Never been here before and so decided to give it a go. We waited for a table and were given a choice. It's all shabby chic with mismatched tables and chairs which adds to the charm of the place. Music was playing in the background which wasn't too unobtrusive. The menu was huge and covered both sides of an A3 page. We were given the option of ordering via the QR code or at the bar. We went for the latter. I went for the breakfast quesadilla and my wife went for the Miami brunch. Both were excellent and pretty good value. I then ordered cake at the bar. Chocolate & raspberry tote for me and lemon & raspberry drizzle for my better half. Very nice. Venue was full of families and dogs which made it homely. Best part is because you order and pay at the bar you avoid a bill with service charge on it. I like this!

Just a bit disappointing overall, sadly. We'd been to Correa Lounge on the Isle of Wight which was decent, so hoped for good things here. Firstly, finding a table yourself and then ordering via QR or at the bar is all well and good, but zero interactions with staff just feels a bit disconnected... Secondly, the food was honestly poor. All a bit cold, nothing particularly that flavoursome or made with any care. The Korean Chicken Burger *sounds* amazing but it was a teeny bit of chicken in a massive bun, zero care. Kids meal delivered last, which drives me mad as kids are then getting antsy... We also didn't get the drink or snack with the meal that was said included free. Last thing was ordering a kids ice cream and waiting about 15 minutes, then another 5 minutes after chasing it up. Just all a bit lacking in any care, detail or attention. I dunno, just a shame when there's so many other great food places around. Maybe it was just an off day.

They get two star , because the staff were bubbly. The food for the prices is bonkers. Myself and three others went there for lunch and drinks. U would imagine food would come out together, or at least very close too. My friend had finished his which he had to send back as was cold , before the three of us had even eaten. I had belly of pork £17 . The portion was not fit for a 5 year old. 🤣. The waitress, without me even saying anything said , I’m sorry 😔people complain about the size, is there anything else I can get you? or an extra side. I said yes, I’ll actually have some more pork. With my ten frozen chips 3 inches of salad and I 🤔 think a pot of tarismalata? . She said of course It will be about 4 minutes. 14 minutes later ish , when I had nearly finished my food I asked her where the other tiny bit of pork was. She apologised and brought me another child/ baby , like three pieces🤣. After a £111 pound lunch bill , with drinks,, I will never be eating there again. I’ll stick to Carlucios 👍

Very nice meal of Bang bang chicken and a glass of wine. Interesting mismatched chair decor and old pictures. No table service though as order at bar or QRcode, which I didn't realise.

Alto Lounge is one of my favourite locations to enjoy a good breakfast and a lovely cup of coffee. It's always spot on and the lovely people working here make sure you are always having a good experience. We asked for substitutions, they've done it. We asked for recommendations, they've provided extensive info. They checked on us to make sure everything is top. Can't fault them. Thank you very much for everything you do!

Came in for a late lunch. The place wasn’t really full when we went in and was told we can seat anywhere. Picked this couch by the frames with a good wall light. Interior was beautiful. Loved all the portraits and other paintings. Love the mixed of colours. Beautiful chairs and tables. You can order by the bar or through a code by the table. Easy. We ordered: buttermilk fried chicken with sweet potato fries and pink lemonade, lounge breakfast and cappuccino and salt and pepper squid. Food came in right on time except mine (probably just a couple of minutes difference) the lady server politely apologised and offered an extra drink. I always passed by this place and will definitely come back again next time for breakfast!

Google
Really nice relaxed eatery with a wide variety of meals including all day breakfast. If you like waiter service though then this place is not for you as you either order through your phone or up at the bar. Andy the chef does a great job of getting the food orders out in a synchronized manner too. Nice bohemian atmosphere with games and crayons for kids also available.

A lovely breakfast and coffee. I asked for my egg to be cooked a little longer, which was no trouble and a new perfect egg was brought back. It was a very busy time (midday Saturday) with family groups, Sam was happy to help and not at all fazed by my request. Thank you Sam, thank you The Lounge. 👌🏽

Yelp
Since coming across it, this has been the new favourite amongst my friends - for a number of reasons: - it's one of the few places that serves great coffee in the evening (we love Workhouse, but it closes at 4-ish!) - great location with free parking in the Waitrose car park - friendly and genuinely helpful staff: asked for a soya milk cappuccino, if soya milk wasn't available they go out and buy some (has happened twice now) - family friendly: free games (and not just for kids: scrabble, trivial pursuit, jenga...) and colouring books / crayons - free community book exchange, bring your books & take some free - lovely atmosphere in the evening: candles on tables, rustic decor, lots of people having conversations over coffees and/or food - great tasting, quality food. Can't find a bad point about them at all. Except perhaps that it's usually busy... we've never failed to find a table but have had to share a longer table with others before.

