"Omaha’s only vegan coffee shop, Amateur makes the usual lineup of espresso-based coffee drinks with either oat milk or almond milk, and serves a wide array of vegan pastries from a few local bakeries with which it’s partnered. House-made vegan waffles come with or without chocolate chips, and the shop’s bags of beans, which change seasonally, are available in a small retail area. It also serves Omaha-made Artemis tea." - Sarah Baker Hansen

Best coffee I’ve ever had. Hands down. I got an oat milk latte which is my go to order for trying new places, and this one was impeccable. Every drink was so Smooth, the balance of nutty and sweet notes in the espresso was perfect. The baristas are very knowledge, and I love the glass jars they sell their coffee in! Yay for the environment 🫶🏽

Google
Great little coffee shop! I had white raspberry mocha and it was absolutely delicious! I’m out of state but will come back when in Omaha again! Great service with smiley faces. Love it!

Google
The single origin espresso is absolutely to die for. The waffles are made fresh in house and a must try. And they are eco friendly so you can buy a cool glass jar and bring it back for refills!!!! Also everything is roasted in house.

Ruvy

Google
Cute little vegan shop. The staff were super friendly and helpful! I had their breakfast sandwich, gluten free chocolate frosted brownie and a pumpkin spice latte with their homemade coconut whipped cream. The service was quick. And the food was 9/10! I didn’t think I’d like tofu egg but it felt like I was eating the real thing. 10/10 would recommend checking this place out if you like pastries and good coffee.

Google
My family and I stopped in for coffee and baked treats and our visit did not disappoint! Amateur Coffee has some nice daily brews that you can also purchase the beans to take home while also offering inventive lattes and other caffeinated beverages to charge you up! The baristas were super helpful and attentive during our visit. I will definitely be back for more good coffee and to take some beans home this time!

Google
This place has great coffee. I ordered to go and didn’t realize they charge for cups, they give you a mason jar for to go orders (which I frankly didnt want a small mason jar and think it’s a little much to charge a customer who is buying coffee a glass cup) I also ordered the biscuit sandwich, and I found it to be dry and not tasteful. I only had two bites. Overall I recommend the coffee and bring your own cup! Pass on the food options.

Google
I normally LOVE this place. Everything is VEGAN and their coffee is great hence the 5 stars! Today's coffee was an exception... My coffee today was unreasonably watered down. The barista unfortunately didn't empty the steaming pitcher after rinsing it out. Additionally the cashier (bless his heart) didn't discount the jars we returned. But I understand mistakes happen and newer employees need training. I'm very grateful that we have a fully vegan store and wish we had more. Keep spreading the love!

Google
The cutest little place! The coffee was great! I have yet to try their black coffee (which is a true test) but the lattes are great! I love the fact that they use glass bottles!! If you bring it back they give you $1 off your next order 💗 My favorite thing about this place is that their default milk is Oatmilk instead of cow milk! Not to mention everything the serve is vegan which is pretty cool for anyone following that lifestyle. The staff was so amazing and friendly! If you haven’t tried Amateur out yet, don’t you think it’s time?!

Yelp
Their winter menu is incredible! The hot cocoa was delicious and not too overly sweet, we were bummed they didn't add the homemade marshmallows in our cup but we have all winter to try it!!! The beet latte is a delicious wellness drink, I love how every single drink I ordered was not too sweet, it almost feels like a huge treat! The day I went was a Saturday morning and it was very busy but they were so fast and quick to get everyone's drinks with JUST two employees! We love this local coffee shop, and we absolutely love the reusable jars so great for the environment

Katie P.

Yelp
I've been to Amateur coffee a few times now and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great coffee. I have never been disappointed! I'm a sucker for a good featured menu, and they always deliver with delicious, unique drinks! There's always something new to try. Their pastries are delish too. They are an all vegan coffee shop and I would never be able to tell that the pastries were vegan, i'm not vegan and they taste completely normal and delish to me! The staff is always super kind and helpful. I love the vibe inside too, but be warned, it's a pretty small space and it has been packed every time I have gone. I also wouldn't recommend going if you are in a hurry, we don't always get our orders super fast, which has always been ok with us. They have cute prints, merch, coffee gear, etc. to browse while you wait!

