Google
Delicious local restaurant in Northampton that consistently and continuously serves delicious Mediterranean cuisine. The soup shown with the pictures is their "Loubia, stew only."

Rebecca Morgan

Google
Excellent salmon dishes! I've had the full entree and the salmon kebabs, and both have been cooked to perfection with the most delicious seasoning. Sadly, tbh, what their salmon has in spades, the falafel lacks.

The two workers were very kind and welcoming to me. The environment is cozy and fun, wonderful place to go with friends or alone to settle in and read. They have a great mix of foods for anyone to enjoy, which is great as my family has dietary restrictions. Great place and sweet staff!!

I wasn't sure what to expect going in. The storefront is small. It's a little dark going in. The counter is full of fresh baked goods. I had a cashew square. I don't remember the actual name. I also ordered a chicken kabob sandwich. My husband had the baba ganoush sandwich. We did order an appetizer too the spinach feta pie, also delightful. They were both incredible! Definitely the top ten sandwiches we've had. We sat outside and people watched as we ate. It really was a perfect lunch experience. I highly recommend it.

Google
Reeeally good Mediterranean food. Also a cool vibe- studied in here for a couple of hours

Google
Incredible Moroccan food in the heart of Northampton of all places. Totally authentic and well-established. My wife’s chicken tagine was out of this world and my musaka sandwich was equally delicious.

RJ R

Google
This place was one of those whole in the wall joints that you would potentially hesitate to go to if you're looking for that instagram-worthy place. However, if you really are looking for that REAL tagine experience, then this is definitely the place to go to. Skip the brunch (although their Moroccan tea and their cappuccino were great), skip the appetizers (a little disappointed with those actually), but go for the tagine 100% which is why they got a 4 star rating! Hope this helps! Oh, and great prices for what you get.

Google
Just wow! Food is amazing!!! Service is superb, and the prices are fair. The best Moroccan food I ever ate in the USA ( I’m from Israel and my dad is Moroccan) will definitely come again for more shawarma and Harrirra Soup

Eric K.

Yelp
The food was wonderful and filling, and it is a great affordable restaurant to visit if you were on a budget

Yelp
Very disappointing. Overwhelmed front end staff. Confusing menu (forgot to order bread? Stand in line again) I've had better meals from food trucks. I suspect the good people of Northampton haven't had better. If you pre-order a wrap for takeaway, I'm sure it's fine. Sardine salad Tabouli (which was served on a mound of iceberg lettuce, to appear larger and Lamb Tagine)

Yelp
Amanouz is a cute little restaurant right on main street in Northampton. It's counter service, so you order at the counter and they'll bring the food out to your table. You also bus your own table! I had some chai, which they bring in a cute silver teapot. There are a ton of veggie options to choose from. I had the falafel pita, which was yummy and filling. I also tried the almond baklava, which I had never had made with almonds before but it was sooo good. Other people ordered dishes with meat and said they were tender and well seasoned. I would definitely come back here! It's a cozy and affordable local spot. I would definitely come back here!

Yelp
For yeeeeears, I passed by Amanouz Cafe, a casual Moroccan restaurant, when I walked through the Northampton Center. It became harder and harder to walk by as good word of mouth turned into great Yelp reviews. But since I've never lived in the Northampton area, I always stuck with my favorite spots. Also, Amanouz Cafe was often very busy. I finally visited for a late lunch last weekend. Although I liked portions of my meal, I suspect Amanouz Cafe was having an off day. There were three issues with my experience. First, I ordered a chicken tagine, and they gave me lamb tagine. Because the lamb was covered with stuff, I didn't even notice until I had a few bites of the non-meat parts. I was in a hurry and I like lamb, so I just kept it. I noticed that there were mix ups with orders at a couple other tables while I was there. Second, the texture of the bone in lamb was tough. It seemed overcooked, but perhaps it was a tough piece as well. Third, my table was cleared, but it hadn't been cleaned. I ordered and paid at the counter, and then I chose a table. Only one table had a bit of separation from other guests. After I sat, I noticed food patches had been left on the table. Notwithstanding these hiccups, I saw enough that I would return. The rest of the tagine, which is essentially a stew with peas, olives, onions, dates or figs, etc., was very good. It was well seasoned. Warm flavors. Slightly sweet. Service and the atmosphere were both fine. I've got to give 3 Stars based upon my experience, but I definitely plan to give Amanouz another chance.

