The 16 Best Restaurants In Juárez, Mexico City 2024

"Amaya does small, shareable plates and self-described “bizarre” natural wines from all over the world. The menu is compact and changes week to week, but there’s always a mix of seasonal seafood, pastas, and vegetable-heavy dishes, like a brussels sprout tostada we devoured as soon as it hit the table. Head here for a big, wine-fueled lunch against a backdrop of colorful Oaxacan tile and exposed brick, and get the panna cotta with rhubarb compote if you see it on the menu." - guillaume guevara

"Concrete columns, exposed ceiling ducts, and a colorful mural combine into an urban-chic look at Amaya, a natural wine–focused farm-to-table restaurant in Colonia Juarez . Start with something funky off the wine list before moving on to the meal. Fried soft shell crab, ricotta gnocchi, a few crudos and aguachiles, roasted rabbit for two—the menu here beautifully melds Mexican tropes and ingredients into a hyper-local, seasonal framework. The cooking style is relaxed and skillful, with surprising twists in every dish." - Naomi Tomky, Scarlett Lindeman

"The latest dining room by star chef Jair Téllez (of MeroToro fame), Amaya reflects its proprietor’s belief that quality ingredients speak for themselves, with little need for overdramatic presentations or reliance on technological gimmickry. This translates to scrumptious bistro classics, skewing Mediterranean perhaps, that are by no means afraid to go rich. Regulars order grilled seafood like grouper from the ever-changing menu, or heartier indulgences like slow-cooked lamb or a mammoth pork chop. The attractive dining room features huge casement windows that open to the street; inside, gorgeous tile floors and a bold, colorful mural warm the otherwise stark, industrial decor."

Amazing food and Incredible service. Definitely a unique take on Mexican flavors. Staff is very attentive and take very good care of you. We got the ceviche, the chorizo rice, the soft shell crab and the panacotta. The ingredients and quality was impeccable and definitely one of the top restaurants in Mexico City. Definitely worth a visit.

We ordered (same order as photos): 1. Sweet potato (by accident) 2. Peruvian ceviche 3. Chicken 4. Chorizo rice 5. Chocolate cake Sweet potatoes was by far our favorite dish. We ordered the ceviche with sweet potato but there was a misunderstanding and they brought us the sweet potato dish and let us eat it for free. Such great service! The ceviche was fresh and delicious and came with blue tostadas to eat with it. The chicken was good. I loved the yogurt and dill dressing so much that came with the salad. The arroz was okay. It was hot and yummy and fresh, but I’m not a big fan or chorizo. I wish I had ordered the vegetarian rice, but I had to get what the others in my group wanted as we were sharing. THE CHOCOLATE CAKE WAS TO DIE FOR. It was more like a fudgy brownie with sweetened condensed milk surrounding it and delicious ice cream. It looked small but it was very rich. Our servers were very cool. They spoke both English and Spanish. I would recommend going at night when all the candles are lit. A very romantic and beautiful atmosphere.

Google
Amaya has great food. It's some of the best you can get in the area but you need to know what to expect going in. I was the second person in the door and ordered a rice plate. They warned me and they were right, it takes 40-45 minutes to get a rice plate out. It was delicious, and I can appreciate the freshness, but that's a terribly long time to wait. Minus the wait I was asked half a dozen times if I wanted a drink which was maybe too attentive of the waitstaff. So it's a great choice for food, just know you might be waiting a bit.

Google
This spot has a great reputation, and the hype did not disappoint. Good mezcal selection with incredible food. Highly recommend the soft-shell crab. The broccoli and cauliflower were surprisingly good as well.

Google
Delicious, fresh and vibrant food in a colourful and laid back setting. Highly recommend the crispy soft shell crab and chorizo rice, big portions and very flavoursome. The rice dish (similar to a paella), takes a while to prepare, around 35-40min but the waiters are very clear on that when you order, so you might want to grab a few appetisers to keep you going. The prices are moderate, for the portion size and being CDMX I would say it's pretty fair. We did reserve a table online but the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived probably due to the current peak season having just ended but would recommend booking regardless.

