Legendary Mission Bar Amnesia Is Closing | Eater SF

"At the Metreon location of the Michelin-starred ramen chain, Chron food critic Soleil Ho was not impressed: she found seasoning issues across the items she sampled, described the toppings as “badly executed,” and said the potstickers lack enough filling and what filling there is tasted too bland — though she did note that the once-lengthy lines have evaporated." - Eve Batey

Google
Dolby viewing experience at the Metreon was awesome. After trying to find the best Dolby theater in the area, I can say that the experience at the Metreon was great. Parking was just to the south west (unfortunately $24 for just over 4 hours). Watched Avatar: Fire and Ash there and it was the experience I was looking for. I believe it’s the Dolby 2.81:1 screen which is a bit wider than normal, but was great for Avatar. The high frame rate (HFR) looked great and the surround sound was loud and immersive without blowing my ears out. Colors were incredibly vibrant and the experience felt unique compared to a regular theater. It was clean and the seats were comfortable and spacious. I wouldn’t change anything besides trying to get more central seats. Photo was taken in F13 and sound came a bit stronger from the left side at first, but eventually it became unnoticeable. Definitely would go back again if I wanted to show someone Avatar who appreciated a large, clear, vibrant, sharp, and comfortable viewing experience.

Having this theatre close enough to be my go to movie theater is a real treat. I joined the AMC A list in spring of 2025 and it has been wonderful. Huge IMAX screen and surround sound in the Dolby Theater make the move going experience a wonderful treat. I’ve seen some great movies so far this year and can’t wait to continue using the a list for future films.

Google
Great movie theater, big, clean and conveniently located. Service could be better, on the first floor, I couldn't find people to guide me where the theater is, the concession was empty, later the guy who checked my ticket didn't greet me or say anything, I have to ask where the auditorium is, I guess I'm used to a nice treatment from the AMC in Florida that I was expecting the same on this one.

Google
Great comfortable recliner chairs. Many options to choose from for eating and drinking. Machines are used to purchase tickets. Two take cash. Theater is on 2nd or 3rd floor.there is an elevator, stairs ,or an exclator to get to the upper floors. Very clean and classy. Many restroom stalls and sinks offered in the women's. Also water drinking fountains. Great sound and picture. About $20 a ticket.

Google
I wish I could have given this a higher review because I really loved the place, but I lost my AirPods 4s here about a month ago for the FNaF movie premiere and was under the impression that I truly lost them, I asked the staff if they seen anything and everyone said no. I went home crying in tears to only find out after putting them on lost mode, that someone from the staff has stolen my AirPods and is now roaming free with them. I’ve consistently tracked these location since then and I’m also 100% sure this is an employee that took them. If anyone knows this person then please contact me ASAP this severely ruined my time at this theater and I’m not sure if I can come back after that, I just can’t trust it.

Google
For the price, was a bit disappointed in the dolby cinema experience. The screen has some marks or ripples on it that you see in bright, lighter scenes, and it would take me out of it at times. There was also a piece of glossy tape on the screen in theatre 13, which was also pretty distracting. Works also be cool to see more vegan options at the food stall, especially vegan butter for the popcorn

Steven S.

Google
I think this amc is the best one for the imax experience since they have a full sized screen. The service has been pretty good but it can get busy since they seem understaffed for big movie releases. The theatres are mostly clean and the only issue I’ve had once, in my many visits, was two of the recliners were unplugged. I plugged them in and they worked fine. DO NOT ORDER SLIDERS. They’re pretty much frozen low quality sliders u can get at walmart for a dollar each. Nothing like the pictures.

Haorong L.

Google
Decent facility overall, but it really feels like being overcharged when you have to pay $15 just for parking for a 2-hour movie, with no validation or discount at all. That alone seriously hurts the overall experience.

