Wood‑fired Mexican cooking, handmade tortillas, and the state’s most expansive agave collection animate this art‑deco showpiece. Frequently noted by travel editors, it captures the parallel cultures of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez.

A true gem inside the Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park! Ambar is a beautiful wood-fire Mexican cuisine restaurant that seamlessly blends culture, tradition, and fresh, authentic ingredients with modern presentation. Every dish we tried—from breakfast to dinner—was thoughtfully prepared, flavorful, and artfully presented. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do, which made the whole experience even more special. We were staying at the Plaza Hotel and ended up returning to Ambar multiple times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—it was that good! The atmosphere is inviting, the flavors are bold, and the attention to detail is outstanding. This restaurant was an absolute delight, and I would definitely come back again. Highly recommend!

Let me start by saying the service at Ambar was exceptional from the hostess to our server. Aileen offered drink and entree suggestions. She was friendly checking on us often. I ordered the tequila flight, she thoroughly explained the differences. We ordered Cesar salad to start. It was light with a creamy and unique Tijuana Cesar dressing. The 16 oz Ribeye had a tasty char. However, a salsa verde topping didn't add to the flavor of the steak. A highly anticipated rack of lamb left us disappointed. Again, the char on the lamb added more flavor than the marinade. The lamb was bland. Yet the mashed potatoes in both dishes were delightful. The digital menu is very innovative.

I really loved this place. It had a very mellow, upscale atmosphere and it’s right in the heart of downtown El Paso. It is right across from The Plaza Theatre and there’s lots of things to explore around, whether you’re a local or a tourist. The food was absolutely delicious, the drinks were great, and the service was outstanding. A must try!

Not sure why so man 1 stars. My own experience was with breakfast - after all, I was staying at the hotel. I found the Farm Omelet to be reasonably priced and very tasty - unusual for a hotel restaurant in my experience. Waitress was very helpful.

Great food in a very nice place! I was a bit hesitant at first — being Mexican, going to a restaurant that offers mexican inspired dishes? But that actually became the reason to give it a try. You can tell the cuisine is a mexican-american blend, which is precisely why it’s so enjoyable — whether you come from one side of the border or the other. Familiar dishes enriched with flavors born from a cultural mix. Special mention to the Tortilla and Chile Verde soups, as well as the ribeye...

From the moment I booked the dinner reservation for our anniversary, Tanya was very kind and accommodating. Once we arrived the next day, Tanya was there to greet us as well as the rest of the crew and they were all very kind and very attentive. Their food is delicious, my wife had a salmon dinner and I had the duck. Overall it was a beautiful anniversary dinner experience.

This restaurant is a gem in Downtown El Paso. Drinks are fabulous and unique tasting. Pre-dinner roasted artichoke plate was outstanding. Even my grandsons were eating them. I had ravioli stuffed with lamb brussia. Better than the one I had in Italy. My son’s porterhouse melted in our mouths. Tender and juicy. My son in law got extra carnitas to share but I noticed he didn’t share much. I don’t blame him. I could rave all day about the other plates but will close with my birthday surprise from Ambar. They brought me a dessert that was cover by a glass dome. But the waiter said, “no, it is a sugar dome. You break it open.” Amazing. The whole family loved the dessert. Restaurant ambience is elegant and created fond memories I’m going back soon.

I went with my coworkers, and I have to say—the service was excellent, and the architecture of the building truly transports you. It feels like you’re dining in Mexico or some other exotic destination. However, I wouldn’t recommend the food. It was too sweet for my taste—even the enchiladas. It doesn’t quite capture the authentic flavor of real Mexican cuisine.