Google
Not bad of a location for vegetarian food as there are a few options. They are probably known for their alcohol selection since they have a nice bar. Staff knows English so that was really helpful. Food selection seems really healthy, but with small portion sizes. In terms of food, we ordered the following: 1. Baked sweet potato, coastal chile tahini and hard-boiled egg 2. Roasted vegetables and poached egg (1) was actually quite good. Crunchy, sweet, but a small portion size. I'd order this again if I were to return. (2) simple, roasted veggies with a poached egg in the middle. small portion size again. Service: The staff was very kind and helped us with choosing our options. He iterated multiple times to make sure that we were okay with the ingredients. Service alone deserves a star. Again, probably a good place for the bar, but food wise might be limited for vegetarians.

Google
The venue is nice, old fashioned. Service was great. I was honestly expecting more about the food as this place was at “Somebody Feed Phil” but I was kind of disappointed. The fish tostadas were ok, the corn with goat cheese and broccoli was probably the most tasty dish I tried. The fish with broccoli pure and sprouts was not very good, they added some bacon powder on top and it was a bad idea. The crumble with strawberries and hoja santa ice cream was original but nothing too exciting. Also, drinks sounded more excited than they tasted. Overall, an ok modern Mexican restaurant in Mexico City however is too far and not worth the trip if you’re not in the Reforma downtown area.

Google
Absolut Great Food. New tastes and combinations, modern Mexican cuisine, absolute recommendable. BUT one star less, because we ordered and paid two different sorts of papadiablo mezcal, however the waiters brought us both times the same, which we realised with our photos back in our home. Sad to be treated as the tourists, when the food was so great…

Yelp
I'm so sad they're closed. The service, the food. So good. The decor and outdoor seating is nice. Only issue I have is bugs outdoors. The whole chicken takes longer time to get but it it is cooked amazing. Taste sooo light and fresh.

Yelp
Great experience at Amaya last night! A couple of friends recommended we come here while in CDMX, so we went for my boo's birthday. We started with the soft shell crabs and ceviche. I loved the ceviche-the tortilla at the bottom gave it a nice crunch and the spice level added an unexpected kick, which we liked. We shared the pan-roasted sea bass and the steak. The steak was outstanding - the cut and the grilling. If you don't like it too rare though, you might want to specify that to the waiter. The side potatoes were delicious, too! We ended with the berliners which were okay.I really wanted to try their profiterol, but I think I missed it on the menu and we had the berliners instead. I am going back again for their cocktails. The mezcal drinks were on point! We tried two different cocktails, and both highlighted different aspects of the types of mezcal. The tequila cocktail was also divine. I was so into the cocktails that I forgot to taste their natural wines, which were highly recommended. We'll be back again to try them, for sure. Finally, our waiter was great! He was fun and informative, helping us with the cocktail selection and suggesting certain dishes off the menu. He even sang happy birthday with me to my fiancée :)

Yelp
Came here based on watching "Somebody Feed Phil" and therefore had high expectations. Overall the service and food was pretty good especially the ceviche tostada and the fried cauliflower and broccoli was delicious. However the homemade pasta with shrimp, soft shell crab, and squid entree we ordered did not come with any crab or squid. It only had shrimp which was super disappointing since it wasn't as listed on the menu. Taste wise it was just an okay dish, tasting more of Asian lo mein than Italian pasta.

Yelp
WOW Typical Mexico ... they can make even the most simplest thing amazing ! Sat el fresco in a quaint side street setting , steps from the frenetic Paseo Reforma. Service was totally attentive and English spoken with no problem. I had the pork sausage & potato salad - very tasty ! And the cinnamon cake for dessert - WOW! Extraordinary But the best part of it all was my tab Only $45 usd for all of it including 2 great glasses of wine . Highly recommend.