Yelp
A great place to eat in Caversham. I highly recommend it. There are a lot of places to eat in Caversham and lots of food choices that you could make but, if you get the chance I would highly recommend that you try the Alto Lounge for a lot of reasons. It is located on the north side of Church Street just north of the Caversham Bridge. It is right off the street and has a few tables outside but I would recommend eating inside. The inside has a pub-like atmosphere with a wood floor, wood tables, pictures all over the wall and a bar along one side. We were greeted and seated remarkably quickly. The tables are numbered and ordering can be accomplished by either ordering online (pretty efficient and quick) or going up to the bar. I visited this place twice in the week that I was in the area and got an egg sandwich the first time and a burger the second time. Both were excellent. I would also recommend their ciders and ales. I tried the cider and it was one of the best I have had. Overall, this is a great choice for a meal if you are in the area.

Yelp
Short walk from the Thames path. Delicious food with halloumi and vegan options and burgers too.

Yelp
I always enjoy taking the trip back to my hometown (Reading, UK) to visit my friends and family and a couple of days ago I had the opportunity to visit one of my favourite little treasures, the under-stated 'Alto Lounge' in Caversham with my Mum. The Alto Lounge provides a quirky, unique feel with its cosy, rustic and relaxed atmosphere. The menu absolute sings to me with everything from cinnamon french toast, to burgers, hotdogs, curry and tapas. There's something for everyone and the most important facet of all, they are so flexible and accommodating. My Mum unfortunately has coeliac disease (and so can't eat gluten), and the staff ensured my Mum that they would bake her fries in the oven instead of frying them to ensure zero cross-contamination. Brilliant. A really refreshing change from the dumbstruck look she normally gets. Sitting in the candle-lit ambience, my Mother was able to relax in the knowledge that she would be enjoying food that is safe for her and I searched the menu, spoilt for choice. Typically I couldn't decide what to have, this time it was between Macaroni Cheese and a Hot dog. But then I came across, 'The Real Mac' - 'A pork frank topped with truffle mac and cheese, sautéed portobella mushroom, onions and Swiss cheese'. Perhaps peculiar for some, but it completely suited me, so was an easy choice. Customer service was impeccable and the food was delicious, I simply had to try a dessert and opted for the warming, sticky toffee pudding. The menu described, 'Sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream', I asked if I could have custard instead and of course this was not a problem for them. I was not disappointed, it was indulgent bliss. The Alto Lounge is an absolute hidden treasure in Reading, the family-friendly, flexible customer service and quirky, ornate decor may fool you into thinking you've stumbled across a one-of-kind, independent hang-out. But there are in fact over 40 lounges over the UK - I'd love to visit a few others to see how similar they are and I implore you to find your nearest: thelounges.co.uk The website is actually really cool too. Without a doubt, bona fide, bliss Read the review: http://www.laurajreeves.com/2014/03/bliss-or-miss-alto-lounge.html See more at laurajreeves.com

Yelp
One of my favourite things about this chain of cafes is the interior design. It's completely to my taste; think old churchy interiors with cosy sofas, candles and chit chat-able tables. I'm a massive fan of everything that this little local 'chain' of cafes/bars has to offer. The Lounge Bars are a wonderful invention, and I look forward to them spreading all over in a Starbucks-like rash. Yay for expansion. Alto Lounge serves a wide range of food, cakes, tapas, coffee, beer and cocktails. In short, there really is something here for everyone. At night time the whole place is lit up with candles in a cosy and personable air, which is romantic, comfortable, classy and relaxed. The food and drinks here are wonderful; slightly on the expensive side, perhaps, but I've always found that it's worth every penny. A choice selection. Go and enjoy.

Yelp
Cool cafe / restaurant with an ethic feel similar to Giraffe. Went here for the first time with my wife (who's been there before) and had some great tapas. Good value (£15 for 6 small plates). Definitely kid friendly with lots for kids to do and parking for strollers.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Staff didn't acknowledge us upon arrival, or come to serve, We had plates collected and a spray bottle left so we cleaned the table whilst we were waiting. There were only a couple of other tables occupied so not busy either. The young staff congregated around the bar area so it seemed fully staffed. After a time of considering what to do, and with no communication received such as "someone will be with you in a moment" we decided to leave and not to return. Staff training is in much need. Yelp
Great breakfast. I really like the atmosphere here and will most likely come back to use as a remote office one day too. Free wifi (registration required) -- Beware! if you don't validate your Wifi registration in 20 minutes you are kicked off the wifi and told you need to go to another location to be able to activate it (that's not very nice!)

Yelp
This restaurant is the quirkiest place in Reading! I love the interior design, the food is great (lots of choice plus there's a gluten-free menu - hooray!) and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Alto Lounge is a must if you're bored of chain restaurants and fancy something a bit different!

Probably the best café anywhere tbh... The atmosphere and food is fantastic, their breakfast pancakes are especially great!!

Yelp
Took a group of wedding hungover friends from the UK, US, & Japan for breakfast. Very cute, cozy, good food and fresh juice. Something for everyone. Really happy to go back.
