Google
A must try Mexican restaurant! Ordered street tacos….they do not disappoint! Fresh ingredients, flavorful sauce and properly prepared proteins create a wonderful food harmony! For a person who is not typically a fan of Flans…OMG….. I’m converted. Carmen our server was absolutely wonderful…..never needed to ask for anything. Definitely will be back!

Google
We sat at the bar and Obed did a fantastic job! He was on top of our drink orders and food orders, and made sure we had what we needed. The food had great flavor. The chips and salsa (both red and green salsa) were great. The beans had a nice smokey flavor and were addicting.

Sara Castro

Google
Food is beyond delicious and the drinks are amazing. Staff was accommodating when we wanted to move to the patio after already being seated. Service was fast. Definitely recommend for anyone wanting authentic Mexican food and a good time.

Google
It was such a fun and homey restaurant! Lauren was very professional and super kind. The food was extra tasty and I'm very impressed with the presentation as well. If you like Mexican food then you'll have a great time. The portions are good sized, so come hungry!

Google
I had high expectations walking into Amelia’s Mexican Kitchen, as their chef was recently nominated for the James Beard Award, and I heard nothing but great things about this restaurant. We were quickly seated (Sunday afternoon, no wait time), and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our time. As for the food, one of the highlights was their table side salsa, which gave our tastebuds quite a kickstart. For entrees, I highly recommend the chicken enchiladas, the red sauce is flavorful and rich. I’m giving 4 stars because our waiter forgot about one of our tacos, and my partner got beef instead of chicken in his burrito (which was still excellent!). Overall we had a great experience, we will definitely be back.

Google
My first time in Tucson and we had the pleasure of having Carmen as our waitress! She was amazing. Carmen went above and beyond! The chips and dip were delicious but we were missing a little heat. Carmen surprised us with her own concoction of a perfectly spicy salsa! We put it on EVERYTHING! Highly recommend !

Google
Food and service were absolutely incredible! Per back of the menu; they have used Grandma's Amelia's recipes and it shows! Salsa was a perfect blend with a nice slow burn kick that even the seasoned youth could enjoy. I actually purchased some for home use! Chicken Enchiladas were excellent.! I'm thinking all fresh ingredients were used; as the meal didn't leave me feeling overstuffed and bloated. Internet speeds were blazing fast! The location must be close to a tower!! The high tech checkout was pretty awesome.! Items of concern. The bathroom needs to be bigger and if space permits, separate facilities for men and women. Also the high tech hand dryer was a bit confusing for a guy my age. Probably a sticker or something to identify it. Finally, a second look at the very bright neon sign up front...😉 Overal; would highly recommend it if you're looking for authentic Mexican food that's delicious and affordable!! Go early this place gets packed quick!!

Google
We went here for a mom night and read all the review saying it had the best in town. We enjoyed the food, but weren't overly impressed. The presentation was amazing, everything came on nice platters, the fajita plates were steaming so much it got cloudy at one point, and the molcajete bowls looked tempting. Universally, everyone who ordered a drink said it was amazing

Yelp
First time here, Great food great service. Rosa provided a great experience. 3 mix tacos are great.

Yelp
Francisco provided amazing service! Great food (always go for the carnitas burro - wow). Packed crowd. Glad we got a rese. Love this place

Yelp
Our first time for lunch here. The service was excellent. An amazing menu of options, with generous portions. I had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce- there was also a choice of red sauce. Very delicious. In addition to the great food and service, the little details stand out....the whimsical yet elegant decor and the lovely water carafes elevate "grabbing lunch" into something special. I look forward to returning sometime soon, when I have a more leisurely day planned and trying one of the cocktails.

Yelp
**Amelia's is overrated.** We arrived at 11:00 PM and were seated quickly. Our waters and my draft beer came right away, but then our waitress disappeared for 20 minutes. I finally had to get up to find her and ask why she hadn't taken our order. Her response: *"We have a lot of to-go orders."* I suggested that, like any busy pizza place, she could tell callers they'd need to wait instead of leaving seated customers hanging. That earned me an eye roll. The food, while tasty, didn't arrive until another 20 minutes later. We won't be going back. Unless you want to sit around waiting, skip dining in and just call for takeout.

