Pittsburgh Has a 3-day Pickle Festival—and You Can Ride a Mechanical Pickle, Eat Pickled Cannoli, and Enter a Pickle Juice Drinking Contest

"An upscale restaurant near the festival that focuses on elevated classics—think lobster tagliatelle, seafood arrabbiata, and pillowy sourdough focaccia—but used the Taste of Picklesburgh collaboration to play with pickled flavors; it was notably busy over the weekend, with diners returning for second rounds of spicy pickled palomas." - Angela Lian Angela Lian Angela Lian was the editorial intern at Travel + Leisure. We had a wonderful time celebrating birthday dinner at this beautiful restaurant. The ambiance is lovely, with a great vibe that makes for a perfect dining experience. We started with Brussels Sprouts, which were incredibly tasty. For mains, we ordered the Ravioli- delicious but on the heavier side and the fusilli pasta, which was okay. We ended the meal with tiramisu which was decent but didn't stand out. What truly elevated the experience, was the outstanding service. Our host was attentive, checked on us frequently and provided great recommendations. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for a nice dinner, and we enjoyed our time there. Would recommend reservation as the place gets busy.

Visited this location for dinner on a Tuesday. We didn’t have a reservation and were able to be seated right away. It did take a while for anyone to approach our table, but our server was quite friendly. We ordered some cocktails and started with the Caesar salad which was fresh and tasty. He also brought out the housemade focaccia. For entrees, I had the salmon, which was well prepared and had an overall nice flavor with the romesco sauce and accompaniments. My friend had a half portion of the fusilli pasta with vodka sauce and the beans & greens. Pasta was good, but the beans & greens were better! It seemed the menu was still very cold weather focused and I would’ve loved to see some spring dishes! We shared an olive oil cake for dessert, which unfortunately was a bit dry for $13 cake. Overall though a decent meal.

Google
Delicious dinner at Alta Via with Edward as server! Highly recommend the tuna tartare to start and a salad which can be shared by two if you plan to have a full sized entree. Lots of good pasta dishes to choose from. Only a 4 for service because hostesses are always indifferent and unaccommodating. This is a customers first point of contact - a customers first impression. I'm not sure what these young girls seating customers are not taught this. (FYI - This is our experience each and every time we visit - underwhelming, cold greeting and treatment from them.) Otherwise, top notch. Love our server, Edward!

We had an excellent brunch experience here. Service was excellent. Our waitress was kind and welcoming. We ordered from the Brunch Prix Fixe menu. The Sangria was delicious. It was fruity, sweet and delicate. My Mom tried the Ricotta Toast and she really enjoyed it. I had the Little Gem Romaine Salad, which was very tasty. The portion was generous. The dressing was very flavorful. For our main course, we both had the Mafaldine with Mushroom Bolognese. This was so good, I forgot to snap a pic of it! 😅 This was just incredibly good. I highly recommend it. The mushroom bolognese is somehow both light while still being rich and bold in flavor. I have intentions of visiting again and when I do, I'll be sure to get that picture to share! I highly recommend Alta Via for brunch, lunch or dinner.

Google
Great ambiance! 2nd visit here. Ordered the butternut squash ravioli, fusilli and Brussel sprouts. The ravioli was good but not a lot of flavor. The foccacia bread was amazing! Many places that serve foccacia don't do a great job. The fusilli was very tasty and the whipped marscapone was the perfect fit. Server was friendly, but I did have a wait a bit for a refill on my drink even though he walked by several times. Decor is great and it's very cozy! Also, love that you can order the small or large portions. Great option!

Great food and service! Many pasta options can be half servings. Filet done to perfection!

This was hands down one of the greatest experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. The atmosphere is second to none, this is a perfect place for a date, family dinner, friends or business dinner. After being seated we were shown the menus with multiple food and drink options. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the entire menu. It was very easy to order due to our servers. (Thanks Dustin) I can't wait to come back up here to come to this place again next time I'm back in town.

