Amal's Deli and Market

I have been here many times, I usually swing by when I am in the area where I need a refresher and something to snack on. The store is super clean and glad they have a deli that serves hot and cold foods. The staffs here are welcoming, very understanding and well trained where I never encountered any issues during any of my visits. They have many snacks to choose from, refrigerated drinks, household items, lottery, wine, beer and much more. All the foods here are made to order which is always a plus for me since I am a very patient person. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick bite just like me, to anyone that lives nearby or if you just so happen to be in the area. I definitely will be back to tryout the other great items they have to offer.

I was in the Haight looking at all the nincompoops and weirdos when I suddenly got the urge to eat! Then I remembered...Hell, I'm on Haight street...if I walk into a restaurant down here they'll spit on my food for sure! Ahhhhhh ..then I realized I could go to Amal's Deli and Market where the customers are treated with respect and honesty no matter who they are, even us conservatives! And besides..the food is Amazing! 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆

I love Amal’s! Their extensive wine selection is impressive, offering a variety that caters to different preferences (reds, whites, roses from different regions). The staff's is amazing and personable and can provide friendly guidance and recommendations. Great locally owned deli, grocery/convenient store. Amazing snack and candy selection amongst other things. And their sandwiches are extremely reliable. I love sourdough bread but it’s usually too tough for sandwiches. But They have a really nice airy sourdough that when you bite doesn’t squeeze all of the sandwich ingredients out. just a solid well-made quality sandwich with good ingredients.👍

Living next to Amal's is such an absolute pleasure! All the folks working there are really sweet and funny. They have a great selection of snacks, drinks, and even wines, stationery, and cleaning products! The staff has also been interested and receptive to what products they have that I like or that they should stock more. It took me a while to realize that their prepared hot food is really quality. During the renovations, me and my housemates and neighbors pitched in to buy soup to support the business and it was DELICIOUS! Been enjoying the soup since, and also love other vegan choices there like the mushroom and potato empanada and falafel wrap. Amal's has been so crucial to great evenings here, whether it be buying enough drinks for an impromptu celebration, refilling on snacks for a movie night, or just stopping by after work for my favorite chocolate protein shake. Make sure not to miss it!

We came from Vegas for the 60th of the Grateful Dead and stopped in on the first day! That was it ! We were hooked! Mama Amal was the absolute Sweetest! I Think she made me lunch everyday I was there! Great staff, and friendly! Amazing Spot! Make sure you stop and say hello to Amal!

Probably the best selection of Wine and high end snacks in the upper haight. They have been here for decades and also make excellent hot home made food. Best part is they are open late! They also have a great selection of beer and also do the lottery

Amal’s is fantastic. The deli is wonderful, especially the breakfast sandwiches (freshly made, not frozen like other near by cafes) and flaky puff pastries (spinach and feta, mushroom and potato🤤 really good for a quick bite). They also have Lebanese aspects to their deli (Manakeesh!!) and the owner, Amal, is always adding more. She is also such a beautiful human and I always feel taken care of here, even being new to the neighborhood. They also have such a good selection of European gummies, candies, and chocolate bars

We were around Haight Street, and decided to come by and swing into the liquor store for water. It smelled really good and we asked the two ladies what was that great aroma smell. I tried sfeha which is an Arabic food. The food is really good. We decided to order four of them and we were really full so come and check them out. They are very nice and friendly.

I was looking online where to find the best chicken noodle soup and they led me to this Deli Shop at Haight Ashbury. Met Amal and she was the sweetest person ever and she made my Pastrami sandwich herself. I ask for her recommendations and I ended up getting the sandwich, the popular, chicken noodle soup and a lasagna. Chicken noodle soup was really good and I never had it like that and it was very interesting combinations of herbs and spices. I 100% recommend visiting this Deli shop, if you're looking for any snack that you can think of, you can probably get it from here. Really neat place, great selection and people are so friendly.

I come here almost every day for breakfast before work. Their breakfast sandwiches are super good and the secret is to order one with a hash brown. For lunch the sandwiches and shwarma are very good and affordable. Drinks and food selection is very nice too with some imports of unique items.

Amal's is one of the most welcoming places in haight. Her lentil soup and chicken noodle soup are both so comforting and feel like home. She creates such a warm environment and I love to stop by every time I'm in the area, and support her as a longstanding local business owner with strong values and integrity

This review is for the chicken soup. Unfortunately it was not as great as others have mentioned on their review. I went there today and purchased a large chicken noodle soup because my husband and I both sick and just wanted something cozy. When I receive the soup from the deli counter, there was an odd detergent bleach smell. By the time I got home, I figure the inside of the soup was probably safe and the bleach smell was probably from the outside of the lid however, when I tasted the soup, there was a very strong lemon scent with lots of herb, unfortunately it was so sour that I felt the soup was in edible. I have a hard time believing that this soup is one of the best chicken soup. In my opinion, it's really one of the worst chicken soup I've ever eaten. Unfortunately, we had to dump it down the drain. My husband also couldn't get pass that detergent smell. It really was that bad. I was completely misled by the positive rating by some of the yelpers for this chicken noodle soup. The store itself was great though. It is well located on hairy street. They had a lot of unique European products that cannot be found at many stores. I thought the owner was friendly and helpful. I really dont want to leave this bad review but the soup was awlful and I cannot recommend their chicken noodle soup.

