The Best Willamette Valley Wine Tastings and Wineries | Eater Portland

"This newer winery produced its first vintage in 2021, and its Newberg tasting room made its debut in summer 2024. You won’t find unusual varietals here — the winery mostly sticks to pinot noir and chardonnay — but the wines are created with elegance, balance, and ageability in mind. The tasting room features Mount Hood views, as well as a restorative Japanese garden thanks to the landscape design by Hoichi Kurisu, who has had a hand in shaping Japanese gardens all over the country, including the Portland Japanese Garden. Taste a flight of five wines, or book a food and wine pairing experience. Visits are by appointment only, Thursday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m." - Katherine Chew Hamilton

From the moment we arrived, Ambar Estate delivered nothing short of excellence. Nestled in a breathtaking setting, the panoramic views of the vineyard are simply stunning — a postcard-perfect backdrop that sets the tone for an extraordinary visit. The interior is equally exquisite. Every detail, from the architecture to the décor exhibits understated elegance. It’s the kind of space that immediately makes you feel relaxed, welcomed, and inspired to savor every moment. And oh, the food — absolutely divine. Each dish was not only delicious and fresh, but plated with such artistry it felt almost too beautiful to eat (almost!). The seasonal ingredients and thoughtful pairings made the entire meal a standout. Of course, the wine is the heart of the experience, and it did not disappoint. Every pour was exceptional — full of character, expertly balanced, and a true testament to the passion behind their craft. My favorites were the rosé and 2022 Pinot Noir, but no matter if you're a seasoned enthusiast or just starting to explore, you’ll find something to fall in love with here. Also, I’d be remiss if I failed to mention the impeccable service. Morgan was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely attentive. Her enthusiasm for the wine and the story behind the winery added so much depth to the experience.

My partner and I had an incredible experience at Ambar this last weekend. The property is absolutely knock your socks off gorgeous and we love the commitment to regenerative farming! We had a fantastic pairing experience with Alex who was super personable and knowledgeable and every one of chef Heidi’s creations were absolutely phenomenal as well. 10/10 would definitely recommend giving this spot a visit if you’re in the area or even if you’re not. I signed up for the wine club as an excuse to visit again. :)

One of our favorite visits in Willamette Valley (out of 9 wineries we visited) — and this is also coming from someone who’s lived near Napa and traveled to wineries all over the world. It’s an absolutely gorgeous space, with a lovely patio and private tasting rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the vines. The paired lunch tasting we did was phenomenal. I’d say the chef is James Beard level in her creativity, thoughtfulness of pairing, and use of local seasonal ingredients. Would 100% recommend and come back!

The Wine & Food Pairing Experience at Ambar Estate was unforgettable. Each course was beautifully curated, showcasing how the estate wines and food elevate one another. The setting felt intimate yet elevated, and the team guided us with warmth and knowledge. A perfect balance of flavor, story, and hospitality! I can’t wait to return.

I had the most incredible experience at Ambar Estate. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. They’re genuinely friendly, attentive, and happy to answer every question we had. You can tell they truly care about creating a memorable visit. The food and wine pairings were out of this world. Each bite and sip felt perfectly matched, and you could taste the thought and passion that went into it. It wasn’t just a tasting, it was an experience. On top of that, I love knowing they’re so committed to sustainability and doing things the right way. You really get the sense that everything here, from the vineyard to the hospitality, is done with heart. Can’t wait to go back!

My husband and I had an exceptional experience at Ambar estate and look forward to coming back next time we are in the Willamette Valley! From start to finish, all the employees were inviting, kind and very knowledgeable. The architecture and attention to detail in every room (even the bathroom!) was intentional and beautiful. We took a look into one of the tasting rooms and the vibe is cozy and inviting. It’s as if they are inviting you into their home, with a stunning view. My husband and I did a private food and wine pairing. I am currently pregnant and was over the moon to hear they were able to provide non alcoholic options. They created custom syrups to pair with the meals and I loved them all! Heidi is the chef and we have nothing but amazing things to say about her. She is truly gifted at what she does. Her creativity, design, and chef skills are one of a kind. I wouldn’t say my husband and I are super knowledgeable in the wine world and my husband noticed a drastic difference in the taste of the wines when he drank it before the food vs. with the food pairing. Ambar estate is newer to the valley and doing all the right things. We could not recommend them enough! Thank you for going above and beyond in your service!

Google
An all around incredible experience. The architecture and landscape design are beautiful. The views are gorgeous. The food was STELLAR - and very accommodating to food allergies. And the wine is superb. I’m eagerly awaiting a shipment of 2 cases to my home in Texas and I never buy wine. I highly recommend making a visit to Ambar. It was a truly next level experience.

Ambar is amazing! On our first visit, the staff went out of their way to make my friends and I have a wonderful time! We did not have a reservation, we had only stopped in to see what they were about on our way to lunch, they said they had a chef on staff and we are more than welcome to stay. So happy we did! The food was incredible. The wines were incredible. And the best part is the staff is amazing! A couple days later, I got a nice card thanking us for the visit. We’ve now been back several times, joined their club, and are looking forward to more visits in the future. They really know how to make their guests feel special.

Yelp
Been visiting many wineries over the decades here but this experience of tour plus brunch was a can't miss. Missed the harvest by a week but the walk, guide and fun walk thru the winery vineyard was fun and informative. The set brunch and wines as well as informative talk was excellent, high recommended on a good day!

Yelp
The exquisite small plates paired with the wines were a feast for the senses, with fresh produce from the gardens. They were both delicious and artistically crafted. We were charmed by the welcoming staff, as they described the dishes and wines. The delightful art added to the interior ambiance. Large windows made the picturesque views of the courtyard and vineyards part of the rooms.

Yelp
My experience at Ambar Estate was nothing short of perfect. They've done a fantastic job in choosing their staff, all thoughtful, kind, knowledgeable, and intelligent. The facility felt the influence of many detailed decisions, calm, comforting, with an understated elegance and charm. The wines met the expectations of the high bar set and will only get better with time. Kudos all around!
