On the Grid : AMASS

"At Amass they describe the dining experience in one word: spontaneity. The former chef at Noma, Matthew Orlando is the owner of Amass, so if you go eat there expect really delicious gourmet food, but still with a down-to-earth-felling. The restaurant itself has an edgy yet beautiful personality and an amazing view. Most of the vegetables and herbs on your plate to come straight from their private garden out back." - Blad

Amalie

"A charming 18C townhouse by Amalienborg Palace - its two tiny, cosy rooms are decorated with antique prints. The menu offers a large choice of traditional Danish dishes, including herring prepared in various ways; pickled, fried and marinated in curry or port are some of the options available for lovers of the fish. Salmon, salads and smørrebrød are also available, in satisfyingly tasty versions of tried-and-tested classics." - Michelin Inspector

After watching the Changing of the Guard just steps away, we walked into the restaurant and found ourselves wrapped in one of the most memorable culinary experiences of our lives. The decor felt like stepping into someone's home—warm, lived-in, and steeped in Danish tradition. The staff greeted us with genuine kindness and attentiveness, and even those in the kitchen seemed to meet our eyes with a silent, smiling “welcome home.” And the food… the food was stunning. I had the tartar—expertly seared around the edges, meltingly tender within. The accompaniments were thoughtful, perfectly matched to elevate the dish without overwhelming it. The horseradish, in particular, was presented with an understanding of both taste and ritual—sharp, clean, and respectful of the entire plate. Every element felt chosen with care. Beautifully plated and even more beautifully prepared, it was a celebration of Danish culinary heritage that I will never forget. This restaurant doesn’t just serve meals—it serves memories. I already can’t wait to return.

Loved the visit. Very classic smoerrebroed. They have three types of tartar. The server helped us to select one that went well with other smoerrebroed. Staff are cheerful and friendly.

Found this place listed on the Michelin guide. Booked two weeks advance and had many reservation spots left. Was asked to move the reservation on the day (unsure why) but we were flexible thus this was no problem. It was our first time trying traditional danish food! The place was filled with locals. Food was delicious with warmth. The fish was great - one of the best fish dishes we tried! The place is quite small and was packed but still had great ambience. Very friendly staff. The menu comes in various languages so had no problem choosing meals. It also has recommendations for drinks so even made it easier for us to choose!

Located near the major tourist spot. Nice atmosphere and very friendly owner who personally takes our order. Very homey feel restaurant. Love the atmosphere. Service is quite slow. Not advisable if you are in a rush. Food is ok very basic.

Google
Fantastic small restaurant with a real family feel. The white tea and the roast beef dish were amazing. The vast history was explained in the menu. Great meal! Reasonably priced. It was almost full when we arrived but the very friendly staff arranged a table for us.

Trully delightful experience. We were slightly confused at the beginning, since had to wait some time, as our table wasn't ready even though we had a reservation. But what came after made up for all the waiting. The atmosphere and staff was very genial. The food itself was amazing, extremely tasty dishes, the portions are small and a little expensive, but they are worth any price. The best part came at the end, namely dessert. The chocolate cake was divine, I have never felt so much joy while eating, as when I took the first bite of this dish. I can clearly recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Yelp
What an amazing place! Real danish food, we came here for lunch. Service is awesome, they gave us some local beer to try it, food came fast. So tasty! All lunch dishes include bread and butter. They take visa.
