The Best Beach Hotels In Southeast Asia That Embrace Local Culture

"Amanoi, the first Aman hotel in Vietnam, is a milestone for both the Aman group and the country’s high-end tourism scene. And it’s a reminder that, among other things, they know how to pick a location: to say that the Nui Chua National Park, on the shores of Vinh Hy Bay, is paradise on earth would perhaps be an exaggeration, but only a slight one. Here, just down the coast from Nha Trang, Amanoi sits elevated on a hillside, with a commanding view of the beaches and the bay." - Mark Fedeli

Our stay at Amanoi was a beautifully curated experience from the moment we landed. We requested FastTrack service at Ho Chi Minh airport, and it was flawlessly handled—quick, smooth, and incredibly efficient. The airport staff member who met us was very, very helpful and guided us through everything effortlessly. The transfer to the resort was impeccable—luxurious, comfortable cars with professional, courteous drivers, setting the tone for what would be a memorable stay.||We stayed in a private pool villa with a view that was absolutely breathtaking—one of the best we’ve experienced. The space was peaceful, secluded, and designed with understated elegance. It’s the kind of place that instantly slows your pace and resets your mind.||However, visiting during the rainy season brought some challenges. Strong winds limited outdoor activities, and there were quite a few millipedes—inside the room, on the bed, washroom floor, and especially on the pool deck. It’s something to be mindful of in a tropical rainforest setting, but thankfully, the housekeeping staff were outstanding—quick, respectful, and incredibly detailed in keeping our villa clean and comfortable.||A true highlight was Amanoi’s wellness facilities. The Pilates studio was fully equipped with Reformers and a full Cadillac—an absolute rarity and a dream for any Pilates enthusiast. The gym was spacious and well-stocked, and the outdoor yoga pavilion was serene and stunning, surrounded by nature and overlooking the lush landscape.||The food was beautifully plated but didn’t quite suit our taste over the first few days. However, when we shared our feedback, the chef personally visited us and prepared a delicious custom Asian meal, which we truly appreciated. The GM and the entire management team were gracious and took excellent care of us, which really elevated our overall experience.||The resort itself is expansive and quiet, perfect for long walks and moments of solitude. While the walk to the main restaurant involves stairs and a bit of distance, the buggy service was always prompt and efficient. We also visited the nearby fishing village, which was a charming and worthwhile local excursion.||All in all, Amanoi is a peaceful, luxurious retreat with outstanding staff and remarkable attention to detail. If you avoid the rainy season, this property can offer an unforgettable escape blending natural beauty, privacy, and world-class service. We left feeling deeply cared for—and that’s the hallmark of true hospitality.

We stayed at Amanoi for four nights to unwind and disconnect. The room, grounds, and service were exceptional. Since the resort is tucked away in a remote location, we spent our time relaxing, reading, and completely tuning out the outside world. Despite feeling under the weather, it was one of the most peaceful and rejuvenating getaways we’ve had. The warm and thoughtful staff made the experience even better.

We’ve been to Amanoi several times and always had an enjoyable experience overall. ||Location and architecture are amazing, food is generally good and service is superb. Staff are very hospitable and helpful, and with high attention to detail. More importantly, attempts for improvements are clear & I’m impressed that our recent butlers are very hands-on and helped fix lots of service slip-ups we encountered in our earlier stays. ||However, some staff members are probably undertrained - including spa therapists and restaurant staff; e.g. they might get visibly flustered if we ask when a dish is being served. At this price point we’d expect service quality to be more consistent, not certain staff members compensating for others.

