Alteño

Finally made it out to Alteno, after making our reservations in January. It was well worth the wait. We got the opportunity to try a lot of the food and we were very happy with it. We started with the Carne Apache which was strip with homemade potato chips 8/10. We were advised that the Pan De Elote cornbread was a must try and it did not disappoint, if anything the portion was a little small 10/10. We also had the camote asado sweet potato, which was a very unique dish, great flavor and spice 10/10. We also got a guacamole for the table which was good, but nothing special 8/10. I had a crab and avocado salad which may have been my favorite dish of the night 10/10. My friend had the stuffed mushroom which was alright, nice amount of crab in the crabcake 8/10. We also had the bigger quesadilla gringa al pastor which was fantastic but different 9/10. For our entrees we had the chuleta de res, 32oz porterhouse which fell a little short. We did not love the mole that was served on it and our steak was a little overcooked from medium rare 7/10. The chicken dish we had was exceptional pollo a las brasas 10/10, fries were amazing as well! For dessert my friend ordered a tres leches and said it was alright, it looked good but I did not try. Our server had forgot to put in one of our entrees which was suppose to be the lamb shank. I guess things happen. All in all we really enjoyed our meal. Our tab was close to $400 before tip for 3 people but we did order a lot of food intentionally because it was our first time here. The server and hostess were all very friendly. The parking is never that easy in Cherry Creek, we were able to find street parking but our meal took almost 2 and a half hours, so it expired. We look forward to coming back here again in the near future! Great spot for a special occasion, just make sure you plan in advance as it’s hard to get a reservation.

Alteno delivers an elegant experience from the moment you arrive. The space is beautiful and polished and the hospitality is unmistakably top-tier from the hostess stand onward. We dined as a party of six. The menu’s small-plates format is designed for sharing. Our server, Kelsey, was impeccable. She was knowledgeable and thoughtful in guiding us through the menu with clear, detailed descriptions. One standout recommendation was the sweet potato dish by Alma Fonda Fina. Though it sounded simple on paper, it was exceptional and a favorite. The flavor depth and melt in your mouth texture made it one of the night’s highlights. The kanpachi tostada was my favorite. The flavors and texture were perfectly balanced with a gentle spicy flavor lingering. The avocado margarita was unique and delightful with a beautiful Hawaiian black salt and tajin rim adding a small amount of heat. Overall, Alteno offers reasonable pricing for a standout experience pairing elevated cuisine with impeccable service in a beautiful setting.

Alteno was just as amazing as Alma Fonda Fina! Everything from the atmosphere, to the service, and of course the food was a wonderful experience. They have a great drink menu to begin your meal. The Paloma was a very yummy drink and was so refreshing without being too over-powerful with the grapefruit. We started with the Guacamole and the Pan de Elote. That cornbread with the truffle honey butter was the best cornbread I have ever had! The next course we shared the Gringa Al Pastor and that was delicious. We finished with the ribeye which was so tender and flavorful. I love that each course they bring out, the chef recommends how to enjoy it. We cannot wait to go back!

We loved Alteño, and will definitely go back! We walked in and sat at the bar easily on a weekday afternoon. The service was wonderful and we tried several delicious dishes and were able to sample some amazing wine! Their commitment to cultivating amazing wine and spirit collections and making great food made our visit incredibly memorable. We’re looking forward to making reservations soon to have a full dinner there.

Amazing service. They were extremely attentive and would give us a set of new plate and silverware after almost every dish. The table would be cleaned as well while resetting the table once again. She was eager to assist with any questions asked and provide suggestions for most popular dishes. When each dish is served, they explain the ingredients and how the chef recommends doing prior to eating to get the most of the flavor. My favorite was the pan de elote. The butter used was such a nice pairing. I could eat that butter everyday. Every dish served had amazing flavors and I had no complaints about any of them. Would definitely come back again with friends!

The food was outstanding but why so over the top HOT?! No one at our table could handle the heat on 4/6 of our dishes. Wish they’d give some type of warning on the menu for that or something. Would have been much more enjoyable if they’d bring the heat down to a palatable amount (when 6 people at a table think it’s too hot it’s probably too hot). Would try again, with more questions about heat levels next time before ordering. AND why do they say the chicken is 40something ounces? It was Maybe 20 oz. And that’s being generous. I’m not the first person to say this either (read many review first).

