"Northern Virginia Magazine dining editor and restaurant critic Stefanie Gans heads to Tysons Corner’s new-ish steakhouse, calling it 'unremarkable' against the crowded backdrop of the area’s existing power spots. 'It’s not a foodie destination. It seems to exist to serve the moneyed of McLean,' she writes. American Prime is home of the private club, IX (pronounced 'nine'), which entails a fob and initiation fee, with dishes designed for regulars and high-roller spirits like Hennessy Richard (a half-ounce costing about $250)." - Tierney Plumb

The food was ok. Nothing that makes me want to come back, except the smoked wings and fries. We got the jumbo lump crab dip and sadly did not taste, see, or feel lump or any crap meat in it. My friend got the roasted pork sandwich and was really salty. I got the prime rib sandwich, and it was just ok. My daughter got the spicy chicken sandwich and was not spicy and not flavorful. My colleague got a chicken Ceasar salad, and the chicken was tough and dry. Maybe dinner may be different, but the only thing we enjoyed and tasted great was the wings and fries. Other than that, the customer service was great, just not a place I would come back.

I was with family celebrating and ordered a mocktail fit for the occasion. The service was good and my food was phenomenal!! I ordered the Cauliflower Steak and the wedge. I loved it!

Never knew this restaurant existed. It tucked in an office park and easily overlooked. The food be very good. Wonderful flavors and creative parings. Very impressed with all the dishes from salad to dessert. Found the layout of the restaurant a little odd as well as the decor. Nothing seemed to be cohesive in the decor and no soft spaces. The dining room had no windows and felt like a bunker. Would recommended eating in the bar area side which is full of windows. Great food and will go back.

My husband and I had a Valentine’s Day dinner. We had Brisket Poutine and Mushroom & Truffle soup as appetizers. Both were good, but a bit salty (that’s why we gave 4 stars). The Tomahawk (Medium-rare) was really fantastic, served with spinach dip and unconstructed potatoes. They said that the Tomahawk was not the regular menu, so please be sure it out if you'd like to try it. We were so surprised that we hadn’t known about this place before! Interestingly, the sides were not salty at all, and we loved them very much. We didn’t have enough room for dessert, so we had one to-go. Their atmosphere and service were fantastic, too. Our servers, Allison and Chris, were AWESOME. Thank you!! We want to visit again to try different types of steak next time.

Came here for a late lunch in the afternoon the restaurant was quiet, I didn’t have to wait for a table or make a reservation. This was my second time eating here. We ordered dry aged steak, Chilean Sea bass, crab dip, cheesesteak egg rolls and creamed spinach. The food here was adequate, everything was very salty. My first time eating the dry aged steak, it was a little over cooked I don’t know if that was how they have to cook it but it was good. Crab dip was a bit too sweet, my creamed spinach had chunks of cream cheese or some sort of cheese, cheese steak egg rolls were good but too salty. The sea bass I didn’t try or take pics but I was told it was delicious. Service from the waiter Sophie was excellent.

Really enjoyed my meal. The staff were great. Very pleasant. Very good-natured. Very responsive and helpful. Had brisket and duck confit as an appetizer. Loved it. Will be back!

Amazing private dinner for my son’s 19th birthday!

Google
American Prime serves delicious, high quality food in a great atmosphere. Among higher end restaurants, this is certainly one of the best. For special occasions, it's a treat the whole family should enjoy. The prime rib was cooked perfectly, the crab dip appetizer was excellent, and the sides of creamed spinach and cauliflower were fantastic. We shared a wonderful dessert to cap things off. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The meal I had at American Prime might have been the best meal I've ever had. We visited during DC restaurant week so we got their three course meal. I started with the potato and truffle soup which was so creamy and salty. Then I got the prime rib which I didn't even need a steak knife for because it was so easy to cut. It was juicy, cooked perfectly, and had enough fat on it, it was incredible. The green beans and mashed potatoes came as the sides and were delicious too, I wish I could have had a little more of them. I ended with the bread pudding, which was a nice palate cleanser after the meat. I also had a whiskey cider cocktail to drink that tasted like a fall day with a splash of cinnamon. The service was very good, we had two waiters that took our food and drink orders. They had a nice looking outdoor area with string lights and a fire pit, but it was snowing when we went so we ate inside. The inside is very upscale looking and felt very classy. I am not sure if they have a dress code, but you'll want to dress up when you go. They are located on the first floor of an office building not facing the main road so it is easy to miss, but you need to go and get that prime rib!