Connie J.

Yelp
Love this little coffee shop! Small but cozy. Belly up to the bar and you can watch the baristas making drinks. I enjoy their coffee, it's not bitter to me. To-go coffee is served in a glass jar or you can bring your own jar/cup/mug/travel cup etc. They have some great artwork cards and prints for sale too by a local artist. There are pastries available too! Enjoy!

Justin S.

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops in Omaha. High quality beans that they roast themselves and a delicious assortment of vegan treats. I had the vegan breakfast sandwich recently and it was fantastic. The barista's were friendly and helpful. If you get your drink to go be aware that the drinks will come in reusable glass cups that come with that surcharge that is refunded if you bring it back. One dollar for the cup and one dollar for the lid.

Olyvia K.

Yelp
Right when you walk in, you are greeted with lots of colorful mugs and merch to your right. The barista was super friendly and service was super quick! I got the iced caramel latte and my boyfriend got the brown sugar shaken. I LOVED both. The caramel latte was much more sweet and creamy. While the brown sugar shaken had more espresso flavor. I really love how everything there is vegan and how you can get their cute glass jars! If you buy a glass jar for $2 and bring it back for them to put your drink in, you get $2 off! Even with buying both our glass jars along with two drinks, it was less expensive than Starbucks. I love how they are making an effort to prevent waste by utilizing the glass jars. I can't wait to come back and try another drink soon!

Nikki H.

Yelp
Vegan or not this coffee takes the cake (you can get that here too). The owners are fantastic and their menu offers a wide variety of coffees. Drink less milk and try this eco friendly, resourceful coffee shop complete with in-house roastery! This is a coffee shop you don't want to miss.

Cheryl W.

Yelp
This place is so cute and vibrant. They sell drinks, a few pastries, and some merch designed by local artists. The location is very convenient. There's a small parking lot behind the building. Otherwise, there's street parking in front after 9am. Right next door is Lisa's Radial Cafe which has some good food. Next to Lisa's is one of my favorite bakeries called Sweet Magnolias. All within a few feet! I bought an iced pistachio latte and an iced smoky caramel latte. You have the option of spending an additional $2 per drink to get the reusable jar, so I did that! The employees are very friendly and took the time to explain how their reusable jar program works as it was my first time there. Like the sticker says, you can get $2 off your next drink by taking in your glass jar. They swap out your jar for a new one when you take it in the next time you stop there. One of the employees said she uses hers to store spices in her pantry which is super cute! I also purchased some beautiful postcards done by Jasmyn Wichert, who I learned, after looking her up to find more of her art, is the owner!!! This was first time visiting this coffee shop and it's already one of my favorites!

Yelp
Great local Omaha coffee shop, in a prime location! This shop is all vegan, and uses only reusable dishes, cups, and paper straws! They do get their pastries from around the Corner "Sweet Magnolia's". Service is always as quick as it can be! Very very small sitting area inside. Consists of 10 barstools, and a large bench for 2ish people, but no table. Most people take to go, take to go cups are $2, but you can return for a discount on your next purchase!

Salem B.

Yelp
The amaretto coffee was top notch. Just sweet enough with a full bodied coffee taste. I got the gf breakfast sandwich as well. It was decent and fit the bill for a quick breakfast. Delivery through their website was easy. I was able to order ahead of time the night before.

Dan S.

Yelp
Even though I lived around the block from here for a while, I didn't make it here until after I moved (a few miles away). I'd say it has a hipsterish vibe, the barista's have always been friendly and I like their glass jars

Allie S.

Yelp
A must stop for vegans (and non-vegans) for great coffee and delicious baked goods, all vegan. All of the drinks come with oat milk by default (a dream) and in reusable glass jars. I've had the shaken brown sugar espresso and the iced pistachio latte, both of which were amazing, perfect balance of espresso versus sweetness/flavor. The baked goods are some of the best I've had-the cinnamon sugar donut and blueberry scone are two of my favorites. If you're in the Omaha area definitely give Amateur a try! If I lived closer I would be a regular.

Stephanie L.

Yelp
As a sustainability professional and self proclaimed tree hugger, I'm obsessed with this place. The barista helped me choose a drink and their recommendation was perfect. I've been a few times now cuz I love the mission and I gotta say, nothing beats the pistachio latte the barista recommended my first visit. Make sure to stop by sweet magnolias next door as well!!

