The Millennial Urge to Buy American Girl’s New Pizza Hut-Themed Toy Set | Eater

"A long‑running doll company has released two 1999‑themed historical‑collection dolls whose accessories intentionally act as a concentrated '90s time capsule: a bulky desktop computer with a green alien coffee mug, a purple inflatable chair with a CD player, and a $32 themed toy set that recreates a personal‑pan pepperoni pizza in an era‑accurate paper box with faux Parmesan and red‑pepper shakers, a miniature craggy red plastic soda cup, a replica '90s pin, and a 'free pizza' certificate referencing the BOOK IT! reading program. The launch is positioned both as a nostalgic throwback for adults and as an educational tool to teach younger kids about late‑'90s American childhood culture." - Bettina Makalintal

This store is a little girls dream! My daughter loves shopping here. The staff is so wonderful. The salon is our favorite. Great prices and Charity is wonderful! We love eating at the cafe the food is so delicious. Store is a lot smaller but shopping during the week is better.

I took my niece for her birthday and the entire experience was phenomenal! We went on a Monday morning. I did not make any reservations. We were helped finding a doll that looked like her. Then went to the cafe, where they were able to squeeze us in, and the food was top notch! The service was wonderful as well.

Google
Had THE most wonderful birthday party for our daughter here. Antonio and Tia were FANTASTIC hosts for our party. I will always request them in the future!! This is the first time we’ve been able to just show up at a birthday without the hassle of decorating or bringing a cake or party favors. It is very much worth the pretty penny - highly recommend their private party rooms!

Google
It was the best experience!! The service is super good, nice, and they treated us very well:) We bought a pack of ice cream for only $28 and it was on sale. We had lunch at the cafe and everything was delicious. I definitely recommend it! 10/10💕

Google
Nice little shop. Really busy and crowded for such a tiny store. Service in the shopping area left much to be desired. Recommend reservations for the restaurant. They did run late seating and getting served, but our server was amazing.

The Best Day Ever at the American Girl Store! We had the best time at the American Girl Doll Store in the Galleria! My nieces came to town, and I got to take them to the store to pick out their dolls. They were so happy, and we had so much fun looking around. My littlest niece hugged my neck so tight, it made me want to cry happy tears. It was a moment I’ll never forget. Thank you, American Girl Store, for helping us make such a special memory. We’ll be back again for sure!

Our experience with the American girl tea party celebration was absolutely incredible, in large part due to the extraordinary work of Elizabeth. She went above and beyond to make the celebration special, and it was the best day a 5 year old could have asked for as result. From the sparkly drinks, to the set up for the dolls, to the cake & more, thank you so much to the team at the American Girl doll store in Dallas, especially Elizabeth, for a really wonderful time. We can’t wait to be back!

Google
This is an excellent place to take your children if they’re into dolls. You can even dine in with your dolls! They have special chairs designed for dolls. Additionally, they offer nail and hair salons for your dolls. Kids can also get their princess makeup done and get dressed at the salon. The birthday party room is also amazing.

Yelp
We came in bringing our girls into the store to shop and a few big things stood out. We are long time American Girl fans & have quite a collection but never have we had personal service as intentional, genuine, and caring as we this day. The woman who helped us said she was a retired teacher. Her name is Kristie. She told my daughters that her best friends call her "Birdy" so thats what they got to call her which made them feel special. This was our first time in the Dallas store and she walked us through, gave us a tour, gave my daughters some doll history we didnt even know! She also helped us carrying our items and learned about our family. Eye contact, cheerful, and made my girls feel so comfortable about being enthusiastic about dolls and collecting even at their age. My youngest felt so seen. Birdy elevated our experience on a different level. Another thing was sadly it was too warm in the store. We know its June but goodness. We all were very hot and though the upstairs was hot, downstairs was more comfortable but barely. Also, there was a stench upstairs smelling like the toilets were off gassing or exhaust was venting from the bathrooms leaving a bowel movement odor. That needs to be looked at seriously. We didnt stay for lunch because of that.

Yelp
An amazing time was had! We went to celebrate my daughter's 7th birthday and she loved every min of her experience. I would strongly suggest scheduling any salon or dining options ahead of time. The shelves were fully stocked and the value was as expected. We're planning our next visit already!

