Amador City Guide: Here Are the Best Restaurants and Bars to Try | Eater SF

"Set on 14 acres, Amador Flower Farm offers growing grounds, a potted plant area, and various landscaped demonstration gardens; more than 1,200 varieties of daylilies burst forth during the spring, and the gift shop stocks seeds and garden tools plus windchimes and seasonal decor. Check the farm website for special events, and guests are welcome to spread out for a picnic or just wander the grounds." - Lauren Saria

Driving out on a long courty road, I came upon a crooked little road. I drove down the crooked road and found a crooked path. I walked the crooked path and found a crooked little tree next to a crooked little creek. I followed the crooked little creek, that brought me to a crooked little house. There flowers filled the air with beauty 💐 🌼🌻🌿🌱🏵🌼 all around. I walked up the crooked little steps and opened the crooked little door. All the walls & windows were standing straight up. I felt like I found home among all the flowers.🏡

I made the short drive from downtown Plymouth to Amador Flower Farm to pick up some artichoke plants. Day Lillies were in bloom so I got a few varieties to go with my artichoke, miscellaneous vegetables and some new pollinators

Google
The Amador Flower Farm was a fun place to stop as part of our wine tasting experience today! We stopped to browse the selection and explore their grounds, and we were impressed by it all. Of course, their plant, flower, and seed selection is outstanding - rows and rows worth. Beyond just their flowers, though, there are many interesting gift and home decoration options and the staff is very helpful with suggestions. There's even a nursery area for starting your own garden at home. Alsi, the grounds of the flower farm are just as beautiful as the flowers themselves! So many interesting details everywhere you look. I felt like I had been transported into a quaint village or museum as I wandered the grounds. With its fabulous selection, beautiful ambiance, and friendly staff, I plan on coming back when I'm in the area to enjoy the scenery, and shop for some bulbs, plants, and flowers. I highly recommend visiting the amazing Amador Flower Farm if you have the chance!

Google
This used to be my favorite place, a destination in itself, with am amazing selection of plants, a huge gift shop, and so many daylily varieties! No longer. Excited to go yesterday, we found maybe a hundred plants for sale, 2 to 6 of several deer resistant varieties. The nursery was tucked into a small section... of a wine tasting patio. The fabulous gift shop is a fourth of its previous size (still cute, but we didn't even bother to look due to overwhelming disappointment) and is now a modern, sparse tasting room. Definitely will never go back except when the daylilies are blooming. A very sad loss for anyone who has enjoyed it for a nursery. They need to change the name. 2 stars because for now they still have the daylilies potted up in back as usual. I hope that does not change.

Google
I love this place so relaxing. You can go there for picnic. They have a nice seats. They have Mexican food, free popcorn and many selections of flowers if you like. So many flowers, and everyone was nice and helpful. Visiting again today, weather was beautiful.

Google
Love this place! Mother's day weekend is my favorite time at Amador Flower Farm. Everything in full bloom! Today was beautiful too, but stock still low...

Matti E.

Google
So sad to discover they have turned the entire cute inside into a winery/tasting room and large portion outside into a seating area. It has lost its charm and feels like a place I can't bring my family to anymore. All good things must come to an end I suppose.

Google
What a beautiful place. Picked up a new tomato plant! So many flowers, and everyone was nice and helpful. Visiting again today, weather was beautiful

Yelp
Such a lovely afternoon picnicking, enjoying a bottle of sparkling wine by Deaver, exploring daylillies and demonstration gardens. Myself, husband and 4 kids (4-11) found a perfect day trip from Sacramento to the Amador Flower Farm. A main attraction for our family was the picnic area beside the pond full of koi fish, turtles and frogs. A food dispenser ($0.25) was endlessly fun to feed and attract the pond inhabitants and observe their patterns beneath mature oaks brimming with sparrows, red winged blackbirds and other songbirds. We brought our own picnic food, bought a bottle of sparkling wine at the gift shop/tasting room, and sat for more than an hour spending time together. Later, we wandered through the gardens and enjoyed the beautiful blooms, many of which can be purchased to bring home. The paths were easy to navigate for our mother with a bad knee. It's straightforward to get here, and well worth the hour from the Sacramento area. What an incredible afternoon!

