"Last year, Friendship Kitchen and Stem Wine Bar co-owners Trang and wife Wei-En served bánh tét at Alouette — their French restaurant which they have since converted to a second location of Friendship Kitchen — as part of a Lunar New Year prix fixe meal." - Janey Wong

"Alouette is an elegant-yet-approachable French bistro nestled on a neighborly corner of Nob Hill, serving dishes with French techniques and touches of Vietnamese flavor and flair — a nod to the complicated historical connection that the two countries once shared. Expect to find traditional French dishes like Duck à l’orange (orange-infused roast duck) and pommes de terre Lyonnaise (boiled and shallow-fried potatoes), along with modern American classics that get a splash of Vietnamese seasonings. Steamed mussels arrive in a bath of coconut milk and lemongrass broth, while the kitchen dresses various appetizers in a medley of fresh Vietnamese herbs. Although the dinner menu leans heavily French, Alouette’s weekend brunch, a collaboration with Friendship Kitchen, provides more Vietnamese comfort foods like phó and bánh xeo (savory crepes)." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden, Katrina Yentch

"A modern bistro with heavy French influences, Alouette will serve small and larger plates like butter-braised brassicas, beef fat pomme frites, and hangar steak in vadouvan-spiced butter along with cocktails and wines by the glass. Alouette doesn’t seek to evoke a particular style of French dining, but will reflect the kind of cooking that Lam grew up with and the food she makes at home, including vinaigrettes she learned to make from her aunt. 'It’s not Parisian French or Basque French,' Lam says, 'it’s what I would make in my kitchen.' Most important to the team is that Alouette serves the neighborhood and its needs as a classic bistro — a place where diners can stop in to share some snacks and a drink before heading out for the evening, as well as for couples looking for a full meal or even just a glass or two of wine. To facilitate that kind of casual dining atmosphere, the menu will be broken into smaller dishes that can play with one another. Visitors can mix and match dishes and sample from an assortment of small plates to pair with wines. Tan will initially run the wine program — unsurprisingly for a French-style bistro, it will draw largely from France, but with a strong Oregon presence as well. According to Tan, the wine list will emphasize female and non-binary makers and producers. Cocktails, too, will draw from local sources, including nearby distilleries like Freeland Spirits, and Tan tapped bartender Ashley Iler Burson, of vegan Southern restaurant South X Northwest to run the drink program." - Alex Frane

Alouette never fails to amaze. I had the coulotte with crostini and chicken liver pate and it was incroyable! Small but constantly changing menu gives you a fresh experience every time but you come to trust the staff and chefs more and more with each visit. Stellar presentation and the Wing Over signature cocktail was delish. If it isn't obvious from this review so far I will be going back to see what new culinary treasures await. Thanks Alouette for the birthday dessert without all the singing and fanfare. You all are the best. Thomas was and always is a delight.

If there was an option to give a trillion stars to Alouette, I'd give them all of the stars in a heartbeat! I had a Friendship Kitchen + Alouette Sunday brunch and it was perfect in every way! The sizzling beef (bò né) was especially tender and delish. I've been searching far and high for a spot in Portland that serves Vietnamese sizzling beef and Alouette + FK brought back those nostalgic flavors. The pot au feu feels like a big warm hug in a bowl! The beef carpaccio was luxurious and addictive! Their cocktails are just as fun and delish. Plus, the crew here are the sweetest people ever! A win win.

Fantastic! My fiance-now-wife came here after our elopement for an intimate and lovely dinner. The service was amazing and the food was delicious! Our server Thomas was so kind and brought us some ice cream and champagne to celebrate. I would love to come here again, thank you Alouette.

Fantastic new spot, 10/10 recommend giving Alouette a try. Intimidate setting, beautiful & colorful inside, flavorful menu & drinks. Great for a date or dinner with a close friend. Yum, just yummmmm!! We probably tried half the menu, favorite dishes were the scalloped potato's & the crudo. Both dishes that leave you wanting to lick the plate... not kidding. Definitely a place where you'll want to share & try everything, so bring a friend and go all out.

We had such an amazing brunch date!! This space is SUCH A VIBE!! 😍😍 So adorable and cozy! The food was bomb, my favorite was the sizzling beef! Our server was so kind and even gave us the recommendation of making the sizzling beef into a little sandwich with the yummy piece of bread that comes with it! (She was right, it made it even better!!) I can’t wait to go back for dinner soon!

Google
Very delicious food! We had oysters, brussel sprouts, steak and carrots. Everything was yummy! Only oysters were ok, Carrots with burrata cheese and crunchy green . . . So good!!! Thomas was super friendly! Highly recommend this place! Now it's time to come back for their brunch!

