Amberley Castle- A Relais & Chateaux Hotel, a Design Boutique Hotel Amberley, United Kingdom

"This 900-year-old West Sussex castle offers luxury accommodations within medieval walls. Its stunning gardens are home to an 18-hole putting course and 2 lakes. There is free private parking on site, and Amberley Rail Station is a 10-minute walk away. Amberley Castle has been awarded 4 AA Red Stars and 3 AA Rosettes for its fantastic food. You can dine in the 12th-century Queen’s Room with its vaulted ceiling, or the Great Room, with oak flooring, a tapestry, and suits of armor. The elegant bedrooms are furnished with antiques and fine fabrics, and biscuits will be waiting for you on arrival. Each room also comes with fluffy bathrobes, slippers, a flat-screen TV, and facilities for making tea and coffee. Amberley Castle is completely enclosed by its old wall, and retains a portcullis that gets lowered at night. You can climb the ramparts for stunning views, play tennis on site, and there is also a croquet lawn to enjoy." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Amberley Castle (Amberley, West Sussex) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Some hotels throw the word “castle” around rather liberally, but Amberley Castle is the real deal — its fortifications date to the 14th century, and its guest list includes Henry VIII among its names. Today it’s a suitably luxurious family-owned hotel whose rooms and suites, whether inside or outside the castle walls, combine ancient stone and timber with contemporary interventions like Vispring beds, gas fireplaces, and lavish modern bathrooms. Dinner is served in two of the castle’s grandest rooms." - Tablet Hotels

Amberley Castle | Best places to stay in Arundel

"Staying at Amberley Castle is rather like appearing in your very own version of Shakespeare in Love. The castle dates back over 900 years and the beamed bedrooms, suits of armour in the dining room, gleaming wood panelling and ornate tapestries all create a feeling of stepping back in time. Happily, beneath the historic decor lies a smoothly-run 21st-century hotel, with Michelin-esque dining and staff who achieve that tricky mix of informality and absolute professionalism. It’s a wonderfully romantic retreat – surrounded by the tranquil landscapes of the Sussex South Downs – although worth bearing in mind there is no spa or pool. " - Matthew Roach

Afternoon tea for my wife’s 60th. Outstanding venue, atmosphere and service. The moment you arrive and walk through the castle entrance archway you know this is a special place. Tea in a dedicated room. Savoury delights followed by beautiful sweet treats presented in a traditional way. Our waiter was formal but informal, lovely guy. Tea is not rushed with plenty of time to mingle and chat and wander the castle, with suits of armour, axes, swords, ancient portraits with eyes that follow you… and stunning grounds. Cheap? No way. But you are paying for the experience, quality and service. It’s something very special, something you will remember. Hope to come back and celebrate again…

I didn't stay at the castle's hotel but we went for afternoon tea. The afternoon tea exceeded expectations and was great to have some savory items with the tea as well as just sandwiches & cakes. This also included a choice of 4 different hot chocolate's which was great! The staff were lovely and attentive. Really recommend.

Surprised my partner for his 40th Birthday. The grounds and castle itself were magical. Tranquil and intimate it felt as though we had the place to ourselves and the staff were attentive and made us feel at ease. Our package included a 5 course dinner which was sensational -would highly recommend. We added the wine pairing option which was also stand out. Thankyou for a wonderful stay.

A beautiful castle and location. Currently it is covered in scaffolding though while being restored. Fabulous staff always make you feel very welcome and go above and beyond. The afternoon tea is superb - the best we've had in West Sussex!

A stunning setting with outstanding historical features throughout. Some lack-lustre service and some building issues impacted on my overall impressions here however. |This is clearly a very historical property with almost certainly Grade I listed status. My bedroom did have gaps around the window frames however and there were some signs of damp and mould. |I had the biggest modern hotel bathroom I’ve ever seen. |Waiter spilt some gravy across the table which he was clearly really embarrassed about and he replaced the wine. |Great room service breakfast.

Beautiful stay at Amberley Castle Hotel, real historic gem of a place. |Sat in the garden for Breakfast, never got a picture of my full English as I tucked in to it too quickly. But all locally sourced ingredients. Big shout out to Jo, Harry & Diana who made our stay and took care of us so well. We will be back…