Google
I’ve dined at this restaurant many times and always found it to be excellent. This is the first time I’ve been disappointed. Went last night and I ordered the tagliatelle with lobster. I don’t know what kind of “lobster” it was, but it wasn’t any kind I’ve ever had (I’m from Maine and I know lobster). Based on the high price of the dish, I expected it to be higher quality. It tasted like imitation krab. And the dish had no flavor, sadly. I was having a wonderful evening with girlfriends and didn’t want to ruin the vibe, so I did not send it back. But what a disappointment. Other than that, the service was wonderful, thank you, Lydia, and the ambiance - as always- was great.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner as the place had good reviews. Located in a strip Mall w ample parking. Friendly welcoming staff w lovely ambience. Clean bathrooms. We tried the eggplant special, fritto Misto n warm ricotta toast. Eggplant was v good w goat cheese, arugula n balsamic glaze. The fritto misto was good too . Warm ricotta toast was good n something different that I've never had before. Had the chicken parm, lumache and fusilli . The house made pastas were good. I ordered half portion of lumache n it was a lot . The fusilli was v tasty n spicy. There was LO for lunch today. We topped it all w olive oil cake, crepe brûlée n gelato. Olive oil cake tasted really good but didn't taste olive oil. Cane w a raspberry compote which was a good pairing for that. And w vanilla gelato was good. All in all a good dinner. Tx u . Will certainly come back again .

Yelp
Excellent pasta and service. I've been here more than once and the service has been consistently good. On one occasion our pasta was a bit too al dente. More like uncooked and I prefer my pasta al dente too. We just ate the pasta because the flavors were still good. We only commented on the pasta because our server asked. But the manager did comp our meal even if we did not ask for that to happen. I will continue to be a returning customer. The food is excellent and I believe the incident was a one time thing. Highly recommend for a great experience and great flavors! The complimentary bread and salted butter is amazing!

Yelp
We went for my dad birthday. We loved everything we got. I got the fusilli with grilled chicken, it was very good. Not pictured was my dad meal, he got the branzino and said it was good. I will be going back because I need to try more of the menu. Our waiter was great. Gave recommendations and checked on us. And he was just very nice. We had an early reservation. It isn't fully necessary but I would recommend just to be safe.

Yelp
Our server was very friendly and attentive. She recommended the scallop dish and it was delicious. Very flavorful and fresh. The bread was also yummy and such a nice touch. We will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Alta Via never disappoints. The service was great and the food is exceptional. We always have to try out a few of their appetizers. Their warm ricotta toast with fig was delicious. I am a big cocktail drinker so had to get a few of their rotating cocktails. The ambience is welcoming and dimly lit. Perfect for a date night or dinner with friends.

Yelp
We celebrated our 30th Anniversary at Alta Via. Best ambiance ever! The staff went beyond expectations. The food was perfect and the wine, top notch. Thank you for making our Anniversary celebration, perfect!!!

Yelp
We had a fantastic dinner tonight. Alta Via is one of my favorites for Italian! The drinks are always good and the service is top notch. Tonight we shared the Little Gem salad (not pictured) and we each got a small portion for our main course. I normally get the Bucatini, but tonight I went with the Ricotta Ravioli in a Lemon cream sauce with sweet corn. 5 stars! My husband had the Rigatoni and meatballs. The meatballs were tender and you could tell they were slow cooked in the sauce. Dessert was the Chocolate Torte. This was a miss for me just because of the density of the chocolate. The flavor was amazing just too rich for me.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I have gone here only a handful of times but it's so good for some fancy Italian restaurant. I wish I'd better words, but the food is so good and the taste is delectable. The vibes inside the restaurant are very private and it's kind of very quiet and good for a really nice date night.