Alouette, Je vous aimerai toujours!!! We have visited for dinner and brunch. Both experiences have been absolutely lovely. Service on both visits was friendly, knowledgable and welcoming from all of the staff. We had a delightful welcome from Trang, one of the lovely ladies who own the restaurant. Ambiance is art forward and sexy, perfect for dates or smaller, intimate groups. The Vietnamese-French fusion menus are completely unique in Portland. For brunch, I highly recommend the Pommes Pave, Fruit & Beet Parfait and Avo Toast (they will kindly hold the bacon). Every dish is an authentic work of art!

Google
I won’t bother with posting food pics because all the other reviewers have done a great job with that already, instead I’ll tell you about it. We had several of the plates. You have to keep in mind this is a restaurant that serves “tapas” styled dishes, so if you’re hungry or a big eater (like me) you’ll have to graze on a few dishes to satisfy that lion in you. But that’s ok because the food here is great. We had the duck, the skirt steak, the octopus, pomme frites and the peach salad. Our favorite was the duck (yum! delicious!). The pomme frites also did not disappoint. Very very soft and perfectly fried; although I could have lived with a little less salt on them, still they were wonderful and they are the most filling of all the dishes. We ended up getting 2 orders of pomme frites and a second duck dish. The peach salad is also a great addition as it will combine excellently with any of the other dishes. The beef skirt dish was good too although not as memorable as the others. And the octopus was good although I really really think they should add a few more pieces of the sea creature to the standard serving. That into account, I’d still say this restaurant is a great place to visit because they get it right on many points, including the atmosphere inside and outside. We sat out on the front patio and we’re delighted, but could also tell on arrival that the atmosphere inside was also captivating. The servers were also attentive, very professional, efficient and friendly. We had a 4yo child with us and they made us feel welcomed and comfortable. And my wife eats Gluten Free and was able to eat quite a few of the dishes here. So all in all, a great experience and a culinary delight.

Yelp
Wonderful, unique French food with Asian influence. I had the scallops and they were large so I only needed 3, and they we perfectly grilled. my sister had the carrots 3 ways, and she was impressed with the dish. my Husband had the mussels in coconut milk. For dessert we had the coconut Panna Cotta a nd it was delicious. I can't wait to go back, as it is now on my list of favorite Portland restaurants.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant for brunch around a month ago and when I finally remembered to do a review, I find out that it's closed! Nonetheless, I wanted to write something--anything, even if brief--as I feel like it has received a bad final few reviews. While service was very slow and not great, I thought the food was a fun twist on the Vietnamese-French relationship. It balances the tastes of each cuisine and I thoroughly believe they were very careful in their representation of Vietnamese culture. At one point I asked for 'soy sauce' (it's what we call in Vietnamese 'soy sauce', but not what would be considered 'soy sauce' when buying at a supermarket), and they brought out exactly the seasoning I was looking for! Bread was good and the portions were reasonable. I truly hope they re-open or open a new, similar restaurant soon! (I heard the restaurant website has been rebranded to 'Saigon to Singapore'!)

Yelp
What a charming French restaurant! An absolute Gem! Loved everything about Alouette - the location in a NW neighborhood; the friendly, unpretentious service; the incredibly delicious food; and the quaint yet charming interior. I can't wait to go back and I just left! They have a very nice wine selection, and Thomas, our waiter, helped me pick out a glass based on my preferences. It was so good, I had three! Don't judge. We shared the heirloom carrots three ways over burrata as an appetizer and it was delicious. The carrots were roasted and carmelized and had so much flavor on their own. Served with a pesto on the side and over creamy burrata topped with fried carrot tops, this could easily have been a satisfying main course. Perfect for a vegetarian. For dinner I had the scallops. The three large scallops were sweet, carmelized and perfectly cooked. They melted in my mouth. Two were filling enough but no sense taking one home as they don't reheat well so I indulged. Served along side of puréed cauliflower and roasted broccolini, it was very filling and so satisfying. I could live off those scallops! My friend had the steak which was tender and delicious. The serving size was quite large and she took half home. It came with two slices of toasted baguette with chicken liver mousse which she loved. It was not crowded so we were able to take our time and even enjoy a post dinner glass of wine. We were never rushed; just the opposite, everyone on staff made us feel so welcomed. The menu changes frequently as they cook what's in season. They also serve brunch. They no longer have the Vietnamese influence that was courtesy of a different restaurant, but don't worry, everything is divine. Highly recommend for date night, dinner with friends or any permutation. Just go!