Madeline R.

Yelp
The best coffee in Omaha! First, they actually put your drinks in real dishes and cups. So many coffee shops are using plastic (even when you are staying in). Second, their cortados are served with tonic which is much appreciated. Their matcha is the best! They use Artemis tea for matchas. Very lovely and friendly people!

Amber N.

Yelp
I love small coffee shops and love to frequent more than the larger coffee chains because of the baristas being more personable and the coffee is ground and fresh. This particular coffee spot is different in that everything, including the coffee is vegan. We decided to try a blueberry scone and had two of the larger cups of coffee. We sat and ate in the establishment. It's decorated cute and the barista was super nice and chatty. We watched her make our coffees. The taste of both coffees were really good. My only complaint is that it was not super hot and I love hot coffee. This was just warm. The scone was ok as well. They had a dozen different types of coffee to try so I would return to try something else off that menu.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Honestly delicious and I loved their glass cup thing!! Only 4 stars bc they didn't have any sugar free flavors :)

AshNJusty N.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. Service is sooo great! Warm, welcoming & patient! Amazing vibes. It is a smaller shop so the space is semi- limited but they make it work with a cozy patio in the back! The drinks are oh so good! And so is the food in here! Vegan & must try! Also, fun fact is, their glass jar system! They are more than happy to chat about it :-) ~ Ash & Justy

Bill L.

Yelp
Friendly and attentive staff. Vegan friendly menu. Large selection of coffee and tea Wide selection of hot and cold coffee and tea beverages. Love the glass jar program to reduce the paper in the landfill. Shop is fun and eclectic. Great neighborhood coffee shop.

Dan H.

Yelp
A must stop when in Omaha. Delish coffee, delish vegan treats, and super-kind people working here.

Bracken K.

Yelp
Obviously plenty of vegan options, so we're all good there. Staff was super nice as well. I tried to order a chai and they were all out. The person at the counter suggested the Lady London Fog in a Jar, so I ordered that. Oh my gods, it was so sweet, nothing like any chai I've ever had. Like I could feel the diabeetus developing as I sipped. My spouse ordered the Golden Mylk Turmeric Latté in a Jar. Luckily she is a fan of sugar so we switched. She even said it was very sweet and she would eat spoonfuls of sugar if no one was paying attention. The turmeric thing was alright, still way too sweet but not diabeetus sweet. We ordered chicken & waffles and the breakfast sandwich. The chicken & waffles came with whipped cream on the waffle? I've never. I'm clutching my pearls writing this review about to succumb to the vapors. What kind of sicko puts whipped cream on their chicken & waffles? Is this a joke? Am I in a US themed restaurant in Europe? Does this place use catsup as bbq sauce? Do they think La Croix is too spicy? I ate the faux chicken, which was good, and gave the rest to my spouse. The breakfast sandwich was alright. For a gluten free "biscuit" it was good but it wasn't a biscuit. I've spent a lot of time in the northern parts of the US. Boston, Seattle, the coasts generally, Chicago... But this part of the Midwest, I dunno what it is but their take on southern is not ideal. Tl;dr if you think black pepper spicy and tap water on white bread is flavorful, this is your spot. If you like sugar blasted drinks, this place is for you. If you know from a southern biscuit or chicken & waffles and like your hot liquids to taste like the thing being brewed, this is not your #1 stop.

Madeline P.

Yelp
A favorite local coffee shop. Their drinks automatically come with Oatmilk since the shop is entirely vegan. I am not a huge fan of vegan food but I love the coffee and tea quality here! They give you a glass reusable jar that you can bring back for money off your next drink. I love this type of reusable, sustainable practice! They sell fun art and merch along with local tea combinations! If you haven't been yet, its a must try. Our favorites are an iced Matcha or an iced latte with oatmilk!

Emily S.

Yelp
The BEST coffee in Omaha! The staff is so welcoming and kind every single time I'm in there. I love their seasonal changing menu, the pastries are always soft and fresh, and the breakfast sandwiches are awesome. Can't say enough good things about this place. Their reusable jar program is really awesome, and it's nice to see a place care about the planet and their community. Definitely go here if you haven't tried it, and go here again if you have!

