Google
First time here after getting a lot of good things about it. I wanted to try a bunch of tacos, and tacos we sure did try! Between my girlfriend and I we had a veggie taco, shrimp taco, fish taco, carne asada taco, chicken habanero taco and the famous quesabirria taco. Everything was excellent! These are street tacos so they're kind of small, but each one of them was packed with flavor. My favorites were the quesabirria and the carne asada. My girlfriend loved the veggie and the shrimp one. Don't get me wrong - it was all good. Chips and salsa were delicious as well. A couple of quick notes - it took a little while till our server came to take our order. Also, we sat right under the AC filter vent, and it sure needs some cleaning. Again, I'm not being negative, just constructive criticism. I'll definitely be back!

Google
Genuinely a contender for best Mexican food in town. The free chips and salsa is enough to wow! Cocktails are excellent too. We got the quessabirria tacos and were really impressed. Thank you to our wonderful server Carlos!!

Google
We had such a great experience at Amelia’s! Our waitress, Rosa, was absolutely wonderful, warm, attentive, and kind. She made us feel right at home from the moment we sat down. We ordered the molcajete mixto, which she highly recommended! Rosa made sure everything came out perfectly and checked in just the right amount without being intrusive. She truly cares about her guests and loves what she does. Thank you, Rosa, for making our dinner so enjoyable, we’ll definitely be back!

Google
We’re in Tucson for a family wedding. This was our 1st time here at Amelia’s. We are of Mexican descent so we are critical of our Mexican food (not TexMex). First test was the Salsa w/ chips. Both very delicious (not hot but had great flavor). Francisco, our waiter, brought us our beautiful Mimosa’s. Recommended the Chilaquiles Divorciados (added eggs, steak) for brunch. Very filling and sabroso!!! Topped it off with an Irish Coffee.

Google
We really enjoyed our dinner at Amelia‘s. Seating is both inside and outside and while busy there was no wait for a table. The menu has many options for all tastes and it is conveniently located on Oracle. The tacos were very good as well as the burritos, guacamole and flan with chocolate cake. While we were spending a few days in Tucson, this was by far the best restaurant meal we had.

Google
When in Tucson, seize the moment and go big at Amelia's Mexican Kitchen. Anywhere this place could be located would garner serious fans! A real gem in the desert. Birria is their speciality along with Mocajahete. Nothing but true real authentic dishes, no processed ingredients! Great drink menu. A must visit! Go see Obed, and he will take excellent care of you. He is a great bartender and server!! Bueno!!!!

Google
The food was decent, but not amazing. The rolled tacos had good flavor, though they could’ve used a bit more seasoning and the tortillas weren’t as fresh as I expected. The service was friendly but a little slow, especially considering it wasn’t very busy. The atmosphere was nice and clean, and the prices were fair for what you get. Overall, it’s an okay spot if you’re craving Mexican food.

Google
A must try Mexican restaurant! Ordered street tacos….they do not disappoint! Fresh ingredients, flavorful sauce and properly prepared proteins create a wonderful food harmony! For a person who is not typically a fan of Flans…OMG….. I’m converted. Carmen our server was absolutely wonderful…..never needed to ask for anything. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
This place is amazing and our waiter Gabe was excellent I got the carne asada nachos

Yelp
I had walked a section of the Loop with my dog and saw this restaurant was in the area. I had always wanted to try it. It was 4:45pm on a Friday and I knew it would be busy. The parking lot was filling up fast. Since I was by myself and my dog was resting in the car under a shade tree, I ate at the bar to free up a table. This was a wise decision as 30 minutes later all the tables were occupied. I can see why this place does so well. Everything about this restaurant is top notch: the food, the service, the ambiance. All the servers wear clean, professional uniforms(black shirt and pants for the men, white blouse and black pants for women) and work the floor as a team. I was impressed. No dirty plate is left sitting on the table. I ordered a chicken enchilada platter with both red and green sauce. The presentation was beautiful, with the rice, beans and salad served on a separate plate. I used some of the sauce for both the salad and beans. I was so full, I couldn't finish my chips that I got before the meal . Even the salsa was delicious. When I left at 5:30pm, the restaurant and the patio tables were full. I had timed this visit perfectly.