Alteno is a stylish spot that works well for a date night or an evening out with your partner. The food overall is good, with bold flavors, though definitely on the spicier side, something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to heat. The cocktails, however, were a bit of a letdown. They often leaned too heavily into spice, and the bartenders seemed to overpour, which threw off the balance. The atmosphere is lively, but it comes with a high noise level, so you’ll find yourself speaking up to keep a conversation going. The table layout also puts diners very close together, almost shoulder to shoulder with strangers, which can feel uncomfortable if you prefer a little more privacy. Finding the restaurant was also tricky. The signage isn’t very clear, and we ended up circling the block to confirm parking. If you’re heading there, look for the sign that says Clayton to know you’re in the right place. On the positive side, the service stood out, with both the host and servers being excellent and welcoming. Overall, while we enjoyed trying Alteno, the drinks, noise, and setup make it unlikely we’ll return. Still, it was a good experience to check out once.

Alteño deserves all the stars. Every dish was beautifully done: Aguachile de Atún, Kanpachi Tostada, Gringa al Pastor, Pollo a Las Brasas and Flan con Caramelo de Mezcal. The mocktails are amazing, especially the Negroni. Kevin was outstanding, the kind of server that elevates the whole night. Stunning atmosphere, unforgettable food and drink. Highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing. Everything was great between the atmosphere, the food, and the service. I had an amazing first time here and will definitely be back.

Wow. The food was spectacular. Honestly everything was great and pretty much worth the hype. We went 4 adults and loved the experience. The waiters were very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us decide what to eat. We started off with 3 oysters and tuna tartar and the carne apache. Both were great and fresh. Then we shared the pan de elote (probably one of the best parts of the meal) and the stuffed mushroom which had a tomatillo green goddess dressing that they should sell by the bottle. I think the salad that accompanied the mushroom was the best part of the meal. We each got our own taco next. I had the taco de pancita that was delicious. Juicy and not too fatty (didn't not overpower the flavor). And we shared the lamb and the chicken for entrees. Let me tell you that that fries with the chicken are a mountain and the ones at the bottom covered in chicken droppings were to die for. We ate every last bite. The lam had garbanzos on the bottom and I think that should have been its own plate. The lamb was good but came with a thick corn tortilla that blunted the rest of the flavors. Would probably not get the lamb again, but the rest was fantastic. To finish we shared a tree leches that was a little on the dryer side compared to what I am used to, however it was fantastic either way. The vibe is dark and moody with happy music. Its loud with low ceilings. Not a place I'd bring young ones. But for an elevated dinning experience without outrageous price tags...this is the place.

Best corn bread! Service was great & so was the vibe. Everything was delicious- we especially loved the tacos.

Finally made it. Yes, it is super hard to get a time slot around dinner time. Just need to go out two months ahead. Nice welcome at the front, inside the hotel. There are two restaurants inside. If you are walking in from the Clayton street, its to your right. Noise: Yikes. We had few ladies at the larger table behind us who were so loud. They were competing with each other to take the gold medal for most obnoxious person at the dinner table. After they left, it was so quite that our waiter didn't have to yell to communicate. Service: definitely worth the 5 star experience. Not overly rushed or hovering around you but dirty dishes were taken away, water is filled in timely manner. Utensils and plates were changed out very frequently. Food: since we had 30 minutes till the end of HH, we ordered several things off the HH menu. Our waiter took time to explain about the restaurant and the chef and his experience. All of the offerings were shareable. For first timer here, I was glad to do some homework. Before coming here, I saved pic of dishes I wanted to try and glad I did. It's was bit dark, hard to read the menu. Personally, there were some unique dishes. Definitely lot of people taking advantage of HH.

One of my favorite Denver openings of 2025... from the famed team behind Michelin-star Alma Fonda Fina and Mezcaleria Alma. The food is an homage to Chef Curiel's father's roots in the Highlands of Jalisco, bringing together some of the best dishes from Curiel's other restaurants with a focus on wood-fired cooking. One of the menu highlights was honestly the Pan de Elote (a seemingly simple cornbread elevated with soft huitlacoche butter and shaved black truffles). Another big difference is the expanded wine menu from Curiel's other restaurants, which definitely fits the location. The space (formerly home to Kini's) has undergone a beautiful transformation and can seat large and small groups alike (whereas Curiel's other restaurants are more intimate). Lovely service too -- same training evident across the entire restaurant group.