Yelp
Met hubby here for lunch because he works nearby on Friday where my pm was free! We were greeted properly and ushered in as we opted for indoor seating. Dining room was okay with tables and booths covered in white cloths to emote fine dining experience, a bit cramped but intimate. By the foyer, two large clear walls; on one side, was a large clear glass fridge dry aging an array of whole prime ribeyes on shelves; and on the other side contains rows of wines on shelves! Ordered crab gazpacho and wedge salad for appetizers and Americans burger and brisket poutine for our main courses. All came plated very appetizing especially the burger in medium and poutine brisket. The brisket was tender, the fries were very tasty. I only wished they'd put just a little bit more gravy and cheese curd sauce complimented the plate very well. 4.5! We also had the bread pudding which had great texture of crumbs for topping and the key lime pie my hubby told me was nice and his fav! Cab Sav complimented my hubby's burger and I opted for the sav blanc which was crisp and light bodied! Our lunch experience here was superb especially when the Chef took the time to introduce himself (John) and asked us to try them again for they have great offerings at Hhr and dinner. Discovered he and Estuary's Michael Voltaggio are friends and he knew Brian too! Lol! Indeed, when I checked out the bar area it has a nice array of bar stools surrounding the large bar, which has direct access to the outdoor dining with plentiful of tables and chairs and probably lively in the latter day after lunch! Will definitely try again and bring friends along!

Yelp
This place is a gem that I never knew about. Right in the heart of Tysons corner, is a steakhouse that offers an amazing selection. The general manager, Jim Sole greeted us and was so accommodating to where we sat. We had an indoor reservation, but chose to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Our server was BIBEK and he was a star. We ordered from the restaurant week menu, and everything was so flavorful and tasty from the crab gazpacho to the halibut to the bread pudding. my friends ordered the prime rib and the rice balls that they loved. Mr. Sole would stop by to check on how things are going, and Bibek was always customer service oriented to meet our request. This place was a 10 out of 10!! We definitely will be back and highly recommend.

Michelle W.

Yelp
INCREDIBLE time here. First of all, the service is OUTSTANDING! We could not believe how accommodating and welcoming the staff made this experience. They were so professional and seamless and made the celebration that we booked here go so smoothly. Big shout out to their manager, Jim. Now, the food: EVERYONE was happy! The best cuts were easily the mushroom ribeye and the New York Strip. Very generous portions and everyone cleaned their plates. The signature prime rib? I was expecting thinly shaved cuts of meat like anywhere else but it ended up being a HUGE thick slab of meat - could barely finish it. The smoked flavor was perfectly balanced and didn't taste artificial/liquid smokey at all. We loved the flatbread as well. Our favorite sides were the cowboy corn, cauliflower gratin, wild mushrooms, and creamed spinach. I can't wait to try the desert next time!!

Rebecca H.

Yelp
The prime rib here was delicious. The sides were also great. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the cowboy corn was tasty. I would definitely recommend the prime rib and the cowboy corn. They also made a great old fashioned cocktail. Since the location was a bit quieter and tucked away from the busy area of Tyson's, I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was.

Opare D.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised stopping by the bar for a quick pit stop while waiting for rush hour to die down. I had the smoked wings during the last few minutes of happy hour and my goodness they were perfect. The house made ranch dressing should be sold by the bottle - the best ranch I've ever had. I will definitely be returning for more wings and to receive Josh's amazing service and margaritas at the bar :) I can't wait to try to prime rib and everything else on the menu. They even have my fave, burrata salad! It is tucked away in an office park but it's still easy to find and plenty of parking and outdoor seating. I really loved the sink outside of the bathroom for quick easy cleanup after demolishing the wings...which is why i don't have food pics.

Mila F.

