This is a cozy bistro that serves modern American food. We came at a busy time so it took a while for our drinks to come. Our server comped the drinks and dessert to make up for it. The beef tartare is chopped, not ground, and the texture played well with the capers and cornichon. The panzanella salad with sliced stone fruit and burrata tasted light but was filling. The lamb chops were soft and flavorful. The seared scallops’ sweetness was enhanced by the onion and garlic sauce. My favorite was the beef Wellington. Though the crust was not crispy, the fillet mignon was tender and delicious with the mushroom duxelles. The apple turnover was a sweet treat at the end of the meal. This dinner was perfect except for the poor ventilation. Our clothes smelled of food and smoke on the way home.

We started off with the Bacon Wrapped Dates which are a personal favorite of mine so I loved these. Next we followed up with a Buffalo Sauced Brussels Sprouts and being that I don’t usually put buffalo sauce on them it was a nice flavor change. They were perfectly crispy and went quickly. For my entrée I chose the Rack of Lamb which was a bit small in portion, being that it was just 3 pieces, but the flavors were very nice. For dessert we chose the Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding and it was a hit for the table I loved it. These are certainly not share size portions so I would be aware of that when booking or sitting down.

I have been to this restaurant twice and loved it both times! Last time I went was on Valentine's day...we had a reservation. They were running a little behind but opened up Altabeverages for those waiting for a table and kept pouring us free champagne and fed us cookies! We weren't waiting that long but it was a nice way to pass the time. At the restaurant there was a nice tasting menu with everything from a tasty amuse bouche to dessert. I would come back here any time

Been wanting to try this place for years. Finally did & I can't come back sooner. The service was awesome, it's a lowkey place but great for conversation. Textures & flavor dimension was amazing. The lambchops & their sauce was so packed full of flavor. Broccolini & the scallops with carrot puree... again can't wait to be back.

Fois Gras was delicious. Tomahawk steak was delicious. Mashed potatoes have a very mouth watering texture. Mystery wine was worth it. Pork was super juicy with flavorful chimichurri

Grade A (95): Updated, this place closed down mainly because of bad location, it had great food, a great chef, unbelievable NY Steak and great burgers among other things, to bad they couldn't last. It's a shame.

Altaeats is both an Altadena treasure and a staple - the kind of place you return to time and time again because the food is consistently excellent and the staff could not be warmer. The Ceasar salad is spectacular, as are the scallops, burger and Wednesday Chef's tasting menu. Tuesday "Flights and Bites" - 3 amuse bouche paired with three wines - changes weekly and is both a bargain and a delight. This is the kind of place you want to keep to yourself - but too good not to publicly celebrate. Thank you to Paul, Dalton and the entire team for creating a local space that feels like home - but tastes much better! Also, as others have mentioned, the price point is excellent - but again, no skimping on quality or sophistication!

We were seated outside and they hardly came around. The meats (lamb and Wellington) were cooked perfectly but the flavor was meh. I’d like to give it another try as it seems like a nice place.

AltaEats offers a culinary journey with highs and lows. This was my second visit to AltaEats. The first time was a 5 out 5. This visit offered inconsistency in both food and service. The salads (burrata and caesar) at AltaEats were a standout, offering fresh and flavorful combinations. Make sure to the delicious bacon-wrapped dates; a delightful blend of sweet and savory. The rib eye was okay. It didn't quite live up to our expectations. The bread & butter and pot de creme were both delicious. We fought over the lest bits of the desert. The service was a mixed. One waitress, notably wearing a provocative necklace, left much to be desired in terms of friendliness and professionalism. On the other hand, the second waitress provided exceptional service, going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience AltaEats offers a culinary adventure with standout dishes and a mix of service experiences. Your experiences may vary. They did for me.

Consistently, the best food in Altadena!! Chef Paul makes every dish here, remarkable. We had the Tasting Menu last night, and every dish was fantastic. Highlight was the final entree: Steak Oscar - it was cook perfectly, and the sauce was amazing! The pate' was also incredible - we took the leftovers home to enjoy it again! Cozy atmosphere - perfect for a date night or even a special group dinner. We did a special event here a few months ago, and everyone raved about the food & how much they enjoyed the space. Cannot say enough - we highly recommend Alta Eats!