This space has been many different restaurants and now part of the group with Alma Fonda Fina which has the Michelin star. The staff are super attentive and friendly. The decor is very pretty and really nice ambiance. They do have a happy hour which not all their restaurants have so I love that! I went around 4.30 so go to have food of both the happy hour and dinner menu. Of the things we tried the favorites were the toro, tostado, jalapeño corn bread and kanpachi. The queso was also really tasty and came with side items that I don't really think it needed. Can be tricky getting in, so make reservations in advance but well worth it! Enjoy!!

You can't go wrong with Alteno or any of the Alma restaurants for a special occasion, or if you just want a really great meal. Our server was Mel and she was fantastic, super knowledgeable about the menu, funny, and attentive. In our Open Table account, it noted it was our reservation even though it was 5 months away but Mel brought us some champagne to celebrate, how nice! Honestly at any of the Alma restaurants, you could close your eyes and point to anything on the menu and it would be fabulous. We got 2 ceviche, 2 tacos, a salad, and the steak and they were all wonderful. We had some leftover steak and Mel recommended us to make steak and eggs the next day and brought out some butter that would be great with it - it was indeed very good. Drinks are always good as well. I really appreciate that there are non alcoholic versions of their cocktails so I was able to try the avocado margarita - yum! No complaints whatsoever. The vibe is moody and dark and romantic, I am looking forward to coming back!

I had no idea this was a sister restaurant to Alma Fonda fina, we tried to get reservations there and they were booked. We actually got a 8:45 reservation here and ended up sitting and eating at the bar a little earlier. The bartender was super helpful & attentive. We ordered the kampachi tostada, queso fundudo, crab avocado salad, & the chile relleno. Everything was fantastic! I'm really surprised this was such a hopping restaurant for a hotel restaurant. Normally if I saw a restaurant in a hotel I would assume it wasn't great. Well that's not the case with this restaurant, great food, great service, and a moody dark atmosphere which I like!

Fantastic experience. Wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Very vibey spot, very relaxed and it was easy to settle in. I loved that they hung our coats up, it's a very nice touch. Food was top notch. Highlights were the cornbread, and the camote asado (roasted sweet potato). Taking a star away because our steak took 45 minutes... for medium rare... and there were quite a few tough spots with lots of gristle. For $60, I would've expected a better cut of meat. No dessert menu, either. The desserts didn't stand out as anything unique (like the rest of the menu). A simple chocolate cake, some tres leches, or flan. I feel like more unique options would have been more appropriate. I did enjoy the experience, the price is awesome for what you get, and the food is delicious. Make sure to grab some matches on the way out!

Wow, only great things to report about this amazing spot! The food is outstanding, we didn't have a single miss. Definitely try the queso while you're here! Service was wonderful and they treated us super well for a birthday outing. And the decor! It is absolutely stunning, no notes. I loved all the elegant little details all over the restaurant.

Glad I checked out Alteno, while in Denver. Note: it's easier to get a reservation here than Alma Fonda Fina - but don't get caught lacking. Make the reservation at least a week or two out. Cuisine: 4/5. Solid. Pan de Elote, Queso Fudido, Carne Asada taco. Filling. Tasty. And worth it. The prime rib eye was delicious in the taco. The pan de elote was buttery goodness. And the queso fundido was rich and flavorful. Beverages: 4/5. Negroni and the Old Fashioned. Yup. Service: Epic. 5/5. Aya and Camille answered questions and made great recommendations (Flan). I came for happy hour with a couple of friends and I would definitely do it again. The Volcan Al pastor for $10 was delicious and I also got a HH cocktail for $11. Our server recommended the pan de elote (cornbread) and I also see a lot of recommendations on here for it. While it was good, I don't think any of us thought it was worth the $19 (not on HH). I wanted to order more food and drinks, but our server didn't come by again before happy hour was over so that was annoying. There was also a 2% credit card surcharge.