Yelp
I was so excited to go back here. The whole concept of this cafe is amazing. The food they churn out tastes so fresh and so satisfying. I had the shawarma which I loved. It's certainly comfort food for me. The baklava was on point as always. I personally feel that Amanouz is a rarity in the food scene and they've got a great thing going. The service was great despite how busy it was and the gentlemen behind the counter churning out the food were working so hard and so fast to make some really delicious food. Can't wait for next time.

Yelp
A real gem of a Moroccan food in Northampton! I'm not an an expert but I have to think this is the most authentic Moroccan and Middle Eastern food around. It's a very casual setting where you order at the counter, they give you a number and then bring the food out to your table. There is seating both inside and outside on the sidewalk and on a nice day it can be very pleasant. There weren't that many people when we went for dinner on a Friday evening but they seemed to be very busy with takeout or delivery orders. When they took our order they warned us there would be a wait and sure enough it took 40 minutes. But they were so nice and apologetic it was hard to be upset. The food itself was delicious. The menu is extensive and we had a hard time deciding. I had the Tagine fish, which is a kind of Moroccan stew with plenty of vegetables and a delicious broth. We topped it off with a couple of baklavas, also very tasty. I would definitely return!

Yelp
Moroccan food in a casual cafe Definitely have the green tea! So many amazing flavors. Every time I go, I get something different & im never disappointed.

Yelp
Instead of ordering individual items for our large group, Abid advised us to use his catering menu. He worked with us to put together a sumptuous feast - hummus, falafel, tabouleh, mousaka, couscous with vegetables, and chicken. Abid provided an enormous amount of delicious food at a reasonable price. The food was ready when Abid promised and he even loaded it into our car, despite the crazy busyness of the restaurant at the time. We all enjoyed the meal and thank Abid for his kindness and for his chef's mad cooking skills.

Zack G.

Yelp
Barebones counter-service place with delicious and authentic Moroccan & Mediterranean food! Their main menu hangs over the register where you order, but they also have a ton of options on their side wall as well Lot of vegetarian options and tons of desert options as well! I got the chicken kabob wrap and it was fantastic!

Marouane S.

Yelp
Best Mediterranean restaurant I've ever been to. delicious and well spiced up food that will keep you coming for more. I tried the salmon kebab with rice and veggies and it was very tasty. I also had the couscous many times, the sandwiches and the Tagine's and the only thing I can say is that they're incredibly good. Get some Moroccan mint tea to wash everything down. Thank you chef Abid for the hospitality and the great food.

Adam S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious authentic and well -fun Great value for the money too. Recommended tagines esp lamb ; couscous Merguez, not widely available Is part of many dishes here Don't forget the tabouleh Great for breakfast too Why hesitate?