Yelp
Okay, I was really looking forward to eating here because we don't have anything like this area the area yet and they used to only do brunch on Sundays, which I typically work. I give the food 3 stars and the service 5. Our server was very nice and friendly and accommodated my 3 year old very well. It's quite a small and intimate restaurant so our table of 5 actually took up quite a bit of the restaurant. Now, onto the food. We ordered 6 dishes total (2 sizzling beef) and out of the 5 things, the egg rolls and beef carpaccio are ones I recommend. The crepe was not near crispy enough and it was way too thick and small for the price. The sizzling beef didn't have as much pate as I would have liked and it was not tender at all, even though it was supposed to be tenderloin. The egg rolls were very good. I really loved the taro in there. The pot au feu, which is like a Bo kho, had good flavor but a little too basic for the price. We all loved the beef carpaccio! It's actually one of me and my husband's favorite dishes and we always order it when we see it on any menu. It's called bo tai chanh on viet menus. I feel like every place tweaks it their own way a bit and we really like this one. I probably won't come back for the brunch, but I will be back to try the dinner menu. I think parking is street parking but there's a lot of spots for Sunday brunch.

Yelp
My friend had heard about this place and wanted to try it. Alouette is a classic French restaurant with a Vietnamese twist. Oh la la! Alouette was delicious! The service was excellent! The cocktails were well-balanced! Oh...and the food was so yummy and comforting. We started with the raw oysters served with the traditional mignonette sauce, but it was the Nuoc Cham (fish sauce based) that gave it a SE Asian twist. Umami! They were extra special. We also enjoyed the olives. So good! The cocktail program is very creative. I enjoyed the "Wing Over" cocktail made with bubbly, brandy, bourbon barreled gin, creme de cassis, and orange. My friends enjoyed the beers and wine. For our main course, we each ordered the steamed mussels in coconut milk with lemongrass and white wine with an extra baguette. We even ordered another bowl as we could not get enough of this magnificent dish. We also enjoyed the melt in your mouth seared scallops with broccolini and potato fennel apple puree. In addition, we enjoyed the veggie main dish, carrots, and a family style side dish. Everything was delicious, flavorful, and unique. We are still dreaming of our meal...Looking forward to returning next time we are in Portland!

Yelp
I've heard so many wonderful things about this place and took some girlfriends here for a girls brunch on a Saturday (make sure to make reservations!) We got there right when they opened so we were seated right away at the table by the door. Like other mentioned, this place is cute and cozy inside with their decor and wall color - super fun! The service was friendly and we got our drink and food orders in right away. I want to be super understanding of the unforeseen circumstances for this small business such as staff shortage and training new kitchen staff etc - with that said, the lychee drink came first after a good 20 minutes, and my passion fruit mimosa came another 10 minutes after that, and maybe another 10 minutes the Vietnamese coffee came out. All tasted great but the timing is a little off for sure. Now the food is where it really shines! Everything was hot and crispy when it came to the table. The egg rolls were my favorite (and I can't believe it's made with impossible meat!) the shaking beef came with 2 eggs and a fluffy baguette to dip, the Vietnamese crepe (Bun Xeo) was flavorful. The only hiccup was that there were 2 mix ups with the food going to the right table, we got a free bowl of pho bc it was already set down even though we ordered the Pot Au Feu (which we also got a little later) then another time the sever tried to set down a Vietnamese omelette but luckily we caught that before it was on the table. Staff seemed a little confused about the order and where they are supposed to go. The owners came in while we were there and apologized and thanked us and asked us what else we needed. Again I know there must be some background struggles that we don't see so I appreciated their attentiveness. Please give this small business a try and support them!

Yelp
Part of the Friendship Kitchen, Alouette serves a contemporary take on Viet-French food. They offer special menus on weekends, New Year and other occasions celebrated in all three cultures (American, French and Vietnamese). The decor is beautiful and the ambiance is charming. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service! They have a huge wine list and offer a full bar. We tried a few of the specialty drink and food items from their special New Year menu and can attest to how delicious they were. The items in the drink menu, "Hennything Is Possible" and "Friends With Benefits" were perfectly made, served chilled and were yummy. From their Viet-French menu we tried Impossible Egg Rolls, Beef Carpaccio, Chicken Ragout, Vietnamese Pho and Sizzling Beef All were delicious... some of the best fusion dishes we've had in years! If you like Vietnamese and/or fusion food, you've got to try Alouette's Viet-French menus.