Yelp
Well dinner for four. hmmm, there are too many tables inside so the initial seating was forced. Finally we moved the table tight, but two can't get up till it's moved again. I added a star because the Shrimp Fahitas were hot and delish. That's where it ends. The single Chili Renello was cold on a cold plate. My beef taquitos were very good but lacked enough guacamole. Not just four table spoons. The rice n beans are served in individual square bowls, everyone gets two, plus water and drinks and you can imagine this table ran out of room. Our server didn't say what was still coming , so you asked. Now it feels like you are asking for too much , so it becomes , let's wait and see. Way too much effort for fair Mexican food in a loud place. So Not for us, 3 stars , is me being nice.

Yelp
Eva was our server and was outstanding Went there with my wife and a friend. Wife is not crazy about Mexican food, but loved the meal. She said she would even go back. I had the Machaca burrito for breakfast three tacos and a queso birria taco and all of it was outstanding Taco Tuesday rocks will be back there again in a heartbeat

Yelp
AMAZING! Arguably the best tasting enchilada sauce I've ever had. The beans are smooth and smoky, so delicious. The veggie taco and quesabirria tacos were very tasty. The ambiance is great in here, super good vibes. Our server Gabe was so nice and attentive. Thanks Gabe!

Yelp
The food here is delicious 10/10. The molcajete with chicken, beef and shrimp is my all time favorite with a horchata. The service is fast and the prices and very great!

Yelp
One of the first meal impressions... The Fajitas are smmmokin'. The tables have inlaid turquoise. Water glasses look like cut crystal. Ambience is lively. Decor is colorful, eclectic. Seating areas throughout seem to have their own theme/style. PBS Cooking shows are on the tvs at and over the bar. My regret, we didn't order the Fajitas. We both ordered a Chimichanga. Ground Beef for my friend, with only rice, and I went with Carne asada or something similar with beans and rice, Christmas Style. When our entrees arrived I noticed no beans or rice on either one of our plates. So then I think it's going to be served on another plate and it's going to arrive in a minute or two. Imagine my surprise to find my Chimichanga has rice and beans INSIDE of it. Yeeuck. Don't fill my Chimi with filler. Beans and rice are an accompaniment, not the main dish. My excitement of trying a new restaurant was immediately doused. Guacamole contained excessive amount of onion. Red and green sauce had good flavor but lacked the heat I anticipated. Even the salsa was on the "safe" side, if your a snowbird. Overall, the atmosphere was nice, prices competitive, but the food did not make me want to dine here again.

Yelp
Wow! I've been waiting to come here for awhile and it was worth the wait!! I tried going to the other location but the wait was so long. This time I made a reservation at this location with no wait. Food- delicious! We left super stuffed and satisfied. The serving sizes were very filling. The food came out really fast and tasted freshly made. The mini chimis were delicious- a surprisingly addicting snack with fun toppings. The quesabirria was one of the best I've had. Lots of meat and delicious dip without a sign of cilantro! It's so rare to find a place able to separate out cilantro. The rice and beans were seasoned so well too. The carne asada burrito was huge and the salsas on top made it truly delectable. Ambiance- very clean spacious and nice. I think there may have been some smoke in the restaurant which made it look a bit misty but it didn't smell like smoke at least. Service- Gabe was our server and he was great. Attentive patient and friendly. Overall nice service Highly recommend!

Yelp
The drinks are stellar and the food was fantastic! Got a Oaxacan Old Fashioned and 2 tacos and was surprised by the quality and the authenticity of the food. Mama Amelia knew what she was doing tbh this stuff was so good I'd make the drive from Los Angeles just to eat it again.

