The 18 Best Restaurants in Vorarlberg, Austria | Eater
"If you fancy a bit of history with your dinner, head to Alter Goldener Berg in Lech, a 500-year-old inn, which has been in owner Daniela Pfefferkorn’s family for decades, located in a local historical monument. The restaurant has all the traditional recipes and dishes you would expect in a stuben (tavern), but all the locals cross-country ski their way to the restaurant for the fondue; almost similar to hot pot, the house speciality features local lake fish that guests cook at the table in hot broth. But if you want to be where the party is during the winter, head out to the Panorama Sun Terrace and order an apple martini, Negroni, or Rob Roy (or a smoothie, a specialty of Pfefferkorn’s) to kickstart your après-ski session with some new friends." - Michelle Tchea
Delicious food - and the coffee is especially outstanding. The terrace offers beautiful views of the mountains, which makes the experience even better

If you’ve been in lech you know that you are regularly impressed by the high quality of food and the genuinely friendly austrians!
Yesterday in the Alter Goldener Berg we were reminded that tourist traps exist as well here - although this is the only one we’ve encountered.
The location is stunning and super cozy, that’s where the positives end.
Besides cheap wineglases for a nice wine and slightly grumpy waiters, the review of the food quality is probably most helpful to potential guests:
I shared a Hot Stone with my brother:
- The meat quality was average to bad and so thinly cut that one couldn’t get a juicy piece done.
- The sauces were served in cheap cups randomly placed on the table with stains on the rim and most importantly they were tasting so bad that we ate the meat with just salt and pepper.
- the fries were tasting ok but not crispy.
- the vegetables were just thrown in a small bowl and looked unappetizing from start.
- the pickeled vegetables were tasting worse that from a standard supermarket.
- The salad (besides being presented worse than in a standard school cantine) was absolutely inedible! Really we’ve never experienced something like this in a restaurant of any price class.
For this we paid €79.00 Per Person! So my brother and I spent €160.00 (without Wine) for an culinary experience which was below a €3.00 Leberkäsesemmel from the Bakery.
Writing all that i do hope they get their ish together and improve the food and the training of the staff so one can once again visit this cozy gem in Oberlech.