My darling friend asked if I was available to join her here for the Tuesday Flight & Bites. I hadn't seen her in a few months and was happily obliged. Locally owned & operated, this charming little restaurant provides a fine dining experience without breaking your wallet. The menu offerings are eclectic, and the wine selections are from all over the world. (You are welcome to try before purchasing.) The atmosphere is warm & inviting and the staff are polite & hospitable. Chef/owner Paul personally walked around to each table greeting guests and checked to make sure everything was ok with their meal. The Tuesday Flights & Bites is a great deal for $20. You get three curated wines (Chardonnay, Rosé, & Cabernet). Chef Paul prepares a specialty gourmet bite to go with each. This evening we had Chardonnay paired with Sautéed shrimp & polenta, Rosé paired with fried Brie, and Chardonnay paired with a morsel of steak. The food pairings were exquisite and complimentary. My friend said the steak was buttery and tender. She was happy to have my serving. We ended our evening with a nice glass of bubbly. I selected Jansz, which was a sparkling Rosé from Tasmania, and my friend the Cremant de Bourgogne (France). They were both lovely. We really enjoyed our girls night out at AltaEats. *Tuesday Flights & Bites 5:30 pm - 7 pm $20 *Hump Day 4 course Tasting Menu ($125/2 people with wine pairing.)

Specifically love the Roastie option the restaurant does! It's a $40 for 2 people/$80 for 4 (oversized portions) of salad, bread (soft loaf almost pretzel like), main, and usually two sides! We normally get the chicken ones because the seasoning is sooo good, we especially love the green beans, and the mac and cheese is 11/10. You order by calling ahead that day then pickup only (but worth swinging by.) Hope you get them too!

We came in for an evening dinner on a Sunday. We made reservations a week ahead of time. We got seated right away and started order once settled. We ordered the Brussels sprouts and Bread & Butter as appetizers. Both were amazing! The Sprouts had cheese and broccoli in it which made for an interesting combination. The spread for the bread was butter and cinnamon - weird but amazingly delicious. I ordered the Beef Wilmington - the first I've ever had. I'd say it was an absolutely, fantastic meal. My friend said it was what the restaurant was known for. The pastry portion wasn't too soggy, it complimented the beef really well and the sauce that came with it was a little extra boost to the overall meal. I would definitely come back again for the Beef Wellington! Overall the ambiance was nice. Not too noisy and they provided an abundance of water. We finished our meal and lingered around for a good 40 minutes just chatting away until we were ready to head our.

Amazing services and food. This is my second time coming here, the first time was on a Wednesday tasting menu and then again today. While the menu is quite small, they have a large variety of meats. Excellent service above and beyond.

Love AltaEats! I've been coming since back in the days with no liquor license and we would buy some hooch at the liquor store next door. Lots of things have changed but not the consistently delicious food and friendly people. Skip the corporate chains and enjoy this terrific local business.

Everything here is good! My husband and I love their homemade bread, their steaks and their salads. The wine selection is lovely too. The best kept secret is the Roastie, elevated take out food good enough to serve to dinner guests.

What a wonderful and delightful experience! Cozy, quiet and relaxing atmosphere. We love sitting at the counter and watching the kitchen in action.. Chef Paul is wonderful and the warm bread right out of the oven with two kinds of butter.. Fabulous food And wine. Highly recommend!

My husband surprised me with dinner reservations this past Saturday for our anniversary. It was a wonderful surprise because we have been wanting to try AltaEats for a while. We were not disappointed! The moment we entered the establishment, it was a one of the most enjoyable times of dinning out that we had in a very long time. We started out with the whipped butter and bread, the olive tapenade and the mushroom risotto. The risotto is an entree but we love risotto and wanted to try it. Everything, delicious. I started with a glass of bubbles, Cremant de Bourgogne. Perfect with the appetizers, not dry. For our main course, I had the rack of lamb and my husband had the beef Wellington. Nothing bad to say. As a matter of fact, my husband and I were speechless of just how good it was and cooked to perfection. We just sat quietly and enjoyably ate our delicious meal. The way the food was plated and cooked, showed us that the staff, the Chef and along with the owners care about what they do. I had a glass of Forager Pinot Noir from Sonoma. Perfect with the meal. Service was impeccable. Our server was Marisol. Great knowledge of food and great conversationalist. She made my husband I feel very special at our anniversary dinner. She has a wonderful impact on people. We also met Paul, executive Chef and Owner who came by our table to wish us a happy anniversary and we talked about Altadena local. He also has a great impact of the people dinning at his establishment. Ambience was beautiful and what made it even more special was the music choices. Great tracks of music! Over all, great experience! Needless, to say, we will be coming back but as regulars.

