"I eat there once or twice a week for lunch from fall into spring, because it’s warmer, comforting food. They have a beautiful prepared-food section — you can get rice, a protein, and vegetables. They have really good okra and a yellow lentil soup that is really good, too. And you can buy really good spices there." - Maddy Sweitzer-Lamme

I recently had a disappointing experience with Al Rayan. The condition of their products was clearly compromised, suggesting poor storage practices. It’s evident that they do not prioritize proper handling, which affected the quality of what I purchased. I would advise others to be cautious and consider alternative stores to avoid similar issues.

We are very happy with the cashiers who work in the evenings. That's why we only go shopping in the evening time. But it closes before 11 pm every evening and when we arrive the doors are closed at 10:45pm. Because I leave work at 10:30pm.

Great place for Arabs to buy grocery from.Their halal meat and chicken are clean and fresh. They have cooked food sometimes, and it is delicious and inexpensive. Workers are helpful and nice.

I recently ordered food from Al-Rayan Kitchen, and I was extremely disappointed with my experience. First and foremost, the food arrived cold. It was clear that it had been sitting for a while before being delivered, which completely ruined the meal. When you order takeout, you expect the food to be hot and fresh, but that was not the case here. Additionally, the service was appalling. When I called to express my concerns about the cold food, I was met with rude and unhelpful responses. It felt like they didn’t care about my experience as a customer at all. Overall, I was very dissatisfied with both the quality of the food and the treatment I received. I won’t be ordering from Al-Rayan Kitchen again, and I can't recommend it to others.

Shame on you for cheating your customer. This afternoon of 03/11/2024 I bought ground beef. When I arrived home to cook it, I found out that ground beef is rotten. They put rotten beef inside a fresh one. they cover it up with a a layer of fresh meat, what a shame. I’ll make sure to make a formal complaint to health department

Just make sure you check the expiry date before picking up anything. The cheese I picked yesterday was expired in October (we’re in Dec now) and the one behind it expired this month.

Count out change before leaving the store, different cashiers do it occasionally "accidentally of course"

Meat is good but I didn't like the sweet Also the woman at the cashier is not friendly

Yelp
one of the cashiers is very flirtatious with the male customers, which is not only bad for business but upsets the significant others of these men. I've had a couple of unfortunately unpleasant encounters with this cashier as well. But other then that, AlRayyan is the only place I go to get all my essentials ..

Yelp
I've been buying my zabiha meat from here now. The store is so clean!!! The service is pretty good too, haven't had any issues. They have a lot of Middle Eastern staples as well as some Desi staples as well. Great prices for uncooked bulgar and couscous. They also have a lot of frozen pastry sheet options. Might try some of the homemade desserts they sell next time I go.

Yelp
I am so glad this place opened up! It's only been a week since they opened. The actual grocery part does not seem that big initially, but it connects with the restaurant part next door. This place is clean, nice to browse, and has a lot of inventory (I am so happy I even found Turkish simit!). They have fresh produce, a fair sized butcher section, prepared food, desserts, and of course a restaurant. In the front they have a nice display of traditional Middle Eastern tea sets and Islamic art (probably more highly priced, but these are nicely displayed). The services from the grocery and the restaurant were so nice. They wanted to gauge how things were and willing to help with a lot of questions. I tried the chicken shwarma platter and really liked it. The flavour was so fresh and not greasy (unlike the food truck variety). It's definitely more pricey than the food truck, but for this quality and flavour I will happily pay the extra. Yay to Alrayyan! Not to be dismissive of Makkah market, but Alrayyan is 10 steps upgrade from Makkah. I truly hope this place is successful!

Yelp
Alrayyan is a quaint little edition to the neighborhood that maybe lacked a fastfood Shawarma alternative. This review is for the food in take out form only. Pros: Service was great and friendly. I ordered a Shawarma platter and was eagerly greeted and taken care of right away. Food was plentiful - we received a massive amount of food for around 20 dollars (2 platters and a side of falafel). The rice, chicken and garlic sauce were fine and similar to food carts in quality (what we expected). Everything is served buffet-like style (food isn't made fresh except the chicken, which is cut fresh). The restaurant appeared very clean and comfortable. Cons: The food was generally okay. The vegetables were limp and the tabbouleh was somewhat flavorless. The pita came straight from a bag (I guess a lot do, but it wasn't warmed or anything, nbd). The falafels were actively bad and must have sat under the heat lamp for hours. I won't order those again. Conclusion: It's a fine quick stop on the way home and the friendly and inviting service will keep me coming back for a meal (2 meals, really) for under 10 bucks!

Yelp
This place is great. Huge assortment of foreign desserts that taste great and are reasonably priced. From the freshly prepared items, the basbousa is my personal favorite. Also has a large assortment of spices at some of the lowest prices I have seen in the city. Friendly staff and clean store.

