"Even from the outside, Alte Torkel, which is located right on the road through the vineyards, is liable to turn heads! The old stone house at a remove from even its closest neighbours has maintained its regional charm while incorporating modern touches; the wine theme is omnipresent. In keeping with its "Fine Wineing" motto, the menu is characterised by a regularly changing selection of wines by the glass. A contemporary influence makes itself felt in the seasonal, regional cuisine. The hosts are cordial and dedicated. In summer, the terrace with a view of the valley is a real boon!" - Michelin Inspector

Absolutely wonderful lunch with an amazing view over the vineyards and the Rhine valley on a gorgeous summer day. Very welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Outstanding, delicious and tasty food with suggested matching wine selections. 5-6 suggestions, mostly local, throughout the menu sections. Dishes were beautifully plated. Service was excellent, well timed and without any rush. Highly recommended, a culinary experience in a beautiful setting. A must stop for visitors of the area and in transit alike. Top notch!

A Perfect Culinary Experience at Alter Torkel My visit to Alter Torkel was nothing short of spectacular! From the beautiful vineyard setting to the warm and inviting ambiance, everything was designed to create a truly unforgettable experience. The wine tasting menu was expertly crafted, with each dish perfectly complementing the selected wines. Every bite was an explosion of flavors, and I loved everything I had. The Rande with Roquefort, spruce, and crispbread was a wonderful balance of earthy and creamy flavors, while the Onsenei with black salsify, crispy chicken skin, and truffle was pure indulgence. The Schmorbratenravioli with cherry tomatoes and sage butter was rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious. And to end on a high note, the Sanddorn with hibiscus and dark chocolate was a beautifully balanced dessert—fruity, floral, and decadent. The wine pairings were outstanding, highlighting the best of the region, and the service was impeccable—attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Alter Torkel is a true gem, and I cannot wait to return. A must-visit for anyone who loves great food and wine!

Wonderful location, we sat outside. Good service, the waiters are Sommeliers on their oen, can give a long explanation of the wine. I find the menu different but complicated. The food is cuisine style, locally sourced and interesting. But the price did not match the taste!! My Pilze-Schaum-Aprikosen Entree was just sweet. (Fr. 19) I had a hard time to taste any Pilze/ Wild mushrooms. Also the main course: huge description with fancy locally sourced meat, but no special taste. I find the food overly handled and taste gets lost in the jungle of preparation and many ingredients. Great place and setting for a drink.

What a wonderful experience! Outstanding Michelin Guide restaurant with a Bib Gourmand rating, though it deserves a star! Creative, well-thought out menu with local ingredients and a variety of wine pairings for every dish. The restaurant is located in the middle of the Bündner Herrschaft vineyard region and sources its wines from the finest manufacturers in the region. The view of the vineyards, even on a cloudy day, is fantastic. On the inside, the restaurant is meticulously decorated as a charming, rural Swiss winery. Meat lovers will enjoy the Alter Torkel with its mouthwatering foie gras, perfectly cooked Swiss beef fillet, venison, duck breast and more. The service is both friendly and professional, the staff combine a nice sense of humor with timely service and knowledge of the wine list. For those who would like to take home a souvenir, there is a sizeable, reasonably priced offering of local wines for sale, which are packed into portable and sustainable cardboard boxes. Not that you should reserve in advance, this restaurant is in high demand even on weekdays.

Very disappointing experience, the only good thing is the location, the staff was very rude, mixed up our orders several times. Waited forever and also the menu is not easy to choose from. Over priced for small portions and no selection at all.