Yelp
Based on what I got personally I wasn't too impressed. I think I should've gotten a filet mignon because the New York strip even at Medium was tough for me. The broccoli rabe needed something to cut a lot of the bitterness. I'm giving it a 4 regardless for ambience menu and taste. The flavouring is there and the Crab bisque is to die for! I was also served by Bibek and he gets a 5/5 for professionalism and speed as a well as helping me out with my suggestions! If I return I'd switch it up for sure

Roxie D.

Yelp
I was looking for an outdoor space for a friend and I to meet at, and found this place on Yelp. I called ahead and explained that we were hoping for a quiet spot where we could sit away from the crowd, and they were so kind and accommodating. Setting up a reservation was a breeze, and the space itself ended up being so lovely. The service was awesome, and the food was *SO* good, high quality, healthy, delicious. I can't wait to go back!

Lance K.

Yelp
Amazing food great host. First time and will be back. The whole place was perfect.. Food People Place Coming from a CIA chef 5 star plus.. The fish was amazing Also Halibut cooked perfect..

Chris O.

Yelp
One of my pet peeves is ordering a dry aged steak and getting a piece of meat you cannot tell was dry aged. You won't have that problem at American Prime. The meat is behind glass as you walk in -- you can see the cuts aging and know that it's being taken care of. The steak is stunning - the flavors are rich and deep and remind you why Americans fell in love with beef to begin with. Even at medium rare the cuts fall apart and the flavor hits every sensory part of your mouth. The bartenders have a solid pour and the appetizers are a great bridge to the main meal.

Courtney M.

Yelp
Attached are pictures and descriptions of everything we got for dinner. Red wine, Pinot Nior, The Calling. This is one of my favorite wines so I was pretty excited they had it on the menu. We had a wonderful server named Allison who was attentive and offered great suggestions. I will say the restaurant itself is in an odd location. We entered the restaurant through the bar area. They do lots of happy hours there and it actually got pretty loud when we were in the dining room. Didn't impact our experience, but I can see how it could bug other guests. Something to note, which is minor, they offered water once we sat down. Our server offered still or sparkling. I was listening but quickly said oh still, thinking we'd get tap water. She brought out a bottle of cold still water. Which is totally fine for us. But I can see how guests would be annoyed having to pay for still bottled water. I'd recommend the staff offer still, sparkling or tap water.

Virginie C.

Yelp
Nothing special. Was pretty dead on a Friday afternoon and the ambiance just felt... depressing. Cocktails were way too sweet and steaks were decent, but nothing to rave about. If you must go to a steakhouse, just go to Capital Grille and call it a day.

Paige V.

Yelp
We picked up their premade Thanksgiving dinner this year. The owner was very friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious- smoked turkey, cranberries, string beans, stuffing and mashed potatoes. We'll definitely be back next year!

Mai C.

Yelp
Normally I make my own prime rib but because our house is under renovation I went here recently for some prime rib. We were very disappointed in every dish we ordered. Atmosphere - it's a nice restaurant but in a bad location behind a bunch of car dealerships and you have to drive thru a maze of side streets and parking garage to get to the restaurant. On a Saturday night at 730pm there were only 3 tables here including ours so you know that's a bad sign Service 5/5. Waiter was very nice and the manager also removed the bad prime rib from our check Prime rib - tasteless, meat was tough and cut was covered in connective tissue. I think it was a cheaper cut being passed off as prime. NY strip steak was badly burned on the outside. So the outside was well done and the inside blue. It's obvious it caught on fire and they served it to us anyways Shrimp cocktail - the shrimp was small even though the waiter described it as colossal size. Even worse, it was served with tomato paste. Yes you read that correct they gave us a bowl of tomato paste instead of cocktail sauce Cowboy corn - I thought corn would he the dominant ingredient but it was basically just a pan of cheese with some corn Brussel sprouts - this was the best of the worst but it was still really dry but definitely the most edible out of the bunch

Janine D.

Yelp
Great service. Mediocre food. Heavy handed bartenders. We went there recently and I was pretty surprised by how unimpressive the food was. I have been to many restaurants in the Tysons Corner area and this one is not among the ones I enjoyed most. I doubt I would ever go here to eat if I was the one paying...maybe not even for free. It wasn't terrible at all, just not memorable. Nothing stood out. When you pay that much for food, it has to taste like it's worth that much.