Yelp
Try the beef ragú. It is amazing and special. Wasn't too excited for the chicken was a tad dry, but the ragú was the star of the show.
google avatar

Yelp
Ceviche tostadas were great. We had braised lamb and fish with huitlacoche broth both main courses were top notch. Service was fantastic. One of the best meals we had in CDMX, which is saying something.

Fran S.

Yelp
Fantastic. We had the butternut squash soup with chunks of squash included. Seasoned with fennel and other spices. Delicious. Next we had the soft shell crab with beef tratar. The crab was deep fried perfectly and the tartar compliments it perfectly. Next we had the homemade fettuccine with beef ragú. The fettuccine was smothered in a braised beef sauce. Lastly and the best was the pannacotta Perfectly set with an amazing sherbet type of topping.

Yelp
Great small plates to share. Soft shell crab was amazing. Fun atmosphere. Very attentive staff but very busy

Yelp
The food here is very delicious and made a lasting impression. Even the simplest of dishes seems to be elevated or edited in some small way to become gourmet excellence. You can enjoy good cuisine in a pretty casual yet trendy environment. I got the pesto pasta and I was not disappointed. It was very filling and had great, fresh flavor. Plus, with a side of fresh made bread to soak up the leftover pesto- you can't beat it! They offer indoor seating or a few outdoor tables on the street, which can get a little loud with the traffic driving by. But overall, it was a wonderful experience and not too expensive considering how full I was afterwards. If you even want to just come here for some drinks with friends, they have a beautiful bar area and an extensive drinks menu. Loved the neighborhood, loved the vibes, 10/10 would visit again! :)

Yelp
Americans beware of the bait and switch at this place. Don't bother making a reservation at this overly hyped restaurant featured on Netflix's "somebody feed Phil" as the manager randomly discriminates and decides if you get a table in the restaurant or sit in the bar once you arrive. This is unfortunate as the staff seems to work hard and they definitely deserve better. The manager needs to be replaced for her repulsive behavior. Way better options in cdmx!
google avatar

Sheridan S.

Yelp
Ohhhh man!!! Muy delicioso!! We just saw this on Somebody Feed Phil and had to come. We came and it was so calm and not too crowded. Our host was one of the best I've met anywhere. Very knowledgeable of the food and spoke great English in addition to Spanish. We had the amazing soft shell crab and the braised lamb. Please please please try these dishes if you're in the area. This is one for the books. An absolute must for Mexico City.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved the authenticity of Amaya - food, atmosphere, and staff. Menu is traditional true Mexican cuisine and the flavors are amazing. I'll definitely return.
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Came here for dinner at the bar and man the food is good. Ordered a soft shell crab along with sausage and potato salad. My friend got the gnocchi which was super good too. All of the food tasted fresh and can't say that one of the dishes was a clear winner for favorite that night. They each had something we liked. I'd make reservations if you can unless you don't mind chancing it with bar seating.

Yelp
Another AMAZING local real Mexican restaurant. We made reservations and on a cold Monday night the place was packed. That is such a good sign. WE sat by the giant window and it was full of smilles and laughter. So we ordered way too much but had to have it all. The soft sHell ctabs were Perfect and maybe rice flour cooked in ? It was crispy . Then the fish tostada again two of them so good. Thenn toasted corn ! Sooooo good and flavorful and none of it was insane Spicey. Roasted chicken and cooked wiith small potatoes and carrots and a light brown gravy. Finally desert Pistachio strawberry crumble aooooo good. A special Shout out to IVAN our server he made all the specIal requests happen and was so friendly and made the best reccomondations.
google avatar

Laura D.

