"With locations in Dorchester and South Boston, this is a neighborhood-y specialty food shop that has everything from natural wine and artisan cheese to locally made jams and cured meats. Two gift boxes are available for purchase, one is an assortment encompassing all things food and the other is a cheese-centered box that includes cow, goat, sheep, and blue cheeses as well as fine chocolate and crackers." - Valerie Li Stack

"Where else can you grab a cold brew, some chimichurri beef skewers, and a bacon jam and arugula tartlet at the same time? This gourmet specialty store, which opened in 2019 (joining its older sibling in Southie), serves coffee alongside pantry essentials, snacks, and other goodies. For those who like to brew their coffee at home, the store stocks beans from independent roasters, including Cambridge-based Broadsheet Coffee Roasters. American Provisions is open for takeout. Orders can be placed ahead of time on the shop’s website." - Nathan Tavares

Google
Outstanding catering services. We ordered a bunch of veggie and cheese platters, potato salad, farro salad and Mac & cheese and everything was very fresh, flavorful and the catering portions were large. 5 stars due to what I just said but also because we called several times making sure those attending our party with food allergies could still eat specific dishes and they were thoughtful with those requests. Customer service puts them over the top!

Google
Inedible sandwich. Was drenched in the sauce on the Farmhouse. Do not recommend. Can’t review in Uber and paid $26 for nothing. No refund on Uber because it was not damaged it was just “gross” and apparently that doesn’t count. Honestly probably 1/4 cup of not so great honey mustard on it.

Google
Great roast beef sandwich - perfectly flavored. Nice selection of craft beers and European products.

Google
Service was great, helpful and friendly. Good was great, tasty and variations on classics that were interesting. It's not fast food, they prepare and serve hot, so call ahead for lunch orders. Had a meatball special which was perfect at that moment

Google
Great to see this place in the neighborhood. They have an interesting selection of non-mainstream liquor and beer!

Google
Came for Breakfast. Very impressed. Food was cooked to order and was very tasty. Loved their whole set up.

Google
The food is good but if you can't fulfil orders you should take yourself off the mobile apps. There are few things more frustrating than ordering lunch, waiting for lunch, and then having your lunch order randomly canceled with no explanation. You're charging over $16 dollars for a sandwich you can probably afford to hire some help with the orders.

Google
Totally impressed with their selection of natural wines AND how many affordable bottles they have. You can tell they’re really being thoughtful in what they put on their shelves and that gets my business every time.

Yelp
American Provisions is the kind of place I go to when I get the urge to buy a large $5.29 plastic clamshell of fabulous Little Leaf Farms lettuce (available anywhere) divided into 3 individual bags stamped "American Provisions Little Leaf Farms," each selling for $4.79 each. Folks probably love the young friendly good looking staff. Mostly, they just remind me that I'm not.

Yelp
Absolutely Love this place! Dorchester's best kept secret for great ambience. The staff are beyond amazing here and the manager is great! They are all friendly, accommodating, and the food is fresh. I eat here at least 6 times out the month. Great spot for meeting up and having a coffee! It is a little pricey...but for me, it works.

Yelp
I have lived here for a year and never stopped by because I wasn't sure what it was. Turns out to be a lovely grocery store / cafe. I ordered a chick pea sandwich and it was delicious. I was impressed by their vegetarian and vegan options! They also have a breakfast menu that I would love to try. After I got my sandwich, I ate in their gorgeously decorated seating area. Someone was there working and someone else sipping a coffee so this just gave it really cozy cafe vibes. When I was finished, I perused their LOVELY selection of craft beers- lots of local things (citizens, DBC, Notch, Bully boy) plus others I would love to try. They also had a wall of high quality coffee beans from the area that got me excited! Very versatile place for sure :)

Yelp
I thought this market place was such a cool place to check out! I ordered the "Il Prato and added prosciutto",, it was a little expensive for the small portion but the quality ingredients were amazing.

Chris D.

Yelp
Food and service decent but got a contact high as soon as I walked in the door, must be a fun place to work, smokin dope and skippin rope on the clock, have to ask my boss if we can set up an arrangement like that. Rating lowered since wouldn't pass a drug test after walking out of there.

Yelp
Got 2 Italian sandwiches for 27 dollars and change !! They had 3 thinly sliced pieces of meat in each ! Terrible, Won't be back ! Very disappointed !

Casey M.