Yelp
We went for Valentine's day dinner and it was a lovely experience! The ambiance felt very homey and comfortable but also intimate and romantic, and the wait staff were very attentive and friendly. We felt well taken care of the whole night. I love ricotta on toast, so ofc we ordered the warm ricotta on toast dish. It was spectacular!! It was topped with arugula and fresh pear/apple and such an unexpected flavor profile. We also shared pasta and the Florentine Steak. Both were very yummy. All in all, a wonderful experience! They also had a Valentine's Day special menu explaining the significance/history of the day which I thought was really cute.

Yelp
We stopped in at Alta Via for a bite on a road trip and all I can say is wow, what a treat! We started out with the burrata appetizer and split a beet salad. Burrata app: cheese tasted super fresh, arugula salad on the side was a nice touch. The prosciutto was sliced rather thickly for my taste but it didnt bother me too much. Beet salad: Orange vinaigrette was very tasty with the beets and the chopped toasted almonds gave the salad some nice texture. **Bonus points for the free focaccia bread!! Lots of places charge you for bread now so that was a solid plus.** For our entrees we got the Lumache and Fusilli. Let me say the fusilli was out of sight!! Super creamy and velvety smooth sauce with al dente pasta. 10/10. Bf got the lumache which he said was tasty. We skipped dessert and drinks this time around. All in all a great experience but a couple notes about service: our waiter was very nice but we felt like service was a little slow. The meal took kind of a while to come out and while we werent in a rush, we didn't expect to be here for an hour and a half. I didnt dock a star because the food was good enough that I didnt really care but maybe don't come here if you're in a super big hurry.

Yelp
Maybe we just went on an off night but not a great experience. Service was very slow. Appetizers were OK but greens and beans were not good. Bread is very good. Waited a very long time for the 4 of us to get main entrees. 3 of the 4 pastas were cold and had to send back and another long wait. Food was good though but mine just came back just barely warm and not hot food. The restaurant is pretty and has a medium loud atmosphere but the music they play is very loud and very annoying. Prices are not cheap but I think they would have good food if heated.

Yelp
Go hungry. Be ready to be satisfied!! Food is Fabulous. If you are watching your Pennie's to get the most. The small pastas are plenty. We like sitting in the bar area especially for Sunday brunch. I can't remember the bartender but, he is great ( thinking Michael or Lee is his name?! Glasses)

James M.

Yelp
The Ambiance is pretty good for a restaurant in a strip mall. The food that I did end up ordering was very good although the meat sauce was not as meaty as I would have liked. Service was courteous so no complaints there. So why only three stars? I was originally going to order Chicken Parmesan (which is one of my favorite Italian dishes) but ended up having to order something else because when I asked if it came with pasta the waiter said that it did not. I have never ordered CP anywhere that did not come with at least a small serving of pasta. So the CP at this restaurant was not only priced higher than average but it did not come with anything else. I was very disappointed as I had to quickly decide on an alternative. Here is another tip to consider if you eat here. They offer a half plate and a full plate for some of their dishes the difference for double the price is negligible so save yourself some money. All in all I will probably not return to this restaurant except for maybe the bar area which also has a nice ambiance.

Yelp
Everything at Alta Via was top notch! They have these wonderful half servings of each of their pastas that allows you to try several different kinds. They start out the meal with focaccia bread and an oil/butter mixture that is so delicious that we ordered seconds of that. Even though they didn't have the limoncello cocktail on the menu, we were able to order it anyway...so refreshing! We had the crispy Brussels sprouts which are so worth ordering, the Ravioli (super fluffy cheese inside), the bolognese, pappardelle (the noodles were so delicious), and the vodka sauce pasta. Everything was delicious, but the raviolis were the best! We finished our meal off with the olive oil cake sundae. The cake was so wonderful! Sorry about there being no pics...we just couldn't stop to take any because, well, it was just that good!