Yelp
We've heard that this was a beautiful spot so my husband and I decided to come out for anniversary. What an absolute joke. As we walk through the door nobody greeted us and nobody welcomed us in. There were absolutely no flowers. To be honest my mom has better flowers in her yard!

Yelp
Was there for Daylily days event and was amazed at all that was blooming. They tasting room which they share a space with was a nice touch. I brought my dog and enjoyed walking thru the display gardens and a tasting on the patio. It was a great afternoon.

Yelp
Very nice setting for picnic. Great selection of flowers. Nice gift shop. Nice people.

Yelp
Came here for their Spring Fling event. It was a long drive from the East Bay but scenic and well worth it. Plenty of parking and nestled within Amador wine country, you can easily add this to a day trip itinerary. The grounds near the gift shop/nursery where you can buy flowers featured a small pond with ducks, koi and turtles as well as picnic tables. Great spot to bring a lunch and relax. The nursery itself was delightful to walk around as were their store full of garden wares. I purchased a small petunia to plant, a solar garden stake and wind chimes. Everything was reasonably priced. They have a punch card-if I were a local I'd be here all the time and be in serious trouble! Can never have too much in your garden. Their vendor/artisan booths for the event were also fun to browse. I believe they do this every spring so will be back! Near the entrance there are decorative gardens with benches to rest on and view the beautiful property. In April the daffodils and tulips were in bloom. During the year they also feature a pumpkin patch in the fall and Christmas events. Follow them on social media, where they do post their events. One thing I didn't get to do, as I had other stops to make was the free tram ride around their property-would have loved to see more. Oh well-all the more reason to come back!

Yelp
Review #207 - 2020 I've had this place bookmarked since spring because I love flower fields & anything related to flowers. Sadly, I never made my way over since this whole pandemic started--so, I finally decided that Christmas would be the best time to come for a visit even if all the flowers have died out. We showed up for their "Visit With Santa" event at around 1:30 PM on Sunday, December 6th. We actually made good timing considering we went to church at 10 AM & had to make a 2-hour drive out. Luckily, Santa didn't leave until 3 PM so the kids were able to get their photos taken with Santa while we were there. They even offered free hot apple ciders and cookies, which the girls took advantage of! The place is huge so we didn't actually get to check out the entire grounds. They have plenty of picnic tables for families who are interested in bringing their own food, but we didn't see anyone having a picnic while we were there. There were plenty of families with kids there taking pictures with Santa and running around in the yard. The Christmas decorations were so nice & inviting! Staff members are super friendly and helpful! I bought some cute poinsettia plants to take to my mom's grave. I've never seen an orange one before so of course I had to buy one because it was so unique. I'd be here more often if it wasn't so far of a drive, but I will definitely venture back once things are back to normal next spring.

Yelp
Our visit to the flower farm was before its peak season. Because of that we were not able to see all the flowers in bloom. But never the less there is a season for every flower. So we got to see the flowers that bloom in early spring. The one that impressed us the most is the Easter Lily. Easter Lily is native to Taiwan and Japan with the originally name being Teppoyuri which comes from the Japanese language. It is not very cat friendly because this plant is very toxic to cats. The flowering season goes from April to June. Happy Easter dear friends.

Yelp
Great open spot that's got plenty of places to picnic. Unfortunately, even though we came in May when the flowers were in bloom, there were no flowers to see aside the ones for sale in the nursery because of Mother's Day. Still, it was a nice place to visit with friendly staff that allow you to roam the grounds. Be warned - very few public visitors wear masks. The signage at the estate only requests 6 feet social distancing.
google avatar

Kimberly R.

Yelp
Beautiful gardens! Loved the variety of spaces for visitors to wander through and enjoy. 100's of varieties of Lilly's... Picnic areas and a lovely large oak with flat boulders underneath to atop end enjoy the trees beauty... Ducks and a water feature. Worth the drive! Oh... and friendly knowledgeable people there to help
google avatar

Yelp
Worst customer service ever. They do not honor their own Return policy. I would definitely purchase plants or flowers elsewhere. Don't waste your time to come out here. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's - don't waste your time and/or gas to drive out here. It's a shame to be treated this way, especially after we have spent a few hundred dollars in plants here.