Yelp
When it comes to big screens, epic sound, and pretty comfortable seating, it doesn't get much better than The Metreon AMC. While there are a number of sizes, from the massive top 3 in the country IMAX, to the epic Dolby theater, to a handful of 150 capacity, and then some smaller rooms, every screen at The Metreon is worth the price of admission. The laser picture quality and sound are top notch across the board and every room is immersive in its own way. We are so fortunate to have such a big centrally located cinema to showcase the mega blockbuster films alongside some smaller, smaller released Indies. My only issue with this theater, aside from the high concession prices (which is chain-wide) is the placement of the many excellent Coca Cola Freestyle machines. It feels odd to have the food and drink options before you scan your entry and makes getting a soda or popcorn refill a little more tedious than necessary.

Yelp
I visited AMC Metreon 16 on Saturday to watch Nuremberg, and once again it reminded me why this is one of my favorite theaters in San Francisco. This was my second time here -- the first being when I watched Godzilla Minus One -- and the experience was just as good. The theater is very clean and spacious, without that overcrowded feeling some movie theaters have. There are always staff walking around sweeping and keeping things tidy. They also have security present, which makes the whole place feel safe and well-managed. I grabbed a hot dog, some popcorn, and a soda before the show -- everything was fresh, hot, and exactly what you expect from a good movie snack lineup. Inside the auditorium, the recliner seats are extremely comfortable. You can lean back, lift your feet, and really settle in. The screen quality is excellent, with bright colors, sharp visuals, and powerful sound that fills the room without being overwhelming. Even when other people are in the theater, you barely hear anything except the movie itself -- no disturbances, no distractions. Ticket prices are reasonable: about $15.95 for the second showing of the day. If you go earlier, it's even cheaper. The self-serve kiosks at the entrance make buying tickets and choosing seats very easy. Overall, AMC Metreon 16 is a great spot for movie fans. Clean, comfortable, safe, and high-quality from start to finish. I'll definitely be back again for future films. Two thumbs up from me.

Yelp
Came to watch a new movie in IMAX. The movie theater is easy to find an access. It was busy as it was a movie premiere night. When you arrive on the movie theater level, you can buy food and drinks on the left side. Ticket check is found on the right side and they will direct you to your theater once checked. I don't often watch movies in IMAX but wow, what an incredible screen! The quality of the movie projection, and the audio was really top-notch. However, I will say the seats felt a bit outdated, especially when you're paying for IMAX. They looked and felt old, and became quite uncomfortable about halfway into the movie. Overall, still a great experience and still go to theater in the city.

Yelp
very triumphant 2025 film finale at AMC and also the indie film theater in SF. Probably in New York and Los Angeles...the other cities..national film community since 1990..

Yelp
Came to watch Chainsaw Man at the Dolby Cinema! Was amazing, makes me wanna watch a few more times! The visuals, sound, and experience of the Dolby Cinema is the way to watch anything big screen!!
google avatar

Stacie R.

Yelp
We came here to see Tron Aeries and it was in the supposed Imax theater. It was just so unimpressive I can't really say anything too great about it. The screen wasn't "that big" and the seating wasn't that comfortable. For all the features they have in theaters these days (the recliners, the spacious seats and aisles, heated seats), it just seemed like this theater was from back in the early 2000s and for the price of a ticket is kind of unbelievable. Especially since you also have to pay for parking! We came from the East Bay to watch a movie with our friend, and it just doesn't make any sense for us to come that long of a way to pay extra for what seems like a whole lot less. I will take my advanced theaters and seating with free parking in the East Bay Area, thank you!!
google avatar

Rich H.

Yelp
STILL the best place to see a blockbuster movie. I've noticed more & more movies are filming in IMAX. I'm always willing to pay a little extra to see it the way it was mean to be seen. This theater is the only one on the Bay Area that is true IMAX and worth every penny. Treat yourself to a spectacle that is a feast for the senses. WOOOH!!!!