Fantastic dinner at this cute place in Altadena. A delicious amuse-bouche of a cold beet and strawberry soup was brought to our table by our charming server. We then shared the arugula salad, the bread with special butter, the olives and an amazingly delicious porterhouse steak, cooked to medium rare perfection! We also had the asparagus and string beans and the garlic mashed potatoes. It was a very warm night so our server suggested a chilled Beaujolais wine to accompany this sumptuous meal. We ended up sharing the apple tart and the panna cotta. We were celebrating the upcoming birthday of our daughter's bf, so it was an absolutely perfect evening for 4 hungry guests! I highly recommend AltaEats and look forward to our next delicious meal there!

Wonderful locals spot. Locally owned and operated. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, AltaEats is one of our favorite places to dine in Pasadena/Altadena. We are still eating our way through the menu and so far everything has been great :) Try the Roastie take home meal!! What a great deal. Or the surprise bottle of red for $50.

Came to this amazing local restaurant for a parent date night. We had an intimate fun evening and will definitely make it a monthly ritual. Met the chef and staff all great people, and the food! Recommending to all our friends and family, thanks @altaeats

Food is always simple and delicious as well as good service! The tomohawk steak meal at New Years my husband still raves about how great it was!! So happy to have them in the neighborhood!

This is a place I really wanted to love. It's an independently owned neighborhood gem with what many described as amazing dishes and atmosphere. It also means I don't have to travel to DTLA for amazing dishes. But everything others raved about just wasn't evident with my own experience. Starting with my first contact. I saw some year old photos of tasting menu items, so I called to ask. The gal on the phone didn't know what a tasting menu was, and also didn't know what they offered. After placing me on a few brief holds, she said the manager/chef will call me back the next day to tell me about the menu. Never got the call. We went ahead and booked a table. That night, the place was starting to fill up before 6. We were seated promptly but at a small table that had trouble holding more than 2 dishes, and was so close to another table, I was afraid I would accidentally hit them. Conversations had to be kept non discreet. It was a bit uncomfortable. Or as some would say 'cozy'. The food: Started off with the octopus w arugula and vinaigrette. Very thinly sliced octopus in a tart dressing. Light, decent but not worth it. Roasted cauliflower w Moroccan sauce. Delicious with bold flavors in each bite. Near highlight of the evening. Entrees: Delmonico steak & frites. Not bad but for a med rare steak, there were some dry and med-well parts. And the herb butter that was supposed to be drizzled on top, was not there. According to our server, the fish special; Seared Kamachi is like sushi grade seared ahi tuna. Ahi is supposed to be seared on the outside and pretty raw inside. The Kamachi was cooked throughout and very very salty. Besides some garnish on top, it didn't come with anything else. Not worth it. The warm mixed olive plate was exactly that. Two types of olives, olive tapenade and toast. It's good but something we can throw together at home easy. Nothing impressive. Our server was friendly, though her descriptions of the menu items were off. But it wasn't until we got our check that another incredibly nice lady came over and wished me a happy birthday, and offered me a dessert. Learning we had to leave, she had the kitchen whip up a house-made apple cobbler to bake at home. It was a wonderful gesture that made up for an otherwise disappointing dinner experience. In my eyes, AltaEats is s popular place amongst a certain crowd, but the food and service is inconsistent with the image painted by other reviews. Both the food & service was average (except the last lady, whom the owners should promote to manager) They will continue to do well I suppose, but I doubt I'll go back.

I ordered the Beef Wellington which was incredibly delicious! Also, had the Morada salad, and the chicken. Everything was superb, nice size portions, and quality food. We'll be back!

This was our first time at Alta Eats. We started with a Cesar salad which was so good. I didn't know I liked anchovies in my salad but this dish did so just right and blew me away! For the main entree we ordered the beef Wellington; it was so good that it just melted in your mouth. For dessert my daughter picked the chocolate mousse which was also really good - savory not overly sweet. The service was amazing and the vibe was very relaxing. Loved this lil restaurant can't wait to come back.

Very best restaurant in the area. We are so fortunate to have it close by, and we have never had a meal that wasn't superb. The quality of the food served and the service given is exceptional.

AltaEats is a hidden gem in Altadena, a high caliber restaurant in a very quiet neighborhood (so quiet, if you were the conspiracy type, one has to wonder if zombies were lurking). From steaming hot bread & butter, monstrous sized salad, main course to dessert, everything was right on the money, if not exceeded expectation. Prices are reasonable. It's money well spent. Sincerely wish this place lives long and prospers!