Yelp
So a few months after this place has opened, and unfortunately the produce situation hasn't gotten much better. The produce is aged, and the selection of the produce that IS actually there is limited. I still can find different pastes and spices for cooking, but only if I don't need any other groceries to accompany those spices, which is rare, so I deal with going to Supremo and waiting in the often long lines. I really wished that I liked this store more! :(

Yelp
For someone who usually ends up catering desi food due to limited halal food catering options in the city, our experience with Alrayyan as an alternative to the "typical" options did not disappoint!!! We recently catered food for our daughter's birthday party from here - Taufiq was wonderful in helping us with the order and making sure we had more than enough food! The food was phenomenal, all our guests loved every item and any leftovers were grabbed up by guests to take home. The food was hot, fresh, and SO flavorful. Highly recommend their maklouba and roasted chicken! We also had hummus, tabouli salad, falafel and pita! We had MORE than enough food, very gracious portions and fair pricing. We look forward to working with them again. Make sure to visit their hot food section in the store to get a taste for everything the offer, it won't disappoint!

Yelp
Hands down my favorite spot in west Philly. I want to start with the friendly staff. The staff is the backbone of every business and this place has great people. I came her 3 times so far, I live a block away from here so I get some groceries and last time I was there I grabbed some dinner. I ordered shawarma platter and stuffed eggplants. I wish I wasn't so hungry and actually waited to take a picture before I devoured everything. The portions are SO generous. You're not only gonna get High quality food but also your moneys worth.

Yelp
Wow wow! Mashallah a beautiful store! They've been open for a few weeks now. I will definitely return. Large booths available for dining. Shawarma was tasty, although next time I will ask for garlic sauce inside the sandwich. They've got pretty much everything you can think of for middle eastern cooking. Desserts available too.

Yelp
Excellent raw and cooked lamb, they tastes sooooo good!!!! Friendly service and welcoming staff.

Yelp
Visited here tonight from quite a distance, looking for a very specific ethnic item. Upon browsing the aisles we were shocked to discover than almost four customers were walking and talking with no masks. No care in the world. The man behind the counter had his below the nose. When kindly asking him to let others know that masks should be worn, he relayed the message in real time except the patrons scoffed at him and walked right by us. Extremely disturbing. Beautiful store with a wide range of items we weren't able to look into because we were that uncomfortable. I'm sorry to say they aren't following any protocols whatsoever- major bummer.

Yelp
Yes to desserts but no to food: My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich and some pistachio baklava. The baklava was REALLY good. I will definitely be going back for dessert. The chicken shawarma was mediocre to be honest. The guy asked if we wanted it spicy (which we did of course), and he gave us garlic sauce on it as well. He said there would be vegetables, but there were a few onions and pieces of tomatoes. The chicken was not as flavorful as I expected it to be, and there wasn't enough sauce so it was very dry and bland. I normally love French fries in my food, but I don't think it worked for the shawarma because it made it even more dry and bland. I brought it home and couldn't even finish my sandwich. Maybe some of their other food dishes are better, but I know I won't be getting the chicken shawarma sandwich again.

Yelp
The selection is wonderful for all your middle eastern needs The owners are kind the the products rotate as they are a busy market. The MEATS are GREAT and priced below Supermarket costs. FRESH and Humanely treated as is the Halal way. If you want good LAMB I recommend this place! 1 caveat They do burn A LOT of incense so if you're sensitive go after morning prayers...

Yelp
Very modern, organized place. I enjoy going there since it's so clean. I find that Makkah market has more options and better prices but you would enjoy shopping here more..

Yelp
A great addition to the community right off Penn's campus. They've got a little area where you can get prepared food and it's pretty good. The staff was incredibly kind in helping me pick something I'd like and spent time to explain things I didn't know. Ended up getting one of the shawarma chicken sandwiches and it was good. I'd say not a ton of flavor depth to it - but it'd definitely be a good lunch if you're walking in the area. I also got the lentil soup which again - wasn't incredibly complex, but paired well with the chicken shawarma sandwich.

Yelp
This is the newer more spacious Middle Eastern grocery store in my neighborhood. Around the corner is the place I always shopped and got good service for years. The problem at Alrayyan is BAD SERVICE. I've given this place three chances in the past three months - always rudeness and bad service. Maybe because I don't look Middle Eastern or speak Arabic ... who knows? I asked simple questions like "what kind of pita bread do you carry?" Won't answer the question ... just a pointing gesture and "they're over there." Waited and waited at the hot food counter - no one would serve me even though it was slow at 3 PM on Oct. 16th. I am never going back to this place. It's surprising because in my Mideast travels to such places as Marrakesh to Cairo to Muskat to Dubai merchants are always so friendly and eager to wait on customers. Never again!

Yelp
Deli options are plentiful, delicious and made well. Each (lamb) entree came with 2 sides. Seating area was clean and had a soccer match playing on the TV. Wasn't able to finish the enormous amount of food-so was able to package it up to take home. Also took home an assortment of tasty desserts. Very reasonably priced, and would go back anytime we are in Philadelphia.

Yelp
Assortment of hot foods, baklava, pita bread and international groceries. The food here is amazing and service. I have been coming here since the first opened, this is a spot that has many food options.

Yelp
The store is so good I was so happy to see so many of the products here, curious to learn where the owners are from!

Yelp
I'm not a fan of baklava, but something just drew me to this food market. When I saw the baklava, I just knew I had to have it! It was literally, THE BEST BAKLAVA I HAVE EVER HAD!

Yelp
This place is a little gem - great shawarma and lovely grocery shop. We frequent about once a week!