Yelp
I have been coming to this theatre for movies for many years though, it has been awhile. I remember I would always get their chicken tenders with curly fries. Their prices have steadily increase for the meal but for years it was the most delicious thing they offered at the concession stand! I came back to get their chicken tenders with waffles fries (no longer curly fries, sadly). It did not live up to what it used to be almost a decade ago. Both the chicken and waffles fries were dry. Many pieces of the fries were overly crispy, hardened to the point of burnt. Not worth the $20 price tag anymore. I remember the theatre being clean, large, with nice views of Yerba Buena. Great place to watch a movie, take a stroll at the gardens with many eateries nearby!

Yelp
Watched Sinners 70 mm for the first time; while, having watched Sinners the film for the third time. Thank you AMC Metreon for being one of the few theaters to showcase the movie in 70mm, for I was not aware of its existence the first weekend I watched it. Glad this is not my regular theater since there's no recline or seat warmer. But I was there to completely analyze the movie in its originally intended medium, so I didn't mind! The reason for my review today is because I did not enjoy the distance I sat. I sat F26, which was a bit too close to the screen. I don't know why I figured F26 was a good distance. When I initially ordered my ticket, rows on rows were already filled. I thought my seat was a great deal, but my retrospection wishes I picked a further one. Maybe Row I would have been perfect. Nevertheless, my experience was still enjoyable. I love Sinners.

Yelp
I've been going here for over 20 years since before AMC took over the Metreon. Watched a ton of free movie screenings here and have a lot of awesome movie watching experiences. The IMAX screen here is unparalleled. Especially for Sinners, no regrets. I wish I had watched Interstellar on this screen. Highly highly recommend.
google avatar

Vinkin Ken T.

Yelp
The theater seats have seen better days. They still recline though so it makes the movie experience a bit better. They still offer 1 free refill on popcorn if you order a large. They will give you a bucket of popcorn and a box which you can ask to refill now or later. I like to bring a super jumbo ziplock bag to take home leftovers. It's basically a 2 for 1 deal since between my partner and I, we can only finish 1. Their online pick up area isn't really monitored, you could basically take anyone's order.... But you shouldn't.
google avatar

Trevor B.

Yelp
The reclining chairs are comfortable. If you join AMC stubs its definitely worth it if you like movies. Watch 3 a week, the rewards are nice for snacks or drinks. I come to this theatre pretty often. You can grab food before or after a movie inside the food court below the theatre.

Pablo F.

Yelp
I frequent this AMC all the time, due to it being close to my work and me enjoying movies, but it always seems to be dirty and there is always multiple people in front to receive the order, but I'm guessing they lack people in the back to prepare the orders as it always takes way too long. Even with mobile orders they always never have it ready on time. The lady at the ticket scanning area has an attitude, not seeming to want to help anyone just replying with one word "8" or "16". Overall the location and amenities are nice but could overall improve, especially when tickets and food is expensive.

Michael M.

Yelp
AMC A List plan is a rip off. I can't even find 2 movies I want to see per week. Forget about 4.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here to watch the new F1 IMAX movie, and wow, what an experience! I haven't been in an actual IMAX theater in over a decade, and this location truly delivered. Unlike some places that advertise IMAX but don't have the real deal, AMC Metreon has a true IMAX screen. Massive, probably twice the size (or more) of your average movie screen. The theater itself is huge and impressive. We sat in Row D, which was a bit too close for such a large screen. Next time I'd go a few rows back at least for a better viewing angle. The seats are plush rocker chairs, which were comfortable, though I do wish they had full recliners like you find in some other newer theaters. Concessions were good but pricey. Popcorn here is definitely more expensive than Cinemark. That said, if you're an AMC Insider or A List member, you can score a free large popcorn and fountain drink upgrade, which is a nice perk. I also liked that you can control how much butter you want. They've got self serve butter and seasoning. Bonus points for the wide selection of ICEE flavors. The biggest downside is the parking. It's either garage or street parking, and I'm not sure if they offer validation. IMAX tickets were $28. Kind of pricey but worth it if it's a great movie. Bonus tip: Costco currently sells an AMC gift card of $20 and two black tickets for $40 total. Pretty good deal! Basically were able to get these tickets for $20.