Yelp
We brought my daughter to Dallas to get her a doll for her 10th bday. She was so excited and the store is really nice, the employees are really nice, if not a little smug. The dolls are amazing. Why the low ratings? These dolls are made in China! American Girl dolls are made in China, very deceptive, but I guess it works for them. Then for the birthday girl, they have a very dull and cheap sticker. We have to buy them a birthday cookie! lol I guess they should squeeze out everything they can out of the American buying public. Pathetic. We did buy the doll. I'm not going to mess up her birthday for this but I would like to make it clear, these are NOT MADE in AMERICA they are MADE IN CHINA

Yelp
What a perfect day with my daughter in law and granddaughter! We started off with lunch at the cafe! What a deal is was for the price. The table was beautifully set and had a high chair for my granddaughter's doll which was so exciting to her. We started with warm, fresh and delicious cinnamon rolls. Next the 3 tiered appetizer tray came out. All delicious! We then were able to choose our entrees. And finally for dessert, a small chocolate mousse flower pot! All of the staff at the Cafe were friendly, attentive and helpful. My granddaughter was so thrilled with the doll's tea cup that she got to keep. Next we were off to shop. Oh my! So many dolls and accessories. Be prepared to set a limit! I reserved a Salon experience so my granddaughter could get her and her doll's hair fixed alike. This was also a wonderful experience as she was able to watch her doll get a hairdo as well! We made so many wonderful memories! I plan to go back next time I'm in Texas!

Yelp
Kristie was AMAZING. She was so helpful, engaging and communicative with us! It was my girls first time visiting and she definitely made it worth it. The cafè staff on the other hand could use some retraining. They were rude, quick to speak without much explanation, and were lacking professionalism. We arrived early for a tea reservation, and rather than kindly explain the situation, we were ignored and left to question what was occurring.

Yelp
My daughter fell in love with this limited edition doll named Boots. She goes everywhere with her. I can see why she's got a picture in the hall of fame.

Yelp
Having raised 2 sons I never had a need to visit the American Girl store. Thank goodness for granddaughters! As a special holiday treat for my two granddaughters aged 10 and 6, we had an appointment for a visit to the salon for their dolls and then lunch at the bistro in mid-December. As we dropped off the dolls there was an option to get their ears pierced, which we agreed to and then made selections on the type of hairstyle for them. While the dolls were enjoying "spa day" we went shopping in the store. The displays are over the top. It's no surprise that the girls found many items that they wanted. When it was nearing our lunch reservation time, we picked up the girls from the salon and loved their new look. They are truly miracle workers. I'll post a "before" pic of one of the dolls hair. Apparently they only use water and a wire brush to work on the doll's hair. We picked up a booster seat for the dolls and were shown to our table. After the dolls and everyone was settled, we made our food selections. The food served was so adorable and delicious! Well worth the $25 per person charge. I ordered the salad with chicken breast and it was huge! We visited the restroom on our way out and even the bathroom stalls are equipped with special hooks to hold the dolls. They've truly thought of everything. We had a wonderful experience making memories with the girls and their dolls. We learned that this Galleria store will be closing and the AG store will be moving to North Park Mall. I'm not sure of the timing on this.

Yelp
Drove up for daughter to do a special visit for her birthday. Did the historic birthday teatime. Tea was okay just regular bagged tea but the dessert and sandwhich plates were awful. Everything stale, old rotting chocolate covered strawberries. Stale sandwhiches with meat that looked like it had been sitting out chilled for days. Treats were very processed tasting and made you feel sick from the unnatural flavors. Would avoid the bistro. It did make good pictures but food was inedible and sorely overpriced at $50 pp. she did get cup and saucer to take home with her dolls. Also an AGD coloring book and colored pencils. The only activity was a box of jokes and questions to tell. No history theme to it do not sure the difference from regular tea party. Then both her dolls got to go to the salon to get their hair styled. I felt this was worth it and lots of effort by the stylist. Cute store with lots of displays and some photo ops. However the toys were inaccessible so kids couldn't play or sample. Felt more like a museum than a toy store. No seating for parents either. Daughter picked out kitchen she had wanted from seeing it in the catalog and they put the box in our vehicle. It was very expensive for size and what it was. This is a special occasion kinda place and wouldn't shop her regularly. Staff very friendly and down to earth.

Allison C.

Yelp
I have gotten three of these dolls! I love them so much! There is all types of dolls to pick out of! You could have curly hair to straight hair! Of course the staff was very nice and had great attitudes! The bistro was mostly pleasant. Only thing was we had to wait a bit. But every time I have gone there we always get the limited addition stuff. The price is pretty expensive for a doll. But I enjoy the selection of the accessories. They practically have everything!
google avatar

Diana R.