We were so excited to finally dine at Altaeats. My husband and I would visit with our good friends and clients for dinner often prior to our new Covid 19 mandate. Last night was the first time back since they reopened. We appreciate the new protocols they've integrated for Covid 19. Temperature checks before entering, everyone wore masks who are serving, customers wearing masks until they are seated, socially distanced/spaced tables and disinfected shared devjces(iPad payment). We ordered the bacon wrapped dates, quinoa arugula salad, filet, chicken and seared duck. Everyone's portions were as expected but my seared duck entree. I've enjoyed their seared duck before and was excited to have it again. When it came, I was a bit surprised. It was 2 slices over a few pieces of asparagus. I should've said something but did not want to ruin the evening with our dear friends we haven't seen in a while. I shared my concerns with my husband on the drive home and he did agree, for $29, the dish should be the whole breast, not two slices. I do not like to write bad reviews and I know this restaurant was good with switching to curbside and business continued without much disruption aside from no in restaurant dining till last week but this is not acceptable. I hope management reads this and try to improve their meal presentation and offerings or at least tell their customers, "our seared duck is two slices of breast and what we used to serve is no longer what you should expect in your seared duck Main entree". I am disappointed and I don't think I'll dine here again. So sad....so many great meals and memories the last 6 years we've dined here.

When the wifey says that she's so happy from tonights dinner, that's all I need to know Altaeats will make our restaurant rotation. First timers at Altaeats, but we came with an appetite an open-minds. There's no indication that we made it to the right place since the windows are covered, but the address says we were at the right place. Dinner started with a shared phenomenal beet salad that had ?? walnut covered cheese something that was a great compliment. The evening is starting good. Bread was ordered that came with herbed butter and cinnamon sugar butter choices (just like Sunday mornings as a kid). Wifey ordered; yes, the Beef Wellington special in which she oo'd and ahh'd with every bite. Tender and tasty. She really enjoyed the mushroom sauce. I ordered the Veal Chop; never had veal before and I wish I ordered the Tomahawk steak. Still deciding if I like Veal. We ordered mashed potatoes and grilled brocollini- excellent! It's hard to enjoy the main dishes if the sides aren't worthy. We capped off the dinner with a great apple tart. Not too sweet, crispy and flacky crust - thankfully no raisins!! All in all an excellent evening. Thanks to Matt (Sous Chef) for recommending Altaeats as I met him a few days earlier through a mutual friend in Montrose. Great surprises happen out of the blue. Our host and wait staff was on point and so gracious. Such a great evening!!

A lovely, unassuming gem of find tucked away in an Altadena neighborhood. Look for the name on the doormat, otherwise you will miss it. Thanks to a dear friend giving us a lovely gift card for an evening out, Altaeats came to fruition. Afterall, we were celebrating two birthdays in one week, so we decided to go all out. They have a lovely wine list, reasonably priced for what they are offering. Appetizers: Started with the duck hash and poached egg on top.... not going to lie, we were super excited about this, but it was just average and luke warm at that. Our steamed mussels in a garlic and white wine broth made up for the hash, which was quickly forgotten. Absolutely delicious right down to the last drop to be sopped up with grilled bread. Entrees: Chicken breast milanese, pounded thin, breaded, and fried to a perfect crisp... served on a bed of spicy polenta. Complimented by creamy lemon caper sauce. Wonderful. Petit rack of lamb served with broccolini and garlic mashed potatoes. Rack of lamb was superb, cooked medium rare wth lots of garlic and robust flavor. Broccolini also delicious. Garlic mashed potatoes... terrible. No flavor, no garlic, no salt, no nothing. Sorry, but I think some ingredients were forgotten along the way. Scallops of the day... oh my goodness... hands down the best dish of the evening. Seared perfectly, served on a bed of lemon risotto with zucchini. Outstanding. Wish I didn't have to share it. Dessert: Don't miss it. Both were out of the world. Apple turnover with home made whip cream, and chocolate mouse covered in chocolate ganache ... heavenly. All in all this was an amazing experience and we will be back.

I asked an Altadena group page on Facebook everyone's favorite places to eat in and around the area and this was the most mentioned by everyone. First time here and it did not disappoint. Came in early to be able to enjoy staff and chef. Chef Paul was super gracious and friendly. We talked about the restaurant and the little details you would have to come in to understand and enjoy. Definitely coming back. The steak tar tar and duck breast were my favorite. So much more to come back for. Thank you Samantha and Paul for an incredible night.