Yelp
Service was good. We made reservations online and seated not too long after we arrived. I had the machaca breakfast burrito with green and red sauce on the side. The burrito was large enough for 2. It was good with plenty of egg and machaca.
google avatar

Yelp
Let's start with the award winning green salsa it's delicious. The chiaquiles divorciados with birria were bomba and the cafecito de olla, delicioso. So many dishes to choose from. My server Matty was very attentive and friendly so thank you! The restaurant has ample space and an amazing outdoor space for cooler weather. It was a pleasure meeting the one and only Mario Hernández Alonso of the world famous Mexico's Michelin starred Taqueria El Califa de León who was dining at this restaurant who's chef is also known for his excellent food.

Yelp
I had some out of town guests staying in OV and they wanted to meet for dinner - good Mx food was the preference so I suggested Amelia's. They loooooved it. Their "winning" Carrizal margarita was a hit with just the right balance of spice and heat. And their signature quesabirria tacos and chicken tortilla soup were both excellent as usual. Service was good with one caveat. Our server ALWAYS interrupted us without warning or a "pardon me" - the second she reached our table she began talking OVER our ongoing convos. Every time. She was otherwise pleasant and attentive but, man o man, hello? Parking is free in their shared private lot but it can get crowded easily, necessitating a short walk, at worst. Ambiance is pleasant and conducive to good convo as well.

Yelp
We attended the Tour Oaxaca at Amelia's Mexican Kitchen on Oracle Rd on August 30th. The tour featured 7 courses featuring the region. We appreciated the care with which each offering was crafted. Course 1 - Oyster, Course 2 - Tostada, Course 3 - Tetela, Course 4 - Sope, Course 5 - Taco de Plaza, Course 6 - Mole Negro, and Course 7 - Nicuatole. The atmosphere was very lively with music in the background and the Dia de Los Muertos mural on the back wall. The 'experience' was held in the back of the restaurant closest to the mural. I was hoping to hear from the chef's more about each course and it's significance to the region. We ordered drinks before dinner service. The drinks featured with the dinner were mescal based and very tasty. Our trio tried the Old Fashioned, Paloma, and the Mule. The drinks were 10/10. It seemed like a long delay before the 1st course came out but after the first course, they were rolling and the service was well coordinated. Every server was AMAZING! They were each eager to serve and truly invested in making sure that everything was coordinated well. Some of the best service I've received in Tucson. After each course, they would swing by to ask how we enjoyed everything. The food was good. I especially enjoyed course 1, 4, and 6. No one in our party liked the dessert course. The consistency was like a flan but the taste fell flat. Overall, I thought the experience was ok but there were some missed opportunities for education and connection in the event. However, their regular menu appears to fantastic. Patrons dining for the regular menu all appeared to thoroughly enjoy their entrees. They also have a cute outdoor patio with misters and the temperature was very comfortable. So, we will definitely check them out again.

Yelp
Our first time for lunch here. The service was excellent. An amazing menu of options, with generous portions. I had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce- there was also a choice of red sauce. Very delicious. In addition to the great food and service, the little details stand out....the whimsical yet elegant decor and the lovely water carafes elevate "grabbing lunch" into something special. I look forward to returning sometime soon, when I have a more leisurely day planned and trying one of the cocktails.

Yelp
AMAZING! If you haven't had it you must try this place you won't regret it. Thank you Rosa for the EXCELLENT service

Yelp
Visited this spot after reading the Yelp reviews. I have to admitted that I was perplexed after eating the food here. Let me explain my confusion. 1. The alcoholic beverages were lacking character. No try flavor, premade and no precision with liquid ratios. 2. No hot sauce on tables. Now think about that-when is the last time that you went to a Mexican restaurant and didn't see hot sauce on the table. That should've been a sign. 3. No flavor! Absolutely none. I ordered their birria taco + caldo. There was no excitement about it. I tasted no seasoning, which means they should probably increase the seasoning. Not even a flake of salt. The rice tasted like it came from a microwaveable package. That's not it! Plus, the chorizo queso dip lacked flavor as well. I think it would be better if the chorizo was mixed with in the queso instead of a small amount on top. 4. The highlight of this visit was the wings, which is why I rated this location a 2 (and our server was cool. He checked on us multiple times). The wings were tender and the sauce was good. Oh and the carrots and celery were fresh and popping. That's all I got. An authentic review about my experience.