Yelp
Beautiful setting and selection of merchandise had full displays to highlight different themes. Cashier was not friendly and Commented she thought everything was too expensive for her tastes, but other than that sour note we had a wonderful time. Yea it is pricey but if you can't afford it don't shop there, and if that girl Doesn't like Working there maybe she should seek work Elsewhere!!The tea was the most Wonderful experience for my grown daughter who had an American girl Doll growing up and passed then It on To her daughter ! The set up was gorgeous, sandwiches and desserts were fabulously delicious and we had a marvelous time !

Yelp
While my daughter and I LOVE American Girl, this store doesn't always live up to our expectations. It's beautifully merchandised but too many things are encased which doesn't allow for much interaction. Staff are nothing short of friendly in the bistro and in the store itself but I've been a little disappointed with the salon. Drop off is great! Staff are friendly and helpful but the last few times I've picked up the doll from the salon, I've had to wait for longer than I felt necessary and even the last time I was there, I was ignored and then treated as if I was a hindrance by the staff person. I was first ignored 3 times then when I asked about picking up my doll she said "uh, yeah I guess". I sincerely hope this person was just having a bad moment and this isn't how most people are treated. This store should be a fun magical experience and it doesn't always live up to that. I think my biggest complaint would be the size of the store. It's very hard to move around especially when there are a lot of people shopping. It's difficult to move around and really see everything. You feel like you're in everyone's way. I'd like to see this tore expand a little to make the experience a little better.
google avatar

Sherry S.

Yelp
Ok... the problem is I've been to several AG stores. This one did not have the magic and I will tell you why; the staff. Only one of them was pleasant and she was probably retired and working part-time. The rest of them really did not appear like they wanted us in the store. We live in Idaho so AG is not a daily stop. We got there a few minutes late and the staff was closing up the restaurant. I get they have a schedule and they were in cleanup mode, but I had a 10 year old that simply wanted to experience the magic. They didn't even let her peek into the restaurant. A is my foster child and had never been to an AG store. She left grossly disappointed. We didn't buy anything because we felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome. I was at AG in Chicago in June of last year and it was outstanding. They were so friendly. I wish this 10 year old could have had a similar experience. Instead she was met with a staff person telling her to not run on the stairs. She was then told to not play in the elevator. Truth is we don't have an elevator where we live. Our kids love this simple pleasure. Her joy of running up and down the stairs was she was joyfully telling me which books she had read. We were in Dallas for her birthday trip. Her wish was to go to the eclipse. This AG store did not bring us joy.

Yelp
We wanted to say thank you especially for all the kindness and love shown by staff - shout out to ERICA on my daughter having medical issues and requesting help on returning items purchased on line and in the store this past week. We went late and Erica literally told us 'step back i've got this' and handled 4 large boxes out of our car into the store and graciously helped my daughter walk thru the process of returning and refunding items. The items were excellent. She was the ultimate human being showing kind, consideration and warmth at such a difficult time. True value of the store shines through the employees - I had a quick question this morning, stopping by and 2 other staff with Erica answered and assured me also giving so much grace. More stores could benefit from this staff and we will return as soon as possible to support them - we love our Park Lane location. Thank you Erica and American Girl.

Allie Y.

Yelp
how can we go to Dallas & not stop at the AG store?! also, this is the last month in the Galleria before they move to The Shops At Park Lane in March 2024!!!! my daughter enjoyed roaming around the store here - I did feel like this store was smaller than the one in DC. we'll have to check out the new store next time we're in Dallas. we were looking for a certain chair that American Girl online was showing as in stock, but when we got there, it was sold out. a bit disappointing for the child, but she really fell in love with coconut (the dog). she ended up getting coconut & the coconut pillow on sale. thankfully they had some pillows still in the plastic wrap & some were even vacuum sealed (which helps since we were traveling). can't wait to see the new store!

Yelp
Great, friendly, personal service at the Bistro. We celebrated my 9 year old daughter's birthday by reserving the birthday Deluxe party package with the meal for my family of 5. Food was okay but went into it knowing we were paying for the experience. They allow you to borrow a doll and doll seat during the meal if you didn't bring yours. Totally worth it for a huge American Girl doll fan such as my daughter.
google avatar

Valerie W.