Yelp
This cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, very welcoming and charming. we made a reservation just to guarantee our seating time and the hostesses were very spot on. i walked into a cozy cafe on a fake spring weekend morning in portland. the aromas of the dishes coming out, the smiles on the faces of the bar tender and the server drew me in and made me feel welcomed and settled immediately. they were very accommodating of our seat preference by the window and made sure we felt comfortable against the walls of their embrace. i am a big interior design junkie and absolutely loved the artwork and chandeliers on full display throughout the cafe, i'd say the only thing missing is some plants to add an extra squeeze of life. but the thistles and seasonal floral arrangements on each table will suffice. for starters we had a gin cocktail recommended to us by Coral, and we could see, feel and taste the detailed attention to crafting a cocktail. the menu is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. the French-Vietnamese fusion left a lot to be desired. we settled on the avocado toast and pommes pavé for our saturday brunch items. both had the most perfect runny eggs (over east and poached respectively) that cracked over all the other ingredients on the plate. these items were perfect to share and man were they both good! Alouette on Thurman meets an elite standard by which you judge all other restaurants. The staff is always ready to help, the premises are extremely clean, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is both delicious and beautifully presented.

Yelp
Came here for date night with my boyfriend. This restaurant is located in a charming neighborhood near downtown Portland. Upon entering, I noticed the classy and intimate atmosphere of the space which was great. We went sunday night which is during their kitchen takeover collaboration with friendship kitchen (happens every sunday) where their chefs create viet-french fushion cuisine. We got their egg rolls to our dinner. Inside, these were filled with bean sprouts, beyond meat and taro with a side of chili sauce for dipping. The blend of the ingredients created a crunchy exterior with a very smooth inside. For entrees, I got their shrimp which has a slicy mayo sauce. These were very good but I wish they were peeled so the flavor would soak into the shrimp, the light char on the peel was a nice touch. My boyfriend got their steak with peppers which was good also. The items on the menu is on the smaller side so be sure to order more if you are hungry. Our waitress was great and made sure our needs were met. Overall - Glad I found this spot in Portland. Great service and food but dishes are on the small side. Space and atmosphere perfect for date nights.

Yelp
This French restaurant has Vietnamese twists and flair. We had a very nice meal, started with an original and tasty "Snap-Up" cocktail! We ordered their Trout and Scallop entrées. The bread pudding was an excellent dessert! We will be back!

Rachel B.

Yelp
This place is a unique gem! I was feeling like eating something on the lighter side, so I ordered the Vietnamese tofu salad. It was incredible! It was so simple, and yet so tasty and filling -- not your boring, basic salad despite its simplicity. Tofu was perfectly fried and they put a lot of it on there! Every time I stuck my fork in I found another prize of tofu underneath the cabbage. Lol Service was great, and the ambiance was like a cozy French cafe. Highly recommend!

Chrystal F.

Yelp
My son and I went to Portland and he said "Let's try French food" This spot was lovely and calm, easy to find parking on a Saturday evening, and they were so attentive. The plates sat empty for a micro second before being removed from the table and they replenished our water often. The steak is to die for, and my son loved his trout. The warm baguette and butter and creme Brule! (Chef's kiss). I'm dreaming of that steak...

Angelica A.

Yelp
Came to Alouette for the first time - on a sunny Saturday evening. The inside decor is cute, however there is no AC and it is really hot. Not somewhere super intimate for a date - only two small tables in the middle and booths surrounding. The menu is intended to be shared - so we ordered it all minus the fries and asparagus dish. We also ordered two cocktails which were refreshing and delicious. The trout and Brussel Sprout and cabbage dish - were the star of the show. The flavors were out of this world! The rest was so so. Our waitress was super nice but she seemed uncomfortable. Perhaps she was newer - but there was another woman working whom was watching her every move. Hard to say what that entailed. All in all - probably won't return as I prefer Le Pigeon and there food and more extensive menu. But definitely worth trying!

Brittany B.

Yelp
More than disappointed with our New Year's Eve dinner. First off, no where on the website or when we made our reservation did it say that we would be getting a pre fixe menu. This review would be three pages, but let's make a long story short. Food was under seasoned, entree was served cold, crust on dessert was burned, second and third course were essentially the same (both topped with undressed arugula straight from the bag)... all plates lacked imagination. The only stand out was the seared scallops with beurre blanc made with xantham gum. Also a neighborhood French bistro there should be a firm grasp on how to make pomee purée and not serve lumpy cold mashed potatoes. I can go on and on, but service was also a mess. NOTHING ABOUT THE TOTAL DINING EXPERIENCE WAS WORTH $300 for two people. The the decor was the only saving grace to the night!