Yelp
This theater could really improve... our first time watching IMAX for the early screening Crunchyroll of Demon Slayer Infinity Castle. 9/9/2025. Second time in this cinema. As we walked inside the auditorium 16 we are amazed by how big the screen was. We got Row L seats (specifically L13 and L14) and they are eye level to the screen. No straining to the neck. Huge picture and impressive sound. But I have to complain that stairs did not include letters and people have to shout their row so people can find their right seats, and I thought that was pretty helpful. The seats were run down and some ripped... before coming, I was so hyped about this theater being the second largest true IMAX in the country second to Lincoln in NY. I hope they can improve chairs and especially finding your Row seats! so disappointing but it's worth the price, we loved the movie.

Patrick C.

Yelp
This place used to be a reliable standby. Now no one working here GAF. Huge lines for cold popcorn. Just general shabbiness everywhere. Tickets are $$$. Makes me sad to say but no wonder theaters are dying.

Michel D.

Yelp
Last time when I came to a movie the security guy stayed inside the movie making some noises with his talking phone ; It was very weird . He was going in and out during all the movie . First time since that I go to the movie theater that I saw that . Why?
google avatar

Maruko X.

Yelp
The AMC theater is located on the third floor of Metreon mall. It has plenty show rooms and a signature Dolby recliner one, which is very spacious, however so lack of maintenance, more than half of seats in the same row didn't work.

Javy N.

Yelp
COULDN'T WATCH a movie the last day in theaters i planned for because private individuals rented out the theater for a week no notice ahead of time no nothing I hate corporations with a passion.

Yelp
Recently went here to see Wicked and it was very good. Great location as well since you can meet up with your friends and hang out before and after. Nice experience as they had a nice system for ordering food in the front and the chairs were nice and comfy. We parked nearby in the San Mateo public parking.

Yelp
I was on an edible and decided to go to the Metreon because I hadn't been since I lived in San Francisco 2003 to be exact. I bought a ticket to Megan 2.0 for 1100 pm and I wanted snacks but the line was too long . Anyway I loved the theater and the screen was huge and they have this thing called laser imaging for the movie and it is crystal clear. I thought about all the movies I had seen here and enjoyed my little nostalgia moment I will be back soon.
google avatar

Jesse R.

Yelp
Huge screens are the IMAX. Concessions were quick and friendly. Tickets were a bit steep, but that is normal nowadays. The theater was clean and the seats were comfy.
google avatar

Yelp
AMC metreon continues to discriminate against the deaf and hard of hearing by advertising closed captioning but providing no service. 8 out of 10 times a deaf person attempt to watch a movie the closed captioning system doesn't work.

Shawnee J.

Yelp
Love all the walk up stations to get your tickets instead of waiting for one person to scan tickets especially on busy days. The bathrooms and the theater always seem clean even though I know it's super hard to keep those suckers clean and not feel like the floors are sticky in the theaters. Going to the movie in the city is an entire production so the fact that I have no issues when I actually get there is fantastic. I enjoy the IMAX experience. We always pick this location. Parking is wonderful. It is right across the street. The parking garage does not get validation at the AMC but overall I have no issues. We just saw Sinners there and recently saw Dune2. Can't wait to see my next flick there.

Yelp
Hello, welcome to my review! Great seating and great cleaning. I highly recommend. The views from outside and inside is great. The park behind is great spot to hang before or after movies. Please be aware of the area as it is downtown SF. Thank you

Yelp
I love the spaciousness of this theater and the options. The seats are pretty comfortable and spacious though it is fair to say it is slightly in need of a little upgrade (seats creak a bit and carpet is very old). But, if you are in the area or do. It mind having to pay for parking, it's a good option to see a movie. Soda dispenser give lots of options.

Yelp
I went to this theater last month with my cousin, and I was so excited since this was my first time experiencing an IMAX 70mm screen! Even Christopher Nolan recommended watching 'Oppenheimer' on this screen, but we actually came here to watch an advanced screening of 'A Haunting in Venice'. We were extremely impressed with this screening as they put all of the stops by hiring individuals dressed up in the theme and providing us with some fun props. The only seats available for the both of us were right in the front row. I was nervous as I usually get a headache if I sit too close to a big screen, but I had no headaches and was able to fully enjoy the movie. The screen truly is something to behold in person. You should definitely plan to watch a movie at this theater to experience it!

