hawaiian cravings! I always get the chicken katsu and it never disappoints. The BBQ mix was alright, good for the price though! I do wish they would let you buy singular masubis. The workers are friendly and I never have a problem placing an order over the phone or in person.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
This place is delicious. Parking can get interesting the there's plenty of room inside for large groups. The food is just outstanding.

Javis J.

Yelp
I walked in and not one attendant said hello, coughed, or acknowledged me, the only thing that was important was everyone in there being on their phones and not paying attention to the door.

Malona M.

Yelp
Loco moco was good burger did not seem homemade gravy was smackinggggg but the Mac Orono salad was so mid and I purchased two food was overall ok was expecting so much better.

Manny N.

Yelp
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. The Hawaiian barbecue plate is what we ordered. It's hard to find good Hawaiian food, but I'd say this place is worth a visit. I would visit again but most likely just order ahead for pickup. It's a pretty no-frills type of place. Not the best ambiance and although there is seating in the back, it wasn't open when we visited. The front area was packed and wait time was over 30 minutes.

Brenda N.

Yelp
The food is ok to me, I'm not a big fan but others that I know like it a lot. I live probably 5 minutes away and won't go back but other people I know love it enough to go back every time they come to visit. To each their own. I order pizza from the chain across the street when they visit. (That one's hit or miss too)

Yelp
Have you ever wanted to try a place that serves a hamburger topped with pineapple rings, massaman curry, and spam sliders? If so, this Hawaiian restaurant is for you. The menu is fun with Hawaiian Twist on many items. They're traditional favorites of American Diner there are also different curries and Asian dishes and finally there are some things that defy classification. In three trips to the restaurant our party of 2-4 has tried different things each time. So far we've had the massaman curry, a red curry, the Hawaiian fried rice, the Hawaiian burger with pineapple rings, the Spam sliders, and two different chicken platters. For sides, the potato salad is simply not worth it. The french fries are standard crinkle fries and not anything to write home about. For main dishes, each of the curries were a Smash Hit. The Hawaiian fried rice was fine but lacked some of the oomph a traditional fried rice gets from the oil and sauce mix. The Spam sliders were as bad as you would think but a fun thing to say that we tried. The Hawaiian burger itself was fine and the burger was more substantial than we expected. Definitely a good buy for the money. However, the pineapple on top had gotten so warm that it ended up being basically tasteless. I would suggest ordering one of the other Burger options if you're looking for a burger. Again, the burgers were well priced and felt like a great value. The Asian food is easily the best thing on the menu and you'll find it on the chalkboard on the right hand side in the seating area. There isn't much to the interior restaurant. Five or six old school type of Diner booths in a half circle around the edge of the single room. You order at the front counter, and there's a sauces station on one side so you can get as much of the different sweet sauces as you want. Overall, this is a place that we visit when we can't figure out where else to go. It's not a place for special events but it is a good place for a clean environment to eat fairly priced food.

Yelp
Overall pretty tasty & good service! The aloha pad Thai had great flavor. Chicken katsu was perfectly crispy but definitely needed some sauce for better flavor.

Luz C.

Yelp
The management is ass the lady that responds to the phone does not understand nothing useless they need someone that speaks clearly and understand what customers are asking for ,

Tiffany T.

Yelp
With a counter to order from and a few tables for indoor dining, I was unsure of what to expect but the steady stream of delivery drivers coming to pick up food indicated that this was a popular spot. The sauce was well seasoned and the macaroni salad was refreshing instead of heavy like some places. I got the garlic shrimp, and at my previous Hawaiian food spot I always had to peel the shrimp but this place has it pre-peeled which I prefer because then the sauce is on the actual meat instead of shell. They have Thai food items as well so I'll have to come back and try more things.

Cameron T.

Yelp
I lived in Hawaii for years. This place has authentic Hawaiian plate lunches! I love it. Highly recommend!!!

Hebrew W.