Came in for just drinks one Wednesday night where not a lot places were open. We were able to snag two seats at the bar. The staff were welcoming and nice. Most of their cocktails were tequila based, but that was not a problem for me. The drinks were good. My boyfriend got an old fashioned and I got the Carajillo. The Carajillo was fabulous if you like mezcal and coffee! Would definitely come back to actually try the menu! Need to update this once that happens.

This was a one-of-a-kind experience. I love to come in with a small group of other yelpers and try new restaurants, as we all share plates and get to try so many things. I'm really excited that we got to do this here because this was one of the top dining experiences I've had recently in Denver. It's inside the Clayton hotel, which has such a cute lobby, and the restaurant is moody and well decorated, with sultry lighting and modern Mexican Decor. We started with some drinks, the avocado margarita was delicious, a little bit of a spicy cake with a yummy black salt rim. My friend had the hibiscus margarita, which was also really good. We shared the camote asada - so good, easily could have been my favorite dish at another restaurant, but here the other plates we had even topped this. Next came the truffle jalapeño cornbread, absolutely delicious. Has that crispy crust that goes so well with the warm doughy inside, smothered in this delicious truffle butter melting into it. So good. We almost ordered a second one, but decided to try the Aguachile instead. I'm so glad we did, this was an amazing flavorful experience, with the juice bringing in a fruity component, along with the pomegranate seeds and almonds for texture, and the fish was so fresh. This was a very unique dish. We had the gringa al pastor - possibly the best plate of the night, the pork was insane, exactly as it should taste, like a taco stand in Mexico. And the tortilla for the quesadilla was so rich, the sauces and toppings just made it incredible. We ended with the Carne Asada, it took forever to come out, but was (i think?) a sous vide because it was cooked to absolute perfection. It came with a rice and beans sauce, but on the side, and a very limited amount, as well as a sauce that almost reminded me of A1. This was my least favorite dish of the night, although the steak was so well cooked and seasoned, it could have used the sauce or component to bring the flavor profile and overall plate to the next level like we experienced with some of the earlier dishes Still, for Denver this is a top spot, can't wait to come back and try more things

Had a FANTASTIC meal at Alteno. Came in for my birthday. The ambience is dark and cozy. We ordered oysters and 4 dishes as well as 2 desserts and left stuffed. Everything we got was delicious, it was hard to pick a favorite. Even things that sound simple, like the crab and avocado salad, was SO good. The ONLY negative is that the desserts weren't our favorite. Service was very friendly and they gave us a small glass of bubbly to celebrate the birthday. It's definitely a special occasion meal but I can't wait to return.

I don't say this lightly- this is easily one of my favorite spots in Denver. You absolutely need to get the avocado margarita and the Pan De Elote is a must have. The service was amazing and each course came out perfectly timed

I went for an early dinner and was glad I did not have much to eat before because this family-style meal was very filling. Having perused the menu before arriving due to my allergies, I knew what I wanted to order. Our server was very helpful in making sure my choices were appropriate and describing each of the dishes to us. * Stuffed Mushroom: more like a crab cake on top of a portobello mushroom, but so flavorful. Our server suggested cutting it up and mixing it with the greens it came with. Amazing! * Pan De Elote: Jalapeño cornbread was worth the wait. The little crisp part on the bottom, paired with the moist cake, was a perfect mix of savory, sweet, and spice. Yum! * Carne Asada: 14-oz Prime Ribeye cooked to a perfect medium rare pairs well with huitaloche butter, salsa macha, or the pico de gallo that came with the rice and beans. (It's definitely a plate to share!) * Camote Asado: A favorite from Alma, this is what I usually get for dessert. It did taste a bit different, but it was still good. I do like that Alma keeps the fennel whipped Requesón cold so it tastes more like whipped cream. Overall, it was a very memorable and lovely experience. It is hard to compare Chef Curiel's restaurants; I think that is his intent. Each has its own personality, so each will provide you with a different experience.

Phenomenal food! Alteno comes to us from the same mastermind of Alma Fonda Fina and Mezcaleria Alma--There are few more around the city in Johnny Curiel's repertoire as well, but Alteno and Alma Fonda Fina are the breakout winners for me. (Mostly because I haven't tried any others-ha). Highlights of the menu include: the fan favorite, Pan de Elote, the Stuffed Mushroom- that crab was amazing, better than anything I've had on the East coast, the Carne Asada, and once again the famous and delicious Camote Asado. Our server was very knowledgeable and took great care of us throughout our whole time dining. It's a family style affair for sure. Come hungry and come ready to taste the flavors of Jalisco!

