Michelin-Starred San Francisco Restaurant AL’s Place Is Closing. Here’s Why | Eater SF

"After seven years, chef Aaron London announced the sudden, shocking decision to shut down his popular Michelin-star restaurant AL’s Place; the restaurant earned plenty of recognition, including a Bon Appétit nod as the 'best new restaurant in the country' in its opening year. London says the closure isn’t due to rent hikes or lack of customers—the restaurant is fine—but stems from a desire to spend more time with his partner and 1-year-old daughter, noting he can’t keep 'burning himself to a crisp' and is recrafting his professional life around family. The restaurant’s last day will be August 28." - Dianne de Guzman

Tripleta Founders Say Chef Aaron London Has Kicked Them Out of Their Own Pop-Up | Eater SF

"I observed that Al’s Place is described as Michelin-starred and was temporarily closed at the time, and that London brought a sous chef and line cook from Al’s Place into the Tripleta kitchen; London was also the party on the lease referenced in the Tripleta arrangement." - Becky Duffett

"From Ubuntu alum Aaron London, AL's Place treats meat more as a side dish, exemplifying the Bay Area's strong tradition of vegetable-centric cuisine." - Luke Tsai

This was my first time for being at this establishment. I will go again. I ordered the Hot Beef and it was delicious. The potatoes were good, along with the gravy and the good amount of roast beef. The waitress was very attentive, but not smothering. There is plenty of seating. Hope you find your visit just as pleasurable.

I was in there today I had the server Melissa, she was super nice, kind, helped me with the menu, went above and beyond. 1000/10 service I will be back to have her service again 🤩🤩 She also told me about the free thanksgiving meal! Awesome. Thumbs up to AL’s place as well.

I used to frequent this restaurant about once a month. I came here today for breakfast after they messed up pretty badly twice in a row. I ordered blueberry crepes. They were the nastiest crepes I’ve ever eaten. They’re not hard to cook. Crepes are thin and should be rolled not thick, flat, and over cooked. When the waitress told her that I didn’t like them she made sure I heard her say that’s the way they make them. NO, it is not how they’re made. I won’t be back, and I hope others read this and see how rude they are when people don’t like their food. They’ve already lost a lot of customers due to the yelling in their restaurant as the owner was yelling at his help. Whoever Denise is, she gets offended easily too. Sorry, not sorry I will never return to this place again. The food is below average and it truly sucks.

I was in Al's last year and the food was acceptable. This time yesterday, I ordered a club sandwich and the bread was hard as a rock. They apparently save the old bread and use it for sandwiches later in the day. I could barely bite into the bread. Each quarter of the sandwich was loaded with tomato so as to disguise the lack of turkey and bacon and cheese on the sandwich. If you choose to take your chances at Al's, DO NOT order the turkey club sandwich. It's a huge disappointment.

I picked a post at random for lunch, and I chose well! Friendly staff, excellent food, reasonable prices. Ask for Ash Jo if you go, she's amazing.
