Purchased the cherry margarita and bloody mary mix back in the first week of June while on a trip. Was able to sample the non-alcoholic version of the cherry maragarita in the store. Safely packaged it in my check in luggage. Just tried tonight. Wow!!! So much better with a splash of tequila and a couple Traverse City bourbon cocktail cherries. I will be doing an online order soon. Yummy! I couldn't stop after my first sip.

Google
Great store and great product! So many great flavors in here. It is pretty expensive but good things usually are! The staff is friendly and welcoming.

Lisa Bacon

Google
Handmade gelato. A bit on the expensive side, but so worth it. I got Red Raspberry and Black Raspberry and my daughter got Tart Cherry. Both were delicious and just the right balance of tart and sweet. We'll be back!

Our favorite shop to go to when we want to stock our pantry back in Norway or give a gift that captures our beloved northern Michigan. Recommend the triple berry conserve with the peanut butter for a delicious grilled pb&j, the margarita mix for summertime, and my personal favorite, the thimbleberry jam.

Rich Surace

Google
Friendly staff with delicious sauces and preserves. Really like that they had samples out of everyone one to try. This definitely helped us to buy a few we may have not bought without trying. The staff was great with our 3 kids wanting to try everything. Didn't get annoyed at all. We bought the Jalapeño Pepper Jelly and the Pumpkin Chipotle. We have enjoyed the fresh ingredients so much that we may actually mail away for an order to get more.

Google
Gelato, not ice cream! This place is delicious. I sampled wild honey, spearmint chip, and peppermint chip. My friends got other flavors (pumpkin, blueberry, pineapple) which I tried as well. I love strong flavors and these were fresh, delicious and strong. Bear in mind that gelato is denser than ice cream. It may seem like portions are smaller but the price is good for the excellent flavors.

Sara DePew

Google
Go for the jams and stay for the gelato. They will usually have free samples of jams/mustards/salsa to try.

Google
I recommend find the gelato- some of the best in MI and great spot by the park!

Yelp
Came here twice while in the Petoskey area. Both times gelato was on point! Service was great too line was out the door but we moved pretty quick, they will let you taste any of the gelato, all flavors we tasted were amazing. Love the inside of the place, super cute, lots of tables, decor is simplistic and chic, the AC really helped our large party in the 90 degree heat :))

Aparna B.

Yelp
Love American Spoon! I didn't realize their flagship store was in Petoskey, not in TC! But next door they have this coffee and gelato cafe. Omg so good. I tried their featured flavors: ginger and wildflower honey. Would recommend!

Amanda L.

Yelp
The first thing my friends and I did when we popped into Petoskey was stop by American Spoon Gelato! It is a must! Their gelato is SO delicious and they offer so many flavors! With an absolute stunning and beautifully decorated interior and exterior patio, this place is somewhere I will be stopping by every time I come into town, regardless of weather! This time around I got a selection of their lemon gelato and Michigan blueberry flavors and they were scrumptious! Others that my friends had tried that I snuck a little taste of from them that I was very impressed with were the stracciatella (chocolate/hazelnut taste) and the zabaglione (wine taste, but very light and more sweet than wine) flavors! And with their unique selection of gelato flavors that rotate as well through the seasons, there will always be something new for me to get here as well, which I love! YUM!

Jason S.

Yelp
Great and unique flavors! They kept the door open a few minutes after closing and were very patient with us as we tried flavors. I loved the tart cherry and chocolate. The chocolate is like fudge! My wife and daughter loved the wild flower honey! Very fun old small town feel and friendly feel. This made our night!

Daniel B.

