Hate to do this ('cuz i used to LOVE Amelie's!), but at least at THIS location, it's gotten from bad to worse...
On our most recent outing (about 2 weeks ago?), I was near repulsed while there...and here's why.
For one, it happened to be crowded...yet they closed the upstairs floor (?!?)...so people were basically squeezed in downstairs (see picture). This tight space/setting did not make for a nice, relaxing ambiance...to say the least.
Also, few chairs that were available downstairs were misplaced, and the tables were dirty (do the staff members ever bus these tables??). Despite their fun, kitschy decor, the place just looked really bad. Also, I know they're kind of going for that grungy look in a way, but the tables and chairs just look dilapidated.
Most importantly, what happened to some of these bakery items?!? I usually get their fruity tarts...and they used to be quite good. Not anymore. The tarts were just super-sticky (cheap Snick Bars came to mind!), and even missing Kiwi...so just Strawberries and Blueberries on both large and small sizes. Then this Red Velvet Cheesecake...UGGGH!!! SO ridiculously thick and sticky...which equates to YUCKY for me!
Also, just like last time, they can't even make Latte Art (and this is a coffee bar?!?)...let alone a nice, simple Latte without spilling gunk all over! Just look at my over-filled, artless Green Tea Latte...and tasted weak as well! Terrible!!
Honestly, it was THE worst Amelie's experience I've had to date. This is supposedly an authentic French bakery...and I just expect better than this. I'm hoping that at least the other Amelie's locations are better...as in cleaner tables, and lighter-fluffier pastries. I mean, what's up with all the thickness-stickiness?? Based on this and previous experience, I feel that Amelie's have totally gone downhill...as in no quality control.
I seriously wonder if I'll ever return to Amelie's...at least to this one.