Yelp
In Northampton, my friend and I came across this hole in the wall Moroccan & Mediterranean restaurant called Amanouz Cafe. It's a very small space, that looked like it made some very authentic Middle Eastern dishes. The menu is large and the prices are all very fair. It was really difficult to decide on a meal, since so many things looked like they'd be a great choice. We decided on Couscous with lamb. We decided to share. There is very minimal table service. As you walk up in line, you order and pay then they bring out the food. The inside was cute with some fun decor. They had some kids art work, looks like they drew the menu of some items. It's pretty cute. We decided to sit outside. The tables were all filthy and no one was cleaning them. We asked them to clean the tables, since it looked like it wasn't going to happen. Then our food came out. They accidentally brought us two dishes instead of one. They let us keep it, since it was made on their error. Wow! This was a lot. This was a lot even to share one plate. It looked so tasty and fresh! There was a variety of vegetables, piled over the lamb and over the couscous. I also added hot sauce over it. This was so delicious! The lamb was very tender and perfect! There was no way I could even have half of this. In reality, the piece of lamb wasn't huge, it was a nice sized piece, but the vegetables were very big chunks. We also got the Moroccan iced ginger mint tea, and that was delicious. I love ginger in anything. If you get hot tea it comes in an authentic tea pot. The food here was fresh, delicious, and overly generous portions. I loved it, and same for their tea. The place could use a little housekeeping. You're sure to find a delicious meal in their huge menu.

Alan D.

Yelp
We didn't think we would find good Moroccan food in the middle of Massachusetts, but this place was really great, and obviously popular by the amount of people eating there in the cute college town of NorthHampton. The tangine, couscous and tabouli were delicious. I would highly recommend this place and very good prices. My only criticism would be that it's a little bit dirty and the bathroom is strangely placed behind the kitchen, which you have to walk through doesn't seem sanitary, so I took a star off. I also really liked the mint tea!

Eileen B.

Yelp
Very nice grape leaves (home made). Falafel are great tasting, but mine were alittle dry. Could be because I ordered 30 on a plate? For pick up? I would recommend Amanouz for mid eastern food in. Northampton.

Henri D.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Northampton. My second favorite spot, food is on point for very reasonable prices.

Lindsey M.

Yelp
Visiting our daughter at UMASS and stumbled upon this place! We have some great Mediterranean places in Southern California but this place was next level. You can tell by the beverages they offer and the way they spell humos on their menu. We got an entree for each of us, the dolmas, spinach and feta pie, chicken kabob sandwich, shawarma sandwich, falafel sandwich, couscous Royal, and a falafel plate. Everything was absolutely delicious! Our daughters roommate hadn't had Mediterranean food before and said her falafel was life changing! Lol We definitely recommend this place to everyone!!

Gavin S.

Yelp
Amazing local spot. Chicken curry wrap was great. Huge menu to choose from. Would def come back.

Alina T.

Yelp
After many years, Amonouz still keeping up to its title. Great food and even customer service. Authentic morrocan cuisine which will leave your taste buds and stomach happy. Highly recommend this spot.

Hector K.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere for a very casual college town experience. Food is consistently awesome. Friendly staff. Outdoor eating available in warm weather on the main thoroughfare of Northampton. Check it out

Chia L.

Yelp
We ordered all three baklavas to try : almond , pistachio and walnut. We had chicken kebab over rice , swordfish steak , royal feast and spinach and feta pie and a shawarma sandwich. All the baklavas are great - not sweet. The shawarma and the chicken kebab are excellent. And the royal feast vegetables are amazing. I prefer the rice that came with the chicken than the Spanish rice that came with the swordfish. Great meal but we had to box some of it home.

Joanna M.

Yelp
I used to love this place. This restaurant was extremely unprofessional while dealing with my catering request this summer. Even though we placed the order months in advance, I was in regular contact with them leading up....the day before they canceled the delivery with no notice, and no offer of helping us figure out what to do. It was a family religious event, and we had to hire a stranger less than 24 hours out, because they wouldn't even try to help us find someone. They weren't sorry, extremely rude even though the error was theirs. After 15 years of business, I would never go there again. Do not use them for catering!

Margaret L.

Yelp
I finally tried the tajine; I should not have waited so long! I had the chicken. It was so tender! And the vegetables that surrounded it? Soft, rich with spices and salty olives. So fragrant that the woman sitting next to me looked at it appreciatively and asked what it was. Don't wait as long as I did to try it!

Paige B.

Yelp
Quick service, great food. Almost all diets can find something here vegan or meat eater doesn't matter.

Ellen W.