Yelp
Fabulous food, excellent service once again what more could you ask for? We had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's birthday with the grandkids and family. I'm at uploading a few more pictures for foods that we hadn't tried before. Everything was just scrumptious. I know my husband and son-in-law would highly recommend the nachos! And the kids loved the Nutella pancakes with a side of birria tacos. Haha actually they shared two orders between them. And I love the survey. It was great.

Yelp
10/10 wildcat breakfast burrito and red chilaquiles with eggs. Got seated fast and the service from Rosa and everyone was immaculate

Yelp
Francisco was a great server for our table, we came in with a bunch of people from our Air Force Squadron and he was very attentive to our needs, including providing endless chips and salsa. Salsa. I appreciate his attentiveness to detail and kindness, even if we may have seemed a little demanding or particular. Eating outside of Amelia's kitchen was a relaxing and calming experience for our Friday. Thank you, Francisco!

Andrew D.

Yelp
Food, and our server Gabe made it a special experience. Molcajete was on point. Would recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Saw how great the reviews were for this place and wanted to try it out. The place is very small with outdoor seating. It was packed when we got here so we had to wait for some tables to open. Although the place is small, some people were getting seated first, even though they came after us. Once we said something and got seated, we had to say something again as we waited another 20 minutes for a server to greet us while other people around us were getting their orders taken even though they got seated after us. I understand their place is small and they might be understaffed but it seems you get better service if you sit inside than outside. Tried their "award winning quesabirras" - nothing award winning about it and I've had way better. False advertising! Not sure how this place gets 5 star reviews, it was nothing close to it.
google avatar

Maiko K.

Yelp
My friend and I went to try their margarita that won the championship! Their margarita del Sol sure didnt disappoint. I also tried their margarita with prickly pear. It was good but was on the sweeter side. We ordered quesabirria and shrimp ceviche. Ceviche was delicious! We were a little stunned that they charge extra for dipping sauce for the quesabirria! I hadn't seen that before in other places.
google avatar

Deb P.

Yelp
Our place in Tuscon. The most charming servers and staff. Listen to Selena as you devour this authentic cuisine and savour every bite. Thank you, friends, for keeping us so well-fed in Tucson!

Patty C.

Yelp
Rosa's service was amazing! We had chips and guac within 1 min of sitting down. And our food was brought out just as quickly as we ordered it!!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for a Culinary Collaboration Dinner from Luis Martinez and Jose Contreras. it was a wonderful evening. food was very good, some dishes i thought could be better but that's my own taste. Environment was great, met a couple couples next to us while we are our 7 courses.
google avatar

Stephane K.

Yelp
This was one of the few places around here with a high rating a high number of people rating it. Honestly, one of the best places I've ever eaten. The food was fresh, the drinks were perfectly flavored and the service was incredible. I would highly recommend if you are in the area, you MUST stop here. 10/10, I want to eat here again, Ashley was incredible!!! She made sure our food didn't have cheese (allergies) and honestly, she was so kind.
google avatar

Chelsea J.

Yelp
I was surprised to see some negatives reviews but now I agree. The food has gone downhill. The past 2 times I've been here, it was not that good. Tonight we had the molcajete mixto. The chicken and steak were severely overcooked, the chicken was inedible. The shrimp were overcooked and not cleaned (still had the poop vein). The torito was the best item in the whole dish. The rice had no flavor. The time before this we had shrimp fajitas that were flavorless. The service was great the both times I've been recently. However, I will not be rushing back.
google avatar

Zianna G.

Yelp
Francisco was amazing!!!! He was very attentive and kind and genuinely treated us like family. I had family in town and he made our dinner experience really good and memorable. Will be coming back for sure because of both the food and the service from Francisco!
google avatar

Erika P.