Yelp
This is a horrible experience compared to the Galleria location. It's crammed in a corner next to stores that are not the same quality as AG. I would never book a party room here. Only good thing was the food was better. It was very difficult to shop the lower levels with people waiting for the cafe and their party rooms. The parking lot /trash smells leak through the back part of the store. This no longer feels like an experience for the girl but a pink washed Walmart.
google avatar

Amber N.

Yelp
If you're bringing your daughter in for the experience itself then it's a pretty decent experience. My daughter is six but bc the service was slow she lost interest. I had my mother in law joining as well and same for her, she lost interest due to slow service. We had to make reservations and got there an hour early, we were seated about 15 min from our reservation time and had a salon visit shortly after the lunch was to end. Glad we were early because it would've run into the salon time. We ordered the lunch menu for everyone, which for $25 per person, you get sodas, tea, coffee included with the appetizer shown, your choices for lunch is this salad, a burger and honestly I don't remember what else but other items not worth $25 per person, and the dessert choice was ice cream I believe with Oreos crunched on top but I had upgraded to this cake for my daughters birthday. The food was just OK but again I figured this, and just paid for the experience. Her experience was sheer boredom because although it wasn't packed it took to long to get everything. The salad tasted good but I've had better. She didn't touch her chicken strips but I believe it had more to do with being full off other things she had prior. The cake tasted ok, it wasn't moist but it was actually a pretty nice size cake. The icing was pretty good and not too sweet. We would probably never do the bistro again unless we were just doing certain menu items like drinks or dessert but again this was done just for the experience.

Yelp
This place is a little girls dream come true! Okay, I admit, maybe mine too! The staff was so wonderful and made my daughters day as they did her doll's hair in front of her.
google avatar

DiAndra H.

Yelp
This place will make you rethink dolls as a whole but I love it! My daughter and niece have at least 6 a piece with accessories! They have dolls from all different backgrounds, just wish the African American dolls had straight hair, we don't always or all of us have kinky curly hair.. otherwise it's a nice place to come to and a little girls theme park
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Went shopping with my wife for our grandchildren who live near Houston ; very busy store with many female dolls roughly 2 feet tall with many accessories; very courteous staff just a little bit north and west of the Dallas Galleria. I wish there was a store with a similar concept geared for young boys. That would be some really cool G. I .Joe type stuff; but I guess that's not very PC nowadays.

Yelp
We took my niece here for her 6th birthday and just seeing her face as we walked in made the drive worth it! It's a big, bright, beautiful store. A little wonderland for doll-lovers. I used to LOVE flipping through American Girl doll catalogues (I had Samantha and read all the books!), and so visiting this store was like bringing those magazines and a little bit of my childhood to life. I LOVE NOSTALGIA. All the tiny adorable doll trinkets and outfits and the stories they give the characters make me happy. Honestly, though, everything is so overpriced. A plastic bathtub for your doll shouldn't be $60.. what!? Tiny pieces of plastic pumpkin and apple pie with little cookbooks and pie-plates shouldn't be $35. Buuuuut, oh well. It's still a magical experience, even for me as a 31 year old. We picked out a doll that looked just like my niece for her. Then we got them matching pajamas, that damn bathtub, some headbands, and a little miniature doll for my niece's little sister. Can't leave her out! PS: They need more staff here, I think. There's a ton of people walking around browsing and I had like twenty questions, but there wasn't enough staff to help since the line at the register was so long!

Yelp
This is our second visit for dining in to the AG Dallas store. This experience I solely based on todays visit but we have a very similar experience in the bistro a few weeks back. Today we were in a private room. Our server was kind but didn't not seem excited to be there. You could hardly hear her speak and engagement of party guest was ehhhhhh. Service we exxxxtremly slow. ( this is what we experienced in the bistro as well ) We waited very long between corses. Food was okay. Definitely not with the price. The server told us when we were done the manager would come deliver the bill. After about 15/20 min the manger came out. She was wearing a very dirty white apron. It was more bizarre than anything and to be honest kind of gross. I don't think it is worth the cost and I wouldn't recommend this as a party experience. Long story short: Salon is amazing and service below is always awesome! Everyone is very helpful. Bistro and private room wouldn't recommend. Overall just a really ehhhh experience and not worth the cost in the least.

Yelp
The service was great. They were very very helpful. The store itself is gorgeous and very big ! Their bistro is beautiful! Loved everything about it!