It's really hard to go wrong here. From the ambience, service and food, everything is really top tier. My friend and I shared one entree, two smaller plates and a dessert and it was more than enough food. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu but the pan de elote seems like a must order. I quite literally licked the extra truffle infused butter of the spoon it was that good. The halibut dish was super flavorful though halibut is a bit meatier of a fish than I like so I would have preferred a fattier fish. The rice it comes with is super buttery and without a dish the best rice I've had. The tres leches for dessert was equally perfect The space itself is located in the Clayton hotel and much larger than Johnny Curiel's other restaurants but it's not any easier to get a reservation! Dishes were cleared after each new item arrived and everything was timed seemingly perfectly I was celebrating my birthday and not only did they provide complimentary champagne (or mezcal or tequila shots), but everyone from our waiter to the hostess to other servers wished me a happy birthday

Unfortunately not much on the menu I could eat but the guacamole was amazing - small portion with lots of chips but not quite enough guac had lots of chips left over. The mex75 was the highlight and I'd come back for that all day! I had 3!! . Hopefully I'll fair better during my reservation at Alma Fonda fina later this month. Wanted to move this place since we live in the area but bartender was either clueless or not super helpful since she couldn't come up with a single item for me to eat with a fish / dairy allergy.

We loved Johnny Curiel's more casual place in Lower Highlands, Alma Fonda Fina, but were eager to try this more upscale spot in Cherry Creek North. It took months to get a reservation and then my friend had an issue and we had to reschedule, so we've been waiting four and one half months for this dinner. OMG! Worth every minute of the wait. Ten stars! Twenty stars!! Thirty stars!!! Pretty close to the best meal I've ever had. Amazing. Astounding. I'll savor this for the rest of my life. The restaurant occupies the north lobby space in the Clayton Hotel, Cherry Creek North. It has been completely transformed from the previous tenant and is gorgeous, welcoming, and comfortable. The staff was extremely gracious, totally knowledgeable about the menu and the concept, and very efficient. The kitchen was quick and the staff never lost their calm efficiency, although the restaurant became very crowded by 6:00 p.m. The server suggested sharing one item from each of the four sections of the menu and that's what we did. We started with the Baked Hokkaido Scallops in serrano butter, citrus salsa negra, fresh lime, and scallions. These absolutely melted in our mouths. Perfectly cooked and extremely tender with a nice amount of heat. Next was the Enchilada Suiza with roasted, skin-on chicken, salsa tomatillo, queso Oaxaca, and pickled red onion. Very flavorful. The server particularly recommended the Pan de Elote and she was right. This is jalapeño cornbread with huitlacoche butter, smoked honey, and black truffle (cooked to order). My friend's favorite. Absolutely perfect texture, great flavor, amazing compound butter. Finally, we had the Lubina Rayanada. Pacific striped bass, caper and olive broth, roasted tomatillos, and butter rice. The perfect portion, delicious sauce, exquisite fish, and unctuous rice. A great conclusion to the meal. We were stuffed, so we didn't consider dessert. I'm sure we missed out on something great. We can't wait to return. This place is something special.

Chef Johnny's newest restaurant is nestled under a swank hotel. My partner and i have been dining at his restaurants since he opened Alma Fonda in LoHi and we have never been disappointed with any of the dishes nor service provided. This concept is supposed to represent rustic food in the style of a camping experience. The food is humble yet divine and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Yet another great addition to the Colorado food scene. Get your reservations now before Michelin slaps an award on this one as well. (p.s do NOT miss the cornbread w/ truffle butter)

We found the best restaurant in Denver. The service was great and we loved the recommendations from our server. The restaurant had nice decor, though we asked to be moved to a table with better lighting. The hamachi and uni tostada was a standout. Everyone loved the jalapeno cornbread and gringa al pastor as well. I thought that the entrees (chicken and fish) were just okay. I also wouldn't recommend the baked scallops. The drinks were fantastic and my favorite was the avocado margarita.