Yelp
Tasty fresh food. Huge menu. Kind service. Everything prepared to order, I think, so don't go if you're in a hurry. Small friendly place.

Enit S.

Yelp
Out of sight delicious. I'm just upset that I haven't eaten here before. What a great meal at an affordable price, and they also have outdoor seating which is great during these Fall days. Staff was great, service was great, and they're always busy so you may have to wait but its worth it. Their salads are outstanding. I had the avocado salad and the daily special of swordfish cooked in a tagine. It came with yellow saffron rice, vegetables, and of course the freshly cooked sword fish. You have to order their specialty moroccan mint tea, it was unlike anything I've ever tasted. We were too full to eat dessert there so we grabbed some to go and I can also confirm that they're fantastic. Just a great meal all around! Already making plans to go back.

Meghana A.

Yelp
This is where flavor meets modesty. If you're in the north hamptons area and looking for a hearty meal its definitely worth a stop. The ambiance is low key like you've walked into someone's dining room, and watch the chefs in action. We tried the dolma (3 grape leaf rolls over a mound of salad), chicken kebab on lavash bread packed with salad, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, and tahini sauce and sampled a variety of sweets baklava, bourma, mushaba.... if I had to pick a fav it would be the pistachio bourma. The service is excellent.. they make you feel truly at home with their smiles.

Sherry M.

Yelp
Second time I've been here I tried two of the wraps, and they are delicious. I've had a total of seven dishes and every single one I would eat again, and again!

Andrew D.

Yelp
10/10 gem in downtown Northampton. The flavors here are incredible! I keep going back for their Amanouz Royal Feast (some of the best Tabbouleh I've ever had). We've been waited by the same guy each time - who at this point is part of the experience and keeps us returning! They also pay attention to their presentation of food which I greatly appreciate. I'd also recommend the falafel -- we've gotten that each time we've returned. My favorite part about the meal is how healthy it is - we always walk away feeling great no matter how stuffed we are. There is a reason this place gets so busy! Be sure to stop by.

A B.

Yelp
Excellent food, fairly priced, & friendly, professional, prompt service. The honey balls & sesame pistachio cookie & Naz Naz Moroccan coffee were also delectable. Interior can be a bit tight but the ambiance is warm & cozy, what you'd expect at a cafe in Morocco. Hope to return.

Marylin R.

Yelp
Food good but atmosphere chaotic. Not a restful place to eat. Best as takeout perhaps.

Aida Z.

Yelp
The food was just ok, I got chicken kabob sandwich and chicken with couscous. Neither were super flavorful except for the sauce on the side, which tasted like generic hot sauce. I don't think it's worth it for the price, but it wasn't bad and I don't regret trying this place. The salads people were eating near me looked good, so maybe thats better than what I ordered. The interior could use some updating, and there were a couple flies flying around. I did find it funny they sold these little chocolate mousses from Costco for like 4-5 dollars each cus I bought them in a 6 pack or 8 pack for maybe like 10 dollars. 3 stars because while it wasn't bad, I wont ever come again.

Michael M.

Yelp
This is the REAL DEAL for North African, MOROCCAN tagine, couscous, harira. Owner from the Sous, s.w. of Marrakesh. Can't speak about dishes that people expect in a "Mediterranean" place that are not natively Moroccan like hummus, falafel, "eastern" stuff like that but I'd bet they're high quality. It's clear the owner, who has been in business for decades, cares about what he puts on the table for customers. Just don't expect quiet. If I lived closer I'd be ordering out from here all the time!