Yelp
Very good Hawaiian style food here. Very flavorful and tasty. I've never been to Hawaii so I can't compare it to anything but I will say it's top 5. The service is great. The staff is friendly. This place has been around for a long time. Looks a little old inside but it works.

Venus M.

Yelp
Omg. Born n raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. I was so excited to try the Hawaiian restaurant out. I had the BBQ combo plate and my hubby got the Kailua Pork. Short ribs were ok, the beef tasted old. Chicken was dry. And why is there red food coloring in the meats? Cabbage on the bottom was cooked and oily/greasy. Cabbage is supposed to be raw and shredded...to soaked up with the meat juices which was not even present. My husband's Kailua pork was sweet. It's not supposed to be sweet at all. Weird tasting. No Aloha flavors at all. I tasted Thai flavors in their dishes. Apparently the owners are Thai. We also ordered Manapuas. Not authentic. Meat was light brown, bread crusty...They buy it prepackaged and just warm it up on the oven in front. Restaurant was oddly quiet, no music playing. Even the macoroni salad didn't taste right. Too sweet!

Christina N.

Yelp
I called to place a pickup order at 7:30pm. I really wanted a Hawaiian BBQ combo plate but the lady over the phone said that they only had the BBQ chicken left so I went with that. I ordered two, one for me and one for my boyfriend. Side of rice and side of macaroni salad comes with it or you can substitute mashed potatoes or French fries per the online menu. They said to come in before they closed at 8. I was a little surprised because everywhere online said closed at 9. Good thing I called at the time I did so I would recommend calling to place your order so you don't get there bd they're closed. Maybe it's covid hours but I didn't see any signs when I pulled up. My order was ready when I got there about 15 minutes later and I brought it home with me. I thought it was good, I definitely want to go back for the combo plate because I just think I'll like it better. Overall good experience minus not having the item I wanted and the confusion about the business hours.

Christine G.

Yelp
Since I've never been to Hawaii, my standards of a good Hawaiian BBQ came from all the Hawaiian restaurants that I've been to in California. When I first went to Aloha Hawaiian BBQ all the way back in 2015, all I remembered was that I am not a big fan. Fast forward to 2020, my coworkers and I decided to order at Aloha for lunch. They told me that their macaroni salad and their food is better than L&L. So I decided to give this restaurant another try. I ordered the Shrimp and Chicken BBQ combo with Macaroni Salad (of course). I was surprised to see that the chicken bbq has a reddish flavor. It was dry and not flavorful. The fried shrimps were Breaded and I liked the breading, however it seems that they were over cooked and dry. Compared the the chicken bbq, the shrimp has more flavor in it. The Macaroni Salad was a different issue. Just like what my coworkers told me, it was good and has a lot of flavor. The only thing that I didn't like was that it wasn't cold. For me, Macaroni Salad should be served cold and not room temperature. I'm not sure if I will ever be back.

Tay H.

Yelp
Food was so good!! I cleaned the plate! I will definitely be back, the kalbi shorts ribs are a 10/10 and a 20 with the katsu sauce!

Dottie F.

Yelp
This place sticks out thanks to the sign and palm trees outside. This place doesn't disappoint when it comes trying something out of the ordinary! You must try the short ribs! I would stick to the rice! The Mac salad is a traditional Hawaiian side but this one lacked flavor. I had the mixed plate which condor chicken, sliced beef and short ribs.

KaRon V.

Yelp
To start, this spot is a pretty refreshing and respectable spot for some Hawaiian BBQ In the area. What I will note is that the prices were a tad bit high when you consider some dishes like the Spam Musubi & Spam Moco were set at $11.95 and the portions were small. The food was pretty good but not worth a second visit. To conclude, the A/C was struggling to say the least and while in the restroom I encountered Roland The Roach

Kim D.

Yelp
This place has been around for FOREVER & for good reason, they are always good, reliable and delicious! I always love the combo plates & their Thai tea!! That macaroni salad.. yummmm

Hannah B.