Treva E.

Yelp
My man and I loved our date night here!! Wonderful fabulous service. Good vibes. All of our food was incredible, just sort of small portions. I loved the mussels but only got 8 mussels for $25...I wanted like triple the amount haha. Scallop dish was divine. We loved the salad with the radishes and peanuts. We cannot wait to go back and treat ourselves!! I think our total bill was $110 with tip. Aaaaand we were still hungry but damn I loved the food.

Randall C.

Yelp
Unfortunately this once culinary delight has succumbed to the perils of post covid malaise for fine dining. We are passionate foodies with a francophile bias. On a Friday they were unable to deliver the entire compact menu. Wine list had interesting options but no cellar support, three different white burgundies with single bottles. Menu had interesting options but preparation was over sauced with flavors lacking depth/complexity. Staff was more interested in themselves vs serving customers.

Tiva F.

Yelp
What a lovely dinner we had here! Came for the wine and enjoyed every detail of the experience. It was a soft opening and every interaction we had makes me smile. We tried both Pinot Noirs and a Zinfandel. Cannot imagine you can go wrong with any of these curated wines picked for the menu. The Tuna Crudo and Poulet Ragout w/ Baguette were our favorites!! I hope you'll have the chance to try these! The Hanger Steak was also very good. We'd like to return and see what's on the menu next time. I'm still dreaming about that Poulet Ragout...

Blue M.

Yelp
Really good food! You could definitely taste the quality of the ingredients. Service was nice..you didn't feel rushed. Ambiance was simple, casual and clean with a splash of classy. Their menu changes depending on seasonal produce. They can also make any dish vegan. Forgot to mention cocktails are delish!!! I look forward to returning.

Kamran F.

Yelp
French cousins comes with expectations and blame me if I set them high The food was lackluster without any innovative recipes The presentation was very poorly done The service was reasonable Will not recommend this place for a second visit

Juju D.

Yelp
I just got off the plane from Seattle and needed to find a nommy bistro. The restaurant is chic, modern with classic lines, and intimate. Btw it is BIPOC woman-owned. Service was professional and warm, very attentive. I ordered a non-alcoholic beverage that had a beet base with cinnamon/cardamom notes - slightly bitter. The kona kanpachi was to die for - buttery with citrus wedges and the perfect dash of salt crystals. I devoured the whole plate (I was dining alone). The mushroom medley and toast with a garlic spread was very nice. And, the trout was cooked to perfection with a yummy aioli. I can't wait to dine here again. Excellent French bistros are hard to come by.

Jen S.

Yelp
A friend recommended this place and she was spot on! Service was fabulous, ambience is great and food was wonderful. It's a little right in space, I think best for a party of two, 4 tops. They were simply lovely humans serving lovely food.

Marcia S.

Yelp
Nice space, good food - although out of most entrees when we arrived. Might be nice to have some of the brunch options available as late lighter meals? But all in all a very comfortable place.

Sonam S.

Yelp
Brunch by Alouette and Friendship Kitchen was amazing! The food was delicious and was a great representation of both French and Vietnamese cuisine. The ambiance was lovely, cozy and welcoming. The staff was very friendly, engaging, and attentive, including the owners, who came by our table many times to check in. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would highly recommend to others. Looking forward to going back again soon, and for future collaborations!

Vivi W.

Yelp
Wonderful experience at Alouette! We even played the kid song on the way to the restaurant. ;) The appetizers are tapas style, very small portions. Strongly recommend the asparagus with truffle vinaigrette. The main courses fish and steak are delightful. Very tasty like French bistro style, no pretentious, nice portion, just enough to make you want more. Now I'm curious to try their wine bar on the east side.

Joe B.

Yelp
We've eaten here three times and each time it gets worse. I wouldn't be driven to write a bad review if it wasn't so expensive. For nearly $100 a head, I expect a great meal with great service. So apologies if this feels snooty, I've eaten at many a restaurant. This is a French Vietnamese place where the food just isn't next level, but they're charging a lot. Not really French and not really Vietnamese... just in the middle with food that doesn't quite hit the mark. Steak that was just warm, not hot. Paired with chicken liver pate on crostini, too rich together. Can I get a side vegetable? A cheeseboard with no point of view on the cheese and no explanation of the cheeses. More fruit and crackers than actual cheese. A better-than-average wine selection, but champagne served flat... after she said she found one that hadn't gone flat. Pair that with an open door that let in all the bugs flying around and I'm like, This isn't fine dining but has fine-dining prices. I either wish they got more French or more Vietnamese. I'm not saying it's easy to run a restaurant, but I've eaten at many places where spending $200 for two people feels worth it. This isn't that place. Try St Jack for better French experience.