We have been to two other restaurants from Johnny Curiel. Alteno was another unique experience and one we would definitely repeat. We started with the Pan Elotes since our waitress mentions it was a signature items. It truely is unique and delicious. It seemed like every table our us had gotten it as well. Then we had another appetizer - the raw big eyed tuna which we agreed we could have eatten another order of because it just melted in your mouth and had this tart yet simple and fresh vibe to it. We then moved on to the queso which came with incredible tortilla like bread. Of course they only provided 2 (1 for each of us) and we had to ask for another 2 in order to finish the dish. That part is annoying - just bring out 2 tortilla for each person to start. Then we finished off the meal with the main course - Al Pastor. It was incredibly flavorful. Our waitress was amazing! She was attentive, informative, and give us some great tips on how to consume some of the dishes, bringing us different sauces to experience with them.

Alteno has been on my list since it opened. The food and service were wonderful Drinks: hibiscus and their popular avocado margs. Fabulous Baked Hokkaido Scallop - OMG must get. The sauce was incredible *Kanpachi Tostada - also very good flavor and texture with a little kick from their creamy spicy sauce. Doesn't have a strong uni flavor at all. Pan de Elote - shaved truffles on the butter. It was fabulous. We wouldn't let them take it away from the table, although we were getting full. Crab and Avocado - the portio was perfect for 2 to share. Fresh butter lettuce and plenty of blue crab, we ate it like lettuce wraps. Lubina Rayada Pacific Striped Bass / Caper & Olive Broth / Roasted Tomatillos / Butter Rice - ok, the bass itself was delightful. The skin was super crispy, and the caper and olive sauce were pretty good. But the butter rice was way too rich for me, half to half ratio of butter and water. Oof. Thank goodness I had my physical last week. But, it wasn't my personal favorite. The ambiance was very nice, dim and romantic but enough light to see the menu and decor was beautiful.

Alteño delivers an elevated dining experience with bold flavors and exceptional service. The Kanpachi Tostada was a out of the ordinary dish with fresh Baja kanpachi, creamy avocado, and the perfect touch of heat. Equally impressive, the Baked Hokkaido Scallops melted in the mouth, complemented by the rich serrano butter. Among other things that we ordered were the Queso fundido - their sourdough tortilla was quite interesting. The al pastor came in almost like a pizza and the pibil taco was tasty as well, a bit tangy. My friend got the chili relleno and that was really a stand out dish. For desserts, definitely don't skip the flan, probably one of the best flans I've had in Denver - the pistachio crumble made it enjoyable! Service was excellent.. attentive without being intrusive and a special touch was the chef personally coming by to deliver few of the dishes. If you're looking for refined Mexican-inspired cuisine with top-notch hospitality, Alteño is a must-visit! Great addition to the Cherry creek neighbourhood.

A true gem in Denver-- I was in town for a quick work trip from Los Angeles, and had just one free evening to explore. This was my first time in the city, and from the moment I walked in, I felt very taken care of. The ambiance strikes that perfect balance: warm, elevated, and effortlessly cool. You can tell there's heart behind everything here--from the service to the plating. I ordered a little of everything: Aguachile De Atún - Bright, refreshing, very fresh tuna and unique with the addition of apples. Carne Apache - Packed with flavor, great pairing with the chips, and incredibly fresh. Costra de Ribeye Taco - Rich, crispy, melt-in-your-mouth, savored every bite. Merengue-Topped Chocolate Cake - A perfect ending. Decadent, but not heavy, with just the right touch of sweetness and texture. Every dish was dialed in, and the staff made the experience even better--attentive without hovering, genuinely kind, and clearly passionate about the food. This isn't just a meal--it's a memory. Everyone around me seemed to be having the same experience that I did. Highly recommend.

This restaurant is absolutely worth a try. I found it on Yelp and decided to visit based on the reviews. I entered through the wrong door as I was supposed to use the hotel entrance and not the one on the street. Once I got over my confusion, I was able to take a seat at the bar. The restaurant is beautiful and intimate. I saw several reviews on the sweet potato dish and I really enjoyed it. It had a really distinctive taste and paired well with the whipped cream. I also had an enchilada which had a nice, tangy taste. I got the tres leches cake as well and it was light despite being drenched in different types of milk. The servers were very nice and engaging. I would definitely recommend.