Yelp
Really great experience at Alta Via and it started with our server ( I wish I could remember his name)! He was incredibly attentive and friendly, and went over the menu for us because we hadn't been there before. My husband got a gin cocktail and enjoyed it. The house made focaccia bread was to die for! We started with the scallop appetizer and it was very good. I wish there were more scallops! I had the mafalfini pasta dish and it was incredible. I will say it is heavy so I'm glad I got the small portion. The sauce is great for dipping your focaccia in! My husband had the bucatini and really liked it. We ended with the chocolate torta caprese and it was super chocolatey and delicious! Overall, great date night spot!!

Yelp
FOOD - quite yummy except some misses. we all did 2 half portions so we could try different things tuna tartare - loved this, loved the spiced bread, all the flavors and textured mixed rlly well together gemelli - v yummy, it's not heavy at all but still has great taste. great palette cleanser for the other dishes but also amazing on it's own. only 2 pieces of scallop but tbf they were fat pieces and also good quality mafaldine - loved the mushroom flavor fettuccine - this one tastes like "airplane butter" apparently. imo it was too oily and not very creamy. not worth lumache - this one tastes like yak PRICE - normal for pasta I think. I love the half portion thing they do, i think a normal person would be able to eat 1 half portion and then 1/2 of another half portion. SERVICE - lowk slow but expected from a pasta place AMBIANCE - dark but not super fancy

Yelp
This review is for their new restaurant downtown at Market Square. One word: Beautiful I love the layout and decor with ample amount of seating both indoor and outdoor. There's comfy couch chairs just to the entrance by the bar area where we sat that was just perfect. They also have a wide array of wine selections as well. This is definitely our new date night spot. Oh and the food! Amazing. Do try the meatballs! They're chef's ‍ kiss

Yelp
Always a pleasant dining experience here. The pasta's are all amazing! Drinks are strong. Good choice for a nicer but not super luxurious dinner.

Yelp
Alta Vía was delicious! I loved the ambiance and all of the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The drinks were so good and the pastas were fresh and flavorful. I didn't love the calamari but the rock shrimp was great. The fresh focaccia for the table was warm and tasty. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes and get dessert.

Yelp
Stopped here for belated birthday lunch. Has a beautiful upscale look to the place. Had lunch reservations and our waiter saw to it all our needs were met. Had complimentary focaccia bread with sea salt, olive oil, and butter. Enjoyed the crab cake sandwich with fries. There were plenty for make a meal. Daughter had burger and fries which she was thoroughly delighted with. Son had vegan bolanaise pasta. He let me sample it. It's good but it did have a bit of a kick to it. Pasta comes in two sizes if you are ordering. Am very happy had finally had the opportunity to check Alta Via out. I loved their pizza shop so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed here. Looking forward to returning to try out their other pastas.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Burrata with prosciutto on perfectly grilled crostini. Mussels in beautiful tomato sauce were tender & flavorful. All the homemade pastas were FANTASTIC. Service was polished & attentive.

Yelp
Fantastic Italian restaurant! Came here for my birthday dinner and they made it a wonderful experience. The restaurant is very clean, with modern and classy design. Our waiter brought us warm bread right away, with extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and butter. It was delicious, light, and fresh and we enjoyed the various ways to top our bread. For my entree I ordered the Fusilli and it was incredible! The vodka sauce had a wonderful blend of sweetness and spice from the Calabrian chili. The noodles tasted handmade and cooked perfectly to be soft enough to enjoy, but also hold enough structure to scoop up the sauce. On top the whipped mascarpone and chives added a brightness to the dish. Every bite was very enjoyable and delicious in flavor! The large portion was perfect for dinner and take a little home for lunch the next day. Can't wait to come back and try another one of their pasta entrees. Make sure to sign up for the Big Burrito email list and you'll get a free $30 entree on your birthday!