Yelp
Came here for a Culinary Collaboration Dinner from Luis Martinez and Jose Contreras. it was a wonderful evening. food was very good, some dishes i thought could be better but that's my own taste. Environment was great, met a couple couples next to us while we are our 7 courses.

Yelp
Visited this spot after reading the Yelp reviews. I have to admitted that I was perplexed after eating the food here. Let me explain my confusion. 1. The alcoholic beverages were lacking character. No try flavor, premade and no precision with liquid ratios. 2. No hot sauce on tables. Now think about that-when is the last time that you went to a Mexican restaurant and didn't see hot sauce on the table. That should've been a sign. 3. No flavor! Absolutely none. I ordered their birria taco + caldo. There was no excitement about it. I tasted no seasoning, which means they should probably increase the seasoning. Not even a flake of salt. The rice tasted like it came from a microwaveable package. That's not it! Plus, the chorizo queso dip lacked flavor as well. I think it would be better if the chorizo was mixed with in the queso instead of a small amount on top. 4. The highlight of this visit was the wings, which is why I rated this location a 2 (and our server was cool. He checked on us multiple times). The wings were tender and the sauce was good. Oh and the carrots and celery were fresh and popping. That's all I got. An authentic review about my experience.

Yelp
I was surprised to see some negatives reviews but now I agree. The food has gone downhill. The past 2 times I've been here, it was not that good. Tonight we had the molcajete mixto. The chicken and steak were severely overcooked, the chicken was inedible. The shrimp were overcooked and not cleaned (still had the poop vein). The torito was the best item in the whole dish. The rice had no flavor. The time before this we had shrimp fajitas that were flavorless. The service was great the both times I've been recently. However, I will not be rushing back.

Yelp
Saw how great the reviews were for this place and wanted to try it out. The place is very small with outdoor seating. It was packed when we got here so we had to wait for some tables to open. Although the place is small, some people were getting seated first, even though they came after us. Once we said something and got seated, we had to say something again as we waited another 20 minutes for a server to greet us while other people around us were getting their orders taken even though they got seated after us. I understand their place is small and they might be understaffed but it seems you get better service if you sit inside than outside. Tried their "award winning quesabirras" - nothing award winning about it and I've had way better. False advertising! Not sure how this place gets 5 star reviews, it was nothing close to it.
google avatar

Maiko K.

Yelp
My friend and I went to try their margarita that won the championship! Their margarita del Sol sure didnt disappoint. I also tried their margarita with prickly pear. It was good but was on the sweeter side. We ordered quesabirria and shrimp ceviche. Ceviche was delicious! We were a little stunned that they charge extra for dipping sauce for the quesabirria! I hadn't seen that before in other places.

Yelp
Our place in Tuscon. The most charming servers and staff. Listen to Selena as you devour this authentic cuisine and savour every bite. Thank you, friends, for keeping us so well-fed in Tucson!
google avatar

Yelp
This place serves one of the best chicken enchiladas I have ever had. Delicious green enchilada sauce. Sides of beans and rice were excelente. I will definitely come back and try one something else on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Mexican restaurant in Tucson! Everything from the house margs to the opening salsa is delicious. I am a fan of the seafood Molcajete, but also got the street tacos last time I went and they were just as good. You also can't beat their prices at all and they serve breakfast all day. The service was super fast and the servers are all very nice. Also I love the faux plant wall with neon signs, it's a nice touch. We will be going back many times to come.

Yelp
Favorite chilaquiles! The cafe de olla is the best! Great place for breakfast or brunch!

Yelp
Once again, an absolutely wonderful meal thanks in large to our amazing server Rosa! We enjoy street tacos and a carne asada burrito along with a fantastic Mezcalita margarita... yum!

Yelp
1st time I tried the chile relleno n it was ok. Second time I tried the quesabirria tacos with rice n beans on side. They were ok. It's like the food needed salt and the salsas needed heat. This is second time here n even mechilada was bland. My husband tried the 3 taco plate. One taco was chicken n one was asada n one was pastor and he said he doesn't ever need to come again. Bummer seeing everyone raves about it but after eating Mexican food all over Cali I've yet to find a mole as good as in Santa Monica on pico blvd.