Armando L.

Yelp
Brewed coffee. Enjoyed a nice Ethiopian coffee, simple elegant smooth and berry delicious Quiet on a Sunday afternoon.

Isabel R.

Yelp
Love this vegan coffee shop! Every drink, tea, and pastry I've tried at amateur has been absolutely lovely and my tummy doesn't feel horrible after having their food & drinks!! Personally take friends and family here when they visit from out of town - would recommend you try out. (Have taken kids here too and they liked the hot chocolates even more than the chains & didn't even realize it was vegan until I explained)

Allie W.

Yelp
Amazing coffee and service - would highly recommend stopping here to anyone who is wanting a great coffee!

Bret B.

Yelp
A wonderful experience. The people, coffee, atmosphere and the tasty baked goods were all 5 star. I had two drinks: double espresso and finished with a macchiato. I love the touch of a actual cups along with a small sparkling. If you enjoy your coffee properly presented this is the place. The cherry scone was fabulous - made fresh by the next door bakery. Lastly I purchased some freshly roasted beans and will let you know how they taste. Jasmine and Jacob are the owners and they also took my order and made my coffee. Great humans. Enjoy -

Joie F.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and it's so nice to find a place where dairy isn't the go to milk! Oat milk is the staple here! Staff is friendly and the service was wonderful! The ambiance is cute and quaint and DEDICATED to the cause! Glasses are actually GLASS jars and when drinks are brought back one received $2 off! Love the keeping it green ideal! #SupportYourLocalCoffeeScene

Marianna R.

Yelp
Oh my goodness YES!!!!!!! Do NOT let the 'vegan' descriptor deter you from visiting!!! This place ROCKS!!!! Aiden was more than helpful explaining how things work and the fact that everything is dairy/meat free. I'm all good with that but I was so indecisive about a coffee other than 'hot'. He steered me towards a pistachio latte. One of my favorite flavors and, let me tell you, soooooo delicious and soooooo much better than that other big, name coffee place. Everything comes in recyclable glass jars with coozies that you clean and return for $2 off your next order. I also had to add a blueberry scone. It was also fresh and delicious-stuffed full of blueberries and glazed with a delectable sweet glaze. It wasn't crumbly like a biscuit-type scone but more like a muffin and went so well with my latte. They use oat milk for their latte bases which gives the lattes a really rich, comforting feel. They also serve unique teas and teas, coffees, and merchandise. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of their offerings. Parking is a little difficult but worth it.

Sabrina D.

Yelp
After a few years and several visits and a wide array of samplings, I wanted to come back and update my review. First off, I genuinely believe Amateur Coffee is an incredible roaster, and I've enjoyed each and every offering I've had. From creative Italian sodas to a basic drip of in-house roasted coffees, to seasonal lattes and their staple menu items: they have a LOT to offer every kind of coffee drinker. Each item they offer is made from high quality ingredients (if you're looking for a budget coffeeshop, this isn't your spot). In addition, they pride themselves on crafting ONLY vegan options, which I can imagine is a huge attraction and sigh of relief for the vegan community. They're also very committed to reducing waste, and switched to only serving their beverages in glass jars + utilize a recycling program/incentive for their customers. Awesome! I can only guess that must be a logistical nightmare some days, but I admire their commitment to sustainability and best practices. However, I have experienced a consistent lack of connection when I've visited. I hesitated to even mention it because I realize that I am not their targeted customer + in general, I don't connect a whole lot to the pillars they've built their brand on. But I do believe that it's a business' job to serve and welcome and invite any customer (especially those who return) into their craft. I have yet to visit the parlor and feel genuinely "at home" - which is a crucial component of what makes small coffee shops so valuable.

Kinley M.