Wow - talk about disappointing. You hear so much about Aman hotels, so I was very excited to stay at one of their properties for the first time - however now I feel like I have been taken advantage of, and left extremely disappointed. The whole place is a mess. Let me tell you about my experience. Food: The allergens on the menus are all totally wrong - so watch out for an anaphylactic shock. General food service is terrible for the price point. You constantly have to wait 30 min for a coffee, 20min for half of your breakfast, and then another 20 for the other half. Everything about food/drinks is just really, really slow. One day at dinner they brought out my food 20min before my partners, so they were just sat there waiting while I very slowly ate the mediocre tasting food. When theirs turned up - it was cold and the order was wrong and missing items. You would think that mistake after mistake they would do the right thing and remove the food from the bill - wrong, they tell you with an attitude “what did you expect?”. Location: Right below the hotel is a public beach in which 100 tourist boats full of really loud people arrive every day and play music from 8am. A group of floating restaurants live right in front of the hotel, and they blast karaoke music until late at night. The room also gets really bright in the mornings because there are no blinds in the bathroom which is open to the bedroom. So don’t forget to bring an eye mask. Activities: Activates are cancelled at the last minute, and you will then get an angry phone call from the team because you did not turn up to the activity they had cancelled. Staff tell you different things so you constantly get inconsistent information. Eg: We had been told we could do an activity, so we got a buggy ride around the resort to get there. When we arrived we were told we could not do it - the beach activity manager then told us he would book it for the next day. However by then we had learned not to trust anything which had been promised, so we spoke to a higher up manager that evening to ensure it had been booked. Surprise surprise - we then learned it had not actually been booked, and it was now unavailable. Hours of my vacation I’ll never get back due to constant errors. We had also booked activities which we were then told we could not do because employees had quit, or we could not do because they had not actually been booked due to staff confusion. Conclusion: We have now tried the Aman Amanoi - I won’t be staying again at an Aman. I don’t see the hype. This place is a joke, especially for the price point you’re paying. There are way cooler hotels in Vietnam which have better interior design, better views, and leave you with waaayyy better experiences - don’t be fooled like me!

There’s nothing more to say about the excellence of Amanoi in particular and Aman in general. This is the second Aman property our family has stayed at, and our fourth visit to Amanoi (2016, 2018, 2020, and 2024). We still want to return again — which proves just how well Amanoi has done. It must be said that Amanoi has a unique advantage that few resorts in the world can match: nestled between the mountains and the sea, with a soft sandy beach (many places have pebbles), and a gentle slope that makes swimming easy (unlike many places in Europe where the sea is cold and quite deep). The underwater nature is also outstanding, with beautiful coral reefs. There’s only one area that could be improved: the resort should have a kids club.

Words can’t describe how beautiful this property is. Despite the high volume of guests in April, the staff made sure we were well taken care of. One of the best properties I have stayed in. Spa was amazing too!

Thank you Amanoi for the best service I have never experienced before. This review is for Ms. Puta and anh Eugene who welcomed us by the beginning of our unforgettable stay at Amanoi. We will be back in the nearest future. Our journey began with a warm welcome from the staff, who greeted us with refreshing towels and a delightful drink. The resort’s design beautifully complements its surroundings, featuring modern architecture infused with traditional Vietnamese influences that create an enchanting visual experience. The panoramic views of the coastline and lush hills are simply captivating, setting the perfect tone for a relaxing retreat. We stayed in a luxurious Villa with a private pool, which was the epitome of comfort and elegance. The spacious layout included a plush king-sized bed, an outdoor terrace with sun loungers, and a stunning infinity pool that seemed to blend effortlessly with the horizon. The attention to detail was remarkable, from the quality of the linens to the curated selection of local artworks adorning the walls. The bathroom featured an outdoor shower that allowed us to enjoy the lush surroundings while taking in the fragrant scents of nature. One of the highlights of our stay was the exceptional dining experience. The resort boasts a variety of restaurants offering a range of BBQ selection. The freshest ingredients sourced from local markets were evident in every bite. Our favorite dining experience was right on the beach, where we savored grilled seafood while listening to the gentle sound of the waves. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that our dining experiences were both intimate and memorable. What truly sets Amanoi apart is its impeccable service. The staff members were always attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Whether it was arranging transportation, setting up evening turndown services, or providing personalized recommendations for activities, their dedication to guest satisfaction was evident throughout our stay. Once again, I thank for all the employees who served and assisted us with the world class level.