Pascal M.

Yelp
Amazing attention and food! Our waitress Rosa was outstanding, very friendly and professional
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent excellent excellent! We have been to both locations and neither disappoint. Which comes as no surpise given their James beard nomination. The food is beyond incredible. It's simple yet elevated and exploding with flavor. The Molcajete Mixo is visually stunning when it comes out- full of shrimp, chicken, tender beef, with bell peppers wrapped in bacon and stuffed with pure goodness. Plus plenty of nopales and bubbling tomatillo to add to your bites. The queso with chorizo is a delicious starter. And you really can't go wrong with any of their specialty drinks! Service was good- a little forgetful but overall very kind and helpful. Oh and- order the churos- even if you're full, they are delicious!!!

Yelp
Obed is extraordinary! Great service, wonderful food and the best margaritas in town! perfect weather on the patio with the misters on! We are looking forward to the upgrade on the patio! We will see you soon Obed!

Yelp
What absolutely delicious gem of a restaurant! We stopped in for lunch today and got the quesabirria tacos and the chilaquiles with green sauce and carne asada. We shared, and both dishes were fantastic! The sauce on the chilaquiles was very rich and flavorful, standing up well against the eggs and carne asada. The quesabirria tacos were really excellent too -- and I say that as someone who's gotten quesabirria tacos at easily two dozen different restaurants in Tucson. The tortillas were really strong, and had crisped up nicely along the edges. The birria and consommé were both packed with flavor! I savored absolutely every bite. I was also impressed by the beans; I'm usually not a fan of refried beans in general, but these were really well-cooked and well-seasoned. I finished every bit! We sat outside, but I will also say I really liked the decor inside. The colorful paintings on the walls and bright blue and white tiles make for a really charmingly happy vibe!

Yelp
This is a nice little restaurant with some great food. The service is top notch. We dined in the outdoor area which was very pleasant. The food has plenty of flavor and the portions are generous. Call ahead to make a reservation as this location can become full fast. I will definitely eat here again in the future.

Yelp
Stopped by today for lunch and was surprised at how busy it was! Super cute in great little spot with indoor and outdoor seating; food was fantastic, service was wonderful, definitely a great little hidden gem
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good foods n services from Amelia Mexican Kitchen, it serves well in service efficient and groom politely... one of the best casual Mexican restaurant in town... Chips were crispy and Carne Asada were tasty and delicious, rices and beans were cooked right on!!!
google avatar

Cindy G.

Yelp
The food was excellent! It was kind of loud but it didn't bother me. The host didn't give us utensils, which we didn't get until after our food arrived. We had to ask 2 different people for utensil. I noticed the tables on either side of us also were not given utensils upon being seated. The waitress was good but she seemed more attentive to the other customers. It seemed to me they had already determined we weren't good tippers and gave the "apparent" wealthy people better service: checking on them more often, bringing them what they wanted almost immediately whereas we waited a long while and had to ask twice for napkins, utensils, more water. The best part of the meal was the food

Yelp
Visited this spot after spending the day at Saguaro National Park and it was good. I'm from LA and don't care to eat Mexican food outside of so cal unless I'm in Mexico but this was really good. I went with a group of 6 and everyone enjoyed their food Birria was pretty good. I got quesabirria with ramen and an extra shrimp quesabirria taco. The shrimp taco was bomb! I dipped it in my soup for some extra juice. Others got fajitas and enchiladas, and they said it was ok. Guac and beans was good. Our server was great and had great recommendations. I'd definitely recommend it.

Adam J.