Yelp
Perfect local shop. Sandwiches are all home runs. To go meals are fresh and delish. Only negative are the hours at night, but well worth the visit.

Denny T.

Yelp
Abit pricey for a sandwich but the ingredients are freshly made, also first time coming in, had the best customer service to guide me and my friend to pick out some good sandwich by recommendations. Staff are always smiling and reminding our time on waiting, could felt the friendly vibe presented

Yelp
MY FAVORITE SPOT. I absolutely love this place. The workers are SO nice and helpful. They are experts with everything food and drinks. They always offer to help me pick out some cheese or wine without trying to force me to buy more or something expensive (which I hate). They let me sample a bunch of cheeses until I find exactly what I want. They are so awesome. If I could give them more starts I would. Pro tip: if you come early there's bread from yesterday for 2$

Meghan D.

Yelp
Okay I have never left a yelp review in my life but I just need to say this place is super inconsistent. Payed $10 for a breakfast burrito that was all dry potatoes, was supposed to have guacamole and there was none idk if you're gonna overprice food and people are gonna splurge one day and then get basically a potato burrito that's just extremely disappointing. How are you gonna do that to people. Idk I'm poor and that sucks.

Kim P.

Yelp
This place has good food and good drinks. We ventured here on a snowy Saturday for bagels and coffee and it didn't disappoint. Good variety of sandwiches and ready-to-go items at prices that are Cambridge-competitive. They have regular wine and beer tastings, too. The service was warm, friendly and funny, but seating is limited so if you want to stay it seemed there was one table with a nice view. Welcome to the Dot, indeed.

Alexis U.

Yelp
Amazing food and the artisan ambiance is just as pleasant! I only had 20 minutes for my lunch break and decided to order a sandwich since it was so close! I got the Il Prato sandwich (basically a caprese sandwich) with chicken and it was TO DIE FOR!! Not too expensive, considering all the ingredients are fresh and organic plus my order was ready in 15 minutes flat !! I only had about 10 minutes left of my lunch break to scarf it down but I was sooooo satisfied!! AMAZING SPOT!! I will be back (and next time I'll take pictures because it looked as good as it tasted!)

Yelp
This is the best addition to the neighborhood and I've been praying for something like this for 10 years. Every time I come in Noah has helped me primarily but everyone else is incredibly gracious knowledgeable and lovely as well. Noah so well-informed on all of the different products from the pre-prepared frozen and fresh goods to the wildly diverse cheeses and the delightful selection of beers and wine. I had spinal surgery yesterday and so to prepare for post-op. He helped me select some items for the freezer and easy things to put together. Last night I made the most incredible caprese sandwich on a baguette with ingredients I had purchased and today I have snacked on some of the mind-boggling cheeses. Go go go, they are wonderful and deserves our support, you won't regret it! I just wanted to respond to the two reviews that were pretty negative about the cost,. As a chef and restaurateur I just wanted to clarify some things. This is definitely a specialty grocery store and the prices are appropriate, I know how much these things cost the owners and taking into consideration all of the other things involved in the overhead of running a business do get factored in. Having a staff that can tell you where 40 or 50 different extremely unusual cheeses comes from is very very rare. For some folks they will come in here every day and for some it might be a once in a while treat, but everything they have is extremely high-quality and you get what you pay for. They also have a Cherry location, probably with high rent and high insurance. I am absolutely sure they do everything by the book and non-industry folks just have no idea the costs of just opening the doors. If you are happy with Dunkin Donuts coffee, Quiznos subs, crappy grocery store olive oil which BTW isn't even olive oil , and DiGiorno pizza, then by all means, stick with that. I'm not judging, food is like art- eat what YOU want to, but I don't think it's right or kind to disparage a great new neighborhood business that is busting their butt to bring something special to our neighborhood.

Yelp
We live around the corner and are so thankful these guys came in. Noah, Kara, Mike, Marge and crew are so personable, friendly and really care about being apart of the community. We eat here 2-3x per week. Their prepared foods, groceries, beer and wine have all been exceptional and I like to think we have fairly high bar for quality. HIGHLY recommend!

Yelp
great neighborhood sandwich spot Ill start with the sandwich, The AP Chicken, what can i say that the sandwich doesn't say for itself? Its a stand up sando, like your neighbor in shorts in February, shoveling out your car because he was already out in the shit. The bread is outstanding, and that's only the beginning, the perfectly cooked chicken is topped with just the right amount of deliciousness before its wrapped and you are looking at a case of craft beer unrivaled in the neighborhood. Do yourself a favor be like your neighbor and eat a sandwich from here

No W.