Yelp
Great prime rib; minimal wait; sides were good. Overall good place. Pricey but expected in the McLean area. More formal, dining. Service was good; server checked on us a few times. Drinks were good; had a few of their specialty cocktails.

Alex F.

Yelp
Ambience: 5/10 Typical high-end eatery. Dim interior lighting, but quiet. Service: 9/10. Very attentive service. Would be 10/10 but the server brought us overcooked prime rib without explanation or apology till the end of the meal (the kitchen overcooked the entire prime rib). Food: 1/10. Appetizers and sides: nothing special, nothing terrible. But how do you include the word "Prime" in your restaurant name but foist slabs of overcooked/well done (at best) prime rib on customers when what was ordered was either medium rare or medium? Pretty much spoiled the whole experience. Very disappointing.

Alu H.

Yelp
We as family went to American Prime for the $55 special. The three course meal was out of this world! The Chef and his staff knocked it out of the park. The steak rolls was amazing and the soup was delicious. I had the short ribs and they were so tinder. The Prime Rib was on point. The bread pudding & chocolate cake was to die for.

Lindsay K.

Yelp
Good food the charcuterie cheese was so cheese like hardcore I can only take mild cheeses so my tongue was burning. The servers were good but like what do you expect they are probably trained the restaurant was dark and the tables were like weirdly placed no privacy for you! It was good though idk

Patricia S.

Yelp
I had the cheese steak appetizers which were very salty. I had the Blue Cheese Wedge salad. My food was mediocre at best. The salad was pretty uncreative, light on the bacon and blue cheese. My gluten-free friend had a difficult time even choosing much on the menu. We found that all the marked gluten-free dishes were fried in the same fryer as the gluten items, she would have been in bad shape if she had followed the menu. Luckily, our waiter was extremely vigilant and kept checking with the kitchen to see what she could have. The only stand out was the chocolate flourless cake, which was superb! As for ambiance, when we arrived one other couple was there, and when they left we were the only ones in the whole restaurant. It was very strange indeed. I won't be back and certainly can't recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Justin S.

Yelp
Dirty. Food was awful. Have 3 cheeses and one was sold out. The stems I ordered was like a brick. Do not go.

Nille P.

Yelp
We dined here today after seeing a movie. We arrived as soon as they opened and were seated promptly. The atmosphere was nice and inviting. Staff very friendly. I ordered the blackberry lemonade, but it was very tart (almost to the point of being sour). The server was happy to have it made sweeter and it came back delicious. Started with cheesesteak rolls and Caesar salad. Both were tasty. I ordered the smoked brisket that came with fries. My husband ordered prime rib with deconstructed potatoes. Dessert was the butter cake. Cheesesteak rolls - really good Brisket was kinda salty but tender and good Prime rib - delicious Potato - just ok Buttercake came out hot, not warm like I was expecting. Some parts were moist and other parts hard and dry. It had good flavor though. The best part of the restaurant is the service. It's superb. I wouldn't add it to my favorites, but I would dine here again.

James M.

Yelp
The 4 Stars is for the service as all the staff was friendly & attentive. The food for what it cost was 3 Stars at best. The prices would lead me to believe that the environment would be more upscale, but it was not. We ordered Artichoke Dip as an appetizer (Costco's is better), a cheese plate that barely was touched by anyone at the table. My wife ordered Salmon (it was okay), but had better for 1/3rd the price on a Bento Box. I just went with a salad which was a salad as the $40 plus for a steak just seemed to risky after eating at Fogo De Chao with salad bar for less. The Staff was great, the food okay, but the $$$ was too much for the quality.

Jeff L.

Yelp
Wow, such a great place. Okay so I have to admit I was there with a Cigar Bar member so it was a VIP experience like I haven't ever had. But let's get to the brass tacks, the food was amazing all of it. From the flatbread app to the sides to the beef brisket and the steaks. I have to say get the shrooms they were mind blowing not the usual big caps that you get at chain places. The beef brisket was very nice and you can for sure tell the beef was dry aged. The Cowboy corn was excellent as was the broken baked potato. I normally stick to the protein but I had to make an exception as my host was ordering and diet be damned. I also heard many of the other dishes were great, so I guess next trip I am going back for more. I am from CA so I am picky and don't hand out 5 too often but this time for sure this is a 5!