Yelp
Our family absolutely loves this nursery. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The day lilies are so beautiful. There is a beautiful oak tree near the vineyard that is a great place to take pictures. It's a fun place to visit in the fall too. They do a pumpkin patch and corn maze.

Val P.

Yelp
SO beautiful w/ all the daffodils that were blooming!! And a darling gift shop w/ all kinds of GREAT things!!! It's worth the drive!!
google avatar

Adrian P.

Yelp
Love this place! I go here all the time, to get the best native plants and Grevalias and many other starts that have always done well on my land. Atmosphere is beautiful, and the staff is amazing and extremely helpful, esp Jerrilynn who always helps me with my questions and everyone is so knowledgeable plus I love the pumpkin patch every year, and don't forget the pond and picnic tables!
google avatar

Darren C.

Yelp
They have a lot of selection. Tons and tons of selection. Everyone was very nice. Masks are not a thing there. The staff doesn't wear them only a few customers were wearing them. If you have health concerns Have not been fully vaccinated And just don't feel comfortable in that situation be aware
google avatar

Yelp
More than just a flower shopping place--great place to stop and just enjoy the rows of flowers and the stream. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about what grows where you live. There are signs that tell you which plants are unappealing to deer.Nice gift shop with great last minute gifts, including rocks and minerals. You can get an Amador Flower Farm t-shirt as well.No events in summer but still a nice place.
google avatar

Ray T.

Yelp
Nice selection of plants. Beautiful grounds, including a picnic area. A very nice way to spend the day.

Yelp
So happy i found this place, it was a beautiful farm. i never realized how many types of flowers there were! i went a little early in the season, so unfortunately did not get to see all the flowers and plants blooming, but it was still nice. definitely enjoyed the little shop as well, i purchased some amazing salsa from there. i would recommend going for sure.

Linda J.

Yelp
This place was great! I purchased the cutest gnome, a delicious poppy seed salad dressing, and an apron. The women who checked me out was so sweet, the place was clean and well maintained, and they had tons of cute stuff. Will definitely stop again next time I'm in Amador.
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
Pretty cool little family get away, it's open year round and is free admission. Evidently they also have an awesome pumpkin patch but the best time to come when everything is in bloom is in may. If you ask really nice the tram operator will let you sit up front with him.

Donna L.

Yelp
Had a great time here. The staff, especially Chloe, was great, helpful, polite and friendly. All our questions were answered completely. Be sure to get a map and a decoder card to understand all the abbreviations used on the plants. Lots of color and variety. Be sure to go in late June when the blooms are in full color.

Yelp
So sad I'm having to write a bad review. We're locals and were so excited to come check this nursery out, we finally got some time away and went to see what they had to offer. The selection of plants was OK for what we were looking for, not a ton of succulents but I still managed to find a couple plants that suited my style. The bad part and unfortunately the reason we won't be coming back or recommending to other friends is the customer service or lack there of. I went to check out with my plants and wasn't even greeted by the lady at the register, she barely even acknowledged my presence other than the fact she was ringing up my plants, to the point where it was genuinely uncomfortable. It was my first time out in a long time and I chose this establishment to spend my money and time at, the least you could do is say hello, how're you doing ?! I spent $40 on four plants. And I should have just turned around and walked out. This isn't a Lowe's or a Home Depot, where I wouldn't mind being treated like this, it's a cute local nursery where you'd expect genuine appreciation for customers driving all the way out to see them. I've been in customer service for 15 years and am appalled at the woman working the register today on 5/19/21 around noon.

Yelp
Had better experiences at other Nurseries. The Antique Gardener on Main Street Sutter creek has a much better gift shop with a lot the same stuff and not nearly as expensive.

Yelp
Beautiful...and not crowded! We went up here and just had a nice time walking the grounds and enjoying the pretty flowers! They do have a tram to take you around if you decide you can't or don't want to walk it. They have a cute little shop, some food options, a picnic area if you decide to bring your own lunch...which is definitely encouraged. Easy in and out...and honestly I think its much nicer, friendlier and prettier than daffodil hill. And this place is open year round! Take a drive...and enjoy the prettiness!