Yelp
As we ate at the restaurant I wondered how many people were here because of Somebody Feed Phil. The restaurant is small and cozy with a good atmosphere. We really enjoyed our meal here! I was so excited for the soft shell crab (recommend in the show and by reviews) and it was pretty good but didn't blow my mind. The menu is small and refined with a wide variety of options. Both main courses were good but the show stopper was dessert. Pistachio crumble, strawberries and a peppery-mint ice cream. It was one of the best desserts of my life. Incredible!
google avatar

Dalilah M.

Yelp
5 Stars for the food. It was fantastic but 2 stars for the glasses of wine. They tasted pretty terrible and there was no menu for a glass of wine which came out to $10 each. Maybe a cocktail would have been better.
google avatar

Artemisa Yasmin L.

Yelp
Great place has a good vibe, attentive personnel On the pricey side, food is original & tasty
google avatar

Sandy N.

Yelp
Was here tonight after doing some research. Food to good. Cocktails are excellent. There is a fine line between good tasting cocktails and a strong enough drink. They did a fine job walking that fine line. Strong drinks that taste great. Didn't try the wine so next time.

Nicole H.

Yelp
Gluten-free friendly. The food was not as good as I had hoped. The salad had just a plain olive oil dressing, the ceviche with carrots was nothing out of the normal, and we ended with the fish which was cooked well but lacked flavor. Overall it's a fine meal but felt like something I make at home.
google avatar

Jacklyn G.

Yelp
Very small menu but everything here is absolutely well thought out and delicious which I'd choose any day over an extensively complex menu. I'm still daydreaming about the soft shelled crab.
google avatar

Olivia D.

Yelp
The best place I ate at in Mexico City. The food was unbelievable. My favorite of the items we ordered was the corn salad. It was warm and filling. It had the best flavor. The restaurant was decorated beautifully and surprisingly empty! The service was amazing and I can't wait for my next visit to Mexico so I can come back here.
google avatar

Chang L.

Yelp
Food here was superb with excellent service. Imagine the best quality innovative gourmet food you can find in San Francisco or New York but with half the prices. We got the soft shell crab, totoada, fish tostadas, corn and the shrimp dish, and everything was excellent. I'd say the fried soft shell crab was a highlight. Cocktail drinks were fabulous especially the two mezcal ones. Highly recommend this place.

Geoff D.

Yelp
I went twice to Amaya. The first time I went I didn't have a reservation but they found me a seat and I really enjoyed my meal (roast chicken) and drinks (Si nos dejan). I returned my last night in town and enjoyed it again. Service was great and very friendly and I had great meal. If you're staying on or near Reforma, I would highly recommend it.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
On my short President's day trip here this was an absolute gem for the taste buds. Bordering on the finer side of dining, the dishes here aim for quality over quantity... which is a shame when it came to the ceviche appetizers. At first I was skeptical about it being served on a tostada chip but after the first bite I could have easily just ordered a couple more of these and called it a day. It's not cheap, but the food is certainly worth every dollar here. I forgot the name of the cocktail but there is one with cucumber and ancho reyes that you absolutely have to try!
google avatar

Julian O.

Yelp
First rate in each and every way. Exquisite food beautifully prepared with the freshest ingredients. The service is top notch. I mean TOP NOTCH. We have traveled to more than 60 countries and lived in 4 continents and I must tell you to try this incredible restaurant.

Scott J.

Yelp
We loved it. Even the kids burgers were great! Drinks good too. Lamb and chicken were good too.
google avatar

Tara C.

Yelp
Head and shoulders above anything else we found in the area. Make a reservation because it's a small and deservedly popular restaurant. We ordered a lot of dishes to share between four of us and we wouldn't have eliminated any of them. Here's the list: Tuna ceviche Lamb pita Sauté corn with goat cheese Octopus Sea bass Soft shell crab My descriptions are sadly scant re: all the rich details, but trust me, each one was spectacular.
google avatar

Priscila A.