Yelp
Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes! After dinner I was feeling a bit heavy and I told my family, "What I really want is one scoop of a passionfruit sorbet, maybe I can find it in Petoskey." They kind of rolled their eyes in my general direction. Sure Dad. I had forgotten that since I was last up in these parts that American Spoon had opened a Gelato Cafe. I am a long time fan of their fruit preserves, but wasn't even sure if we had made it in time before the shop closed for the night. Not only was the place open, but right there in the cooler was a pan of mango passionfruit sorbet! What good fortune! But with a small cup ($4.95) you can choose two flavors, so I snuck in a little Michigan Blueberry Gelato. The combination was vibrant, fun, and just what the doctor ordered. My wife went with half ginger and half pineapple. My oldest went with half pineapple and half lemon sorbet. My youngest went with half chocolate gelato and half raspberry sorbet. The American Spoon folks are geniuses when it comes to fruit. I've known this forever. But they are also marvelous with pretty much anything they touch. The chocolate and raspberry combination was my favorite. I am very fortunate to have a family of great sharers. However, I was blown away by the warmth and depth of the ginger gelato in my wife's cup! Dang. Great stuff. And also well paired with the pineapple. This is a must stop destination if you are in Petoskey, and I would drive well out of my way just to try some more of their offerings. Is it more expensive than classic old time ice cream places? Sure. But it's worth every penny. The flavors and colors might make you suspect there is dark magic at play, but what you are experiencing is simply mastery of craft. A rare treat indeed!

Maia M.

Yelp
Nice gelato, no weird unauthentic gelatos that stick out of the container like mountains. Great flavor and variety, also great ambiance, very cute and not too outdated but not too new! Very cute! Definitely recommend. Also good service!!!!

Blade 5.

Yelp
Do not get from here. My ice cream tasted like chemicals and it is way over priced for the small portions

Mike B.

Yelp
Very nice and interesting diverse selections of products. Bought several products, jams and maple syrup.

Niki B.

Yelp
I like to think of this as my "nothern-Michigan Patachou." American Spoon is adorable, fresh, and cheery. Love the graphics, the presentation, and the options. The gelato is dope. I'm personally more of an ice cream girl (more fat, more fun?), but this is the one place where I always get gelato! The burnt caramel is my personal favorite. You can get two flavors in a eenie, bitty bowl, so definitely do that. Last time we were here, they were out of a lot of the entrees, but we learned it was because lunch hour was almost over (we went to lunch around 2:30pm and that was a little late so go earlier!). GET THE PULLED PORK SANDWICH. Best one I've ever had!!! I've also heard that the Whitefish Sandwich rocks too.

Courtney K.

Yelp
I would love to give this place a 5-star review but of the small amount of main entree options, the three most popular were out at 1pm on a Thursday. It was disappointing to not get any of my first three choices to eat, although the BBQ pork sandwich was delicious. It took almost an hour to get our food but it was ok because we were visiting with friends and the atmosphere is great. I loved the cute little flower arrangements on the tables. All of their food is trucked in from local farms and very fresh and home-made; you can definitely tell. The gelato is delicious too- all of the fruit sorbettos and gelatos are very flavorful. I recommend the burnt caramel, coconut, mango and raspberry- those were the ones I've gotten recently! We will be back for sure, we want an American Spoon in Indy too!

Hannah H.

Yelp
Best gelato I've ever had. I got hazelnut and coconut, the texture and flavor was incredible. So many more amazing flavors I'd love to try too

eden f.

Yelp
This was phenomenal, I got the red haven peach and it was beyond my expectations! I highly recommend this place for anyone visiting here! The person who took my order was very rude and didn't even say hello so that was disappointing which is why it gets 4 star review

Erica K.

Yelp
Best gelato ever!! We come here every time we it Petoskey. We've had several flavors and ALL of them are amazing.

John G.

Yelp
A nicely designed space with lots of outside light. We stopped for their spicy chicken sandwich, which went on my list of all time favorites. The chicken was crispy and very juicy at the same time. The garnishes add some nice spiciness. The menu had some other great sounding dishes, like a trout sandwich. They had some local beers like the Right Brain Brewery's Death Kettle IPA. I guess we'll have to come back.

Gemma H.