Maya F.

Yelp
they gave us a new piece of steak because we did not like the prime rib. very kind and great service

Ashleigh L.

Yelp
The service was exceptional. I wouldn't say this place is romantic, but I'll say it's cozy. They do have a cigar box that sits near the bar and you will smell the cigars when you first enter the restaurant. Which, for me didn't bother me but I know for some may be a turn off. The lights are dim and you can tell this place is really good for happy hour. Now, on to the food. I will say this my food was decent, however the presentation could've been way better for the price. Also, I really wasn't a fan that all the sides on the menu are à la carte. Listen, I don't have a problem spending money for great food, but I do think this place is a tad but overpriced. If you like steak this would be a good place to eat from just be prepared to spend a good little penny.

Anye B.

Yelp
Decided to take our mom and my sister out for Mother's Day. This restaurant is really cute and cheek. We were greeted and seated. The server was nice and provided great service. We ordered appetizers and drinks. The food was delicious and we also ordered entrées. We ended ordering key lime pie and bourbon pound cake and it was delicious. Everything was tasty. I would say they have one of the best mash potatoes I ever had.

Orvina W.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate the engagement of my little brother and his now fiancé! Eduardo was our server and he was literally the best server in the world!!! The crab soup was delicious, I wasn't a fan of the crab dip though. I had steak frites with the cowboy corn and it was all delicious!

Burton K.

Yelp
Great steak and service, beats morgan steakhouse and is up there w ruth chris steaks..not better than ruth though. Briskets were great as well!

Jamel V.

Yelp
Went on a WAY less than busy night (Monday) and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Sat near the bar and could smell the smoke from the cigar bar. We ordered almost literally everything in the menu ( crab dip, French onion soup, steak and cheese egg rolls, smoked chicken wings, fries and the prime rib). The drinks and the smoked wings were the best part of the meal. Would go back for wings and drinks again but not a full meal.

Mike B.

Yelp
Searching through yelp reviews we came across across American Prime. Visiting from out of state we didn't have much of an idea on where to go. The staff is EXTREMELY friendly. Pictured I had the NY strip (dry aged)- medium rare with a marrow butter sauce, Brussel sprouts and French onion soup. NY Strip - the marrow butter was the perfect topping to this dry aged beef. As you bite through the crust of this steak, you immediately bite into the center which liquifies in your mouth. Brussel sprouts- delicious sprouts charred and booming with flavors French onion soup - step back and taste the savory soup it's just amazing. A tad salty but still delicious!

Christopher H.

Yelp
Pretty terrible experience overall. It was a beautiful night, so we sat outside. The inside & bar was pretty much empty. We ordered two Manhattans at the bar waiting for one more party. They were extremely sweet, more like a Shirley temple. Table service was very slow. It took about 15 mins to get the first round of drinks. It was downhill from there. Ordered two Stoli dirty martinis on the rocks. They came out neat and disgusting. Overly dirty to the point they were undrinkable. Had they been ok, we would have overlooked the fact they weren't on the rocks. We sent them back. 10 mins later, they came out again, neat. They were sent back again. Third time is a charm. They were served with olive juice on the side because they can't make a dirty martini. Switched to wine. Can't screw that up. The food was rather good as compared to the service. Steak and Grouper were nicely prepared. The sides were smaller than expected, but good. There were a lot of excuses and apologizing for the slow service. The kicker was the bill. Soli Dirty Martini - They served Stoli Elite instead of Stoli which is twice the price. + $2.00 charge for olives and $3.00 charge for ice for each. My wife asked for dressing for her Caesar salad, $1.50. Ordered Frangelico with our coffee, $3.00 added for neat pour. All in all, over $20.00 in additional charges for ridiculous add ons. When the manager was confronted, he explained everyone does that. My wife and I have traveled a lot for both business & personal purposes over the last few decades. We dined at many of the finest restaurants this country has to offer in about 35 states. I have only seen these up charges In Miami Florida about 20 years ago. That place went out of business 19 years ago. To say the least, locally, Eddy V's, Capital Grille, Fleming's, and Morton's don't practice these dishonest upcharges. We will never dine at American Prime in Tysons again. Ever. Advice, check your bill closely.

Renee S.

