AL’s Deli, a Michelin-Pedigreed Deli-Style Restaurant, Has Closed After Eight Months in the Mission | Eater SF

"I know AL’s Place is a Michelin-starred, vegetable-centric fine-dining restaurant known for its playful, “weird menu verbiage”—terms like “peach AL’s pastor” and “herb blaster”—and that Chef Aaron London plans to concentrate all of his energy on it now that AL’s Deli has closed." - Luke Tsai

AL’s Place Debuts New Omnivorous Tasting Menu | Eater SF

"When it opened in the Mission in 2015, AL’s Place quickly earned national accolades for its inventive focus on produce. I observed that chef Aaron London, whose restaurant is Michelin-starred, was never strictly vegetarian but put vegetables at the center of the plate, often relegating meat to side-dish status. Over the years the kitchen has widened its viewpoint: much of the menu remains vegetable-focused, but there are far more animal proteins—meat and fish—on the menu than before. Despite that shift, the restaurant’s popular family-style tasting menu, which is ordered by 65 percent of guests, hadn’t kept pace until this month, when AL’s Place debuted a new omnivorous family-style tasting menu. Now groups receive a selection of dishes from every section of the menu, including the larger meat-focused section (labeled "limited availability" because the kitchen makes fewer of those dishes each night); vegetarian groups can still request a plant-based tasting menu instead. London felt the set menu was no longer showcasing the best of what AL’s Place could do, and the new option lets groups who want meat be accommodated without ordering a la carte. The restaurant serves Northern California regional cuisine rooted in the produce and seafood of the Bay Area." - Janelle Bitker

Love this place!! I have been coming here since i was a kid forty plus years ago. It has an awesome bar, with money on the ceiling and while they used to only sell steak sandwiches, they now have a menu with a large variety of items. The prices are a bit high but where aren't prices high these days? The service was top notch and that is something you do not get at most places these days. Definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed by the food or the overall experience.

What fun! Worth the drive to hang out in this epic Dive Bar. Take a moment and enjoy the history of Locke and the old buildings. Bar has a rickety cool atmosphere and from biker to tourist.. all get the same warm welcome. Make the trip!

After meaning to go here for years, we finally made it last night (a Tuesday). So glad we did. I enjoyed the character of this spot. It's a bar/restaurant with a rich history, totally unique and off the beaten path. We started with an Old Fashioned. It was fun talking to Jonny, I think I heard, about Al's, mixology, and ice. He made a most excellent Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioneds, one bourbon and one rye, were a great lead in to the The Big Ol Steak and a Lil Steak. They were cooked as we requested (one rare and one medium-rare) and accompanied with sauteed mushrooms, loaded baked potato, onion rings, French fries, and Brussels sprouts. All was fantastic. My wife raved about the Brussels, and we enjoyed talking with Crystal about how she made them. Everyone who works here that we interacted with was friendly. I'm still having a hard time adjusting to prices after the past few years, but the prices here seemed quite reasonable compared to elsewhere. I look forward to getting back again.

Dive bar with excellent food. Parking is a little dicey but this place is worth the bet. My daughters took me out for my birthday. One had the shrimp, fish & chips. We all had a bite of the others meals. The fish and the shrimp was top notch. Crispy, flavorful and hot. My other daughter and I shared a ribeye steak meal. Plenty big for the two of us. Melted in the mouth. The sweet potato fries were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Brussel sprouts were fantastic! Tangy and just the right texture. Definitely will return.

Mary and Crystal made our visit so fun and enjoyable! The place has a real historic dive bar charm to it. When you walk in you can see the famous dollar bills on the ceiling and you can feel the floors are far from level. Highly recommend for great food, service, and atmosphere. We had the potato skins and the fish and shrimp with chips. The food was fresh and excellent.

After many visits to the historic town of Locke, we finally stopped at Al's the Wop for lunch with our granddaughters yesterday. Yes, it's a funky roadside bar & grill, but the atmosphere is terrific. Most importantly the food was very good. We ordered burgers (on a recommendation) and the fish & shrimp chips combo plate. It was enough food for two people! The food was fresh, hot and did not disappoint. Perhaps the most memorable part was the service provided by Mary. She was very welcoming offering suggestions on the menu along with stories of Al's itself. Mary was great with our granddaughters and checked in with us frequently. The price was reasonable particularly considering the large portions. If you are looking for comfort food in a relaxed fun atmosphere, you'll get that at Al's the Wop.

A wonderful historic restaurant/bar along the delta that serves up food so good that you can taste that love that went in to it. My wedge salad was crisp and fresh, and the buffalo chicken sandwich was mouth watering. Oh, and the beer was cold too. I will be back!