Yelp
Ever since I went to Italy and discovered that gelato doesn't make me sick the way ice cream usually does, I have looked for the best gelato I can find at home in the US. This is currently topping my chart of best American gelato. I loved the flavors they offered--they had a lot of options including a bunch of unique ones. I went basic, because it just sounded good and after I tasted the chocolate and the strawberry I knew what I had to get. I'll certainly be back. Really cute cafe too. Perfect treat to grab before heading to Sunset Park to watch a northern Michigan summer sunset over Little Traverse Bay.

Terry K.

Yelp
Very cool place and very clean. We needed our gelato fix and it was very good. They have granola and jellies and peanut butter. And they are famous for their dried cherries.

Rachel N.

Yelp
Loved the gelato! I had the coffee and chocolate gelato and it was delicious, highly recommend! Loved the atmosphere of the place.

Betsy P.

Yelp
Best place to eat in downtown Petoskey. The whitefish sandwich was delicious! So was the pulled pork BBQ - my husband and I were fighting over who got to finish which sandwich, they were both so good. The gelato tastes better than nature. Wildflower honey gelato: tastes exactly like honey, but better. Same with the milk caramel! Eating here feels like part of the documentary Chef's Table on Netflix: clean and modern space with fresh and delicious food.

Chris S.

Yelp
This is the best gelato I have ever had! I generally prefer ice cream, but this place is great. The creamsicle flavor is delicious.

Leah E.

Yelp
Food was so good, had no idea it became a taco spot! I knew it was previously only gelato and coffee spot but with the addition of tacos it was very good. I had the fried mushroom tacos which were delicious and we split guacamole. Great drink options. Food was kind of small portion wise and it took awhile for our food to come out but otherwise this place is a cute little addition to the original American spoon!

Chris W.

Yelp
OMG! You MUST come try the pulled pork tacos! And the Gelato is icing on the cake. Enjoy!

Annette J.

Yelp
The atmosphere of this place is top notch. There are also adorable outside tables so you can enjoy your gelato and watch all the activities or people in the park. A small cup of two flavors of gelato is $4.95. I would recommend you start with the Wildflower Honey and Pineapple. The cafe also offers sandwiches from 11a-3p, but we didn't try those on this visit.

Whitney L.

Yelp
Fantastic tacos and mixed drinks! We ordered the Fish Tacos and the Sweet Potato Taco and were not disappointed. We would also highly recommend the Jam Jar and the Chester Copper Pot mixed drinks.

Nathasja T.

Yelp
Wow, this place is like Mary Poppins; practically perfect in every way. The hand writing on the chalkboard is meticulously aligned, the decor compliments itself wonderfully (ugh, I love the whole interior design) and all the gelato's are leveled and smoothed down after each scoop - which is strangely satisfying. The other thing that's super satisfying is the gelato itself. Without joke, this is definitely in my top 5 of best frozen things I've stuffed my face within the past 27 years. And that's a lot, in case you're wondering. Cinnamon flavored ice cream is a favorite of mine so I died a little bit when I saw they had this flavor. This being silky soft gelato made the flavor so much better than just regular ice cream, even. There's something about that sweet, creamy flavor with the spiced warmth from the cinnamon flecks that makes me a happy camper. My second flavor I chose was wildflower honey, which tasted like creamed honey, only better. My niece jumped on the cinnamon bandwagon with me, and also had a scoop of chocolate. It was so chocolatey, dark and intense that I almost had gelato envy. Then again, everything we sampled was delicious and that which we didn't still looked and sounded amazing. The store next door has many more goodies such as preserves, salsas, hot sauces, caramel, honey (!), an amazing stone ground mustard, and more.

Debbie F.

Yelp
While in Petoskey, I had luch at American Spoon on two occasions. My group had rather mixed results at each meal. The food tended to be on the salty side...especially the soups. The diner is spotless and has a great atmosphere. They also offer some outdoor seating, which is lovely. Our service was just okay. I wish I could rave about American Spoon because I simply love Petsokey, but I can't resoundingly suggest the cafe. I would go back again, but can't say I would seek it out.

Katrina L.

Yelp
The gelato was delicious but the portions are small and pricy. It's a beautiful space with lots of seating both inside and outside.