Yelp
I've ate here several times just for the meat on the Hawaiian bbq plate and macaroni salad. However, the rice is always so mushy and not good. We have ordered Togo several times too and the same things has happened. The drinks are so good and the feel of the restaurant is awesome. I wish they would fix the rice situation and I would eat there more often. Service is slow to get your food but it's made to order so I will wait as long as I have to.

Skyler N.

Yelp
Food was good but can be way better. Rice was slightly dry but the breaded chicken was good.

Casiana O.

Yelp
We ordered 2 chicken katsu plates to go and honestly, was pretty disappointed. We're from San Diego and Hawaiian bbq is pricy but so worth it there. This - this was not it. Very small portions. Chicken was dry. The mac salad was just sad. It could have been better. We drenched our plate in katsu sauce and it made it 3x better.

Nina D.

Yelp
Still good food. Ate here with the fam over the weekend and fed 7 of us a little under $100. Although, customer service is lacking, I still like their food.

John M.

Yelp
I am enjoying the Hawaiian BBQ Mix at Aloha Hawaiian BBQ in Virginia Beach! Kali Short Ribs, BBQ Beef, and BBQ Chicken makes an excellent combination tray with macaroni salad and rice. If you're looking for tender meat that's delicious with a dabble of sweetness, then this casual take out place is the spot. You can also eat in and enjoy the Hawaiian themed vibe as you eat inside!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
The food wasn't that good and me and my friend both got sick after eating there..:( The Hawaiian iced coffee was too sweet as well.

Bunny J.

Yelp
One of my favorite places wish I could spend everyday here the food is just absolutely amazing

Cindee P.

Yelp
Ono! My daughter and I shared the Crispy Shrimp & BBQ Chicken Combo. The chicken was nice and tender. The Shrimp was Crispy to perfection. The mac salad was nice and creamy. We also shared an Aloha Tea. It was really sweet and it tasted like a lighter Thai Tea. I got an order of Spam Musubi, you can't get that wrong! Don't forget the sauces!! There is Teriyaki, Kalbi & Katsu. Sriracha bottles are conveniently available on the tables. From the outside it looks like there isn't enough seating, but there is a back room that has plenty of booths to enjoy your meal. This is one of my sister and her husband's favorite places to eat, so she took the Ohana here for our last meal in Virginia before we parted ways to drive back to Florida. We might have to go back every time we visit.

Anjelic B.

Yelp
It was pretty good. Customer service was kinda mid but the wait time wasn't horrible and the prices are decent. The tea is good too, a bit sweet. But good.

Angelina B.

Yelp
The food is always amazing here and perfectly priced. The service is extremely quick and there is a nice and pleasant seating area.

Judith M.

Yelp
Went there about two weeks ago and within my 15 minute stay we saw THREE roaches! My bf even stepped on one and killed it! One was crawling on the counter another came out of the ac vent and another was just crawling along the floor! I will NEVER go there ever again! The place is nasty

Tinisha B.

Yelp
I recommend the beef short ribs and the Hawaiian fried rice. They have a signature sauce that you can put on everything. Of it wasn't for the sauce the god just isn't that appealing. My sun was expecting it to be a very flavorful experience and he felt completely defeated. He ordered the chicken with mashed potatoes n gravy. He didn't care for it at all. Again I like the beef kalbi and Hawaiian fried rice.

Cat G.

Yelp
If you're missing the taste of Hawaii, or just want to check it out, this is the place to go! Lived in Hawaii for 2.5 years and this place brought me right back!! Excellent, doesn't even begin to describe the food and atmosphere....GO!

Alana-Malia T.

Yelp
Being born as raised in Hawai'i, I can honestly say the food here is definitely no where near what it's like back home. This is definitely not authentic Hawaiian Bar-B-Q. Like one reviewer mentioned, why does the meats have a red color to it? It should should look a deep brown with hints of charcoal from the grilling. Definitely too sweet as well. If we had to choose between here and L&L's, L&L's would take the cake.