Yelp
Excellent excellent excellent! We have been to both locations and neither disappoint. Which comes as no surpise given their James beard nomination. The food is beyond incredible. It's simple yet elevated and exploding with flavor. The Molcajete Mixo is visually stunning when it comes out- full of shrimp, chicken, tender beef, with bell peppers wrapped in bacon and stuffed with pure goodness. Plus plenty of nopales and bubbling tomatillo to add to your bites. The queso with chorizo is a delicious starter. And you really can't go wrong with any of their specialty drinks! Service was good- a little forgetful but overall very kind and helpful. Oh and- order the churos- even if you're full, they are delicious!!!

Yelp
What absolutely delicious gem of a restaurant! We stopped in for lunch today and got the quesabirria tacos and the chilaquiles with green sauce and carne asada. We shared, and both dishes were fantastic! The sauce on the chilaquiles was very rich and flavorful, standing up well against the eggs and carne asada. The quesabirria tacos were really excellent too -- and I say that as someone who's gotten quesabirria tacos at easily two dozen different restaurants in Tucson. The tortillas were really strong, and had crisped up nicely along the edges. The birria and consommé were both packed with flavor! I savored absolutely every bite. I was also impressed by the beans; I'm usually not a fan of refried beans in general, but these were really well-cooked and well-seasoned. I finished every bit! We sat outside, but I will also say I really liked the decor inside. The colorful paintings on the walls and bright blue and white tiles make for a really charmingly happy vibe!

Eliha I.

Yelp
I had such a great experience at this restaurant! The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out super fast. The whole place has a really welcoming vibe, but I have to give a special shout-out to Rosa, our server. She was so attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed the entire time. Her recommendations were on point too! Definitely coming back -- highly recommend!
google avatar

Denise W.

Yelp
This place serves one of the best chicken enchiladas I have ever had. Delicious green enchilada sauce. Sides of beans and rice were excelente. I will definitely come back and try one something else on the menu.
google avatar

Rebecca I.

Yelp
Best Mexican restaurant in Tucson! Everything from the house margs to the opening salsa is delicious. I am a fan of the seafood Molcajete, but also got the street tacos last time I went and they were just as good. You also can't beat their prices at all and they serve breakfast all day. The service was super fast and the servers are all very nice. Also I love the faux plant wall with neon signs, it's a nice touch. We will be going back many times to come.
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Visited this spot after spending the day at Saguaro National Park and it was good. I'm from LA and don't care to eat Mexican food outside of so cal unless I'm in Mexico but this was really good. I went with a group of 6 and everyone enjoyed their food Birria was pretty good. I got quesabirria with ramen and an extra shrimp quesabirria taco. The shrimp taco was bomb! I dipped it in my soup for some extra juice. Others got fajitas and enchiladas, and they said it was ok. Guac and beans was good. Our server was great and had great recommendations. I'd definitely recommend it.

Pati M.

Yelp
Rosa was very attentive and welcoming. We will be back. Great food and salsa was delicious.
google avatar

Kim M.

Yelp
Once again, an absolutely wonderful meal thanks in large to our amazing server Rosa! We enjoy street tacos and a carne asada burrito along with a fantastic Mezcalita margarita... yum!
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Our food was delicious and our waitress Cassandra was excellent. We are definitely going back often and will ask for Cassandra!
google avatar

Shel B.

Yelp
1st time I tried the chile relleno n it was ok. Second time I tried the quesabirria tacos with rice n beans on side. They were ok. It's like the food needed salt and the salsas needed heat. This is second time here n even mechilada was bland. My husband tried the 3 taco plate. One taco was chicken n one was asada n one was pastor and he said he doesn't ever need to come again. Bummer seeing everyone raves about it but after eating Mexican food all over Cali I've yet to find a mole as good as in Santa Monica on pico blvd.
google avatar

Nelson H.