Yelp
I keep trying to give this place a chance because most people seem to love it. I have been here four times the past year and every time I am let down. this morning was the tipping point, and after about five minutes of waiting for the barista to finish the drink she was making without even saying a word to me or acknowledging me, I just walked out. This girl has helped me multiple times and she is extremely unfriendly and rude. Aside from her, I believe this is a nondairy coffee shop. It would be helpful if this was listed somewhere on the menu or if the baristas would communicate this to customers but it is not. I hate the taste of oat milk and I ordered a latte the first time I came here thinking it would be made with 2% or whole milk and my first sip I tasted oat milk and I asked her if I got the wrong drink and she told me that all drinks are made with oat milk. What the heck??? the coffee is good. If you're going here for a black coffee, I would maybe encourage it more???? although the workers are just not nice... bummer. you also are paying extra for a glass container that your drink comes in. which is great because it's reusable but again it is not communicated to the customer so when you see 7 to 8 dollars for a drink and you're from out of town and don't have the opportunity to bring it back it's unfortunate.

Adele F.

Yelp
best gluten free vegan breakfast sandwich I've ever had and I'm old! Also, loved the reusable jars with lids and real non-paper jar wrap for coffee! so nice and cozy place!

Ava B.

Yelp
Great gem in Omaha! We ordered the banana split latte (seen below) and the brown sugar shaken espresso. At the first sip of the brown sugar it was an "oh f**k" expression in the best way possible. I would describe it as sweet but still bold which is impeccable combination. The banana split was also a great drink. The use of oat milk in their drinks just really elevates them compared to other coffee shops. The store is cute with great merch and local prints for sale. Our barista was kind and crafted our drinks quickly!

Jazmine H.

Yelp
I really love this coffee shop. The flavors are unique and their recycling jar incentive is very unique. The inside of the shop is very cute.

Nick P.

Yelp
Small roaster with a great brew. A cozy space with a secluded outdoor nook. Vegan friendly ... omnivores welcome ... delicious baked goods and don't forget the fantastic coffee. Sit down if you have a few minutes to really enjoy your beverage or take it to go in a reusable container!! Yay

Sarah T.

Yelp
I had no idea what to expect. The exterior of Amateur Coffee is alongside Dodge St, which is a rather aggressive Omaha stretch and street parking is limited by time of day. However, having been here twice now (two days in a row) I have found there is an understated parking lot behind Amateur! So don't be like me and park on the street -- head straight to the alley to park. They have a teeny cute patio in the back and plenty of seating inside. Employees are all masked. The art work is apparently all done by the owner, which is incredible. Next time I come in, I'm definitely buying one of everything! And now to the coffee--I had the Trick or Treat drink in the spirit of the season, which was pretty good! They hide a mixture of candy at the bottom of the drink, which was a nice coffee-desert. Second time going, I had their cappuccino which was DELICIOUS. Props to the person mixing drinks -- they knocked it out of the park. Unbeknownst to me, when you ask for a drink to go they give you a jar to bring back to cut down on waste--love it!

Scout W.

Yelp
Lovely little spot serving all vegan drinks and treats. Their coffee and tea drinks are great and I love that they are all vegan and committed to limiting waste. The shop is pretty small but still cozy to work or enjoy drinks.

Michael T.

Yelp
Cute little spot with good vegan options! A socially-conscious business, and a great asset to the local community. PRO TIP: Go around back for free parking stalls.

Kate S.

Yelp
We've been going to Amateur since they opened and love it. I love their seasonal menu and my husband always gets their iced mocha. He thinks it's the best in town. They're always super friendly and the shop is super cute. It is a small space so don't expect to stay long if you have a kid. It's 100% vegan but regardless one of the top if not the top coffee shop in Omaha.

Sydney P.

Yelp
This place is a local gem. Every time I've gone there, I have loved the service (they are GREAT at giving you recommendations), the drinks are fantastic and the handmade version of the chocolate hostess chocolate cupcake was rich and delicious. But even more wonderful than all of that is that it's vegan with oatmilk as the default AND that they have their exchangeable glass jar program for drinks on the go. That means NO WASTE. No paper or plastic cups. With the relaxed vibe of the location, high quality drinks, great baked goods and a eco-conscious focus, this is a must-stop shop.

Michelle D.

Yelp
I love this place! The coffee is very good and the pastries are awesome. Most love their focus on sustainability. Shop local!!

Andrea A.

Yelp
This small coffee shop is a hidden gem within Omaha. When you walk in you are immediately hit with the smells of freshly made coffee and sights of delicious baked goods. They have a jar recycling program for their drinks to cut down on waste. Get a jar to go or have a glass and sit on their patio! Great place to sit and talk with friends and enjoy a relaxing day. Staff is friendly and helpful. They can recommend the perfect drink for anyone!