Chris J.

Yelp
Have come back multiple times and every time is consistently great. The most authentic Hawaiian food you could find over here in VB in my opinion. Owners and staff are constantly great and it's always clean and welcoming. Love coming to eat here, such a comfort go-to!

Michael R.

Yelp
It's only 4500+ miles away. I was flying home soon and decided to try this place. It doesn't seem to be in the greatest of areas but it stands out with the little tiki design hut and Aloha sign. The cuisine consist of Hawaiian and Thai dishes. Not unusual for me, since the island is well diverse but might sound funny to a few people. Now my friend Terry K. (Hi Terry!!) reminds me that if I want good Hawaiian food, I have to get it in Hawaii. Well sometimes you don't have a choice so here goes. I was excited to try the food and saw lau lau on the menu. Unfortunately it wasn't available. I came late in the day and I don't think it's cost effective for them to make a lot so I understood. I was going to get the katsu but I already had chicken. You read the Wild Wings Cafe review right? The room can be deceptively small but there is a back area with plenty of room. Outdoor seating is available weather permitting. I got the Hawaiian staple of kalbi with the standard sides of white rice, toss salad, and mac. Rice ok, a little wet but not too bad. Toss salad was good. I like the pineapple slice they gave. And yes followers I don't like pineapple but the dressing they used was fine. The mac was bland but a little salt fixed it. And the Kalbi not bad. It was a little tough but had good flavors and I always like the char a BBQ makes. This reminded me of home a little more. Overall three stars. Food average but lack of Hawaii drinks like orange bang or Lilikoi hurt their rating. Now excuse me, I'm off to find haupai pie before my flight. M

Charissa C.

Yelp
So flavorful but a tiny bit salty. The Mac salad is crack. I had the Kahlua pork. Sooo incredibly flavorful

Will P.

Yelp
The only reason why this is a ***3*** star review is the fact that you see 2 older women in the back working hard pushing out great food. The beef is OK, having a little rubber texture to it, but the rest is not bad at all. This is one of those places where you pick up your food and go. The interior still looked the same when I walked in there in 2010. Also, I feel as if the seats are not wiped down. The one thing that gets me is the middle-aged man who works the cashier. He is very disrespectful. When ordering, he does not let you finish. It like you are annoying him by being there. If they don't have a specific drink there, he ask you to walk to Food Lion to get it. What is that about? He doesn't want to offer a replacement drink.

Joseph A.

Yelp
Let's forget about the fact that the shrimp kabobs consisted of undercooked shrimp that still had their veins, and they were full of fecal matter. Let's also forget the fact that the "shortribs" were sliced thin before cooking, and were tough and rubbery. Totally inedible in my opinion. The meat should fall off the bone. Extremely disappointing. They actually seem to sell more Thai food, as everyone else was eating noodles. Forget about the unsatisfying food. Let's focus instead on the unwelcoming vibes emanating from the young lady behind the counter. She was short, terse, and just downright rude. When we complained about the raw shrimp, she rolled her eyes and asked "so what do you want? Another meal? We turned down that offer, as we really just wanted to escape the negativity that dripped off of the walls of this place. She briskly walked away from us, with a look of disdain on her face. She never said sorry about the poop in the raw shrimp. nothing gave me the impression that she really gave a damn. Just plain rude. While Hawaiian style fare doesn't seem to be their passion, poor customer service is the Specialty of the house. I would never go there again. Never.

Chanel T.

Yelp
Went here and wanted to try the lua lua but they were out so I tried the kalua pork lunch combo and the manapua pork bun. The kalua pork came with cabbage and onion and soy/teriyaki sauce with side of rice and choice of macaroni salad or mashed potatoes. It was pretty good I just wish they hadn't put so much sauce on the pork and cabbage. The pork bun was good and the filling had a sweet taste to it. It is kinda similar to siopao bun but sweeter and no sliced egg.