Tiffany B.

Yelp
Came to this adorable little town looking for a place to grab a quick bite to eat and found food and gelato in the same place. Honestly did not have time to yelp so I was not sure it would be up to par but the food is gorgeous! There's a potato salad with pinenuts that is wonderful and we did the eggplant sandwich Open faced. It is a cold sandwich but it's lovely with beats underneath the eggplant and feta cheese. Glad we stopped

Julia K.

Yelp
Super cute place with super friendly people working the counter. They have a great variety of flavors, but the Michigan blueberry was my absolute favorite! It went well with my honey gelato as well. Even the small cup is a generous serving, so it's good to share!

Garren E.

Yelp
The food was great! Everything tasted fresh because it was fresh! The pancakes were amazing, the breakfast sandwich was AMAZINGLY, the huevos rancheros was amazing and the the drinks little red corvette and the empire strikes back were delicious! Slightly pricy but worth every cent! Wait staff is polite and fast! I will definitely be back!

Ashley S.

Yelp
Jam and toast? How about just the most perfect breakfast. Everything is freshly made...and everything is delicious. I had the jam and toast which consisted of fresh local toast, piled with homemade cashew butter and whatever jam you please (I had strawberry--amazing). My sister and mom got tea that came with their homemade raw honey, and it was incredible. So simple, yet we left nothing but satisfied. This little cafe made our experience in Petoskey memorable, and will definitely be back the next time we visit northern Michigan!

Diane S.

Yelp
Quaint atmosphere, delicious fresh food. The decor made an impression and the staff were friendly. I had the seasonal 3 pea salad with pickled ramps and it was a breath of fresh air! The chalk board art was Fab!

Matthew A.

Yelp
I miss the old cafe. Their food was amazing. Having just tried Happy's today, I love the new food. I'll still miss the American Spoon burger and kid's menu, but the Happy's guacamole is unbelievable! My only gripe is the happy's kid's menu. I wish they had more healthy options (even if it is a PB&J using American Spoon products) and some with protein.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Went during a holiday weekend so the place was packed. Service was still very friendly despite the chaos. Food was fantastic. Family friendly with great daylight and views of the park. Definitely my go to spot in Petoskey now.

Sasha T.

Yelp
I love this place! Gelato is amazing and the place is cute! I constantly get half chocolate and half coconut. Would definitely recommend

Laura P.

Yelp
I've never had the lunch foods here, but I hear the food is at least decent, though I'm not sure if it really matches the prices. The gelato is what I'm reviewing...and it's damn good.

James M.

Yelp
Gelato was icy and not very good. Only bought because we tasted so many looking for one we liked. Pass.

Capt J.

Yelp
I don't know where to start. WOW! This place is awesome. Super clean. Fresh flowers on every table. Pleasant background music. Spic n span dining area. Great staff. A guy named Bob, made our food. Request him. His preparation was a grand-slam!! I had a roasted turkey sandwich. My wife had the Italian club. Very clean eating and super delicious. This place nukes subway and other sandwich places. They're not playing here. It's all seriously awesome! If you don't try, you're missing out. We strongly recommend. Good job, ASF Cafe!! We'll be back...and back again, and again more....

Megan K.

Yelp
Wow. Amazing everything. We decided to eat here thanks to Yelpers. Breakfast was so good. Iced caramel creme was perfect. Small gelato/sorbetto was in two flavors. I had chamomile and chocolate almond. My mouth was in heaven! Oh be still my heart!!! I love you, American Spoon Gelato Cafe. Our waitress was nice too. She stood and talked with us for a few minutes. It was a perfect day to sit and eat in their outdoor dining.

Dave S.

Yelp
American Spoon is a staple during my trips Up North...I mean the Jam/Jelly sold in the actually store next door is featured on the Pure Michigan ads. This trip I was a bit full and didn't go with my usual 3 flavor medley. I did go with the Red Raspberry and the Burnt Caramel. Both were delicious and the Ras was just a flavor explosion. It is usually hard for me to narrow down what flavors I want, so luckily the kind folks at the counter have no problem dishing out multiple free samples. If you are around Petoskey having a bite to eat, pass up dessert wherever you are so you can save room for some American Spoon (rhyming unintended).