Yelp
People that work here are awesome. If you're looking for a cheese board they will help recommend the right meats with the right cheese. The Italian sandwich is bomb here too!

Yelp
Okay let's talk about.... American Provisions/ Dorchester- I came into the shop yesterday at around 5:30PM and was greeted by a primarily white staff, which is not a problem however the choice of music that blared out was ABSOLUTELY a problem. "Nigger, Nigger Nigger" (compliments of Kanye) played loudly from the sound system. Guys, in a community dealing with the very real effects of gentrification know that this is offensive, completely tone deaf and NOT at all a good look for our neighborhood or any neighborhood, for that matter. Please do better.

Cory K.

Yelp
This place is great! Just stopped in while I was driving by in a rush to where I was going at about 5:30. Turns out the kitchen Closes at 5p but the girls working (I didn't get their names) were so nice and made me a sandwich with what they had available anyways. I have no idea what it was but it was so good. I think it had chickpea in it. They also sell a bunch of cheeses and they had sampless available which for me was just an appetizer and much welcomed. Great spot!

Yelp
This place offers so much. Terrific food that's perfect for lunch (sandwiches, salads), a picnic, and more. Their cheeses and prepared foods are to die for. Also there is an amazing beer and wine selection. You'll find a ton of unique and interesting options at a reasonable price. The staff is always super friendly and ready to help. Also, during the pandemic, this location has really exceeded expectations by making the online ordering and pickup process easy and smooth. My wife and I have been ordering a lot of groceries from here and it's worked out great. The produce is good, they have plenty of meat options and some great pantry items (even the rare flour and yeast!). We love this place and truly appreciate how they've evolved in a challenging time and found a way to get even better.

Jason G.

Yelp
AP has been a great addition to the neighborhood! The staff are always so courteous and personable and somehow seem to remember each guest! I am by no means a connoisseur of meat and cheese however, the staff are great at pointing me in the right direction! Their sandwiches are also gorgeous worth checking out. Wish these guys all the best for the future!

T M.

Yelp
Great selection of unique quality food and drink. Getting these more exotic foods isn't cheap, but it's worth it!

Pamela S L.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches, salads, prepared foods. Love their cheese, meat and beer selection. Excellent service! Neighborhood spot that we totally love.

Zachary H.

Yelp
My partner and I came in looking for lunch; we didn't know the place also serves as a gourmet grocery. The "Steak Bomb" sandwich that the staff recommended tasted fantastic, and we also picked up some farrow (which we'd been failing to find elsewhere). Given that the sandwich was enough for us to split for lunch - and that the bread, steak, cheese, veggies... everything(!) was SO good - we will definitely be back :)

Bill C.

Yelp
When a place like this opens up, you know the rent is going up. The prices are absurd, the funniest item being a cup of olive oil for around 20 bucks. I almost spat out my non-locally sourced Dunkin' Donuts coffee I was sipping on in shock. Lots of truffle oil infused garbage for the upper crust who will turn this neighborhood into a giant condo in 20 years. At least everybody who works there seems very nice. That's not reason enough to avoid a 1 star rating, but at least the harbingers of gentrification will do so with a smile and a charcuterie board for sampling.

Meme C.

Yelp
More than 5 star. We've used a lot of caterers in the Seaport area and never had we had a better experience. American Provisions is the first time we've had a caterer that EVERYONE in the office loves and raves about. Can't tell you how much we've loved every meal. Delivery is always on time. The food presentation and quality is amazing. We've had the cheese trays, sandwiches, grape leaves, veggie platter and roasted veggies. This is now our go-to for office lunches.

Dan M.

Yelp
The most consistent place to eat in Ashmont! You are paying for value but it's an awesome weekly treat if you're in the area. Well adaptive in the wake of Covid, glad to see business continue!

Justin B.

Yelp
I've been a few times and each time at the register it feels like you've been fleeced because this place is outrageously expensive, and not everything has a price tag. Beware the items without a price tag as you may go into anaphylactic shock at the register. I wanted to like it, but the markup is so high it's hard to enjoy. All the food and drinks are great. But it's sad that this place doesn't really fill the grocery needs for the neighborhood, being over the top expensive.