Yelp
My wife, daughter and two granddaughters had lunch at the AG Dallas restaurant today. First, they were seated 40 minutes AFTER their reservation...which is terrible when you have young children who are hungry. The service was incredibly slow and their waitress actually left the store and nobody helped them to get checked out. Another waitress replied "it's not my station so I can't help you". They had to find a manager to get checked out. The food was poor -- the lettuce served on my wife's salad was brown, wilted, and moldy. Seriously - a terrible experience and nobody seemed to care at the restaurant.

Misty T.

Yelp
So disappointing. We brought our daughters doll into the store to be shipped to the doll hospital for a new head and new torso. it was shipped to our home and the wig looks terrible. Tangled and ratty. We contacted customer service and they had us mail it back. We just received it again and the wig Is still nasty looking. We expected to get a new head with new wig. Paid way too much money for an old refurbished wig that was haphazardly tucked up into a hair net

Yelp
We LOVE the American Girl Store. This review is based on our experience in the Bistro this time around. Jordan our server was great and the hostess seated us right away for our reservation. Our starter took a bit to come out and the pretzel balls were pretty terrible, extremely very dry and hard. Then it took more than 45 minutes at the point for our burger and Mac and cheese to come out. The burger was burnt and cold and very unappetizing. We love coming here the day after Christmas every year and drive in from Oklahoma just for this experience with our little girl. Disappointed with this visit.

Anthony G.

Yelp
I'm not gonna lie... I expected something way worse and way more expensive. We visited during a school week with two little girls. My only hold back here is the food took waaaaay to long for being one of three tables present. Overall the food was good and not expensive. $15 for an app and an entree is pretty good in my opinion. The Caesar salad was actually really good and tasty. The mozzarella sticks are hard to mess up. They take really good attention to little girls and their dolls.

Yelp
This review is for the bistro section of the store. We visited on a weekend as a "girl's day out" for my child. The website encourages bistro reservations online. However, I had overlooked that part, and I believe the Head Chef who was manning the hostess counter allowed us to book a brunch; we just had to wait 30 minutes. THANK YOU, CHEF for accommodating us!! Not a problem, the store itself was enough to keep us occupied for more than 30 minutes. My child was allowed to borrow her doll of choice to sit and join us for our brunch. Once seated, I noticed the table was decked out in pink accessories and accents. Our lovely server explained the bowed hair tie that was used to hold the fabric napkin was ours to take home. Also, she brought a miniature AG tea cup and saucer for the very little one in our party (the doll), and she said that we could bring the tea cup and saucer home as well, much to the delight of my child. After she took our orders, we noticed there was a little box filled with strips of paper. We each pulled a strip out and saw each piece was a conversation starter. How quaint! We kept asking each other questions back and forth. Our brunch started out with cinnamon rolls which were warm with melted cream cheese icing. Our meals were well presented and the toast shaped into hearts. Very cute and appealing for any child. The service staff was good and well attentive to us. We were very happy with our dining experience. I'll remember to make reservations for our next visit and would enjoy experiencing Afternoon Tea at this location.

Yelp
Don't waste your money going to the bistro. It's DISGUSTING. It took 25 minutes to get the appetizer. Grapes were brown, my kids didn't touch them or the veggies. The spinach and artichoke dip was AWFUL. Got the salad after 45 minutes. Most of the lettuce had brown spots and bug holes. Menu had only one choice for appetizer and dessert unless you wanted to pay extra on top of the $25 set menu. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING WORTH THE MONEY. Pre-pandemic menu and food was soooo much better. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED AND WON'T GO BACK.
google avatar

Brandy B.

Yelp
We are definitely regulars here and it is always a great experience. The store is very well maintained. Everything is clean and stocked almost to perfection. There are plenty of friendly staff members on hand to assist. The way the dolls and merchandise are displayed is fantastic. There is a doll hair salon and party rooms, along with a bistro, upstairs. The food at the bistro is pretty good. The only bad thing is that it can be hard to get in so you have to make a reservation in advance. When dining, they do allow you to take home some pretty fun accessories for your child's doll. If your child doesn't have a doll, they have some on hand to lend while dining. We also enjoy how the location offers classes, such as cake decorating. There are a variety of fun events and activities planned throughout the year. It's a wonderful place to celebrate with your child. Seriously, it's a dream.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! All three of our girls had the best time picking out their American girl dolls and accessories but what really put it over the top was the awesome service from Kenneth! He went above and beyond to make sure the whole experience was lovely!
google avatar

Lacey W.