Yelp
Was recommended this place by peers, we stepped inside and it was a little crowded but the ambiance was good. My wife and I shared a (Best Selling) Amelia's Molcajete as it look appealing on the menu. The presentation was awesome and our mouths watered when they brought the steaming molcajete to us. Tried a bit of everything and it was disappointing, we had to ask for salt and pepper as the whole dish tasted as bland as tofu. The beans and rice had more flavor than the whole molcajete. I don't know if it was an off day or bad meat or if they don't believe in seasoning but it was not worth the price. I wouldn't recommend the dish but maybe some of the other options would be better. *** Main reason for low score is the server/management. As me and my wife ate, the older female server started scolding the young host for lack of tables in front of the consumers. I've worked in restaurant management for years and that type of behavior should be taken care of behind closed doors and not in front of the whole restaurant.

Yelp
This is a very popular restaurant, but we were lucky to snag a place at the bar when visiting back in February. Our service was great throughout our meal and we really enjoyed our cocktails (spicy margarita and prickly pear margarita). The chips and salsa were nice and the salsa had a nice kick to it. My wife got the birria tacos, which she loved, and I got mixed fajitas that were delicious. We really enjoyed our meal here and would come back here again in a heartbeat!

Yelp
TGIF at 1:30pm, no wait, seated quickly and our server Obed arrived just as fast! Service was terrific, polite, and just enough checking in. The indoor atmosphere was clean, music (salsa) playing in background and 1/2 full with customers. My son and I enjoyed our lunch, I purchased a wildcat burro for take out to bring my hubby a surprise dinner, (too hot to cook)! My son ordered the 2 quesobirria tacos that came with rice, beans, smoked jalapeño and the dipping broth. He enjoyed his meal, and said everything was seasoned so well. I ordered the grilled shrimp street tacos with rice and beans. It came with two slices of lime and a spiced creama. The shrimp tacos were excellent! I loved the flavor and the cabbage was diced finely that it made it easy to eat. I will say I am particular with refried beans and Mexican rice. Both were exceptional! Next time a bean burro will be ordered! I will have to edit/wait on the review later tonight on the wildcat burro so I may receive my hubby's thoughts on his spicey burro! Overall, very good dining experience and a fantastic first visit to the original location.

Yelp
Best dang Quesa Birria, awesome Chile Rillenos, great vibe and Carmen is a great and attentive server!

Angela S.

Yelp
Delicious and the prices are good! Lunch was delicious. I wish they were closer. We were in Tucson for a visit from Washington and tried it out. We were impressed with the food , price and service.
google avatar

Laura D.

Yelp
Well the ambiance is adorable! Very Instagram worthy but it is quite small. They have a cute patio but we all know it's to damn hot for that. I ordered the 3 tacos. I got carne asada, battered fish, birria. To be honest it was super underwhelming! I was so sad. The fish didn't have much flavor. The carne asada was also just bland and the birria in my opinion was too sweet. My dad ordered the Birria ramen and again to me the broth is sweet. And super greasy! I also ordered a michilada hoping for a good one. It was just Bloody Mary mix. Not good at all. I was super sad about that. But I did enjoy the salsa and chips that had amazing flavor! I also didn't enjoy the bathroom. It's one stall for men and women and it was uncomfortable small. I just wasn't impressed and truly I'm confused on how they have these awards. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but I don't think that should happen if you're winning awards.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING. The chimichanga was so flavorful especially when their salsa verde was added. The best part of my experience here was ROSA!! She's the absolute sweetest to my family of 10. She assisted us with splitting the check and was so incredibly patient. I'm really glad to have had her as our server
google avatar

Desiret T.

Yelp
WE LOVE ROSA! so welcoming, really helpful, the vibes of the restaurant were so great! the food was 10/10! they were able to seat our party of 10 in 10mins WITHOUT A RESERVATION! coming back every time we visit!!!
google avatar

Nick W.