Amanda R.

Yelp
The first impression was great. Walking into a beautiful park like setting we were seated promptly (with reservation). It took quite a while before any wait service came to the table. We ordered drinks. When the drinks arrived we ordered an appetizer. The waitress asked if we were ready to order dinner. My wife said she'd like the scallops and the waitress turned and left. After about 10 minutes I was able to flag down the waitress and mentioned that she hadn't taken my dinner order. She said she thought the appetizer was for me and the scallops for my wife. I told her that I wanted scallops as well. About 5 minutes later the appetizer and 2 plates of scallops were delivered together. The food was all good quality but the service well below standard. I doubt we'll go again.

Karina M.

Yelp
Cheap interior, flies and bugs inside, service wasn't so great either. It seems like they were understaffed. Steak wasn't good. We reserved a table for a special occasion and no one even a acknowledge until we asked. Eventually we cancelled dessert because it took 30+ minutes. I wouldn't come back.

Tanya M.

Yelp
They are open for brunch once a week on Sunday. When you come in your are hit with pops of color and city vibe. The cocktail had a nice blend of fall flavors. The eggs and steak came with a side baguette which completed the dish. The waitress was super kind. We had a reservation so we got sat down quickly. Will be coming back for dinner menu!

Josephine L.

Yelp
The food was amazing and truly felt so decadent and creative. The restaurant does its best to be a no waste, and so we had a delicious taste of pesto made from carrot tops. My husband and I ordered the Brussel sprouts and steamed mussels, and both were absolutely delicious. The service was amazing. There was only a small wait for our bill due to how many parties were there and tables. But truly, the entire staff assisted one another beautifully to give an absolutely amazing experience. It was an interesting fusion that made it feel as though we traveled for our family date. It was definitely an amazing experience my family and I shared.

Laurie F.

Yelp
Tried this place last night for the first time. The location is so cute. Just a few blocks off bustling NW 23rd but very quiet/neighborhood feel on a tree-lined street. The food and service was outstanding. There were 4 of us so we ordered everything they had on the menu and revisited a few of our favs after we were done and still lounging. Highlights were the Trout + Corn, Salad, Beans, honestly everything was great. The wine is also very affordable for being specially curated. You can find very nice bottles for $35-$50 and so many options by-the-glass if you're not ready to commit. Would love to see some more shareable snacky options like cheese or charcuterie for munching while perusing the rest of the menu but overall this was an amazing experience and looking forward to going back again soon!

Larry B.

Yelp
Our first visit to Alouette was both good and disappointing. The restaurant location is really pleasant, quiet and very nice with the leafy trees overhead since we were seated outdoors. The interior is lovely and the colours and decor are beautiful. Attention has been paid to the atmosphere and it is unique and very well done. Our evening started with the Tailslide cocktail which was delicious and perfectly refreshing for a summer evening. We were told about it being the French version of tapas and that is what we had but I think although the food quality was good and it was well prepared they need to rethink how the food ordered is delivered to the customers. Our first dish was Tuna Crudo (superb flavor but too small amount for the cost!). We ordered a baguette and would liked to have had it delivered early in the meal to soak up the Tuna Crudo sauce but it never arrived until much later although it was nicely warmed when it came. The Provencal Rose was ordered but we waited quite a while for it to arrive. When the wine arrived it was the wrong wine - the next more expensive on the list at $60/bottle - our choice was $40/bottle. Good thing I was paying attention! Our choice was very good and the wine list is excellent with many choices and all served by the glass which is good. The Octopus a la pay Basque was nicely spiced and delicious. Salad Maison was very tasty. The Trout with lemon and lavender beurre monte was perfectly and prepared and presented! The fish was very fresh, well cooked and the sauce divine. A favorite! Finally our Pomme Frits arrived at the VERY END of the meal!! Good but late and did not arrive with one of the previous dishes. Why would this be the last thing to arrive? We enjoyed our visit to Alouette and will return but next time we will pay attention to asking for the food to arrive in an appropriate order such as the Hanger steak with the Pomme frits arriving together and the salad at the end of our meal because that's how we prefer it and hope Alouette will be willing to accommodate these requests. One last word is that our service was both good and not so good. Our server was a nice and helpful but missed the mark on a few things. Forks and knives were taken and new ones were supposed to arrive but never did. Wrong wine was presented. Room temperature water was given but never any question if anyone would like some ice. Water should at least be chilled a bit or ice offered without asking. Great addition to NW dining scene! Alouette is a classy casual restaurant but for the money spent we think it should provide a bit larger portions and pay more attention to sequencing the food delivery. I understand that we were told that food would be delivered when it as ready but I think this needs to be rethought a bit.