Yelp
Our family loves visiting the Amador Flower Farm. We live fairly close, so the drive isn't too bad, but virtually anytime of year, the place is gorgeous. During October, they have a pumpkin patch complete with tram rides of the Flower Farm, a corn maze, picnic areas near the pumpkin patch and near the Flower Farm. Gift shop always has cute things, too! The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful if you have questions about what to plant and when, how much sun, and any kind of fertilizer you might need. Right in the middle of about 25 Amador County Wineries, it's fun to make a day of it. If you need overnight lodging, there is a hotel in Plymouth, or Jackson. There is also a small bed and breakfast near the Deaver Vineyards tasting room. Very quiet and peaceful part of the Foothills. :)

Yelp
Some how we stumbled upon this place while we were exploring the different wineries in the area. Need a break from all the booze? Grab a little food and come to the flower farm for a nice picnic. They have plenty of picnic tables. Enjoy the pretty flowers. It was tempting not to leave with a little wagon full of plants. They also have a nice little indoor gift shop as well. Unfortunately no pets allowed on the grounds.

Dana E.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Was not allowed on property due to having a small dog with me. Drove to Plymouth just to visit thus facility. In 96 degree weather, I also couldn't leave my pet in the car.
google avatar

Bea S.

Yelp
There weren't many flowers in bloom so that was a bummer but it was still a beautfiul place and the weather was nice and cool. I didn't use the picnic area but it was well shaded. I loved watching the ducks in the pond. They just had baby ducklings so they were fun to watch. The mama duck jumped from the waterfall down to the first level and kept quacking for her babies to join her. It was adorable watching the three ducklings make that terrifying (to them) drop to join their mom. The gift shop was cute but didn't have anything I was interested in. I'm glad I stopped here. Next time I'll bring a lunch and hopefully come back when there are more flowers in bloom.

Yelp
Amazing flowers and trees. Love this place. Sign up for the newsletters and watch for sales, great savings! Professional, polite and knowledgeable. Their plants and trees never fail to thrive, unlike the big box stores bareroots. No wasted money or time when you buy here, plus their selection of heirlooms and specialty plants is wonderful. Bring a picnic, explore the flower paths and local vineyards, a great day.

Patricia M.

Yelp
I love this flower farm! Beautiful flowers and plants. My husband and I stopped by for a visit last month. We were very inpressed by the friendly customer service. And the maintained grounds where you can take a walk and explore or have a relaxing picnic by the lovely stream. We definitely recommend this place highly for flower enthsiasts and families. A wonderful place to be and hang out and enjoy. I look forward to visiting again and hopefully can bring the family sometime. I know my grandbaby would love it! She loves to explore. She would love the stream with the ducks, turtles and fish to say the least and the beautiful flowers. Patricia and Eric Mckay

Yelp
I love the friendly and knowledgeable staff, and selection of plants, especially the day lilies. They have a nice picnic area and the landscaping is wonderful!
google avatar

Yelp
There is a market set up on Saturday and Sunday at the farm. Small operation of locals. The ladies who adopt owls are great to meet. Our favorite stand is the one run by Mark and Marget who make there own extra virgin olive oil from their grove just 1 mile away. They are known as SLO 2 20 which stands for the sign that is outside their vineyard (Slow to 20 mph).
google avatar

Yelp
Had an excellent time at the flower farm. I'm sure not many guys say that, but I actually enjoyed it. I went there on a "family" trip. If you're interested in seeing exactly what I saw, check out my Instagram https://instagram.com/wildshaddoenature there you'll see many photos from the flower farm. All around interesting and amazing place.