Yelp
Highly recommend! All the wine is handpicked from all natural wineries from around the world. The best food I've had in Mexico City, thus far! I had the black rice & calamari dish while my partner enjoyed the grilled sea bass. Staff was welcoming and friendly.
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
Came here in our travels to Mexico and was not disappointed. The food was top notch and the prices very reasonable/inexpensive by US standards. One drink, two sodas, Salad, Gnocchi, soft shell crab, ceviche and a dessert were $50 with tip. Dress is nice casual. It can get a little warm in the back so ask to sit in the front. Overall very happy with the service and experience.
google avatar

Drew S.

Yelp
was here about a year ago. really spectacular. as good as it gets at this price point. an extremely fine attention to detail. spent about $15-$20 USD per person on food for really high-quality comida. my friends have been recently and loved it as well. can't wait to return the next time that I'm in Mexico City. this place would be WAY more popular if it were in Condesa, Roma, or Polanco; and perhaps far more expensive. I rarely spend time in Juarez, so it was cool to visit a different neighborhood.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
My favorite place we ate at in Mexico City. The food was top notch. Went here on a Sunday for lunch, was completely empty. Started to fill up after a while. Ordered the espresso martini, it was delicious. Started off with the ceviche and soft shell crab. Ceviche was some of the best that I've ever had. Came with a fried fish which was fantastic. Soft shell crab had good flavor with a bit of a sweet sauce, was a bit squishy consistency. But otherwise tasty. Also had he warm mushroom salad, which was very tasty. Mushrooms were warm and kale was almost crispy and fried. Last, we split the gnocchi. Odd to order gnocchi in Mexico City, but it was great. Cheesy and it was pan fried so a crunchy glazed bottom. 5 stars for this place. Also decor and cleanliness were excellent.
google avatar

Maor R.

Yelp
Considering the ratings, Amaya just didn't live up. For a "wine bar" having only 3 red options by the glass and all served quite warm meant I was already off to a frustrating start. The restaurant is cozy and inviting. The bartender was very polite and accommodating. I appreciate the smaller menu size too. Starting off on a very strong note, the soft shell crab appetizer was amazing. Seriously amazing. It was so good I was excited to try more! But then it happened, the big let down the lamb sausage sandwhich was dry! Not juicy as a sausage should be, but completely dry and overspiced. The radish salad it was served with added nothing. It's only dressing was vinegar, nothing else. No full grain mustard or sauce, etc. So I moved on to the meat dumplings. I LOVE dumplings so I was excited but it was just not on point. The flavors were muddled and bland without any prominent flavors just like a bit of mush in beefy gravy. There's always a chance there are far better items available but that's what I tried. And based on my meal, I'd only go back for the soft shell crab and I'd definitely bring my own red wine to go with it.

Philippe C.

Yelp
Great food and great service....the restaurant is well designed with indoor and outdoor dining...definitely a great place to come back to....Jorge was our server and he did a beautiful job helping us navigate the menu. We also had wine from Baja and it was very pleasant.
google avatar

Lindsay M.

Yelp
I'll start off by saying the food here was amazing! I had the roasted cauliflower, avocado hummus and Roma tomatoes as well as the grilled lettuce, eggplant hummus and idiazabal cheese. They were both amazing, but the cheese in the grilled eggplant hummus was probably the best cheese I've ever tried. It seems that most of their dishes are small plates which I love, so you might want to order two different things. If you have the choice, sit in the front dining room! We sat in the back which had a boring atmosphere and almost seemed like a different restaurant compared to the front. Overall great place!
google avatar

Marta N.

Yelp
We had a 7:45PM reservation for 2 on a Saturday night and were very excited for it. The front room seemed crowded and upbeat but we were taken to the back room where we were basically by ourselves for most of our meal. We had a delicious tomato, beets and burratta salad to start, so yummy! We next had the soft shell crab tostada and to be honest I was hoping for more flavor, it was just a bit bland. We then had the gnocchi that was good but it came with A LOT of kale and in the words of my friend, it "tasted healthy." Last was the homemade sausage with potato salad, this was fine but I was so full at this point that I don't think I enjoyed it quite as much. The service was great even though we were in the back room by ourselves they were very attentive and nice. We had really great cocktails and the waiter even recommended another bar for a nightcap.
google avatar

Heena P.