Yelp
I want to start my review shouting our server, Brad, out. He was great! Very professional and attentive. I came to meet my sister after work for dinner. The restaurant was pretty hard to find but after circling a few times I managed to locate it. There were just a few people standing around the bar. It had a nice ambience. Dim lights, nice decor and appropriate music. I decided on the filet. I also split the Mac n cheese with my sister. The food came out pretty fast! I was not blown away but the steak, the potato/veggie medley or the Mac n cheese. I felt the taste was honestly just okay. Would I eat it again? Probably. Now when it comes to dessert, yes yes and yes! We got the bourbon butter cake and omgosh I never knew I needed this in my life! It really was just as good as Brad told us it would be. I was more than pleasantly pleased. All in all, cute restaurant. Okay food. I would recommend to at least try it once.

Brian K.

Yelp
Amazing food, outstanding service (thank you Bibek)! From start to finish, possibly the best prime rib and NY strip I've ever had. Can not recommend this place enough if you are looking for a place for a mouthwatering steak, look no further than American Prime!

Anh N.

Yelp
Happy to see another solid steakhouse in the area. They have a great casual vibe, outdoor patio, stiff craft cocktails. I'm a fan! I look forward to coming back for more drinks and delicious bites!

Ed K.

Yelp
I just took my family to the iconic steakhouse in NYC for a special birthday dinner. My experience at the place that rhymes with Leter Puger was just fine and you must to go there at least once for the experience, but it just reminded me of how much better my go to place in NoVa is. American Prime's steak is just so so so much better at a fraction of the price...an incredible value. It has just the right amount of nuttiness and they cook it just at the right temperature. The only differentiator at PL was the hot serving plate with lots of juice/butter that they spoon over the steak. It's sort of cheating but a good thing in my opinion. AP's Garden Wedge salad is fresh yet hearty at the same time...now I love blue cheese but the blue cheese crumbles on top of the blue cheese slurry topping the wedge at PL was just too much of a good thing and too rich. PL had just regular fries and onion rings that don't even come close to the bone marrow mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and mushrooms at AP. The desserts at PL were average at best and the Schlag was just regular old whipped cream in a bowl. At AP the Kentucky Butter Cake is the BOMB and the key lime pie is legit. Thanks Joon and Chef Jon...keep doing what you're doing!

Lindsey M.

Yelp
We came for restaurant week to try out this spot for the first time and had a lovely dinner Al fresco. The truffle Arancini were yummy and we enjoyed our scallops. The staff was also very friendly, which made for a very nice meal.

Jose L.

Yelp
Wife and I went to American Prime in Tysons Corner area for our date night last Friday. First time here and I don't know how we've missed this place for so long. The prime rib was extraordinarily delicious, perfectly tender and juiciest cut I've had. The cowboy corn was savory, the perfect blend of corn, cheese, and spices. I would caveat that some items I found are overly smoked, but that's my own preference. It is tucked away in an office park a mile or so from Tysons I and II, and I saw comments on Yelp or Opentable that it was difficult to find. I had no problem finding it. Parking is along the outer ring of the office buildings. Normally we hit Randys', Nostos, or Flemings as our go to place in Tysons, now have to add this place in our rotation.

Deborah B.

Yelp
The DMV restaurant week was nothing in Montgomery County, as dining is an event, presentation, service and food temperatures are very important. So, we traveled to Tysons Corner in Virginia for a full meal experience. We were not disappointed! Everyone at the restaurant were genuinely happy we were there. They did a great job of social distancing, sanitation, and hospitality. We started with Tito's Martini up with 3 olives and a Makers Mark Manhattan with 2 cherries one the rock (a very big square cube) both were made perfectly. 1st course I chose the potato and leek soup with the comfy soup and my husband had the wedge salad both were made better than expected, my soup creamy with little hints of duck, the salad was a baby Boston head with lots of bacon and blue cheese. I had the short rib over sweet potato purser with a red wine reduction and my husband had the famously Smoked Prime Rib. Both were done to perfection. The prime rib however did not come with any sides, nor did the meal come with any bread/ rolls, which for such a high end place was a little strange. Dessert we both chose Key Lime Pie, I could not have made it better myself! Wine there is Very Reasonably priced, and a wide selection presented on an iPad which gives reviews from wine spectator to help narrow down your decision. Service- SUPERB! Our server answered any questions we had with confidence and knowledge. We definitely will be returning!