Yelp
Excellent fresh ingredients! Lauren was our warm and efficient server. All the staff seem happy and the bartender on duty today is distractingly handsome. Cool Mexican music and authentic Sonoran ambiance and hospitality!
google avatar

Mandy T.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on Monday night and were surprised by how busy it was. I requested time between the appetizer and entrees, but the entrees arrived just a couple of minutes after the appetizer. The shrimp ceviche was way too salty, and the Christmas-style sauce on the chicken enchiladas was similarly salty, with the chicken itself overcooked. The steak fajitas were unfortunately inedible--both of us found the steak too fatty and overcooked to even chew, leaving most of the plate untouched. Disappointingly, no one checked in with us about it. The beans and rice were the only good part of the meal. As for drinks, neither the Cadillac nor regular house margaritas were to my taste, but the spicy margarita was enjoyable. The sangria tasted like watered-down red wine without much fruit flavor.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
My partner and I noticed Amelia's when stopping by a nearby business and decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly and seated us promptly. We enjoyed some chips and salsa while deciding what to order. I opted for Shrimp street tacos, and my partner got shrimp enchiladas. The three street tacos was a perfectly sized serving for me, and the dish was flavorful without being salty. My partner enjoyed his enchiladas too. Amelia's has an open, bright interior and is casual. It was busy the whole time we were there. We will go back if in the area.

Yelp
Reviewing: Amelia's Mexican Kitchen Rating: 5 out of 5 Address: 5851 N Oracle Rd Second location: 5553 E Grant Rd Hours: Mon-Thurs: 7-8:30pm / Fri-Sat: 7-9pm / Sun: 8-8pm. Order: 1. Quesabirria Tacos x4 (with caldo): $18.65 2. Horchata: $3.50 (FREE REFILLS!) 3. Burrito Bacado: $10.99 The quesabirria tacos were the best I've ever eaten hands down! No wonder they are award winning! Definitely a must try for sure! Nice little crunch and the meat was super juicy and tender, melt in your mouth type thing. The horchata was absolutely delicious and I was very surprised it was free refills as everywhere else I've been has never had free refills and definitely didn't taste as good either. The breakfast burrito was pretty good as well, definitely filled with all the fixings. Not the best I've had as I personally like my burritos more cooked on the outside for that crisp texture but it was pretty good. The waitress was very nice and pleasant and checked on us a few times which was nice. She did her job well. Definitely left a tip for her. I will definitely be returning soon!
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
I've been to the Grant location but wanted to try the newer oracle location today. We went for lunch on a Friday and it was packed! Limited parking, although there may have been some around the back of the strip, not sure. They have a very small patio outside with a few tables, there wasn't anything available inside and I didn't get to see much of the place but what I did see was nice. The food was amazing like the Grant location.
google avatar

Leah B.

Yelp
I am glad Amelia's opened a location on the north side. I've been a few times and very much enjoyed the dinner (burrito board, mocolejete and Burris tacos). However I recently went for brunch and my eggs were bland and meat chewy. Maybe it was just a bad day, so I'll give them another chance...
google avatar

Rick O.

Yelp
Excellent Chicken Enchiladas and Chicken Chimichanga thanks. Great service and beautiful atmosphere
google avatar

Jillian W.

Yelp
We got take out only from Amelias so I will need to update this if we ever dine in. Really underwhelmed with the burrito and tacos especially given the glowing reviews. Maybe we got the wrong items. The veggie burrito was okay. It wasn't bad but I didn't really enjoy the crunchy undercooked peppers. My family member had the shrimp and fish tacos which were good but again nothing special. It's not bad but not sure we will order again.

Art D.

Yelp
Rosa was amazing. She gave us amazing service and I just love going there because of Rosa and the ambience of the establishment is phenomenal. Much love Rosa thank you

Jennifer R.

Yelp
First of all, the food was really great! Food was 5 Stars! I had the Birria ramen and taco. Great value and great food. My husband enjoyed his meal completely as well. My margarita was delicious but had very little alcohol in it. There are some restaurants I will order mixed drinks in and some that I won't. Based on my first fixed drink, I won't be ordering more here. It's too expensive to not have much alcohol in it. The service was a 4 star experience. It was good but definitely not great. The bathroom, while fairly clean, had no toilet paper which brought the restaurant itself down to a 3 for me. The food was worth it, but I would stick to beer or wine and avoid the weak drinks. And make sure you have tissues in your purse when you use the restroom!
google avatar

Palak S.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place given the recent James Beard award and hype! Don't think the food lived up to its hype though. Chips were slightly stale. Ordered a bean and cheese burrito enchilada style and the first burrito was COLD. Sent it back and 2nd time came warmed throughout, which was good. Beans have a meat/lard forward flavor profile, which I don't like. Also ordered the quesabirria tacos and those were good and tasty! Ambiance was loud. Service was good and waiter was accommodating to remake the burrito. If I went back, I'd want to try their breakfast burritos and that menu looked extensive!