Yelp
Had the most depressing theater experience today. I am appalled that AMC Metreon 16 would sell tickets to a movie in a theater where one or more speakers don't work to the point you are missing actual dialogue.... With the availability of movies on streaming services (plus subtitles are a godsend) I rarely ever go to the actual movie theaters anymore. Made an exception to go see Dune 2 in theaters today and was so disappointed. Upon entering the theater it feels cold and dead. There is only one employee - the one that scans your ticket to enter. All ticket purchasing is done with kiosks and there is just a row of Coca Cola machines you walk up to get your drinks. I didn't really look for the food/snacks as I ate before but there wasn't even the nostalgic smell of popcorn to lure me in... The WORST PART is that there seemed to be a sound issue in theater 14. I first noticed it as some of the louder action scenes would start loud and then suddenly the left side would go a little quiet while the action was still happening. I knew something was wrong when I noticed we were legit missing DIALOGUE. The actors' mouths were moving but there was no dialogue coming out of the speakers. It seems that only a few were broken so it's not like the sound completely cut out - just certain parts. But the whole point of going to a movie theater is to see the movie with the best audio visual experience so this was crazy to me!!! I didn't want to leave the movie to tell staff so decided to just try to let an employee know after I got out of the movie because surely they must not know..... after standing around guest services for 5-10min and wondering if any human actually worked there I finally found an employee and let him know. He simply said "oh yeah we know there's been a problem. They're coming to fix it next week." WHAT. The fact that they knew of this issue and still decided to sell tickets to showings in this specific theater blows my mind. Needless to say, I will not be coming back to this theater or really probably any movie theater again soon. I'll just wait for the movies to arrive on my streaming services and enjoy at home with my FUNCTIONAL home audio system and subtitles
google avatar

Yelp
We had tickets for the movie on Sunday at 11 am but could not get in the theater until 11am, the mall doors don't open until 11, canceled the tickets. This makes no sense!
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Went here to watch Dune part two and also Aquaman the lost Kingdom the people who check in your tickets are so reliably fast. The food service here is also very quick and accommodating. I always come here to watch movies because they also have recliners.
google avatar

Yelp
I love other theatres in the City but I have really been enjoying coming down here because it's always buzzing and lots of people. The seats and sound are really good. And all the people I met working here are super nice and helpful:)
google avatar

Drew S.

Yelp
My wife and I were in town and decided to catch a movie. We found the e eye ace to the Metreon & took the elevator to the AMC. I used my digital tickets and had no problem. The staff was chill & prompt. We went with black panther in IMAX with the laser projector! It was dope, the seats were comfortable, great sound and picture. I would check this theater out again.
google avatar

Alexander C.

Yelp
This is my go to classic theatre in the city. Of course I love a small neighbourhood theatre as well but sometimes you want to see a blockbuster on a huge screen and this is the place to do it. Seats are comfortable and recline and the IMAX screen is massive.
google avatar

Helen L.

Yelp
Thank you, Metreon, for sticking around. Every Tuesday if you are a Stub member, the tickets cost $7 each ticket. Doesn't matter what time. Finally tried their popcorn and it was delicious. You put your own butter and salt. Restroom is always clean. Staff has always been helpful.
google avatar

Nate V.

Yelp
Staff are atrocious. No help. Led me on when I already had a ticket. Please ask an adult before riding
google avatar

Yelp
Loud, Loud, Loud. Very loud. Volume was painfully loud. Previews had me with my hands over my ears. Walked out. Overall, an exceptionally poor value as a result!

Roop K.

Yelp
Convenient location, super clean, and reclining chairs. I like this location quite a bit. They have a lot of soda machines as well that have a retro ish look to them. Clean bathrooms as well! Friendly staff. Came here twice last week and was very impressed.
google avatar

Bob K.