This upscale Jaliscan restaurant is located in the lobby of the Clayton Hotel. It's a beautiful space. We had an extra person join us for our reservation of four, but the receptionist moved things around to get us seated on time without making too much of a fuss. We tried a few drinks which were all good. The standout was the Avocado Margarita--a little spicy, but delicious. All the food we ordered was very good to outstanding. The standouts were probably the Lubina Rayada and the Chile Relleno with huitlacoche. For the latter, I was a little concerned about eating corn smut (Mycosarcoma maydis), but I'm so glad the server recommended it. The presentation of the food was also beautiful. One small complaint might be to increase the number of options for vegetarians and pescatarians. The service was outstanding. Our water glasses were never lower than half full, the table was cleaned between platings, and silverware was routinely exchanged. I think I only had to flag down a server once. I was singing, not crying when I got the check, which I found to be more than reasonable for comparable fine dining establishments. Needless to say, I shall return.

We walked here for dinner and definitely were not disappointed. The good, service and ambiance are all great. We sat outside for fun people watching. The hamachi was fresh, refreshing and beautifully inspired with Mexican flavor. The stuffed mushroom was good, being a coastal person I know crab is hard to get. It was more of a crab cake on top of a mushroom, which made it nicer. The chicken enchiladas were only dish we didn't love, the chicken, sauce and flavor was great but the cheese was rubbery. The lamb shank was amazing! The meat fell off the bone, flavor was amazing. I asked for a spicy margarita and they crushed a halapeno pepper into it. I'd rather they infuse a tequila. We'd definitely come back!

After dining at Alma Fonda multiple times we made the drive to Cherry Creek to check out this sister restaurant. Overall wonderful experience, similar to our times at Alma. We started with an avocado margarita and a beer- both great! I switched to the hibiscus margarita and was equally happy with it! We tried the guacamole (avocado a las brasas), pan de elote, gringa al pastor, and for our main we had the pollo a las brasas. We would give the guacamole and pan de elote a 10/10! Truly amazing flavors that make you go "yum" The gringa al pastor was equally delicious but beware that it can be filling!! Our main was the chicken - which is the only "food" picture I took for the night because it was so surprising. The portion of the chicken was incredibly small- so small my husband had put the whole portion on his plate expecting there to be another half under it for myself. Especially when compared to the MOUNTAIN of French fries. Don't get us wrong, the flavors of the chicken and the fries were out of this world- I'm just confused why they would give us 10 servings of French fries and barely 1 serving of chicken to share. All other portions were very appropriate and worth the money... $41 for one small piece of chicken and triple the amount of fries not so much. Also to add- staff was amazing. Servers and supportive staff were attentive, kind, and a joy to chat with.

10/10!!! If you've been to Alma Fonda fina, you know the quality of food and service you're about to have! Alteno is the sister restaurant with an even better menu in my opinion, and a larger space. Highly recommend for your next date night or special occasion!

It is a pretty space with nice seating options. The service was lovely, really personable and helpful. I have absolutely no complaints. The food was very good. Other than the sweet potato, I don't think I ate anything that I will crave. My avocado margarita was sensational. I would not have ordered it if my server had not recommended and I am so glad she did because it was special. Prices were reasonable for our party of 6.

Another slam dunk! Located in cherry creek, Alteno is poppin! Gorgeous decor, friendly staff and most important delicious food!! We've done Alma and Mezcalaria and were excited to try Alteno (they just opened in March). Space is much bigger than the other 2 so getting a spot at a reasonable time is much more feasible. What you must order (my pics are lackluster because I got too excited to eat) in priority rank: - Tostada - has uni, fresh fish, a spicy salsa, creamy avocados and sauce and just a little citrusy. I'll take 2 please! - Aguachile - refreshing, the sauce is incredible, fish is fresh and the apple and fennel that's served with it adds to the lightness - Crab stuffed mushroom - this is divineeee. Felt a little southern. Essentially a crab cake on a flattened mushroom with delicious remoulade and arugula salad. So so good! - Pan de Elote - jalapeño cornbread that was moist and served with truffle butter. There were crispy bits on the bread that added a nice texture and the corn was sweet! - Barbacoa - the least exciting thing we ordered but meat was tender and flavorful, just nothing special. Coming back we might double up on some of the earlier mentioned items because they were that good and skip the barbacoa. Also avocado margarita is a must - very popular and unique! So delicious, we had a great time, checkout Alteno!