This neighborhood place simply rocks. Nice ambiance with Large selection of all the convenience store essentials with the bonus of delicious freshly prepared food. Service is fantastic: always friendly and happy to help. And better yet, all the scratcher tickets your heart could desire.

Best & friendliest corner store around!! Back when they were doing renos, me & housemates bought some of Amal's delicious lentil stew while they were closed. Great place for late-night anything and delicious things.

Amal's Deli seems like a corner store, but it's a mediterranean corner store. They have some food items like a corner store and also a fresh deli with mediterranean and american food snacks and bigger dishes. They had 2 grape leaves for $1, a corn dog at $1-2, and a pork eggroll for $1-2 so I paid like $5 for this bunch of fun food. You will not find 2 grape leaves at $1 at many places. They have some other food items that are mediterranean, pizza, gyro, chicken sandwich, and sausage, etc. It's neat and fast. They had a computer screen to click on, but I paid cash this time. I feel like bummy with a $5 bill these days. Also, it's named after George Clooney's wife and it's Lebanese. wink.

Food is delicious , service is amazing, overall great deli and great store. They are quick to make the food and it always tastes amazing.

The chicken soup is delicious. I went after a concert and the cashier recommended that I wait inside for my uber. Everyone was very nice and location was clean.

My sisters and I were in the neighborhood getting tattooed next door at Rose Gold's a few weeks ago and popped into Amal's for a snack. The ladies behind the counter suggested we get the manakish and it was LEGIT ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I'VE EVER EATEN. We went back and ordered five more. Amal was so welcoming and made us feel at home. The market has great stuff - fresh food, quality products, even a giant rack of Haribo from all over the world. The snacks are top notch and they know their clientele in that neighborhood Stop in and let "Mama" Amal make you lunch, you'll be happy you did!

This place is legendary, an absolute gem. Amazing people, awesome food. I really can't explain how much this place means to me. It does so much for the community.

This is a delivery review; in store may be better. I saw 5-star ratings and 1 dollar sign on Grubhub and I got excited! Unfortunately, it was probably a little premature. The gyro at $8.50 isn't super cheap, but it also isn't a great deal because the gyros aren't huge and they aren't super tasty, either. The best part of my order was the mac and cheese, actually, which comes with bacon. The pork roll at $1.50 seems like a good deal but it is just one pork roll, and it's pretty mediocre. Looking at the pictures people have posted, I'm kind of sad that they don't have the full menu on Grubhub; there are a lot of really tasty looking things. Maybe I'll stop by the physical location sometime to check them out.

Really great food, friendly service! Definitely the best place to stop on Haight after walking around and getting hungry. They also have a whole convenience store attached for any drinks or general needs which is nice. Amal is one of the nicest people you will meet, and I cannot wait to go again!

Where do I even begin to describe the awesomeness of moms!! This place is a Haight street staple with the best staff, best food and best selection. It's always such a pleasure walking into moms and knowing I'm going to leave with the biggest smile feeling loved They really take the time to get to know people if you're open and friendly!!! They also sell the coolest local art! Could not recommend this place enough!! Go check it out for yourself!!

LOVE this deli. Amal makes the best warm sandwiches and manakish, all the quick bites are clutch when you're walking on haight st and don't have time to sit and dine. My personal favorite was the manakish and spinach fatayer

Just had Postmates deliver my midnight snack, chicken noodle soup and a chicken cheeseburger. The soup has a strong flavor, which would be amazing if it suited my palette, but the chicken texture kind of makes up for this. The chicken cheeseburger isn't good, from the "bun" to the (omg! wtf!) chicken, which almost tastes like mashed up and stuck back together fried fish or something.

wow. The chicken noodle soup is amazing. It's got so much flavor... by dunking bread into the soup I got to extend the life of it. The lemony, garlic, ginger, and other spices work so well and the spiraled pasta is just an amazing add. It's better than my grandmas. Seriously. Check it out.

Amal's Deli has been my corner bodega in the Haight for 9 years now, and has sustained my revolving need for beverages, snacks, and late-night cheap dinners over the years with warmth and a neighborhood vibe that's sometimes hard to come across in SF. So I was very happy when Mama (one of the owners, and such a kind, lovely presence on Haight St.!) finally was able to open the deli portion of the store. Mama is a gem of a person, but holy god can that woman cook. I just had what is easily the BEST homemade chocolate chip cookie of my life (I know my chocolate chip cookies, people), and what can only be described as a life-restoring, epic chicken noodle soup. Everything is fresh and homemade and more delicious than you'd ever expect from a small little corner bodega. Mama is always kind to everyone who comes in, works so hard, and leaves you feeling cared-for with a home-cooked meal and her ever-present warmth. 100% recommend, go support this amazing woman and her business! Mama for President!

