The Best Fine Dining Experiences in SF Right Now | Eater SF

"Having officially given up on takeout, AL's Place is doubling down on the outdoor dining experience under Aaron London, who excels at small plates and tasting menus; the patio reopened (Sept. 24) and fans are hoping the signature 'snackles' return." - Becky Duffett

AL’s Place, Michelin-Starred Mission Restaurant, Will Open a Casual Deli | Eater SF

"I've found AL’s Place to be a vegetable-focused but omnivorous restaurant that remains lively four years after taking first place in Bon Appétit’s 2015 top ten best new restaurants list; the dinner-only, Michelin-starred establishment is run by Aaron London, who continued his focus on vegetables by sourcing produce from Blue Dane Garden in Grass Valley for dishes like a signature bowl of baby lettuces with herbed avocado and pistachio (diners are encouraged to eat it with their hands), and other favorites such as brine-pickled French fries with smoked apple sauce." - Caleb Pershan

Whenever you are looking to kick the chain restaurants to the curb and try a terrific local mom and pop place, this is it. Being from the Midwest, we had to try to fried pork tenderloin. It did not disappoint. This thing was huge. I had to fold it in half and it was still twice the size of the bun. Their homemade slaw was delicious too. Our daughter just had a side of fries. I had to try one and they were very crunchy and delicious. The wife decided to go with the onion rings. After being blown away by the tenderloin, I was a little disappointed in the onion rings. The hospitality was as to be expected in a small town diner. Everyone at the bar greeted us on the way in, and on the way out. Brenda took care of us and always made sure our drinks were full. The unsweetened tea was perfect too. Tricia (the owner) was working hard in the kitchen and made sure everything came out perfect. If you are in the area to visit Bok Tower, or just passing thru, I highly recommend Al's Place.

North of Lake Wales on Florida 17 lies an old Florida Roadhouse called Al's Place. Since Ruby likes Chili dogs and we were in the area, we stopped in. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and the inside is decorated with historic front pages of famous events. A group of regulars were at the unique elephant table. Ruby had a regular chili dog, I had a slaw dog and a sauerkraut dog. We shared an order of onion rings. I had 2 mugs of draft beer, and Ruby had ice tea. The food was good, but a hint, the sauerkraut is cold on the hot dog. They will heat it upon request. There's a stage in the backyard where they have live music. Saturday is bargain day with reduced prices. Carrie, our waitress, was very friendly and efficient.

Had to stop in and check out their breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. Marilyn and I both got one and it was pretty good. This comes with french fries but we also got some onion rings and some coleslaw. You just have to be aware this is cash only no credit cards. The waitress was really nice and took good care of us.

Google
Seat yourself dining. If you're looking for the best chicken wings then this is definitely the place to go! The staff was very friendly and welcoming to us newcomers and the chef is absolutely amazing. She's a fantastic cook and these pictures won't do them justice but I hope you enjoy anyway! Worth a trip over there if you're in the area ☺️

Many, many years ago my grandfather used to play music here every Friday evening. My family and I had the best memories at AL’s Place. It makes me so happy to see that the place is still there and thriving.

We come here a lot of Sundays for laid back dining. We love the atmosphere. Our kids love it . There's a seperate bar area for the adults. Their meatball subs and coleslaw are delicious.

Pork tenderloin and brewed iced tea were the best we’ve had in a long time! Reminded us of Indiana ❤️ and everyone was very friendly!!

Yelp
The place is very small, but nice and clean. We had the tenderloin and it was the best one I've ever had would go back again.

Yelp
I am not sure this restaurant is open or closed. As no one answers the phone, there is no voicemail and they aren't open during the hours on the sign on the door. It was deserted when I came by several times but no reviews in a long while!

Yelp
Been driving by this place for a while. Not much of a drinker, thought it was a bar and it is but it is so much more too. Ordered an appetizer for me and my friend. Onion rings, fried mushrooms, and corn nuggets. Very, very good. Best onion rings I have ever had. Ordered chicken strips with fries. Also very good. In fact the french fries were also the best I have ever had, and I've had a lot of fries in my 60 years. The atmosphere was also very relaxed and welcoming. The bar maid/waitress (I didn't catch her name was a delight) super friendly plus the other customers were really nice too. Really great place, will definitely be going back.

Yelp
You can't beat this place! Great prices and food is served fresh and hot! I love the pork tenderloin sandwich! Fries, rings and mushrooms are fantastic!

Yelp
I was originally steered to Al's Place via a search for cheap eats. OMGosh! It's a lot better than that. Yep it's very eclectic, say 1940-50s. The service was great, food was fabulous, and , yepp... fried fish, and coleslaw was $7.54. Fantastic!

Yelp
We have been going to Al's for the past 28 years and have never been disappointed with the food and the very friendly service , a real down to earth place . Trish always make you feel at home .

Cheryl L.

Yelp
We stopped based on the Yelp reviews and we're not disappointed! We like to give our business to small "mom and pop" placez and are sometimes underwhelmed. All four of us enjoyed are dining choices and of course, the cold beer! It was nice meeting Trish and we will be back next time we're in Lake Wales.

Yelp
4 stars for Al's! This neighborhood tavern has been around for decades and looks it. I don't think anything has changed in that time either. If you like fancy, this ain't the place. You'll find a mixture of working stiffs, retirees, local legends and guys like me that can't figure out what group they belong to, gathered there at all hours. They have only one type of beer on tap but nobody complains 'cause its cheap, big, and its cold. The bottles (9 different brands) sit in ice 'til you're ready. They have three types of wine of course, red or white or whatever. The menu is limited and simple but is a perfect match for the drinks and conversation. The burgers are excellent and the chili dogs are what you'd expect. If you like a place with entertainment Al's will surprise you on special nights, with bands playing everything from rock to big band and jazz. And on the nights that no one is scheduled, you have Trish, a very hard act to follow. So... There it is. Al's Place.