Yelp
Honestly confused as to why I haven't been here sooner. I've always heard great things about Alta Via from coworkers who live in Fox Chapel and they were all correct. Inside is stunning and small enough to feel low key. The food and service was fantastic. Bread service (I think focaccia?) was spot on. The long island duck was juicy and tender. It was marinated with a delicious fig thyme sauce - so unique! The papardelle pasta was very good as well. The braised beef was tender and the noodles were super long. I would 100% recommend trying the desserts. My favorite was the chocolate torte and the tiramisu was definitely a runner up. Overall, it was a great meal all around. Will definitely be back to try more pasta!

Yelp
First time at Alta Via for my birthday! All food was excellent- only complaint was that we didn't drink alcohol and aside from water, we were not offered refills. Appetizer- ricotta toast Main- short rib pasta and 1/2 chicken with potatoes Dessert- sundae with raspberry marmalade and milk crumbles.

Patrick T.

Yelp
This is one of the better restaurants I've tried in the Pittsburgh metro. Wonderful ambience, excellent service and the food was delicious. I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
We eat at Alta via (fox chapel) often and usually the service and food are excellent. Last night was terrible, however. Our waiter was rude and seemed annoyed to be working. The food took over an hour to arrive and when we raised concerns we were told that the kitchen was short staffed. They could have apologized, sent over a glass of wine or comped our appetizers -- any of those steps would have helped. Instead they did nothing. We won't be going back for a while.
google avatar

Mlle B.

Yelp
Alta Via is our family's go-to spot for dinner in the Fox Chapel area. The food and service are fantastic, and the atmosphere is always lively. Everything I've had on the menu is delicious. Crispy Brussels sprouts, baby artichokes, and beans & greens on the Verdura menu are great. I like all of the pasta dishes---hard to pick a favorite. For desserts, I like the tiramisu, olive oil cake, and chocolate torta caprese. I also ordered Alta Via menu items for a catered event via their affiliate, Big Burrito aka Big Catering. The food was an absolute hit with everyone who attended. Every bite scrumptious.

Yelp
Great drinks! Great service! My husband took me for my birthday and Portia was our bartender and the cocktails she made were beautiful, delicious and strong. My husband is not a fan of olives but said these were the best he'd ever had.

Yelp
This is the first time in a few years that my family and I went here and i think it was a very solid meal. I think most of the dishes were good, but several of them were missing something for me The bread they serve was very good. It was served with salt, olive oil, and butter. The bread had a nice crust on top and it had the nice level of chewiness that I really enjoy. I tried a mushroom risotto that had pomegranate. I thought the risotto was cooked nicely, was smooth and creamy, and the mushrooms they added gave a nice earthy contrast. I wasn't a fan of the pomegranate added as the flavor combo seemed odd, but I think that's mostly personal preference. The tuna tartar was tasty. I really liked the bread they served with it. I do feel like something was missing, like maybe a crème fraiche, but again, that is likely just my own preference. The ricotta toast had a generous portion of a very smooth and tasty ricotta. It had pistachio and figs on it, but again, I feel like I'd enjoy it more with some changes. I didn't like the fig, but the rest of the table liked it. I think I'd have preferred a different salty substitute for the pistachio. The chopped salad was nice. It had romaine, cherry tomatoes, Gorgonzola crumbles, and what I enjoyed most was the picked onion and blackberries. That combo worked well for me. The dressing was a celery seed vinaigrette which I also enjoyed. The beans and greens was a dish I really enjoyed. It was pretty basic, but it had a basil pesto that I thought was very nice. For the main, an order of branzino was ordered and that was a big hit. That may be my Mom's favorite fish and she said it was the best branzino she's ever had. We also tried the pappardelle which was pasta with beef short rib sugo, and stracciatella. I thought the short rib was decent, but the pasta itself I really enjoyed. It certainly does taste differently (at least to me) and it reminds me of the times I've gone to an Italian home and had a home cooked meal. I tried the chocolate torta caprese and enjoyed it. It came with whip cream, mint, chocolate shavings, and some hazelnut. I'd recommend this if you're a fan of darker chocolate. The server was great. He won me over for a big tip just by giving me bread to take home with our leftovers, but he was great. I don't see myself going here any time soon mostly because I'm not a huge pasta fan, but I think it's worth giving a try if you're looking for some up-scale Italian.