Yelp
Pretty good foods n services from Amelia Mexican Kitchen, it serves well in service efficient and groom politely... one of the best casual Mexican restaurant in town... Chips were crispy and Carne Asada were tasty and delicious, rices and beans were cooked right on!!!

Val H.

Yelp
Gabe is awesome. Food is fantastic. Loud and festive on a friday night. Chimi was carnitas , chef's kiss! Molcajete was awesome - impressive!

Aharon K.

Yelp
The food was amazing and Gabe was an excellent server! The quesobirria tacos are a must have!

Yelp
This is a nice little restaurant with some great food. The service is top notch. We dined in the outdoor area which was very pleasant. The food has plenty of flavor and the portions are generous. Call ahead to make a reservation as this location can become full fast. I will definitely eat here again in the future.

Yelp
Stopped by today for lunch and was surprised at how busy it was! Super cute in great little spot with indoor and outdoor seating; food was fantastic, service was wonderful, definitely a great little hidden gem
google avatar

Jodi K.

Yelp
This was excellent. It was recommended by our bartender at our hotel. The salsa was delicious. Machacca Breakfast burritos was huge and very good. Jesus was our waiter, he was so nice and explained that Amelia is the name of the owner's grandmother. Looking forward to going here next time we're in Tucson.
google avatar

Mandy T.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on Monday night and were surprised by how busy it was. I requested time between the appetizer and entrees, but the entrees arrived just a couple of minutes after the appetizer. The shrimp ceviche was way too salty, and the Christmas-style sauce on the chicken enchiladas was similarly salty, with the chicken itself overcooked. The steak fajitas were unfortunately inedible--both of us found the steak too fatty and overcooked to even chew, leaving most of the plate untouched. Disappointingly, no one checked in with us about it. The beans and rice were the only good part of the meal. As for drinks, neither the Cadillac nor regular house margaritas were to my taste, but the spicy margarita was enjoyable. The sangria tasted like watered-down red wine without much fruit flavor.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
This is a very popular restaurant, but we were lucky to snag a place at the bar when visiting back in February. Our service was great throughout our meal and we really enjoyed our cocktails (spicy margarita and prickly pear margarita). The chips and salsa were nice and the salsa had a nice kick to it. My wife got the birria tacos, which she loved, and I got mixed fajitas that were delicious. We really enjoyed our meal here and would come back here again in a heartbeat!
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
My partner and I noticed Amelia's when stopping by a nearby business and decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly and seated us promptly. We enjoyed some chips and salsa while deciding what to order. I opted for Shrimp street tacos, and my partner got shrimp enchiladas. The three street tacos was a perfectly sized serving for me, and the dish was flavorful without being salty. My partner enjoyed his enchiladas too. Amelia's has an open, bright interior and is casual. It was busy the whole time we were there. We will go back if in the area.

Yelp
Best dang Quesa Birria, awesome Chile Rillenos, great vibe and Carmen is a great and attentive server!

Yelp
Reviewing: Amelia's Mexican Kitchen Rating: 5 out of 5 Address: 5851 N Oracle Rd Second location: 5553 E Grant Rd Hours: Mon-Thurs: 7-8:30pm / Fri-Sat: 7-9pm / Sun: 8-8pm. Order: 1. Quesabirria Tacos x4 (with caldo): $18.65 2. Horchata: $3.50 (FREE REFILLS!) 3. Burrito Bacado: $10.99 The quesabirria tacos were the best I've ever eaten hands down! No wonder they are award winning! Definitely a must try for sure! Nice little crunch and the meat was super juicy and tender, melt in your mouth type thing. The horchata was absolutely delicious and I was very surprised it was free refills as everywhere else I've been has never had free refills and definitely didn't taste as good either. The breakfast burrito was pretty good as well, definitely filled with all the fixings. Not the best I've had as I personally like my burritos more cooked on the outside for that crisp texture but it was pretty good. The waitress was very nice and pleasant and checked on us a few times which was nice. She did her job well. Definitely left a tip for her. I will definitely be returning soon!