Stefanie B.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Went for an anniversary dinner with hubby. Ambiance was awesome too!

Emily M.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I love prime rib. I love prime rib so much that I suggest it at the holidays to whomever is hosting dinner. That being said, I was beyond excited when I noticed American Prime on yelp. What could be better than an upscale restaurant serving one of my favorite cuts of meat? I had high hopes for American Prime and was hoping to be able to add it to our rotation of restaurants for celebratory dinners. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the hype. My husband and I dined here during summer restaurant week. The crab and shrimp poppers were outstanding! 10/10 for this dish. The scallops were not to my liking, the flavor combination did not do it for me. On to the entree, the prime rib...This dish was a huge disappointment for a number of reasons. The beef wasn't cooked to specifications, the meat was smoked and tasted like brisket. Furthermore, it was very tough. I suspect that the quality of meat may not be what they usually serve on their regular menu. Finally, dessert was just ok. I ordered the key lime pie which was decent, but not memorable in any way. The service was good and the ambiance here is great. The interior is intimate and romantic. However the food fell short for me.

Beverly B.

Yelp
Excellent food and atmosphere. We enjoyed every bit of our night. It was topped off by the owner Joon stopping by and confirming the filtration system in place which put us at ease during this pandemic. The food was amazing. And Dexter was a great waiter. Stella made sure we were will taken care of in our private room. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
My brother and I came here for dinner on a Saturday, we made a reservation for 5:30pm (during Winter Restaurant Week). We were celebrating his college acceptances. In the reservation note online I asked for a corner table so that we were not in the dining room and they delivered! It was a 3 course dinner for $35 They took our coats and treated us professionally (even though we looked young-highschooler and grad student). For the appetizer, we got the snake river farms wagyu beef carpaccio and the crab and shrimp poppers. They were alright. For Entree, we got a 8 oz filet mignon which came with mashed potatoes (it was delicious but the temperature was a bit off...we ordered a medium and it seemed medium rare) and the 10 oz prime rib which was alright. For Dessert, we got the cheesecake and the bourbon bread putting. The cheesecake was so savory and sweet. The bread pudding was also pretty good--even though I am not a big bread pudding fan). The service was fantastic! The red headed hostess was very sensible and was AMAZING. Our waiter was pretty good too. The water was always filled and even the chef came to ask us how our food was.

Yelp
Underwhelming food -- appetizer was a mess, filet was subpar and didn't stand up to its name. Service (waiter) was very good and much appreciated.

Yelp
Sigh. Hmph. Ugh. Came here for my husband's birthday dinner, specifically for the prime rib. First off, I want to say that the reason that this review is 2 stars and not one star is the service. Lovely. Our waiter (and eventually the manager) were both excellent. The issue was the food. Husband started with the French onion soup, which he deemed as "ok" - onions...cheese...and salt. Lots and lots of salt. I would not have minded some of that on my wedge salad...or any flavor for that matter...where was the dressing? Back in the kitchen apparently. Even the "blue cheese" scattered around the plate- which I suspect was the really cheap kind that tastes like tofu with fake blue "veins" was flavorless. Like like picked up each individual piece of cheese to taste it by itself and...nothing. Next came the prime rib with my husband again deemed - ok. Not great, not bad, just...ok. I got the steak frites ordered medium well (you may commence snickering) which was nicely charred on the outside and completely raw on the inside - like cold raw. I sent it back and the waiter (who really was great) apologized and said the new sous chef was "nervous"...huh? If you're hired to be a sous chef at a high end steak house and you can't cook a medium well steak...I suppose I would be nervous too. I opted to have the steak taken off the check and watched my husband eat his birthday dinner alone (by the time my dinner was ready he would be finished anyway) and opted for my daughter's leftover dim sum at home (which were really good btw - shout out to A&J in Rockville!) and the manager also comped our drinks (excellent drinks at that) which was a very nice gesture... We left without having dessert...on his birthday. Until they get some more competent cooks in the kitchen...proceed with caution...