Yelp
Food was outstanding. Our waitress gave us very focused service, that of a truly fine restaurant. Appetizers were delicious! It's refreshing to go to an establishment where everyone who's working there is helping one another, a well oiled machine. That's hard to find these days. The passion for consistency shines at Alta Via. Go fill yourself with fine foods.
google avatar

Vicki K.

Yelp
Absolutely love Alta Via. I've never had a bad pasta dish and the wine selection doesn't disappoint. This is my go to spot for a dinner date with my husband, or an overdue dinner with girlfriends.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for lunch with co-workers at the recommendation of one of them who lives close by and this was an excellent recommendation! They have one of the most extensive pasta menus I've ever seen, loaded with all freshly-made entrée's that sounded so appetizing! All items here are made fresh to order and tasted great! The focaccia was excellent too! Service was great! Our server did an excellent job paying close attention to our needs and making suggestions. The venue and décor is also nicely done and cozy. I'm looking forward to returning!
google avatar

Nicole Sung Un P.

Yelp
Our server was friendly and great. We came here for our 1 year wedding anniversary and had a great time. All of their pasta is made in house and we could tell. Ask for recommendations because some of their pastas change seasonally. I would come here again with friends to try different dishes. The pasta price was very reasonable for the ambience and food quality. Thank you Alta!

Yelp
Came here with my big burrito birthday coupon. I think this was the only big burrito establishment left in the city I hadn't tried. Unfortunately would not go back. We ordered the halibut and it came out cold and raw- had to send it back and they did cook it to a safe temperature and we're apologetic about it. I think if everything else has been amazing, I could've forgiven it, but everything else was really subpar as well. In particular, I was really excited about trying the pasta, but there was nothing special. I think the best thing we had for the whole meal was the castelvetrano olives and the free bread. Our server, and the staff in general were really great, but the food just did not live up to the atmosphere unfortunately.

John S.

Yelp
Another review said for a birthday they got a candle on a plate, apparently that didn't sit well...no candle, no plate but the waitress did say happy birthday and wrote that on the bill...so we have that going for us. $17 for 5 bite size ravioli and $53 for filet is high, we expected high prices but hoped for ample servings. The food and service were good. Running the tap water through any filter and chilling it would be appreciated.

Yelp
I've never been disappointed by the wonderful experience at Alta Via! We had reservations with 2 other couples for our friend's birthday. Parking was easy right in front of the building! We got there right at our reservation time and were promptly seated (worth mentioning since the last Big restaurant we went to had us waiting 30+ mins to be seated with a reservation!) the atmosphere was swanky and inviting, enough to have conversations without needing to yell over music or chatter. Our table was half rounded booth, half chairs. Our server Tim was delightful! One of my friends explained her wine preferences and he was kind enough to point her to the right wine for her (Pinot Nero) and she loved it. I got the Prosecco Cocktail, which was the right amount of refreshing and sparkling. The fresh focaccia bread, served with olive oil, butter, and sea salt, hit the spot to start the meal. We ordered the fig appetizer to start and our friends shared the burrata, both delicious. For dinner, I did a small portion of the bucatini and the pappardelle. The pasta was perfectly Al dente, and the short rib in the pappardelle was outstanding. My husband got the branzino. It was cooked perfectly - he likes lemon, but not in huge amounts, so I wouldn't recommend if you don't love citrus. Our meal took about an hour and a half, the perfect amount of time to eat a few courses and celebrate time with friends. We were too full for dessert but we'll be back soon to eat some chocolate hazelnut torte and olive oil cake!

Yelp
Are at the bar after ice skating at PPG rink Great food and great service. Tuna tartare appetizer was delicious. My husband had the duck and thoroughly enjoyed. I had the halibut, very good.

