The 38 Essential Santiago Restaurants

"When chef Carolina Bazán returned to Santiago after working in Gregory Marchand’s acclaimed Parisian bistro Frenchie, she created one of Santiago’s best French-inflected menus. The modern yet homey space, filled with plants, books, and knickknacks, is the perfect backdrop to Bazán’s market-driven riffs on French cuisine, which include pappardelle in lamb ragu and fall-off-the-bone duck confit with sweet potato puree. Ask for a table in the lush green courtyard under the crisscross of hanging bistro lights to get the full effect." - Bill Esparza, Hillary Eaton

"Make Your Mouth Water at Ambrosia Making its debut one the list of the 50 best restaurants in Latin America in 2015, young chef Carolina Bazan, takes the abundance of Chilean markets and sensational produce and delivers them with a creative, slightly French flare to diners. Originally located in downtown Santiago , the restaurant has relocated out to Las Condes to more spacious digs surrounded by their gorgeous garden. Standout dishes on the menu are Wagyu pot roast with creamy blue cheese mashed potatoes and they make a delicious homemade ketchup and Bearnaise sauce. Service can slow so go with patience--and a reservation. Pamplona 78, Las Condes +56 2 217 3075 Photo: Carolina Bazan (Ambrosia)"

How This Young, Fearlessly Out Chef Became the Star of Chilean Cuisine

"Ambrosia is a family-owned restaurant previously led by Carolina Bazán, where she gained fame and recognition. The restaurant is known for its formal setting and the use of her mother's recipes, which critics praised for their depth of flavor. Bazán's time at Ambrosia helped to establish her as one of Chile’s most visible chefs." - Natasha Nyanin

Google
A wonderful restaurant that is even featured on the Top 50 list for Santiago de Chile. The atmosphere is beautiful – it feels as if you are dining in a garden. The food is excellent, and you can tell it’s prepared with great attention to detail. I had a tartare variation and a nut-based dessert, both of which were outstanding. The service is also very good and attentive. A clear recommendation for anyone looking to enjoy an exceptional dining experience in Santiago.

The atmosphere is excellent, lots of green trees and flowers; The salad is amazing, but the fish is slightly salty and the truffle pasta does not have much truffle aroma. The cocktail is good The service is super slow: we had to wait for a least 30’ for the dishes to be served and another 30’ for the dessert to be ready

Google
Absolutely amazing experience! From walking into the restaraunt in a beautiful garden to eating outside under the string lights our experience was nothing but fantastic. The food was delicious! The owner stopped by our table which really gives that welcoming experience. I highly recommend this restaraunt! Don’t miss during your stay in Santiago

Hands down the best meal we had in Santiago. The restaurant is a hidden gem nestled in a residential area. The gardens and decor were beautiful and the service was some of the best. Our waitress had great recommendations and spoke great English. We had the locos and taquitos to start then each got the homemade pasta dishes (truffle and crab). The truffle was my favorite. We ended the meal with the lemon tart which was served in an original way and was absolutely delicious. This is a nicer restaurant definitely worthy of a visit for a special occasion.

Google
Great restaurant with with beautiful gardens and an innovative spin on local favorites. The fish dishes were super fresh and delicious. The local wine selection (by the bottle is excellent). Steak tartar was the star of the show. The pastas were great too. The tiradito and the locos (abalone) - superb. Their presentation is outstanding. A chocolate desert that is a must try.

Google
Highly overrated restaurant. We booked the table 1 month in advance and were seated in a random dark table. Despite the food is tasty, the poor service ruins the experience. Our initially ordered Piscos never arrived. The suggested wine was definitely too warm and for the water the lady needed a reminder. We saw some tables around us getting lots of attention and us being basically ignored. This is important to understand as we planned this dinner as farewell to Santiago and were intending to spend decent money on dining and drinking. In the end their negligence helped us saving some money - so thanks for this.

Google
Service was great, but the food didn’t meet expectations. We ordered the pasta with truffles and the fish with cauliflower purée, and both dishes were underwhelming.

Google
very soso restaurant, only two waiters there , Obviously, there are not enough people.service soso, and food can’t tell its very good but can’t tell its very bad . Not worth this price in Chile

Yelp
Ambrosia is a must stop if you are in Santiago and looking for creative dishes and Michelin-quality food with a laid-back vibe and a very nice, engaging and young staff. They change their menu according to the products in season and although it's french cuisine, you will always find a chilean touch to it. I order the truffle paste. It was out of this world. They have one type of fish a day. They purchase a couple of large ones and they make the ceviche and serve the mains from the same big fish. Fresh as fresh can be.. the desserts off the chart delicious. They have a 70% cocoa chocolate mousse that is heavenly. They have a lot of outdoor seating. They have parking out front with security. again this place is a hidden gem..

Yelp
Had a wonderful meal at this quaint restaurant - with great service as well. Everything we had was outstanding, including the wine. Be sure add this to the top of your list of restaurants to enjoy in Santiago

Yelp
I had the lomo vetado, and it was mediocre at best with minimal flavor. On the side, they included sweet potatoes...... In conclusion, not much imagination or festival of flavors. My wife had the pasta, and this dish deserves three stars. The best thing going for this restaurant is the rather pleasant ambiance. Let me be fair. The service was good.

Yelp
Hidden gem in the east side of town. Chic ambience and decor, excelent food and outrageous service.

Yelp
Two appetizers: foie gras, beef tartare. Two main plates: deer and beef flank. Dessert: chocolate mousse with passion fruit. All the plates were really good (not including the coffee).

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in a long time. We went here on a Friday evening and sat at the bar. We ordered soup (sweet potato), steak, and a pasta dish (with mushrooms). Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. We got to watch the chefs prepare all of the food. The way they plate is a work of art. Very fun atmosphere and an experience we will not forget.

Yelp
Reading a NY Times article that put Ambrosia in the same league as Boraga, we had high expectations coming in. Unfortunately, our dining experience was not exceptional. The food/drinks were only average. In terms of presentation, we were perplexed to find whole grain mustard on nearly every dish?!? We had the smoked salmon, the foie gras and fillet appetizer. All of them too saucy for our liking. For our main dishes, we ordered the waygu beef (which was way over cooked - shame for such a nice cut of meat) and the "seasonal" summer duck (which was a misnomer since it was incredibly heavy). As for the pre-dinner drink cocktails, we ordered a mojito and a caipirinha. They were strong on the liquor, but way too sugary. Might be good to try if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way to check it out.

Yelp
Everything was excellent from the greeting to the apps to the mains. We were greeted at the door by the chef's father who has much to be proud of as one of his daughters is the head chef and the other is the sommelier. The restaurant is on a residential street in a high end neighbourhood in a converted house. There are three rooms including a main dining room where we were seated, a bistro style area and a private dining room. The appetisers are for sharing and three of us were happy with the quality and quantity of the two we ordered. My wife had a pasta with duck ragu which she loved and my son and I had a pork tenderloin on a bed of black rice which was so tender it was magic.