Yelp
Had a wonderful time ! It was a beautiful drive from Rocklin, through rolling hills. The Farm has beautiful gardens, the plants are marked and the paths are easy to maneuver. Because it was the Spring Fling, there was a trolley ride around the property, plenty of flowering plants to enjoy and breathtaking beauty everywhere. I am especially excited that I will be able to bring my parents who both use walkers. Plenty of paved paths and very nice bathrooms. Plenty of places to just sit and enjoy the day. Of course I bought plants ! I found several variety that I haven't seen elsewhere, and the prices were fair. There were several pieces I loved in the gift shop. I appreciated that at check out they took my flat of plants to a pick up location so I could just drive and pick up my purchase without having to wrestle with a handful of plants. It was a busy day, but everyone was so friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Maureen G.

Yelp
Amazing. Just amazing! I stumbled on the Spring Fling event while traversing the Internet for a day trip to get outta town and find something fun to do. I almost changed directions and headed to may old faithfuls but forged ahead with the original plan. We stopped in Ione so I could see, Ione it Now, a shop an old work buddy and his gf opened last year and then, on up to Plymouth. I noticed a visitor's center with an old peddle bike in front and motioned to the hubs to pull off. I wanted to check our address as our gps did not recognize it. The fellow in the center was much more than helpful and set us on our course. The only thing I can say is that I wish we'd left town at 9AM instead of 11! They started shooing everyone out at 10 minutes of 4 o'clock...what? I now know why...the huge farm has so many places worth exploring. That and it takes a good hour to get folks moving toward the gate. There were meandering trails of various levels where places to sit and perch or eat a picnic beckoned you to stop for awhile. The view was beautiful. Luscious grassy knolls where visitors sunned themselves on a blanket, a vineyard in the distance in perfect rows creating symmetry and color. I could have stayed another two hours, easily. The last 30 minutes or so before closing...we finally made it to the nursery section, that's when I heard the sad announcement on the intercom...closing in 10 minutes....nooooo! We hurried through the specimens and I must have asked 4 questions to 2 different nursery workers regarding the pictures I took while on our walk of the grounds. We left with 2 of Bob's favorite lilies and me an assortment of perennials and herbs and my arch nemesis, the California golden poppy. I've never been able to grow them...but my dad used to pull the seeds from them after deadheading a clump on our ranch property, scattering them about on rock solid soil. To my never ending surprise they popped up in masses the following spring. I guess I'm just too careful with them...need to be more careless...water them less, maybe just forget about them entirely? If you haven't been to the farm, get your hiking shoes on, a hat for shading the sun, hop in the car with a picnic, perhaps a bottle of vino and get going. It really is heaven on earth!

Yelp
Didn't see a lot of flowers since it was so early in the season, but the place was beautiful and the weather was nice. Brought back some nostalgic feelings of living in Northern California. Didn't get a chance to tour any wineries this time, but I know they are there...so next time!

Carolynn R.

Yelp
We were up at this chatming nursery a short time ago. Very friejndly. As i am wheelchair bound. , a kind lady employee heped push my wheelchair to a closer place for my husband to park. The gift shop was great. Several cute, different. Adorable things to up. We bought a few nice gift items. Could have bought more. Another ttip. Also bought 2 succulent plants. Fun time. Lots of plants. Spome tomaro plants.will go back.

Yelp
If you love daylilliies, this is heaven, rows and rows of varieties...If you don't, this place is still nice. smack dab in the middle of about 25 wineries, this seems like the only dry place around.

Jamaro B.

Yelp
Lovely way to spend some time wandering through their gardens. I loved all the interesting names of the flowers, too!
google avatar

Sky Y.

Yelp
I really like this place even though the only portion that I browsed was the growing grounds. It was definitely pretty neat to look at the different flowers and see the unique names that some of them have. This is a nice place to check out if you're interested in something low key and enjoy flowers and gardens. I would definitely like to visit again and will surely explore the demonstration gardens next time. This place has ample parking and a picnic area that's situated in the shade.

Karen R.

Yelp
Friend and I were at the Amador Nursery in July, 2011, a very hot day, but couldn't stop wandering around thru the rows of daylilies! I ordered several that day to be shipped to me in Philadelphia and over the past two years the blooms have grown and grown, each year more flowers and this year they are magnificent! Ordering online or by phone is easy and Customer Service people are exceptional and knowledgeable. Lots of wineries surrounding this nursery too, so a trip there can have a lot of aspects!