It was a nice place, enjoyed our food. Unfortunately in todays world we find most restaurants are becoming lazy and don't work to provide a good eating environment with good food.

I was watching ABC 7 and saw the incredible work Paul, his daughter, and his fabulous team does in generously donating food to first responders and people in need. There's so much kindness in their hearts so a big thumbs up to AltaEats! Their menu is so diverse and looks absolutely delicious.

Came here with friends. We got chicken, fish and tomahawk steak for two. Best dish was the chicken. The dry aged tomahawk steak was under-seasoned, dry and didn't have a sear/crust. We ordered it medium rare. I don't understand why it was so dry, maybe they didn't rest the steak before cutting it. Mostly disappointed by the food, except for the chicken which was very good. This place is pricey, I expected higher quality.

We heard about this place through our realtor who lives in Altadena. It's such a hidden place since there's no sign or valet parking like other fancy restaurants do. You will easily miss it this place if driving too fast. It turns out it was right across street from the Armen Market on Allen. When first couples of dishes arrived, they were interesting. But after more dishes, they started to taste the same to us - cumin spice. For the area that it's in, this restaurant is great because it definitely is unique. But it did get kinda boring once all our dishes start to taste kinda similar.

AltaEats is an All-Star during these pandemic times. Throughout all the stress of working in the hospital setting and having to quarantine, I can appreciate AltaEats for pulling through and make the stress a little less stress-like. They have been offering Emma's Pantry for healthcare workers on Thursdays and the graciousness that is Emma's Pantry has been a blessing. The pasta was a lot better than I expected; even the bread was the best supplement. That sauce for the salad though, I can eat all day. The other dish we were able to gratefully try is the coconut curry chicken breast. Man, I got to learn how they make the meat so tender and soft like that. All of us are ever grateful. Thank you AltaEats!

It's official - if you're looking for that quintessential neighborhood joint for a nice family dinner out, look no further than AltaEats! I'm glad I found this hidden gem! We came here for brunch on a Sunday and found the food to be delicious, the service friendly and refined, and the atmosphere sophisticated yet cozy. I had the chocolate banana bread with plantains (sweet but not too sweet, and the plantains, cooked perfectly, gave the dish a unique layer of flavor and texture). My family member had the fried chicken with biscuits and a poached egg on top. The biscuits were buttery and flaky, and it was unique to have both a poached egg and fried chicken stacked on top of each other - it made for a perfect bite. The service was attentive and friendly, and they kept our glasses full of sparkling water, which was a nice touch for brunch. Honestly, hands down this is the best restaurant in the area. This is top-tier DTLA or West LA quality food right in your backyard.

Went here the other night and the food was okay and the service was okay. My guess is they aren't hurting for business as they don't even have a sign. We ordered the beef Wellington, bacon wrapped dates, and the rack of lamb. The romesco sauce on the dates was delicious and the bacon was of course tasty but I wouldn't say with the dates it was a perfect match perhaps it was the blue cheese that threw it off. The rack of lamb was cooked to a perfect medium rare but didn't have much flavor seasoning wise. I've never had beef Wellington and it was kind of what I was expecting from an English dish. A bit bland but nicely cooked, true medium rare, with the beef tenderloin extremely tender. Very strong pepper taste. I might give AltaEats another try but I'd give it a 3.5 for this visit. $108 for two

Dinner brought tonight to our door by good friends from the restaurant Altaeats. This restaurant has provided free Thursday night dinners over the past 3 months for Frontline workers. I cannot thank you enough Altaeats for your delicious meals for me and my family! What a gift!!! I work with Covid + patients in a hospital setting. What a stress relief to have dinner waiting after a long shift. God bless you!!!!

My wife and I came here for our anniversary last month. We'd always heard of it before but never have eaten here before. The food was good. My lamb which I asked for medium came out much more rare but still tasted good.. I REALLY wish they had an actual air conditioning system inside because we were sitting near the front right by the fan and it still was super hot inside. Made it a little uncomfortable to be honest. Maybe there is an AC inside but it sure didn't feel like it...

Alta Eats has an amazing dinner menu, which I'm sure is no surprise to anyone. BUT I'm here to give a shout ou to their brunch! I didnt really know they had brunch so I wasn't necesarily expecting to be blown away (A lot of restaurants with an amazing dinner offering phone it in when it comes to brunch.)