Cristian A.

Yelp
Muy buen servicio rosa nos atendió muy amablemente recomendado ir a comer chilaquiles mis favoritos

Yelp
Our first time here. I've heard so many good things about this place; I don't know why I kept putting off our visit. That was my mistake. There was a long line at 5 p.m. on a Saturday. My husband is leaving for company training, so I wanted to make it a special dinner date. The wait time was 30-40 minutes, but it was all worth it. Mario, our server, was so friendly and accommodating. I think all the staff are very friendly here. And when it comes to the food, it made the whole visit worthwhile! I will definitely come back, but I will make a reservation. And I recommend that to everyone. The place is very casual and colorful! And not to mention, place is really loud!
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
I enjoyed the enchiladas con huevos--twice! Then on another visit, I enjoyed the quesabirria with soup. You can't go wrong with either of Amelia's locations. Superb Mexican food, one of Tucson's best! The location on Grant is smallish and you may have to wait. The Oracle location is roomy and conducive to group parties. You haven't eaten Mexican food in Tucson until you've tried Amelia's Mexican Kitchen! 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Yelp
Food & Beverages are 5 - they make a great margarita with a house made mixer that was delicious, not too sweet or tart. We went with the Cadillac margarita on the rocks and it was really good! The chips were freshly cooked and came with two salsas (red molcajete & green roasted tomatillo) which were both very good. The food was so good! My husband ordered the Birria Ramen with a Quesabirria taco - it comes with a large, steaming bowl of Birria consommé with generous shreds of tender beef and ramen noodles. The flavor was amazing! I ordered one quesabirria taco with consommé and two street tacos - beer-battered shrimp (with two large shrimp) and the JASS (with asada, cheese and green chili). The tacos were all delicious and were enough to fill me up! Prices are pretty reasonable, but the two Cadillac margaritas were a bit pricey - definitely good, but $15 per drink was over our price point. Service was 5 - we didn't have reservations, but were able to be seated immediately on the patio. Our server was Martha and she was great. She gave us time to peruse the menu and the. Quickly took our order. Our food came out hot in a reasonable amount of time. Ambiance - we sat on the patio so nothing special about ambience. We didn't go inside, so I can't say what it was like. Amelia's also has a great breakfast menu which we will have to come back to try, along with some of their other menu items that looked and sounded great - our table neighbors ordered burritos which were huge! The guy said the habanero chicken burrito was amazing and not too spicy. We also saw some really tasty-looking chili rellenos I want to try.

Yelp
I've been eyeing this restaurant for a while and finally made it for lunch. It was not a disappointment what so ever. Ricky at the bar was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I got the mixed taco plate with Al pastor, shrimp and a quesabirria tacos . The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the quesabirria with the caldo was an explosion of flavors. It was a bit busy, but I got a spot at the bar and the atmosphere was lively and all the staff were very friendly. I will be back and will definitely have Ricky make me a margarita next time!

Yelp
They have done a great job renovating the restaurant! It has a fun, clean, vibrant feel, with murals, etc inside. The food is delicious as well! We've ordered breakfast (for pick up or dine in several times and everything is so good!). Waitstaff has been knowledgeable on what is/isn't gluten free in my experience (The red enchilada sauce is not gluten free, but the green is!). They have also been helpful with my son's food allergies (PN, TN, sesame)- he had eaten here several times, no issues. On our most recent visit, we had the molcajete (mixto- chicken, shrimp and avocado)- delicious! The sauce is so good- it has a kick for sure but also so many layers of flavor! We also had the fajitas mixtas (we had them with chicken and shrimp, no steak)- also a delicious flavor! They come out sizzling/steaming which was fun and exciting for the kids haha The mango margaritas are pretty and tasty as well!