Yelp
The food, bone in ribeye and broccolini, was fair. The steak was cooked well but nothing special, average. The broccolini was not good. Didn't eat it except for a sample tasting..... never inquired why, or if it was ok, just cleaned up the table. You're in $75 to $100 per person restaurant and there is no bread service Service was adequate, bit of a language barrier Disappointing at this price point

Yelp
Tucked into a kind of courtyard surrounded by office buildings this is a nice spot separated from the hustle bustle of Tysons with lots of heated outdoor seating. The wait staff was great, very attentive and nice. Unfortunately the food simply isn't very good, which is especially unfortunate given the prices. We started with a crudités plate, which had about 25 slices of not-especially-fresh vegetables, two different kinds of hummus that were delicious, and a large pile of flatbread. Kind of ok. I got the signature prime rib, medium rare, with creamed spinach and a Caesar salad. The prime rib was rare, chewy and unseasoned, slightly smoky on the outside edge but basically inedible unless you like chewing on bland raw meat. The au jus that came with it had no more flavor than water. The creamed spinach was a bowl of molten cheese, cream and fried shallots with spinach flavor, which would have been good as an appetizer with bread, but impossible to have more than 2 bites on its own. The Caesar salad had a few crisp pieces of lettuce buried under a pile of shredded cheese, bland dressing, and no anchovies. Perhaps it is a preference thing but I expect food to have flavor and for vegetables to be fresh and taste like vegetables. Maybe it is a steak house standard to try to see how much fat you can cover your vegetables with but I find it beyond unappealing. There are lots of other steak houses and upscale restaurants nearby that are better options.

Yelp
Honestly American prime should be called American subprime. I've been here on a few occasions and you come in hoping for a bull market but you end up with a bear. I was underwhelmed when they first opened. I tried their restaurant week a few years back. Even though they have the smallest meat aging space (our front to show the customers). There's like one piece of meat in it. I recently did not see many "aged" items on the menu either. So I was forced back due to an event. The service was strange, at best. First, they had a heavy handed pour and were pushing drinks. They used this weird old iPad thing where the cover didn't match the version of the iPad they were using. Then, it lead you to think you needed to order on the iPad but nope, you tell the wait staff. So why even use this kludghy iPad?!?!? Then my friend asked if what she ordered was dairy free (to confirm). The response she got was "sure... whatever." My prime rib looked like it had been dancing or sloshed around the plate the entire night before it got to me and it was lukewarm at best. Then there was the food... "chef mike" (the microwave) seemed like he was on duty. Of the people who ordered the prime rib. It all came out well done except one. One was still frozen in the center. I ordered medium rare and it was a weird dark gray color. Not from cooking. But from steaming under the warming tray it was so evident they couldn't handle the 40 people in the room. The prime rib was exceedingly salty. Then there was the "au jus". I said no to the au jus and the staff just poured it over my dish... but it was a food thing... it washed away some of the salt. Again, American prime for the cost is not worth the investment of your time or money. Go elsewhere.

Yelp
Loved this place! My friends and I came here for dinner a few days ago, on a Tuesday evening. There are parking spaces in the back parking lot; also, they do offer free valet parking (tip: remember to have some cash to tip them--I didn't, so I parked in the back). There weren't many people eating inside, but we had reservations so we were seated right away. As you enter, the bar area is on your right--it has a sports bar feel to it, with some seating outdoor as well. To your left is the more sit-down restaurant feel--seemed more classy. Our server, Doris, was amazing--super friendly and attentive to our needs. She told us that the restaurant is fairly new--opened about two and a half months ago. The food was amazing. For appetizers, we got the Maryland lump crab and shrimp poppers--pretty yummy! I ordered the 12 oz. house-smoked prime rib--delicious--it was cooked perfectly. I tried my friend's jumbo lump crab cakes, and they were pretty good--loaded with crab meat and barely breaded. I loved the side dishes--we ordered the kimchi fried rice (tip: add bacon, it's amazing as an addition), braised Brussel spouts, and the mashed potatoes (it comes with roasted bone marrow butter!!). For drinks, I ordered a mojitos, which was made perfectly. We ordered some rounds of shots--they came with a good amount of alcohol, well worth the price (about $10-12ish per drink). Had such a great dinner here, I will definitely be back!