Yelp
This was our first visit to the AG store and bistro. After reading many reviews, I was skeptical of the food and service, but we had a wonderful experience! We booked a 10:00 brunch via phone and the customer service lady was very friendly and helpful. We arrived at 9:50 and our party of 6 was seated immediately. Although service was not the speediest, our server was friendly and accommodating to our table. We were able to enjoy our time with our girls and play with the dolls that we brought. We used the conversation starters on the table and laughed together. Our brunches were good, much better than anticipated! It was not Five Star quality, but tasty, especially for a bistro geared for children. The whole experience from start to finish made lasting memories for us! We will certainly return.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
The store itself is a little girl's dream. Anyone who knows anything about American Girl doesn't walk into this store doesn't expect to pinch pennies when buying a doll or accessories. The salon is a fun experience! My daughters love having their girls hair done and the salon employee is always friendly. My only complaint would be the restaurant side. I know you're paying for the "experience" but it's honestly not worth it. Save your money and go somewhere else. You won't walk away even thinking "that was good". The service is always slower than a snail's race and the quality is Luby's at best. The portions are SMALL and while the place settings and high chairs for the dolls is cute, just don't do it.
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
This was a fun day! The store is gorgeous & clean and the staff was kind. My 9 year old daughter came to pick out her first doll. My 10 year old niece joined us with her two dolls and also my 5 year old son. My daughter made her selection & we went upstairs for a bistro reservation. They offered a "loaner" doll to my son which was really sweet & resulted in an additional doll purchase! I didn't know there where boy dolls (they sell the bitty twins separately). The food was really really really good! Best artichoke dip I've ever had!! Great salad, kids cleaned their plates of tenders, pizza & fruits. Super good! Great experience! Thanks for a fun day!! The kids played happily in their seats with their dolls on the 3 hour ride back home. Great investment.

Yelp
December 2020 - Because of Covid we rented a private birthday room for our daughter's 6th birthday. Although it was only our family of 5 we were still treated like a birthday group and had a hostess that played games with us and made sure to address our every need. The girls received crafts (making masks for their dolls) and their dolls each had a place setting and high hair. The food was delicious and filling. The space was clean and inviting. The only thing I might have done differently would be the cake. It was beautiful but taste wise us three adults didn't care for it. My younger kids didn't seem to mind. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
When my 5 year old announced she was giving up her shopkins obsession for American Girl I did a happy dance. While way more expensive to collect, American Girl dolls & accessories were something (unlike shopkins) that her little brothers couldn't choke on. And I'll admit that I've always been a bit enamored with American Girl dolls myself. They became popular when I was just a little too old for them...and I always felt like I missed out on my very own Samantha doll. Sigh.. From a marketer's perspective the store is genius & I've watched for many years while little girls walk the streets of Michigan Avenue with their dolls in matching outfits and hairstyles (that cost the same price as my blowouts). And now I have one of those little girls who doesn't leave home without one of her AG dolls & catalogues. We had just visited the American Girl store in Chicago and enjoyed a lovely tea, shopping experience and the dolls even got her hair styled (upside down fishtail for those interested) & ears pierced. However, when my daughter discovered that there was yet another American Girl store in Dallas she just had to check it out. Her grandmother not only agreed to take her, but also said she'd buy her the AG itty bitty twins, which my daughter refers to as the "toddlers." We arrived in Dallas and I was ready to head to a park & soak in some much needed sunshine, but the only thing on my daugther's mind was the AG store. Fortunately, it was just a few minutes away from my in-laws. For those wondering it's adjacent to the Galleria mall, although actually in it's very own building. While not quite as large as the Chicago store, it's still pretty impressive. Everything you can purchase is on the first floor and then you can take the escalator, my 3 year old son's favorite part of the store, up to the cafe and salon. Since we had just had tea and gotten the doll's hair done 2 days prior we skipped the 2nd floor and shopped on the first floor. My daughter was thrilled to see (yet again) all the items in her favorite catalogue come to life...and took home her very own blonde itty bitty twins, which she now fondly calls Eden and Aiden. There weren't many people in the store on a Thursday afternoon so we received lots of attention from the sales associates. In Chicago there always seems to be a line to purchase something no matter the day. After twice in one week I've had my fair share of American Girl doll, but have no doubt we'll be visiting this location again during future trips to Dallas.