Best chicken noodle soup I have ever had - please don't tell my mom I said that - the flavor is out of this world and I cannot give it higher regards - go get it. You will not be disappointed it's the absolute truth

Great corner store, great deli, I love the employees and seeing all the neighborhood regulars. Open late which is very helpful and huge wine and beer selection. They have a large variety of foods and supplies. I am really thankful that we have Amal's on our street.

Lots of privileged people posting here about this spot that have only ordered online and have had poor service from the delivery service, NOT the deli itself. The deli itself is BOMB. It is my favorite chicken noodle soup spot in the city. Seriously, it's amazing. Legit heaven for when you're sick, or craving home made noodle soup. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

New Lite Supermarket is now officially Amal's Deli--or Cedar Deli & Market, depending on which part of the facade you choose to read and believe. I spoke with Amal, and he said he'd like the Yelp listing to be under the name Amal's Deli. I'm guessing he thinks the Cedars of Lebanon won't object, although that's some pretty major ethnosymbolic karma he'd be fighting if the Cedars of Lebanon did, indeed, object to Amal's bogarting of top billing. What's the deli and/or market like, you ask? Well, it's similar to New Lite, but there are some differences. The main counter is now on the west side. The old main counter is now the deli counter. The paint on the outside is still quite bright, but it's no longer properly psychedelic like it was. Ten years ago, this might have bothered me, but I'm all about truth in advertising, and while Amal may have been around for years, he definitely wasn't around in the '60s, and all good things must come to an end, especially over-hyped, romanticized good things. (No one ever talks about how dangerous the Haight was back in the day.) Where has the old owner gone? We may never know. All I do know is there's a new sheriff in town, and he's a nice guy. The prices aren't great, but they're not horrible either, and there's so much stuff here that most convenience stores don't carry. If you don't believe me, check out the hardware section in the back of the store.

The kofta wrap is pretty good. Lebanese joints are always pickle heavy, making the whole experience a bit more sour and crunchy than you might be used to. It'd be cool to see what they could do with a full kitchen.

Incredible and cheap lamb kofta wrap. Meat is fresh and flavorful, and the size is for for a full meal. Zaatar bread was alright. Only complaint was their ordering system wasn't working, so they didn't know to make my order for some time, and then had to ask me for my order in person. But I will certainly be back here again for the good food!

If you get the Kafta: 10/10 If you get the Kafta and mama made it: 11/10 This place is one of the best places that still exists in San Francisco. Fresh food + any extra stuff you might need. Also, the lassiez faire attitude towards the homeless and less fortunate makes this place a gem in an area that obviously only caters to those that have money. I hope this establishment exists forever.

I originally discovered Amal's Deli by chance when I was in search of late-night food for pickup (I ordered the kafta kebab!)--but my life has been forever changed for the better upon walking into her store. Amal's Deli is both a deli and a corner store, run by Amal herself, a wonderful woman and treasured friend of many of us in the neighborhood. The deli itself is centered on Amal's absolutely delicious Lebanese wraps and sandwiches. She is a fantastic cook!! I know I can always count on her to create something delicious for me when I come in to pick up some dinner after a long day at work. Her store is also my neighborhood go-to for anything I need, from ice cream to beer to snacks. Always well-stocked with a great selection! Thank you, Amal, for everything you do. I will keep coming back each week (usually a couple times a week :) ) for as long as I live here.

Great home cooked Mediterranean food. Delicious Zaatar bread and the zaatar and cheese bread are a must try. This place really hit the spot. Fresh falafel is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, exactly how it's supposed to be!! This place is a must try.

This is such a sweet treasure of a deli... family owned for years and years, with really nice people behind the counter. There should be more places like this!

Super convenient for me. They have British chocolate and sweets - that is so great, I can't believe I used to go to Cost Plus for sweets I can now buy at the corner. Also chocolate digestives and 3 kinds of Jaffa cakes. Only negative for me is my son would really like Lays salt and vinegar chips. Oh, and by the way the ice cream here are so good at the end of a bike ride....all the flavors of "Its its". Yum!

There's one other convenience store that is literally my corner store but I'd rather walk the extra two blocks to come here instead. Large assortment of all the things you want out of a convenience store. Mainly I'm here for a post-work/need-a-snack-for-Netflix kind of thing so I'm not asking to be blown away by the experience, but they literally have whatever junk food I'm craving when I get off the 6 or 7 bus after work. Every now and then I'll also grab something from the actual deli. Never disappointed and more than reasonably priced. And the owners are great. Quick at the register but totally down to chat if you are.