Yelp
Vastly overpriced, but I'd still pay an extra 50 cents if they'd stop playing that Nicole Kidman video before the movie. Yet I've been here twice in recent weeks. Why? Because they sometimes show films that are hard to find elsewhere, or they get the film before everyone else, and I can't be sure if it will be more widely released. Clean place, clean bathrooms, and seats that recline in a more advanced way than most places. But if you've got to park in a garage somewhere near, and you want a single snack plus beverage, we're talking $50 for a movie. Nuts.
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Disgusting broken down theater with reclining seats that don't work, we were told to move around and then had to move because we were in someone else's seat. The people that work there couldn't fix the seats and the ones that did work were covered in sticky residue. The upholstery was flaking off and the theater was just gross. Don't waste your money going here. AMC is a company that doesn't care about your feedback and has no way to contact them so I am leaving reviews instead. There's a really nice theater on Van Ness by the Civic Center, go there. They at least have functioning seeds and it's clean.

Orion F.

Yelp
This place is huge. It's pretty standard movie theater experience, but they do have a food court on the first floor. Perfectly serviceable theater.

Yelp
This review is more about the AMC A-list program but the Metreon is definitely my favorite location in SF. It has over a dozen theaters with roomy, comfortable reclining seats. It's always pretty clean and the staff are friendly. We have been stupid and left items in theaters before (keys, coats, etc.) and they always have someone waiting with the lost items at guest services. It gets crowded for super popular showings on weekend evenings but otherwise virtually no lines (especially if you are A-list and can use the priority concession lines) and ample seating on the auditoriums themselves--aka minimal apologetic climbing over people when you arrive late. The Stubs program is an "unlimited" subscription service. in California, it's $25 a month per person for 3 shows a week. It is an upfront commitment but pays for itself if you regularly plan to watch 2-3 movies a month anyway. but what really makes it worth it is the waived service/cancelation fees so we can reserve and cancel tickets as we please--very clutch for any last-minute schedule changes! Another notable aspect is that I've never had luck getting customer service on the phone, whether at this location or their main corporate line, so the ease of the fee-less transactions just helps mitigate things going awry and what I'd say you're paying for is the peace of mind. I also like how many dining options that are near the Metreon/Yerba Buena area if you're seeking pre- or post-show bites!

Ben S.

Yelp
Increasing to three stars since AMC has replied to me and resolved the issue. Remaining requests: when a projector breaks and limited release show is cancelled, they should reschedule another showing. Replies from customer support to official help requests should be in less than 24 hours.

Yelp
Second time here. First time I came to see an advanced screening of "Vengeance" which was AMAZING! The theater had reclining seats that were very comfortable Second time was to see an advanced screening of "Thirteen Lives" in the IMAX theater which is huge! Been a while since I've seen an IMAX movie. The seats don't recline in the IMAX theater which was lowkey uncomfortable. But the movie was phenomenal ! They have wipes all outside each theater which is so nice to have to wipe down the seats. Overall very much enjoyed both my experiences at this theater! They have discounted movies on Tuesdays

Yelp
We had 2 tickets and arrived. 5:35 for our 6 pm movie. As we were looking for the bar for drinks. The manager, Mr Lam, in a very bad humor told us to leave the theater and get gift cards as refund of our tickets.

Yelp
Movie scene was clear and big sized,... however the seats, floors were less than desirable. This particular movie theater needs cleaning and the seats should be replaced. The seats are stained from so many years of use and if viewing a movie more than 2-hours,... the seats can be very uncomfortable.

Yelp
I was really having a bad day but Naomi really made me feel so much better. She deserves all the rewards! I will come back just for her

Yelp
This is a gem. We need to protect this at all costs, as downtowns last theater. I just saw, a haunting in Venice. Staff was friendly and great. Theater was clean. The best leather reclining seats. Location is great next to a beautiful park. Food options downstairs. AMC app is very convenient. Pickup snacks is a cool tool to use.