Yelp
What an incredible meal at Alta Via - my third in the last several years, and the best yet, I think. We were here to celebrate my husband's birthday with a group of good friends, and everyone had a beautiful spread of food! Both the service and ambiance were absolutely wonderful from the moment we entered. It's a chic and cozy space with booths and interesting nooks for tables, with capabilities for large and small groups. We started with cocktails and wine, and I had a lovely Aperol spritz. The house focaccia bread arrived shortly thereafter with butter, oil, and salt, and it was warm and delicious. My husband and I tried the current burrata appetizer, which was phenomenal - served with an arugula salad and grilled bread. Our mains were four types of pasta, all of which we absolutely loved. The small portions are very generous, and you will DEFINITELY be full afterwards! Tragically we didn't have room for dessert, but I've had the tiramisu and olive oil cake before and both are delicious. I highly recommend Alta Via for any special evening, and there's truly something for everyone on the menu!

Yelp
Pittsburgh Italian is a challenge for me. Our favorite Italian place had closed for good, and it was a bummer, because sloppy, saucy food "like nonna's" isn't so much what I'm in the market for when I want Italian food. So I am really hanging my head in shame for waiting so long to get to Alta Via because our anniversary dinner last week was a truly perfect meal. Bread service is a nice focaccia with butter, olive oil (DELICIOUS olive oil), and salt. We had a Brussels sprout salad (needed a touch more dressing) and a buratta appetizer (more of that focaccia--grilled this time--with some arugula and tomato confit.) Something on that plate had a hit of lemon that was just subtle and perfect. Main course was a half portion of pasta for each of us --the spaghetti with crab and lemon mascarpone for me and the papardelle with short rib sugo for my husband. The plates could not have been more different from each other, but each was the best version of itself: the spaghetti was light, subtle, a little kicky, and yet substantial; the papardelle was hearty, meaty, filling and yet bright. But let me talk about the sleeper star of our dinner. If you visit Alta Via, do not under any circumstances skip the baby artichokes on the vegetables menu. I feel so bad for the cook who has to clean those things every day (because what a chore they are) but this dish is such a winner--tart, lemony, herby, tender, and artichoke-y sweet. If these are on the menu when I visit again, I'm ordering them every single time. Drinks and dessert were also delicious and pretty to look at. Service was nicely paced and our server was great. Can't wait to return. (Those artichokes are calling me.)

Yelp
Really good food- we could not decide so we each got 2 1/2 dishes so that we could try 4 different menu items! Extensive wine and cocktail list and delicious, unique pasta. A great date night location!

Yelp
So happy we tried this place out for an early birthday celebration!! We were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very chic but also very cozy, which was perfect for an upscale Italian meal. We started with the burrata and beans and greens. The burrata was okay, about what you'd expect but the beans and greens were so tasty and flavorful! The romaine salad was pretty simple, not much going on. We loved the focaccia bread that came complimentary as well. We decided to do family style and share a variety of pasta dishes. We ordered four large pastas between the five of us and it was more than enough. We got the orecchiette, fusilli, bucatini, and pappardelle. All pastas are made in house and were delicious. We definitely need to try the gnocchi next time. We also had a great server, Trent, who took great care of us. We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
My husband and I went here on a date early on a Saturday. There were very few people there so we were able to sit in a large booth in the bar area. The place is very pleasing to the eye - from the dimly lit, aesthetically pleasing dining room to a large wooden structure hanging over the bar containing a variety of plants. It was much more of a fine dining experience than I anticipated! We began our meal with the meatball starter - 3 meatballs in a delicious red sauce. We were served freshly made focaccia bread with a side of butter, oil and rosemary sea salt. It was probably some of the best bread I have ever had. Soft and pillowy with a light crust. Perfect for dipping into the extra meatball sauce! I then had the winter salad - delicata squash, pomegranate, hazelnuts over dressed greens. It was light and tasty. For my meal, I opted for the ravioli filled with butternut squash, topped with an herb and nut mixture and lightly doused in a sage butter with pomegranate seeds as a topper. The ravioli were super small and light but just enough to complete my meal (I opted for the half portion). I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! We had great service during our dining experience at Alta Via. From the hostess to our waitress Steph and who I believe was the manager bringing out our food - they all worked cohesively and took great care of us. The price point of this place is higher end with smaller portion sizes but we were not surprised about this. We were looking for good quality and that is what we received! Give this place a try!

