V&I were visiting our daughter in Eugene and decided to try a long standing Italian restaurant downtown off Pearl (I guess we hadn’t had enough Italian food in the last month!). I honestly didn’t have huge expectations but we really liked it! The menu has many opportunities to experiment among traditional Italian dishes including pastas, meats and seafood. They also have their own pizza oven which I was not at all expecting.
Although we skipped the pizza (one item we did have plenty of and yet not enough in Italy), we did try a delicious pasta dish with tomatoes and sausage, one of their several salads to choose from and I ordered the lamb chops which was served over a potato casserole puree that reminded me of polenta which I’m a big fan of.
Portion sizes were large and I had five lamb chops on my plate. Although I prefer thicker chops, these were decent size and cooked perfectly. The pasta was home made and I learned later that our server gave the owner the recipe. We didn’t skip dessert and the options were excellent including tiramisu, ice creams and sorbets, panna cotta and crème brute - the standards. We tried two and left full and happy.
Speaking of service, it was terrific - interactive, attentive but overly so, efficient with table runners (side note here to better restaurants that don’t have them — GET THEM! They leverage your team and get food out to your clients so their food is hot), and provided suggestions based on what they have observed others enjoy most (sorry servers but your taste buds don’t speak to everyone so don’t speak for yourself).
The restaurant was bit dated like most everything else in Eugene (sorry Eugene but you have a bit of a road hard and put up wet vibe) but was clean, pretty busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