Jeffrey L.

Yelp
Very nice to visit finally! A small coffee shop right off the busy street of Cuming. Parking is evidently in the back. The coffee was excellent and a fresh donut from Sweet Magnolia bake shop around the corner. My Americano came in a small jar with a koozie. Nice touch. Recycles and get a discount if you use again! Very nice service with a smile :) Will be glad to come back again.

Jean F.

Yelp
From Yelp reviews, I was expecting the coffee to not be as good as normal, but they WERE WRONG. The coffee here is delicious & professionally done. It's smooth and creamy and they even have almond milk and let me have maple syrup in mine since I couldn't have syrups. Twice now I've been here for lattes and their AMAZING vegan, GF waffles for $6 that are crispy AND soft and sooooo delicious. Like for someone who craves waffles & has food allergies and hasn't had waffles in over a year I almost cried Even if they're busy, the staff is incredibly kind and cheerful and I'm recommending them to everyone in the area! One note: there's street parking or parking along the next street & it's a short walk. They also have coffee for sale & a little store & a wood bar that's nice to study or work at. It's so great!!

Jordan T.

Yelp
This tiny little coffee shop was ADORABLE. With the line, "Love something more", this little vegan shop provides such a serene place to grab coffee. I had the Blueberry Cold Brew Bop and it slapped. The cold brew was fantastic and the touch of blueberry syrup, whip, and blueberries on top came together and made this a super refreshing drink. Not a style of coffee I'd usually go for, but this was so good!

Dawn B.

Yelp
Fab coffee! Wonderful service, care and attention to detail and friendly people. They also have a great selection of tees that are locally made. They brought their own coffee which makes it extra yummy yummy. Definitely worth your stop one of my top two favorite coffee places in Omaha if you were real coffee aficionado you need to go here.

Chelsea S.

Yelp
This was my first time here with a friend and I was so excited. The staff was super nice and I explained to them it was their first time and they walked me through their menus. I got a gluten free chocolate brownie with chocolate frosting and mixed the syrups of mocha and maple with almond milk in my latte. The staff was all wearing gloves and stayed behind the counter. They were cleaning and offered outdoor seating that was 6 feet apart from one another. Overall, the environment was great and I felt very safe here with their COVID-19 prcautions. They also offer lots of to go options which is nice for the area since there is little parking!

Kurt S.

Yelp
I stopped in here with my daughter about a month ago and it was a good experience. We were the only ones there for most of the time, so it was kind of nice to be able to chat with the two guys that worked there and get to know the place a little bit. Both guys were super nice and accommodating. I ordered the Pistachio Iced Latte, a cinnamon sugar donut, roasted strawberry scone, and a hot chocolate. All together it was about $21, so a little bit pricier than I imagined. The Pistachio iced latte was really good. The donut and scone were just okay. And the hot chocolate was good. Nothing really blew me away. All in all, this is a cute little, vegan coffee shop that I'd like to go back to and try something else.

Kathy G.

Yelp
OMG-- I'm obsessed with this place!! I'm not local, but will be back when I'm in town!! I had a GF chocolate chip waffle with warmed up syrup-- YUM!! Best EVER!! I also got a gluten free brownie & pumpkin bread for my mom to try. I got an iced pistachio latte with oat milk. Very tasty! They give all drinks in jars, when you bring your jar back, you get a discount on your next coffee. Pretty cool set up! I think everything is vegan, I could have that wrong, but love this because you won't accidentally get milk in your coffee!! Really appreciate the gluten free & dairy free options! Nice work accommodating!!

Luna R.

Yelp
I feel so lucky to have this 100% vegan specialty coffee shop right here in Omaha, definitely some of the finest quality coffee I have tried! There is an array of unique drinks to choose from, including options other than coffee such as tea and seasonal drinks that rotate throughout the year. I highly recommend the pistachio latte or the beet & ginger wellness drink. They also have a killer pumpkin spice latte. They sell fresh baked pastries (gf options) from the bakery next door, and they even have a homemade gluten free waffle which is delicious. I also adore their encouragement of zero-waste habits through the reusable jar program :) great business to support!