Bee R.

Yelp
I live for their pistachio gelato. When I'm headed to Petoskey, I *always* stop here, and talk about the gelato for a week before, and a week after. It has evolved a bit over the years, and since I don't live there anymore, it's pretty striking how they've differentiated themselves from the other cafes in downtown. creative & upscale cafe menu now, though I never go for the food.. My visit this summer would have been stellar if not for the supremely disinterested young women running the gelato counter- likely high school girls working through the summer before college who were more concerned with discussing other young women in an unflattering light- I'm forking over $10 bucks for ice cream, please make eye contact and smile at the very least. Or don't, but avoid smack-talking your peers! However, grab your little cup of heaven and head out to the park, people watch and enjoy one of life's finer indulgences!

Gail B.

Yelp
The breakfast was bland and completely unsatisfying. I expected a lot more based on the quality of their preserves from next door. I also found out that the owner is the reason our vacation rental plans were cancelled last minute this summer. She pushed a law through the Petoskey city council banning tourists from renting vacation homes. Wow- I guess they don't want our business here at all!

Angela R.

Yelp
Once wasn't enough, we made 2 appearances here while in the area. Once for coffee and the second time we gave breakfast a go. Obviously we found their brew to be of the pleasing sort - with offerings of light medium and dark roast. I had the breakfast parfet, the granola was worth writing home about and given the affiliation with American Spoon preserves that was a nice added bonus. The rest of the menu was filled with offering that are fresh organic and local, loved it!

Andrew P.

Yelp
The turtle espresso drink is my favorite. They do have outdoor seating, but just a couple tables.

Cee B.

Yelp
Awesome gelato Try pistachio, lemon, bloody orange Dinner was nice with excellent bread and homemade, but i am a bigger fan of the gelato. Will come back again.

Rajeev S.

Yelp
Excellent staff, ambiance and food. 1. Huevos rancheros was awesome 2 squash salad was unique, well prepared, light and delicious 3. Liked the gelato too

Alex K.

Yelp
Food was great, very much enjoyed my meal. Stayed and finished some work; really enjoyed the free wifi. Recommended!

Chris D.

Yelp
Did I feel welcomed? No. Did the staff get annoyed that I wanted to sample 3 different flavors before deciding? Yes. Was the gelato fresh and natural? Yes. Was it well worth the money for the stingy amount given? Hell no.

Adam R.

Yelp
I can't speak on the lunch menu as I haven't seen it, or tasted the food. However I can discuss the gelato. And it is delicious. I'm a sucker for any place that wants to give me a ton of free samples until I decide what I want. This particular instance I settled on mango, pineapple, and red raspberry. All three were really good. By no means am I gelato expert but the texture seemed consistent with the few other times I've eaten it. I'd easily go back to the American Spoon the next time I'm in Petoskey.

Renee M.

Yelp
Great breakfast, not great service. It's the little things that matter and that's were AP lost points. Waited for 7 or 8 minutes for a table even though the place was half empty and there were multiple staff buzzing about. Also, our waitress wasn't outright rude but seemed disinterested in serving us. Those service issues aside-the food was very good and the place is super cute. Nice place to stop for a bite to eat or gelato.

Kay L.

Yelp
Not at all allergy-friendly which is weird in a restaurant that focuses on local, fresh food. Very few gluten-free options (how hard is it to keep a loaf of bread for sandwiches/toast? Really?) and when I asked our server to leave off the apple onion jam/chutney because I shouldn't have onion, you would think that she would have warned me that the burger patty was loaded with them. The potato salad was great, but that doesn't make much of a meal. Also fantastic gelato and that is about all I would go back for. Unfortunate because it could easily be so different. I was hoping this was a place I could eat breakfast every day of our visit. Nope.