Yelp
I wanted to share an update that, shortly after my review, I was contacted by a lovely woman from AG corporate who took the time to listen to all of my feedback, apologized for the bumps in our time there and was very generous in making gestures to compensate for our disappointing experience. I know this is a difficult time in the retail/ restaurant industries, but it was heartening to know that there are professionals who care deeply about preserving the reputation of this iconic brand and are being proactive in improving the customer experience.

Yelp
The store itself and the services provided for dolls at the salon were great! You have to make an appointment tho!! Lots of fun for the girls! BUT the bistro experience was nothing like we expected. We made reservations for a birthday experience for a 7 year old. We were sat 30 minutes after reservation, and then no one approached us to ask for our drink order for about 20 minutes. Portions are fine for children but not for the adults paying for them. It took forever to get our food. They didn't have a cake for the birthday girl because their vendor didn't deliver them that day. This is after we had already watched 4 tables get a happy birthday song and served their birthday cakes. So I guess they ran out? Even though reservations were made? Food was as good as a hospital cafeteria, but portioned small on minimalist plates which suggest a higher quality. I felt for the server. It seemed like she had too many tables/responsibilities to handle while also providing the best service she could. She was apologetic and we could tell it wasn't because of a lack of effort on her part. I'm a manager in the retail/service industry so I understand the challenges businesses are facing right now as far as payroll AND finding capable employees. I would hope Post-Covid is to blame, but I haven't seen another business of this size obviously struggling like this one. They should rethink the bistro part of the business. All the young girls care about is the store and the experience.

Yelp
After a negative experience last year, that I would have only given 1 star to, we decided to give the store another chance after they opened again from covid closings. We decided to take my niece and kids to the store for niece's birthday to eat and for a shopping trip. We had made reservations to eat and for hair to be done on 2 dolls. When we got there it was MUCH better this time. When we got there we were greeted. Being it was after covid displays were now covered in Plexiglas or the little toys were pulled from displays. The kids shopped around and found what they wanted to buy. While shopping around it was time to take the two dolls up to the salon to get their hair done. I was happy to see there was a hearing impaired young lady working in the salon! She was able to help us figure out what styles we wanted. We left the dolls and it was time to eat. Even though we didn't do a party package the waitress gave my niece a cupcake and we all sang happy birthday to her. The waitress was super friendly. Even giving the kids each a little goody bag before we left, after giving them each a place setting for their dolls, as well as 2 extra place settings for the two dolls at the salon. I subtracted 1 point for the reason of the price of the bistro there. At Mall of America, Kansas City, and Houston you were able to order everything separately; appetizer, drink, meal, and dessert. But at Dallas you are forced to order all together for a higher price tag. One appetizer would have been fine for our table, but we had to order 5. I don't drink soda or tea, but I had to pay for a drink when I just ordered water. The meal with tips and tax for 5 was $90. While when we were in Houston, it was just 4 of us, was only around $50. We finished shopping the lady at the check out was friendly and very helpful. She let us buy 3 of the purchase with a purchase, one for each kid. She even put each of the kids' items in their own bag to carry out. The kids were super happy and had a great time. We also went back a month later just to shop around. Once again super friendly staff welcoming us. We needed some ear piercing, but I hadn't made an appointment for that. They were able to get all 3 dolls done with no issues. My daughter noticed the nail-polish for sale at the salon, and they were kind enough to sell us one of each color. An employee asked the kids if they were looking for something specif and helped them find it. Super friendly staff at the check out again. A friend had wanted the last P&P but my daughter wanted the current one. The employee was kind enough to sell me the current one for the P&P price and I was able to get the other at regular price for my friend since we hadn't spend enough to get two. I had was talking to some staff at the door before leaving and told them about the experience we had last year and how the last two had been what we expected for an American Girl store. The manager had heard us talking and came over and we had a little chat and she was super kind about it all. And apologized about what happened before.

Yelp
We parked in the orange garage and head to the west side. There's a purple garage marked American Girl though. We ate at the Bistro. A quarter of the tables were empty but it was a 20 minute wait with a reservation. The food was ok. The salmon was actually pretty good and the fruit fondue. The artichoke dip was awful. All and all a cute place with nice decor. Just understaffed and crowded. The hair salon had three people working and a 5 hour wait. This place is printing money. They need more staff.