Every dish was amazing and you can't really go wrong, but you definitely must order the pan de elote corn bread with black truffle butter. Our server Kevin was super attentive and went above and beyond explaining the story behind the restaurant and his favorite dishes in extensive detail. I think I may like Alteño better than Alma?? (Gasp) I am sad Kini's closed down but am happy that a restaurant of such great caliber took its place.

We went here for another birthday celebration. What a night! We ordered way too much food but everything was very good. The pan de elote was a top favorite. I loved the gringa al pastor. I'd definitely get the queso fundido again and I'm not a big fennel fan but the camote asado was also tasty. We took the pollo a las brasas and carne asada home because we were so full and they were much larger portions than expected. I did get an extra shot of grapefruit juice for my Paloma which made it more like I expected. The mezcal treat with crickets and worm powder were an adventurous touch. They were very busy so it was a little slow but the explanation of the menu helped and they described the dishes upon arrival to recall our decisions, it was worth the experience. The ambiance was relaxing and unique. Will definitely be back for another round.

I was extremely underwhelmed with my experience dining at Alteño. Having previously eaten at Alma Fonda Fina, perhaps my expectations were too high, but I found the menu to be uninspired and wasn't blown away by a single dish (aside from the jalapeño cornbread.) The ambience is cozy but the service was nothing exceptional. All around a mediocre experience.

Great location, nice buildout/FF&E, and the service was on point. That being said its sister restaurant, Alma Fonda, is much much better. The large plates were not really well thought out for example my boss ordered the steak and it literally was a lump of meat, I ordered the fish but again it was a chunk of fish with a side of rice. This place is better for large groups and the small plates were a hit. That being said, the best thing we ate was the flan, I would go as far as to say that was the best flan I've ever had in my life. They do allow walk ins.

Absolutely delicious. Wine, food, service, ambiance ... Visited Alteño with a colleague and enjoyed every course. Highly recommend the ceviche (fish with apple) dish. Loved every minute of it.

It was a great experience overall. There was nothing from our meal that was bad. The service was also attentive and friendly. - Hibiscus Mocktail was possibly one of the best. - Definitely get the cooked to order Corn bread. - The sweet potato is the same from the chef's Michelin star restaurant. - The tacos may be underrated. It was messy to eat but incredible. - Tuna App - refreshing and pear/tuna combo is perfect.

Service was 10/10 our waiter was Kevin he made the experience so fun and relaxed. Bartenders made some extra fun cocktails for us. Food was our favorite, everything we tried had so much flavor. This place has so much love and energy to it. New favorite place in town, can't wait to go again! 10/10

Just wow! Booked a reservation 2.5 months ago and it did not disappoint. Everything we ordered I literally said wow after the first bite. Gringa Al pastor was my favorite. I live how it's a large tortilla that you slice and eat with all the goodies folded in. Also really enjoyed the carne asada. It was juicy and flavorful topped with perfectly oriented chives. Will definitely be back!

The food is unique and flavorful. On a different plain. I've eaten there twice and Alma Fonda Fina once. The cornbread (Elote) is beyond, beyond. On the other hand: the dish pacing is off-putting. Two people share a halibut while two people watch. 15 minutes later, two people eat lamb shank while two people watch. You have to tell them exactly "the halibut and lamb shank together". If they say "that might not work", believe them. Order something else. And big lulls between courses. We had a 15 minute lull where the table was bare? If you have hearing issues go elsewhere. A din of yelling diners fighting to be heard over loud rock or house music. If you want a quiet dinner for two? Go elsewhere. You are screaming at each other. I'm done. If I go back it's entries only. And only in groups of four.

Wow!!!!! I left so full. Services was amazing and the food was unbelievable. We sat at the bar and enjoyed this very much! I can't wait to go back!

Atmosphere is great. Servers are lovely. We found most of the dishes to be overly salty. The fish entree was ruined by pouring an extremely salty green sauce around and onto it. The buttered rice was great. The bone marrow appetizer fabulous. And lastly my salad was drowned in lemon by my partner following a misguided recommendation from our server. Yuck. Had to wipe it down (yes, the salad) with a paper napkin.

Amazing meal and experience. 10/10 would recommend and will be back! eveey dish was amazing hard to pick a favorite. Cocktails were great too!
