American Express's Newest Centurion Lounge Is Opening at JFK

"The Centurion Lounge at New York JFK will include features such as a speakeasy-style bar, wellness programming from Equinox, and art inspired by New York City. Chef Ignacio Mattos will oversee the menus, and the lounge will offer amenities like an Equinox Body Lab for pre-flight relaxation. Amid COVID-19, new cleanliness guidelines are being implemented for guest safety."

I visited the lounge on February 28th, Friday morning. I had heard great things about it, and I think they lived up to the hype. The hot breakfast was delicious, and they even started serving lunch while I was there, so I got to try both breakfast and lunch. One of the coolest things about the lounge is the cafe and bar area. They have freshly made pastries and croissants that are buttery and crispy, and they also have a juice shot and chia seed pudding. The baristas make a fancy espresso drink with latte art, which was a hit with me since I’m a big cafe latte fan. The cafe latte at the airport is always over $6 in a paper cup, but here I could have it in a nice coffee cup. They also have auto espresso machines for cafe lattes, but it’s not the same, so I didn’t mind waiting in line. The cafe has a great vibe, and the workers were busy but very attentive. They even have a special machine for a cafe latte that says “Thank you” (check my pictures). Even though the new policy has changed, it was still pretty crowded, but we booked through the app before we got there, so we didn’t have to wait in line. Because of the new policy, no more big families rush to the lounge and grab food within 30 minutes anymore. Lol I don’t mind paying $50 as a guest because of the quality of food and drinks, as well as the cozy sitting area. Some lounges don’t provide great customer service, but this one did, so I was pleased. I’d love to come back here for dinner to see what they have for dinner. The lounge was very spacious with so many tables, chairs, and couches.

I opposed the guest fee for my wife when it was instituted, but I've changed my tune. I enjoy the ambience now. Fewer guests, more quality seating, better service. I've seen the club overwhelmed in the past - and all that goes with that. Today, however, the food and wine were superb. The speakeasy was relaxing and the bar tender was engaging and knowledgeable about the wines and cocktails offered. Altogether a great experience for my wife and me. I give the club a solid A+.

I visited the lounge on a Saturday for a morning Delta flight and the lounge did not have a lot of people and didn’t feel very crowded. The staff at the coffee/smoothie bar were very friendly and offered their recommendation of smoothies. The food was good quality and there was a lot of seating on both floors. The lounge is past TSA to the left near the Chase Sapphire lounge. Definitely worth visiting if you have access.

Amex Centurion Lounge JFK Review The Centurion Lounge at JFK is a cocktail lover’s dream. The “1850” speakeasy bar serves stellar drinks like the espresso martini, crafted by skilled bartenders in a cool 1920s vibe. The complimentary cocktail menu shines. Food, however, is just okay—chef Ignacio Mattos’ buffet has variety (steak, salads), but small portions and low trays during peak times disappoint. Stylish lounge, but can get crowded. Go for the drinks, not the food.

One of the busiest lounge I have been next to Schipol, probably since it is located inside a big international airport. The staff doesn’t seem happy at all to serve on this lounge. I got discriminated at the reception too and asked for additional ID to prove I am the account holder of my AMEX platinum which is very unusual… They have a few choices of hot food and drinks at the bar but again you’ll have to deal with unhappy staff. I don’t recommend this lounge. Find another lounge if you could.

I’ve visited the Centurion Lounge at JFK about four times last year, often arriving on early flights and working from the lounge. Unlike some other lounges, I was never asked to leave after a few hours, which is incredibly convenient. The food is consistently delicious, with enough variety to satisfy any palate, and the drinks are top-notch—especially at the 1850 Speakeasy, which adds a fun, upscale vibe. The lounge itself is spacious and well-designed, with clean, well-maintained bathrooms that are a welcome luxury during travel. Overall, the Centurion Lounge at JFK stands out for its comfort, excellent service, and reliable amenities. It’s definitely a must-visit for anyone passing through JFK!

My husband and I stopped by early on a weekday morning, and it was quiet with many tables available, likely due to the time. I loved the snack bar area where you can grab craft coffee and immune shots. Unfortunately, the speakeasy bar didn’t have much available, but I was able to enjoy a mimosa. Overall, I prefer the JFK location over the SFO one due to its wider selection of options.

The lounge is really nice and offers a spacious area. The shower is available until 7 PM, so make sure to use it before then. The bar and café are the main highlights of the lounge. If you're starting your journey from JFK, you can access the lounge 3 hours before your flight. If you're in transit, as I was, you can enter as soon as you arrive at the airport (I entered 6 hours before my flight). The same applies to the Delta lounge.