Yelp
My friends from the bay were in town and wanted to try somewhere we have never been, and we've been wanting to go so we decided to go to Alouette. First off, small but open dining room with three tables outside. We sat inside near the door and it was pleasant, especially for someone who hasn't dinned out a lot in the past couple of years....we had decided before we got there we were going to pretty much order the menu, minus the octopus(conscious objectors in the group), and the waiter said that's what they recommend for groups of 4 or more. Everything we got was amazing, from the bread and butter to the salmon to the asparagus, I would go back in a heartbeat and order it all for myself(albeit I'd be rolling out of there, it may look small but it was a lot of food).I felt that the price was great for the quality and quantity of food. If you're looking for a great place to impress friends or a date I would check this place out!

Yelp
The good news....the food is really yummy and the service is very sweet. On a rainy cold night, the pho was very welcome, hearty and tasty. We had the Pot au Feu with a rich tomato and red wine broth, beef and noodles and we had the Chicken Ragout. Although the ragout says it a stew, it's really a soup. Also tasty. We had the crepes as well and they were ok. The filling was falling out of the crispy crepe so you basically had to eat them separately. The two women at the front of the house were very pleasant and welcoming. The other stuff....While the atmosphere is very bistro feeling with a dimly lit (small) bar and jazz playing and pretty, rosy terracotta walls; they chandeliers are too bright and it creates a harsh light (in contrast to the walls) If they had a dimmer, it would go a really long way to create a much more pleasant atmosphere. Also, we asked for the crepes as a an appetizer, but they came out after the soups. Everything came out all at once and they had to pull an extra table over. It was a little awkward. Luckily the pho was really hot, so we traded places with the soups and ate the crepes. This is a really tiny thing but we asked if we could split the soups in the kitchen and they told us that no one spoke English in the kitchen so it would be hard to do....really? It seems like you could put 2 bowls out and write 1/2 on a sticky note and point to each bowl. Again, it's tiny but a little puzzling. Get a dimmer for the chandeliers....it will totally change the ambiance. It's a lovely date restaurant which will be enhanced if the lights are a little dimmer.

Yelp
So happy to have a little gem like this nearby! We had the salad, pomme frites, the chicken and steak. Everything was delicious including the wine! Look forward to coming back!

Yelp
Thank God this mediocrity closed. Food bad, service worse. I remember leaving a 1% tip. It was well earned.

Yelp
Love the soul in their tasty menu. The ambiance and the crowd is easy to vibe with and nothing overwhelming at all.

Yelp
We had such an amazing brunch date!! This space is SUCH A VIBE!! So adorable and cozy! The food was bomb, my favorite was the sizzling beef! Our server was so kind and even gave us the recommendation of making the sizzling beef into a little sandwich with the yummy piece of bread that comes with it! (She was right, it made it even better!!) I can't wait to go back for dinner soon!

Yelp
Incredible food, amazing vibes, and a great wine list. This is our favorite new neighborhood spot and I hope everyone can go and appreciate how amazing it is!!

Yelp
We love this charming neighborhood gem! The menu rotates but while you can, try the oysters, mussels, carrots ("fried" carrot tops and burrata.. incredible), trout, and coulette. Everything is good. Wonderful wines by the glass and cocktails (we love the snap up outdoors on a summer night).

Yelp
My favorite place for brunch and dinner. Exceptional service high quality food and sophisticated atmosphere. I grew up eating French food and their fusion of viet and French is delectable. I literally have dreams about the French toast before I go in for brunch, not too sweet. No one else in town does it like this. Bf enjoyed the Benedict. The bacon was thiccccccc. Sizzling beef is a dish u won't find elsewhere.pate dipped on French bread is a savory rich experience. Tried their new cocktail "lychee is for lovers" and it's dangerously good. Bf loved his passion fruit mimosa, not too much juice good ratio. Best part is they take reservations for brunch and a lot of places don't. Def treat ya self to a dinner or brunch experience here

Yelp
To Tiny portions, uninspired menu, uninformed waitress, expensive, and bland flavors on everything except the salad. Won't be returning.