Yelp
First time to this lovely restaurant. My pet peeve in so many places is bright light, I do not want to feel like I am at the dentist when dining out. The lighting and overall ambiance were just perfect. Food and service both excellent. Will return!

Yelp
Mama Mia, Alta Via! So far, I've been to all of the Big Burrito Group's restaurants with the exception of Umi and I can honestly say that I was truly satisfied with my meal and service at Alta Via. First off, the atmosphere is very relaxed and chill. The dining space reminds me of how dining spaces appear on film. Quiet, subdued colors and hushed tones. I was waiting for someone to be overly dramatic and throw a drink in someone's face and then I would have had a real movie moment! (Hah) But seriously, even though we had a waitress, who had a trainee with them, our service was excellent. (As a matter of fact, we had better service with them than I've had at other restaurants with fully trained servers.) And we fully enjoyed our selections that were recommended by the wait staff. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts, Spaghetti with rock shrimp, Branzino with Yukon Gold potatoes, Steak Fiorentino and the Double-Cut Pork Chops. for dessert, we ordered the Olive Oil Cake and Chocolate Torta Caprese with Hazelnut oat crunch. Everything was delicious! (I know that this looks like a lot of food, but it was for 3 people and I took the spaghetti home with me as a to-go order.) We tasted each others food and I can honestly say that my branzino was excellently prepared with a crispy skin and moist interior. The pork chops weren't dried out and the steak was tender and juicy. Additionally, the mushrooms and potatoes that accompanied the dishes were delicious. And the desserts were perfect endings to our meals. My only complaint (minor) was that the serving size of the branzino was a little on the tiny side, but excellently prepared. Overall, it was a wonderful first visit to yet another Big Burrito Group restaurant.

Yelp
Love this restaurant! As we all know, Italian is my one true weakness, and thus we had to order almost every single pasta on the menu. The special pasta was fusilli in a vodka sauce. I inhaled it in 30 seconds flat. I'm pretty sure my sister had a tear in her eye when she tasted her pappardelle.

Yelp
Our daughter arrived early and got us a booth in the bar. This is a great place to sit since the Penn State game was on. Dustin was our waiter and was very knowledgeable and helpful. He double checked with the kitchen to make sure what was gluten free. We had cocktails first which were very good. Mezcal Negroni, espresso martini and house old fashioned. When we switched to wine with dinner, Dustin brought us samples so we could choose. Apps - risotto, broccolini and beans and greens. We couldn't pick our favorite! Now the big secret here - get half orders of the pasta, that way you can try a lot of different dishes. We loved the Mushroom Bolognese, Papardelle, and the Vodka sauce. We were too full for dessert.

Yelp
I went once and was very disappointed. But I gave them another chance and I'm glad that I did. Great meal. I'm a salad, meat or fish and vegetables kind of girl. Even with those parameters they were great.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to take my favorite people. The atmosphere is relaxing and romantic. It really makes me feel like I'm somewhere special. I feel like I always get the same things but everything is just unbelievably delicious. The bread the pasta the lemon cello Martin. The tiramisu and espresso is my favorite. This place just checks all my boxes. My only tip is don't expect the usual huge portion sizes you'd get from the Olive Garden or something.. the ingredients are high quality so it plenty satisfying. I look forward to coming here every time I get an opportunity. Do I dare to say favorite restaurant