Yelp
After an exhausting and uncomfortable flight (thanks United), we decided to stay close to our hotel and go to Amaya. Despite the language barriers, the staff was super friendly, attentive, and made an effort to be accommodating to our dietary restrictions. The place had a great selection of wines and the food was delicious, especially the melt in your mouth gnocchi. The panna cotta and profiteroles looked beautiful and tasted great. Everything about this place was absolutely wonderful and we would definitely come back the next time we're in town.
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
Great food, very attentive service. Would definitely back without hesitation. Don't forget to make a reservation, the place fills up quickly!
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly staff and solid food. Frankly we chose this because it was near our hotel and our first night in-country, but you know what? It's great. Warm hipstery and totally fine helping us gringos. Would be happy to return.
google avatar

Ato B.

Yelp
Delicious food, excellent wines. The simplicity and very nice balance of ingredients is the best part of this restaurant. The wine list is swayed towards natural wines, but the ones that I tried were all excellent. Service is outstanding.

Yelp
Versión en español a continuación. ... Amazing! We went here on a Thursday evening for a birthday dinner and had no problem making a reservation by phone the day before. The mojito was excellent. The sangria was creative -- served as a color-contrast mixed drink -- and delicious. We saw Amaya on the Mexico City episode of Somebody Feed Phil and we're determined to try the soft-shell crab that Phil had; it was amazing -- lightly breaded with a rich, mildly spicy seasoning! We enjoyed a side dish of roasted corn cut from the cob (basically an elote salad, though not called that on the menu). Our server, Omar, had good recommendations and was very attentive, keeping our bread basket and our glasses of ice water (both made with purified water) full. The maitre d' and sommelier also checked on us. Atmosphere was very good. Location is easy to find, convenient to subway, and walkable from nearby hotels and attractions. When the bill arrived, I was pleased to see that it was less than half what I'd expect to pay in the US. I would definitely go again! ...

Yelp
Food was really good at this place. The menu had a great variety of options for foodies, vegetarians and those seeking something unique. I had this amazing artichoke and eggplant soup, cocktails, this lettuce hummus dish, pesto cheese dish with greens and a beef tartare. (I shared all of this!) The tartare was not that great. It had sardines in it that made it too salty. However, the desserts were oh so yummy! Will definitely head back next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
We visited last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Everything was great except for the fried fish had a bit of a fishy taste (thus the 4-star rating). The crab was absolutely awesome and very tasty. Tostadas, and drinks were also very great. The service was very attentive and they had a good selection of Mexican craft beer. Will go back!
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
After two and a half weeks of average food I had a great dinner experience at Amaya. I'm mostly vegetarian and the offerings were the best in CDMX so far. The ambiance was also pleasant, not to bright (a usual complaint of restaurants in the area).
google avatar

Gregory S.

Yelp
An eating destination just the bread alone is worth the trip. Get the soft shell crab it's excellent. You will be happy with everything they have here.

Hank W.

Yelp
The best contemporary Mexican food ever!!!!!!! Great ambiance and service. But most of all, amazing good and wine!!!!!
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
The decor and service were excellent. The cocktails are food were even better. The chef at a cooking school recommended Amaya and I'm so glad he did. Eat there!
google avatar

Mariya S.

Yelp
Not sure why the high ratings... the food was pretty bland, soft shell crab had a fishy taste (may have been responsible for getting us sick, but can't say for sure), everything else was overpriced for what it was. Skip and go to Condesa for better food with same prices. Only pro is the drinks were pretty good, oh and the service is great, the waiters are really attentive