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Frankly, you all are horrible people and should be ashamed of yourselves. I had one of the most outrageous dining experiences of my life today: here with a friend who has a very energetic and particular 20 month old son and we were desperate for pancakes for him. The bistro next to Amanouz thankfully had them, but not the kind of food my friend and I were looking for. We ordered pancakes and the manager at the bistro graciously directed us next door. Juggling the baby and trying to order more food, we snagged a table outdoors and went into Amanouz to order our meals - when the server FINALLY came out after 20 minutes with an iced coffee and saw we were still seated in front of the bistro, she refused service. I argued with her about how there weren't any tables in front of Amanouz and we couldn't go inside because the baby would scream and run around - mind you it is HOT and tight and dangerous inside for a toddler. Still she refused so I said I would go inside the bistro for permission. I spoke to the manager there who acknowledged there had been prior disputes about the seating arrangements but that because we had ordered food from them, it was absolutely fine. Begrudgingly, the server at Amanouz accepted this and I promised her that if anyone gave her issue, they could take it up with me. We did not get our food until 53 minutes after placing our order (two wraps!) ... multiple people who had ordered well after us had received their food... this was clearly a purposeful and petty move to punish us for not sitting in front of their restaurant. I am appalled. Where is your kindness, humanity, and sympathy for people in complicated situations? I will never ever return here and will be sure to let everyone I know who lives in Northampton and Westhampton what transpired today.

R T.

Yelp
This might be a fine atmosphere if you're not a woman eating alone. My food was fine, not remarkable, but I did not get to eat much of it because my server would not leave me alone. Even after I told him I don't give my phone number to strangers and that I'm from out of town, he would not stop asking me personal questions and saying I should come back, hang out with him, message him, etc. I felt extremely uncomfortable that he would not take no for an answer, and what's even worse is that I was the only person in the restaurant, and I am sure the other employees could hear what he was saying but no one helped me out. I am disheartened by this and found the whole experience unappetizing and disappointing.

Alisa C.

Yelp
Date night did not disappoint at Amanouz Cafe. My dining partner has never tried Moroccan food before and this was spot on with lots of fresh food and flavor. My Bastilla was a little dry but the flavor was outstanding. The tagine came out hot and full of delightful flavors of fresh veggies, rich spices, and fresh herbs. It was so perfect. The side salad came with the Bastilla and it was so fresh and flavorful with the dressing. The staff was super helpful and friendly and they added some entertaining flair that made our outdoor dining experience special. I would definitely recommend. Don't look for ambiance here, look for flavor. It's worth it.

Sho R.

Yelp
This is a small Moroccan place, but food is really good. As other Yelper's mentioned, Moroccan Mint tea is something you shouldn't miss. It is a sweet black tea with mint flavor. Ginger herb tea was just ginger boiled in water. Amanouz Royal Feast is a good way to try many of their appetizers. All appetizers were really good. Tagine Fez was an excellent entree. Lamp was extremely tender. Prune in the Tagine was a taste I never had before, but was really good. Shawarma was huge, and really good. Their restroom is in the back of the restaurant. You have to walk through the kitchen to access it.

Nancy G.

Yelp
The food was tasty and service was friendly. But they need to wash their water container. I went to get a refill and looked at the container. Hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Someone could get sick. Please scrub it! Hate to see a wonderful place get bad press from that water

Caroline W.

Yelp
10/10 great! They have so many off the menu options like the Sofia omelet which is vegetarian and the staff is very nice and they have lovely outdoor seating. Good break from college dining hall food! Will be returning!

Brianna Y.

Yelp
We were really disappointed in the food and our experience overall. We went here because the reviews were so solid and I had a taste for Mediterranean. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that the waiter was harried. We waited patiently, gave our orders and then sat as he continued to toss around dishes and silverware in frustration and yell at the food prep people. Then, our food came - and it was a far cry from what I was expecting. The falafel were cold and tasted like old oil; the tabouli was tasty but overdressed; and my husband's shawarma wrap was not like any shawarma I've ever encountered - it was more akin to ground meat. I ate a fraction of the disappointing fare (their hummus platter, which was supposed to be a popular dish) and left.

Christina W.

Yelp
I eat here every time I am in town! The Royal Feast is the perfect dinner after a long day. Parking is difficult sometimes, but the food is worth it!!!