Yelp
Came here because my daughter wanted an American Girl doll. That portion of the store is excellent. The Bistro SHOULD BE AVOIDED at all costs. Take the $75 out of your wallet that you would normally spend on your family of 4, and set it on fire. This experience will still be more fulfilling than the subpar food, service, and atmosphere of this place. Hamburger was tiny, chicken sandwich was cold, cheese sticks were hard, the "best chicken strips ever" were gas station quality Tyson strips, and the spinach dip was nothing more than salted cream cheese with bread crumbs on top. Save your hard-earned money and have a quality meal elsewhere.

Yelp
My husband and I had a birthday party for our kiddo and it was amazing. The staff was fantastic! They paid attention to all of our needs and made the birthday girl feel special. I would highly recommend having a birthday at the Dallas store or simply taking your kiddo there for lunch. Its girl heaven!

Yelp
For a $300 luncheon for 7 girls and 2 adults I felt the experience was lack luster. From the greeting at desk, to welcoming the guests. Service was ok at best. Staff was friendly but there was nothing above and beyond for such an expensive experience. Food was tasty and well presented but other than that nothing special for a girls birthday and for the cost. To be honest I would not recommend a birthday experience here at the bistro. I would have been better off letting the girls play and giving them each a $15-$30 gift card to spend at the store. It would have been more fun and less costly. The only special thing given to the birthday girl was a paper tiara and sprinkles on her ice cream? Really? No discount at the store, nothing truly special for her? (We also went on to buy the hotel as a gift) so we were willing to spend the money but I expected A LOT more. I sent this feedback to the store, I will update if I get a response. Update: the very next day after my review and sending feedback to the store the manager called. She listened, apologized AND is sending a special gift for my daughter. She did other things as well to compensate for the experience. With this being said her customer service and "go above and beyond" attitude leads me to believe that next a birthday party rolls around it will get the attention it deserves. It doesn't change our experience but as a business owner I can appreciate how the manager handled things, and definitely went above and beyond what I would have expected!! Thank you Sarah!!

Yelp
Four stars for the retail store. It was great. Good sales after Christmas. 1 star for dining. 1 hour and 15 minutes after sitting down we got our appetizer. Appetizer was cold. 30 minutes later we got food. They comped 1 of 3 meals and offered free desert. Desert brought at 3 different times. At the 2 hour and five minute mark we left without getting the third desert. A table next to us turned over twice during our visit. One behind us also turned over twice. Won't eat here again. Skip the bistro

Yelp
This is my favorite American Girl store ever! I've been to a ton of them including NYC & Chicago's locations.. but this one takes the cake. I feel like the Dallas location is much bigger and has way more selection. Employees are very friendly here. (Except in the hair salon, lol) Our stellar 5-star experience really came from dining up in the cafe. We stopped in for lunch and had the best time. You get your choice of appetizer, entree and side dish for $15. The servings are a good size. It's interesting because you can select from items such as a hot dog or a salmon.. and it'll cost you $15 either way, so you may as well go big. Our server Shaundra was the best. She was so sweet and very attentive. She really ensured we had a great time. We will definitely be back to dine here and shop here! Love AG!

Yelp
Went there. I had a reservation at 4.15pm to have a tea party. The traffic was bad and I wasn't that familiar with the roads, so I was a bit late. I got there around 4.30pm, nobody was at the counter. I had to attract a waitress' attention before she called for the host to come greet me at the counter. By that time, it was 4.32pm and the host didn't let me have a tea party, I explained to him that I had a reservation for tea party and it was 4.32pm, their cutoff time for a tea party was 4.30pm Anyway we were seated and the waitress showed me menus, but after some talk, she let me order the afternoon tea party...yay! At $10/person x 4 persons, the total bill came to about $50 with tax and tip included. The food was tasty and pretty! They put a lot of effort into the food. Star-shaped sandwich, fruit skewers, mini muffins, cupcakes and cakepops, mini bagels with spread and a litte bit of ham (4 each)....so it was 4 cakepops, 4 mini muffins, 4 cupcakes, 4 mini sandwich, 4 pieces of jello pudding as big as 1/8 orange slice ....too bad there were only 2 fruit skewers. $50, I was expecting more food....really. I had a 4 yr old, a 2yr old, DH and me. The 2-yr old didn't eat much, she shouldn't really have been charged $10 Decor is nice.