Yelp
Underwhelming in almost every way. The good: my entrée, steamed mussels was seasoned to perfection, probably the best rendering of that dish I have ever had, however the portion was hors d'oeuvres sized making the price far beyond what would be reasonable. The wine pour was, I believe, 4 ounces and likewise a disappointing value. I'd most certainly order by the bottle (reasonably priced) if there was a next time. However, the baguette won the Marie Antoinette "Off-With-Their-Heads" award. Five small slices for $7 was insanely chintzy. On an odd baguette side-note, there was enough butter to, ahem, cover 40 bread slices @ 3" a slice. I did the math, honest I did! Speaking of 'odd', that's an apt word for the atmosphere. The structural aspect of the interior was such that there wasn't a single table that had the least degree of intimacy. Combining that with the echo chamber noise level ... well ... the service was good ... yes it was. We had reservations, but we certainly didn't need to have them as the place was sparsely populated.

Yelp
This was an accidental find for the wife and I, and we're so happy we found it. A touch on the pricey side, but great food and friendly service with a very neighborhood feel.

Yelp
This has everything to do with customer service and nothing to do with food, as we didn't even get to eat there. Had made reservations for the Saturday brunch, but less than a week before the reservation, I get an automated message saying the reservation has been cancelled with no explanation. I contact the restaurant and they explain that they could not get enough staff to open for brunch that day and offered a $10 gift card. That was great and understandable, but an initial explanation would be nice and I should not have to contact the restaurant to find this out. Was able to make a reservation for the following day, Mother's Day, for brunch, thinking it would be the same or similar menu as their Saturday brunch, which was the whole reason we were trying to eat at this restaurant. Over the next several days, I tried reaching out to them through text, IG, email, and phone to find out the menu, but no response. We showed up to our reservation to find out it was a completely different menu, so we promptly left and probably will not return. Just overall really negative experience with customer service.

Yelp
What a beautiful and romantic little restaurant with excellent food! We grabbed a same day reservation on the website, booked super easily for our anniversary. The place is tucked neatly into a neighborhood street which gives a cozy feel. The dining space is small so I do recommend booking a table before you arrive. I requested a booth, and was placed in one upon arrival. The clams were the best I have ever had, along with the beef short ribs topped with crispy salted kale and puffy potatoes, all cooked and seasoned to perfection. Their bread and butter appetizer is addicting, butter is house made next-level. I believe the desert we chose was chocolate ganache, it wasn't our favorite. The wait staff is wonderfully attentive and noticed we didn't eat much of the dessert- they kindly took it off our bill! Great service, food so excellent I can't wait to go back. We've decided this is our anniversary spot, so I may have to wait another year.. but I'm hoping to find my way back sooner ;)

Yelp
Sadly, this first time experience at Alouette is our last...but it isn't about the front of the house staff. Ambience was fine...warm and inviting. Service from our server was slow, but incredibly polite and I don't think it was she as much as the kitchen causing delays. We ordered a salad to split and shrimp skewer appetizer as appetizers...which took over 50 minutes to show up. Server came to us at 45 minutes to say kitchen had been overwhelmed because they are new, but was catching up. Salad with tofu was good. Bread was then brought. To me, if kitchen is behind, maybe bread comes out 10 min in vs 50? Shrimp was cooked well but lacked flavor. We were told there was no duck left, so ordered Beef Bourguignon and the "crepes", which was only one crepe full of bean sprouts and a teensy bit of chicken. Flavor of that was good, but this is absolutely an appetizer...not a $20 entree. Beef Bourguignon was a soup with five thumb size pieces of beef. Veggies (carrots snd mushrooms) were well cooked but beef was dry and scarce in this dish. Cake at the end was tasty. We were there over two hours, which was much too long and the staff knew it. Sadly, at the dnd, nothing was even comped as an apology for the experience. Crappy nights happen, but let your customers know you get it. Best of luck, but given some other reviews, this seems like the tile snd not the exception. UPDATE: I very much appreciate the prompt response and interest in my comment. I am upping my rating based on that and again how hard the staff was working. Appreciate it.

Yelp
Good food and beautiful decor and atmosphere! My highlight would have to be the scalloped potatoes and the baguette, which comes perfectly warmed. My only issue would be that some of the dishes were a bit salty for my liking, like the salade maison and braised brassicas. Would definitely recommend getting some extra bread to go with those. Overall still a good experience! Excited to see how alouette will flourish

Yelp
Placed in a perfect location, this restaurant's ambience is perfect! Be it a date night or just a place to hang and chat over good drinks this place is going to quickly become your favorite. The food is delicious and artistic. This intimate space also has the best staff.