L I.

Yelp
Love, love the food. Prices are great for the quality and quantity. A go to. Recommend the Exotic Salad in the summertime, Couscous with Chicken, or any of the Tangine options any time of year. So many pastries to choose from, its overwhelming! Vegetarian choices. Not a place if you're in a rush. Couscous with Chicken has large slices of stewed carrot, eggplant, zucchini, potato, butternut squash, and green pepper. Tangine is also brimming with veggies. Felafal wrap is good but plain, others in town use more non traditional fillings and therefore are more flavorful. Very casual. Cozy table spacing. Bus your own table = may need to wipe up after the party before you. If table service is your thing, this is not the place for you.

jeffrey m.

Yelp
Great for Saturday morning breakfast. Nice selections, reasonably priced, Café atmosphere and friendly service.

P M.

Yelp
Best Mediterranean food around! Stopped in on a hot Friday night for a quick dinner. Outdoor seating was available and offers a lot of extra space to this small restaurant. My wife had the Marrakech Plate, stewed slightly spicy lentils over a thick crepe topped with succulent lamb. I ask the staff for a fish recommendation. I went with the suggestion of salmon kebab. I had mine with a salad, but you could get rice or couscous. I was totally skeptical that the salmon would be woefully over cooked. To my delight it was charred on the outside and beautifully moist on the inside. The portion was generous and the veggies on the skewer were well seasoned. Please check out Amanouz, it doesn't look like much but the food never disappoints.

A. R.

Yelp
My go-to weekend lunch spot! !I always order the feast, which has falafel, hummus, tabouli, etc, and bread. Their sandwiches are also excellent and always include a lot of tahini sauce. They also have a fairly good selection of middle eastern desserts like maamoul. Sometimes I feel like the food can be a bit too salty, but that is just personal preference.

Kim D.

Yelp
The food is so good, fresh and full of flavor. Truly authentic. A small restaurant with big taste.

E C.

Yelp
Excellent food at reasonable prices! And it's healthy Mediterranean eating. The loubia bean soup is real good.

Jeanie N.

Yelp
I'm upset that this place is 4.5 stars and not a full 5 stars! The food here is AMAZING - from taste to portions and price! For ~$22 (includes tax and tip!) you can get a HUGE portion of tagine with lots of veggies and/or meat. I loved their stewed, flavorful veggies (carrots and lentils!) and their meat was fall off the bone, super tender and yummy! Would come back to this place in a heartbeat and would go out of my way to eat here! Good covid measures of online ordering + pick up, and outdoor seating available

A S.

Yelp
Food is good especially the dishes cooked in the tagine conical shape bowl. The inside is small and cramped but there is an outdoor dining option now. Don't recall the quality of the service.

Nicholas H.

Yelp
A Main Street standout for many years: excellent Middle-Eastern food in a comfortable and friendly location.

Briar L.

Yelp
I've gone here now three times and each one is worse, so I guess I'm going to cut it off here. Last time some Aussie (?) was behind the counter, super nice if a little too talkative. Overall not a bad visit but I remember the food being much better a few years back. Tonight a woman was behind the counter, incredibly rude and even rolled her eyes at me for reminding the staff that I ordered my food to-go as I saw they were about to put it on plates for dining in. Once my order was completed and packed up, she put it off to the side and forgot about it even though I was standing right there. One of the other folks in the back asked what I was doing still standing there, and if I was waiting on an order. I replied that I was, and heard an "oops" muttered from the woman in the back, and she handed me my food as if it had just finished. Normally I'd understand if it was busy, things happen, but I was the only one standing there. Onto the food, the veggies in my falafel sandwich and tomatoes in my hummus were completely sour. The tang stung my tongue so badly it was pretty inedible. Furthermore, the veggies in my sandwich were so full of liquid it completely fell apart. All in all I'm good on coming back. I had two decent meals here so overall just seems like they're struggling to find good help.
