Yelp
Date night, made reservations. (Wasn't necessary)
Eating here reminded me of the movie "Drive" starring Ryan Gosling. It had a lot of factors and things that are good, and things that should work, but at the end, I was just like, "Ah, meh. Ok. Weird." Three and a half solid stars, leaning to four.
The service was good, but odd. Lots of random people coming by and hovering nearby to clean or fill or remove or whatever. Better than bad service, just didn't "work"here. The ambiance is very chill, the price/vibe of the place is not "upscale" or fine dining, so the five people coming by constantly was totally unnecessary and detracted from the overall chill vibe. Our main server Erica was pleasant and attentive.
The Calamari came out as our app and was a perfect sized portion with a citrus aioli sauce. Very very good. Not at all heavy with oil as sometimes typical of fried calamari. Crispy and perfect really.
Some super good focaccia bread was served, along with some other honey wheat bread. Focaccia bread was excellent!!!
The main entree's are just that, and are not served with any sides, but there are about 6 different sides to choose from. I ordered the Black Angus Ribeye steak, no sides, and my wife ordered the Spaghetti Pomodo, no sides as well, as we had the bread and calamari already. Sides run from $12-15.
I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out perfect. It tasted like a finer piece of beef, had minimal fat on it, and was flavored nicely with salt and pepper. My wife's spaghetti looked beautiful and fresh. Not drowning in sauce.
As usual I ordered a coffee at the end and we also shared a nice big piece of complimentary vanilla cake! The coffee was fresh and served in the French Press. (Which still had the plastic "Bodum" sticker on it. Straight tacky)
The final odd thing of the night was the bill. The bill is set at the table as typical, then I put my card in the little notebook thing and wait for it to be picked up. But the server just comes back with the table side credit card reader thing. And you just do it at the table. It just seemed weird and impractical for a place like this. I watched the guy at the table across from me swipe his card and struggle for it to go through for a good minute and a half. Somewhat deflating and odd if the table was mid conversation.
The food was solid. No complaints whatsoever about the food. The service was good, but odd.
If you just wandered in here for a date or a meal, and had no expectations, you would most likely not be disappointed.
There was just something "off" and "odd" about the experience that I can't pinpoint.
I was not disappointed, I just have no compelling reason to return.
All in all, good.
