Poke has hit the USA!!! Or at least mainland in Chicago! Aloha Poke is a fast casual create your own seafood bowl. It's menu is basic and it's relatively healthy. You pick your size, choose your base (white rice, brown rice, or greens), choose your poke (salmon, tuna, or tofu), and choose your toppings. It's much like Chipotle, but without the norovirus...Fingers crossed. Here's a tip, everything is customizable.
I will admit that this is the only poke I have ever had as I have not tried Firefin Poke. But I have had Aloha Poke many times as I eat at the one in the Revival Food Hall quite a bit. I think Aloha Poke has very fresh ingredients, great flavor, and the poke is very thick. The place on Belmont is very small as it only seats about 8 people. The employees were nice, but there isn't much to say about service as this place is fast casual.
I got the Big Kahuna bowl with a mix of brown rice and greens, naked salmon, and the volcano mix, which is my favorite combination. You can choose a preset combination or create your own. I like spicy food and the volcano sauce and jalapenos pack a decent punch.
I will admit that I think the bowl sizes and the prices are off and it's probably not that authentic. But it is still pretty good. But why should you pay $5 more for a 24oz for the Kahuna over a 16oz when it's $2 more for an 8oz to 16oz? I'm a bigger guy with a big stomach (5'10", 200 lbs) and I feel that an 8oz is not that filling and a 24oz is too big. So I would recommend a 12oz, 16oz, and 20oz with fixed dollar increment increases. Other than that I enjoy Aloha Poke when I am craving something relatively healthy and fresh.
